Hadley's is a beloved spot to stop by, especially if you like dates! These are the best dates I've ever had, do yourself a favor and pick up some date jam along with an iconic date shake. I always appreciate how there is plenty of parking, food options, and clean restrooms here. More than anything I love that they have a vegan date shake! It's absolutely divine, exactly what a date lover would hope for. It's the perfect consistency and flavor, the dates really shine here.
I have only been here a handful of times. I came in on a Sunday afternoon at around 3 PM. They always have their date shakes ready to order, ready to go. The store itself is very clean. Everyone who comes in normally gets a date shake while shopping. There was no line at the time we went, so the service was very quick. You are able to sample all the flavors. I got the banana date shake and it was absolutely delicious. I definitely recommend coming here anytime you are in the area going to or coming from! Such a SoCal staple.
Heads up that location-wise: I hate dealing with the 2 roundabouts that you have to go pass before entering it. But once you pass that - location is great, it's right next to Morongo Resort & Casino, and is a short drive from the Cabazon/Desert Hills Premium Outlets. Ambiance: interior is nice and really clean - store is pretty spacious and everything is well laid-out. The cafe is beside the gift shop & grocery section, and there's plenty of indoor chairs & tables. The restrooms are really clean too & there were plenty of stalls. I got some Date Cookies from the grocery section and a date soft-serve in a cone from the cafe. The soft-serve was delicious! It was a lot too for $5.99. The line was so long for the popular date shake & date soft-serve - which was a separate line from people ordering food from the cafe like sandwiches. Overall I had a good experience here, and would recommend checking them out if you're in the area for Morongo or the outlets!
We wanted to try a famous date shake before leaving Palm Springs but most places were closed. We decided to stop here on our way home as it was the only one open. When we arrived, there was no line and it looked like a market. There was a small soft serve station. It was all premade. She just used a machine to fill our shake cups. It was fast. It tasted like sweet vanilla soft serve with pieces of coconut. The date pieces had a coconut meat texture to me. I also tried a mini pecan pie. That was not my favorite. We went for the experience to try it and I'm glad we did but I wouldn't go back and order a date shake. I wish I knew they were known for trail mix cause I would have tried that too. I'd recommend to try it just to say you did. It wasn't bad but it wasn't anything special in my opinion.
I've kind of made it a habit to stop here on my way back to California from Arizona. I will say going west on the 10 and getting in that roundabout can be a little tricky so just be cautious. Just a great location to pick up some snacks and fresh food and souvenirs as well as their famous state shakes. Very creamy lightly sweetened. Clean restrooms. Plenty of parking. Friendly service. Just all around good vibes. And honestly, you can get in and out of there in probably 10 minutes and under I think they're very conscientious of getting people back on the road. See you soon.
This review is for their shake and soft serve Hadley is known for their dates, dried fruit, nuts, and gifts. They are a grocery store with a cafe attached to it. When you go in their cafe there is a line for their popular date shakes and a line for their food. The date shake line is always long but worth the wait. I went after shopping with two other people and we tried their shake and new soft serve. I love that theres an option for their regular date shake or their banana date shake. For a little more you can do add-ins such as strawberry, coffee, or chocolate. I paid an additional $1.50 for their honey roasted peanut to be added to my banana date shake. It was divine and delicious. I highly recommend it if you like banana and peanut butter. I also got to try their date soft soft which was also good but I still liked my shake better. A serving of their soft serve was huge. Just be warned there is dairy. In their cafe, they also have hot dogs, tamales, burgers and pizzas. I do want to come back and try their other date shakes and their chili dog. Pricing is affordable and the cafe is casual. There are plenty of places to sit but it was quite busy that Friday we came. The people working went as fast as they can go. I cannot wait to go back.
We dropped in for date shakes and we're not disappointed. I had the date shake with banana and chocolate. It was very good. The eating area of Hadleys wasn't the cleanest, we had to clean our table before sitting. The customer service was just ok. It was fun to try once, but probably wouldn't go out of my way to go back.
At Hadley Fruit Orchards, we tried both the original date shake and the banana date shake and enjoyed them. They're definitely on the sweeter side, but we'd still recommend giving them a try.
THE BEST DATE SHAKES! If you're passing up Hadley's you're making the biggest mistake of your life. I should be coming more often, but life gets the best of me sometimes. Hadley's is esteemed in the Inland Empire for its regular and vegan date shakes. I bought a couple of vegan shakes for my Mom and I during this trip. I swear the quality of the vegan shakes are just as good or better than the traditional shakes. I'm never disappointed! Once we got our shakes we took a trip around the grocery store side of the property. The store is farmer-chic with a modern look. Popcorn is available for sale on the way out, perfect for a rainy day. There's all sorts of groceries here, meats, specialty bakery items, wine, etc. if you're looking for souvenirs, they have them too! Service is always solid, the staff are professional and quick. I've never had an issue here. Hadley's gets a massive recommendation from me!
I first had a Date Shake 60 years ago at the Hadley orchard outside Indio, and I've been stopping at this location for close to 30 years. It has grown so much over time. Yes, they serve Date Shakes here ... a treat in my book. Last Sunday, my wife and I tried their Date Vanilla Soft Serve (4/5 $4.99) for the first time -- delicious vanilla soft serve infused with date pieces; they were out of Date Shakes at the time we were here. This location is also a country/convenience store that features many products with the Hadley name on them. It's easily accessible from I-10 near the Morongo Casino.
Stopped in for the Famous Date Shake, truly worth the stop for this sweet treat. The "stand" is located conveniently near food, gas and roadside favorites and the Cabazon Outlets and Morongo Casino Resort. Harley's has been around forever and is an institution for its "Famous Date Shakes" made with vanilla ice cream (soft serve). Made from dates from local sourced date farm. Sometimes the line can be long, but it goes fast and is worth it. They do offer a few add in flavors now (honey, chocolate, etc$ but I'm a purest. The date shake is available in the cafe area of Hadley's, which also offer food (hamburgers, hot dogs, sandwiches and baked goods). And there is also a Hadleys store section with cold drinks, souvenirs, some pretty tasty beef jerky, preserves and such.

Can't speak for the fruit, didn't see any of it there fresh. I can tell you the sandwich from the cafe was the most dry sandwich I've ever eaten, probably on par with my top 5 worst sandwiches I've had. It didn't taste fresh at all and the workers were kind of unfriendly. Both of us couldn't finish what we ordered. The store itself is kinda cool. Beef jerky, candy, souvenirs, lots of drinks and snacks. It was like a big gas station without the gas. Probably won't be back unless it's for a bag of licorice before we go to the mall. read more

Very interesting story about the history behind the place. This is newer building and it set up with a touristy- grocery store on one side and a cafe on the other. The store has a little bit of everything ranging from Hadley branded jams etc to general store merch ( knick knacks to Lays chips with various Asian flavors)). Prices were reasonable. I should note- there are no orchards nearby on or around the building. The cafe experience was not good. Ordered a turkey bacon avocado panini- it came without avocado. Upon letting staff know they took the sandwich to the side and literally threw some avocados on it ( so much for a grilled panini). Didn't have the time or energy to make an issue of it as we had to get back on the road- but it was weird and I am not a big fan of people touching my food after I have touched it. Not a bad experience at the store- worth checking it out - but don't recommend the cafe. read more

If you're curious, as I was, you need to know that "fruit orchard" in the name is a gross misnomer. I took a photo to show the full extent of their fresh produce. You'll notice the scant inventory of orchard fruits. Two-thirds of this store includes many shelves of dried fruits & nuts, wine (no cheese!), and that's about it. The final third of the store is a cafe. The prices are expensive for most items. Maybe I completely missed the point of what this store is supposed to be. I would rather go to a Whole Foods; similarly priced but a complete produce, dairy, grocery, and excellent cafe. read more

Even with this place, just about to close the young lady behind the counter was massively, friendly, and the peanut butter banana date shake delivered five 5 stars as always. I think this is a mandatory stop. They even have non-dairy options. This place has been a family tradition since my grandma was alive and would always stop at the original location to pickup dried fruit to bring back to LA. Now they've expanded into hot sandwiches and pizza as well. Worth a stop. read more

I love this place. When driving from Arizona to California or vice versa, it is a great place to take a break. There is a lot to see, a restaurant and lots of goodies to go. I find it a very relaxing spot to stop. To me, Fruit and Nut stands along America's highways are as Americana as it gets! There is a nice (small) restaurant that serves up better fare than the fast food restaurants in the area, if you have the time. They always seem busy. Oh and those date shakes are something to try. The store itself has a few souvenirs and lots of nuts, fruits, candy and you name it! I like the variety selection of nuts and fruit. If you like dates, there is every kind you can imagine. I found a variety tray with cashews, walnuts, pecans and almonds coated with date sugar. Yum! I also found some Australian chocolates with a freeze dried honey center. Last, they have a counter where you can ship ll of these goodies to friends and family. Whats not to like. Hadley really does have something for everyone! read more

Been here before only for their famous date shakes, but on my last visit got a variety of snacks and some alcoholic beverages. They have a huge selections of snacks, including jerky and sweets; as well as souvenirs and gifts. Cashier was friendly and helpful. I recommend coming by if you need a pit stop :) read more
My first time here although have passed by many times. Surprised they moved from the original location to a "grocery-store" type building next to the original. The selection and variety of dates will shock you! Who knew there were "so many" types!! Had to get the famous date shake and it didn't disappoint. Tasted like date flavored ice cream, so I wouldn't be surprised to see vanilla ice cream in the ingredients! read more

The food was like cafeteria quality... zero meat in the beef tamales, but at $2.50 a pop I wasn't too mad. Tried my first date shake and it was tasty! They are premade though which was nice for sale of time but not the freshness I was expecting. The red bean chili was pretty decent. I love dates! I haven't been to this new store since the original store closed down years ago. They reopened back in 2016 in the new shopping center. They provide premium quality dates, dried fruit, nuts, and gifts. They also carry travel essentials, drinks, candies, wine, spirits, and lastly they have cafe where you can purchase pizza, sandwiches, soup, salad, hamburgers and other delicious items. The store is clean and staff were all friendly. I got myself magnet and few items. Don't forget to checkin for free mix in for the date shake. I will try the date and date shake next time. Please stop by this store whenever you are in town shopping at Cabazon outlet or visiting Morongo Casino. read more

This spot is home of their famous 'date shake'. There's a giant sign off the freeway that reads Hadley's. You can't miss it. That said, my partner was driving and often is at the outlets and had never seen the sign! So, go figure. Hadley's is divided into two main areas: a store with all kinds of goodies (including dates, every which way) and a cafe. The cafe has the shakes! They offer an 'original' flavor as well as a 'banana' flavor with a myriad of mix ins. When thinking of mix ins just remember that dates are naturally sweet and what you add may make it even sweeter!! They also offer vegan options and I love this. Everyone needs to try this shake at least once. We each got one on a stop at the outlets- going to and from. In fact, I hadn't finished my first one before I even asked about stopping again on our way back so we could get another one! Prices are decent for the shakes and I really wish i could have somehow taken a pitcher home. Do yourself a HUGE favor and stop here before shopping at the outlets or before continuing on to Palm Springs, etc. The shake is filling, doesn't weigh you down, and gives the perfect amount of fuel to keep going. read more

Haven't been here in a few years and we stop every time time we got to AZ. Their date shake is awesome!!. Add some coffee to it and that does the trick. Refreshing in this heat. The snacks, too many to choose from. But what they got is a huge variety across board from their own. Be back next trip through. read more
Very interesting store. They have a large selection of dates, nuts and candy to choose from. I like how they have various souvenirs and indoor decor. Everything here is neatly organized and prices are displayed and easy to find. On the left side there's a deli where you can order some food and their famous date shake. With a help check in you can redeem an extra topping with your date shake purchase. The small shake is $4.49 and with a half dollar more you can get a medium shake for $4.99. We opted to share a large date shake $5.49 which was delicious. Mix of fresh milk and dates. Yum! read more

The best date shakes! I love the vegan version too and so does my 9 month old son. The selection is outstanding and I just love exploring all the interesting delicious food and beverage items there! It's fun! The prices are reasonable and the service is friendly. This place has been around for quite some time and is really a staple for the inland empire. Disappointed with the Vegan Matcha shake. This is the second time ordering it , and today was so disappointing. Doesn't taste like matcha and clearly not green. Don't waste your money on the Matcha Add ins. read more

A perfect spot for a break from shopping. These date shakes seem like the perfect fulfillment to remind you of the simple pleasures in life. A nice cafe inside with ample seating for large groups. There's so much to look at and get swept away by it's charm. Nuts and fruits, tarts and pies, ingredients for the perfect charcuterie board, wines and sauces, various dried fruits and candies. Had to try the infamous Date Shake on the way to Palm Springs! It's a cute little market with a little cafe on the left, located right next to the outlets. I ordered the banana and date version, tastes exactly like the Ben and Jerry's Chunky Monkey ice cream flavor! It's like a soft serve, they pour from the machine right in front of you. This place was fantastic! I have traveled to California by way of Arizona many times. I recently started incorporating dates into my diet, and really like them! Because this company's dates are sold at Costco, I figured the next time I come by, I had to try one of these. I was not disappointed! My only difficulty was deciding between the classic date shake, or the banana date shake. I figured for my first time, I was going to go with the classic. It was fantastic. This is a long-time classic Coachella business which has now passed to the Morongo Band of Mission Indians. They've done a great job constructing a new cafe and store next to the original location, which is boarded up and waiting for a new life, perhaps. While there are no longer containers of samples to try, this store is so much better than what I remember as a kid. What used to be long rows of bagged snacks laying on the top of long tables has now evolved into a contemporary and air conditioned store with shelving and displays to see everything they have to offer. In addition to so many varieties of their famous dates, they have every jam, jelly, sauce, nut, chocolate and candy you could want. Nice things in the fridge sections, too, are available for folks who are lucky enough to not need to pack their yummies for transport. A small cafe in the the front corner of the store sells basic takeout food. Lots of people munching on hot dogs and chips, washed down with their world-famous date shakes! read more

It's still open. It moved about half mile down to a new, larger location.

They do! They have a vegan date nut shake now :)
Do they have a non dairy milk option for the shakes (or lactose free milk)?
We are very sorry at this time we don't we are looking at the possibility in the future to having a non dairy date shake.
