This review is for their shake and soft serve Hadley is known for their dates, dried fruit, nuts, and gifts. They are a grocery store with a cafe attached to it. When you go in their cafe there is a line for their popular date shakes and a line for their food. The date shake line is always long but worth the wait. I went after shopping with two other people and we tried their shake and new soft serve. I love that theres an option for their regular date shake or their banana date shake. For a little more you can do add-ins such as strawberry, coffee, or chocolate. I paid an additional $1.50 for their honey roasted peanut to be added to my banana date shake. It was divine and delicious. I highly recommend it if you like banana and peanut butter. I also got to try their date soft soft which was also good but I still liked my shake better. A serving of their soft serve was huge. Just be warned there is dairy. In their cafe, they also have hot dogs, tamales, burgers and pizzas. I do want to come back and try their other date shakes and their chili dog. Pricing is affordable and the cafe is casual. There are plenty of places to sit but it was quite busy that Friday we came. The people working went as fast as they can go. I cannot wait to go back.
Let me start by saying this review is only for the Date Shake. There is a store here and other food options. Whenever I head to the Palm Springs area a Date Shake stop is a must do. I have a go to spot but finally decided to stop here. As for the shake there is original option and a banana date shake option. What I like about Hadley's is they have the option to add mix ins and they have quite a few choices. I opted for the original this time so I can get a baseline taste. Overall I really enjoyed the shake and will try banana/date with a peanut butter mix in next time. I deducted one star as there was a line to get the shake and it took 10-15 minutes to get my shake. I felt the service could have gone faster. They even have a line just for date shakes and it still was slow.
Stopped in for the Famous Date Shake, truly worth the stop for this sweet treat. The "stand" is located conveniently near food, gas and roadside favorites and the Cabazon Outlets and Morongo Casino Resort. Harley's has been around forever and is an institution for its "Famous Date Shakes" made with vanilla ice cream (soft serve). Made from dates from local sourced date farm. Sometimes the line can be long, but it goes fast and is worth it. They do offer a few add in flavors now (honey, chocolate, etc$ but I'm a purest. The date shake is available in the cafe area of Hadley's, which also offer food (hamburgers, hot dogs, sandwiches and baked goods). And there is also a Hadleys store section with cold drinks, souvenirs, some pretty tasty beef jerky, preserves and such.
Hadley Fruit Orchards in Cabazon is one of those classic roadside stops that feels almost mandatory if you're driving through the area. I pulled off the freeway for a date shake, and it was absolutely delicious and totally worth the quick detour. It's an easy in and out stop, which makes it perfect when you want a treat without turning it into a whole excursion. The place has a charm that makes it feel timeless rather than dated. It's a great little pause button on the drive between Palm Springs and home, and honestly, that date shake alone is reason enough to stop.
On our way home from Morongo Casino, was told we had to get a date shake from Hadley. Our first time here, first impression, reminds us of a Buc-ee's. I was so excited when I walked in! I loved the variety of items and flavors offered, I want one of everything! Definitely come here and get a date shake, you won't regret it! We did buy some snacks for the ride home. Will definitely stop by on any future road trips. Customer service was on point on all levels.
I was pleasantly surprised after getting cheaper gas right next-door, to see Hadley Fruit Orchards was still in business, located in the Morongo Travel Center. Their store has dates, dried fruit, nuts, and gifts. They have a great selection, but I think it's somewhat pricey. Something that you should not pass up is their date shakes, or their date flavored soft, serve ice cream! Delicious with just the perfect amount of date! So happy to have this blast from my past!
The last time I went to Hadley's was about 25 years ago and they were in the old building. After spending 4 days in Quartzsite Arizona, buying minerals, I decided on stopping to check out the store. Walking in I saw a clean, well organized selection of nuts, jams, candy, chocolate covered dates, jerky, sandwiches and Yes their famous date shakes. After spending about 20 minutes I made my purchase selections, a bag of dark chocolate covered dates and a bag of dark chocolate cover almonds. Both were absolutely delicious but my favorite were the dark chocolate covered Noor dates. The price was good. The 2 bags were a little under $20 after tax.
Came to Harley's for the first time, didn't know what to expect, cool grocery store / sandwich stand? Popular for their date shakes? We ordered date shakes and a date soft serve ice cream. The shake was rich and creamy while having date bits n pieces inside, was kind of heavy, the soft serve was light and creamy with a decent flavor of date but not over powering. Would get the soft serve again over the shake. All the staff we had encountered were friendly and helpful.

Yes, they sell fruit and other items (see my pics for a glimpse of their produce selection), but let's be honest: I'm here for the date shakes. They've built a reputation that holds up year after year, and for good reason. On this visit, I tried the banana-date shake. It was everything I hoped for - rich, creamy, perfectly ice cold, and bursting with sweet, succulent flavor. We stopped by Hadley's Orchard on our way home from camping in Idyllwild and are so glad we did! Hadley's has come up from its little farm stand roots ! They have some new features to their farm stand ! Cafe is a nice travel destination serving a unique date soft serve (so mild on the stomach no regrets ! ) plus date and banana date shakes ! Service was quick ,fast ,polite and friendly, courteous and more than helpful I know I told the lady at the register ringing up my mother's goodies she was amazing but I had to repeat here she's a stellar employee! Sundries by the bushel, souvenirs galore and just an all time fun family friendly desert stop!
I recall coming here with my parents decades ago [lots of decades]. I drove up and said "oh man it's closed" but it is not. There is some construction on the original building but there is a new huge building above it in the plaza. I jumped in line to get a date smoothie while my wife went shopping. Her dad had requested some specific dates. I didn't realize there were that many options. She also purchased some coconut encrusted dates.... but I didn't get any. The place is huge with everything from a huge candy assortment, a small fruit pantry, beef jerky options. Heck, that is all I saw in the one row I walked through. The bathrooms were clean for those of us on the road and everyone was really nice despite all the people that were there today.

A must stop over point on the way back home from Joshua Tree! Not only does the smoothie flow through the straw easily, but it's so rich and full feeling that it can pass for a shake. Ordered the strawberry date smoothie ( vegan substitution ) and was so pleased with the outcome. read more

This was a great spot to stop at while we were traveling. We were craving a date shake and needed the sandwich too. The store itself is so interesting. Lots of pickled stuff like pickled asparagus, variety of jerky, and some Asian snacks. The date shake wasn't too heavy which I liked. I would come to try the banana date shake. The panini was good, just wish it had less mayonnaise. It comes with a generous portion of cheese and avocado! You get to choose between two or three chip flavors too Service was ok. I remember when Hadley was a shack. Today I'm like wow! What does Hadley Fruit Orchards not have. We made our rounds, walked up and down each aisle and then made it over to the restaurant side and had lunch. My friends and I had sandwich combos. I ordered turkey panini. I liked the melted cheese on the buttered toasted bread. Our sandwiches weee tasty. The entire store was clean, organized and well stocked. Registers had lines but the wait on each one wasn't long drawn. Staff members at the register were friendly, polite and patient. There were lots of tables and chairs to choose from. It's a great place to stop while traveling. Service is great, very clean. The small restaurant is connected to a bigger convenience store which makes it nice to pick up things if needed while traveling through. I am sure we will be back, especially since our daughter is named Hadley. read more
Hadley's is always a favorite when we're traveling down the I-10 freeway. Top highlights include: Clean restrooms! Date shakes & VEGAN dairy-free date shakes!! Gourmet and local food items! Baked goods! Local bread! Charcuterie supplies! Fancy and basic candies! California souvenirs! Wine and beer! Imported snacks and candies! Ice cream! Frozen foods! Sandwich shop! Natural foods and supplements! Bath and body products! Local dates! (And did I mention clean restrooms and dairy-free/ vegan date shakes??) Store is selling counterfeit products. DO NOT BUY. I purchased 2 labubus with official pop mart branding on them. They were given to us at the counter and before opening them I inspected the box and realized they are fake. I went back in to let the store know they were selling fakes, in case they were not aware, and the manager got very defensive and told me the store knows they are fake. She then rudely told me they were not required to disclose this information and that it was my fault for not asking if the product was fake. She said that she owns 10 real labubus, and i should have known better, as if to like rub it in my face? This is actually heartbreaking to me cause I genuinely love this store, and it is always a place my friends and I visit when coming to California. I've never been treated so rudely for just trying to help. read more

Sip, savor and repeat! Hadley Fruit Orchards is a must stop for some of the BEST delicious date shakes in the Inland Empire!! If you've never heard of a date shake before you're in for a real treat today! Their rich, caramel-like taste and soft texture are a perfect sweet treat on their own, or even better, in a milkshake. It's a great stop on your way to Palm Springs. It's near the Cabazon Outlet stores and Casino Morongo!! It is a wonderful rest stop with small cafe, upscale gourmet food/gift shop area, restrooms and a large assortment of dried fruits and nuts. read more

Stopped off here before heading home. So glad we did. This place is huge lots of food, fruit and they have a little food court. They specialize in date shake. There is a line but definitely worth the wait. This is a must stop. read more
5/5 stars for the shakes. Best date shakes ever! Everytime we've come here, the thickness/sweetness is always consistent. The store has so many unique food items so you'll def be in here browsing for a minute. Love all the different honeys, jams/jellies. Dried fruits etc As for service in the restaurant.... 1/5. The food was ok. Maybe it's what we ordered. Mini pepperoni pizza and vegetarian sandwich. Mini pizza tasted like frozen pizza but the crust was good. The veggie sandwich was bland. There's a condiment table so you need to put your own mayo, mustard etc. even w that, it wasn't fantastic. Great place to swing by before/after your trip to Palm Springs or just going to the outlets. If you happen to be near Hadley's, you absolutely have to make a pit stop. Their date shakes are absolutely fantastic, especially on a scorching day. Their selection of nuts, dried fruits, and snacks are perfect for a road trip. We grabbed some dates and had a light dinner for the remainder of our journey home. The Panini was delightful, and my son loved his pizza. The seating area is pleasant with plenty of tables, and the place was tidy, well-stocked, and incredibly welcoming. 4/29/24 read more
Northwest of this massive, clean, vast House of Sales stands Hadley's original fruit stand. It too was a massive, clean House of Sales - in the 20th Century style. I learned recently the Medjool Date was the date reserved for North African royalty. Until enterprising horticulturalists brought them to the Coachella Valley and other Mojave Desert locations. My favorite Medjool product is English Walnut stuffed dates. I always stop here for diced dates. It's the only place I find them. We use them on our hot or cold breakfast cereal. I also buy family gifts here - the rounds with their variety of products. And then there's the Hadley's Universe. Very interesting story about the history behind the place. This is newer building and it set up with a touristy- grocery store on one side and a cafe on the other. The store has a little bit of everything ranging from Hadley branded jams etc to general store merch ( knick knacks to Lays chips with various Asian flavors)). Prices were reasonable. I should note- there are no orchards nearby on or around the building. The cafe experience was not good. Ordered a turkey bacon avocado panini- it came without avocado. Upon letting staff know they took the sandwich to the side and literally threw some avocados on it ( so much for a grilled panini). Didn't have the time or energy to make an issue of it as we had to get back on the road- but it was weird and I am not a big fan of people touching my food after I have touched it. Not a bad experience at the store- worth checking it out - but don't recommend the cafe. read more

If you're curious, as I was, you need to know that "fruit orchard" in the name is a gross misnomer. I took a photo to show the full extent of their fresh produce. You'll notice the scant inventory of orchard fruits. Two-thirds of this store includes many shelves of dried fruits & nuts, wine (no cheese!), and that's about it. The final third of the store is a cafe. The prices are expensive for most items. Maybe I completely missed the point of what this store is supposed to be. I would rather go to a Whole Foods; similarly priced but a complete produce, dairy, grocery, and excellent cafe. read more

Even with this place, just about to close the young lady behind the counter was massively, friendly, and the peanut butter banana date shake delivered five 5 stars as always. I think this is a mandatory stop. They even have non-dairy options. This place has been a family tradition since my grandma was alive and would always stop at the original location to pickup dried fruit to bring back to LA. Now they've expanded into hot sandwiches and pizza as well. Worth a stop. read more
This is always a favorite stop on the way to California. Hadleys has been around since before I was born! They make a wonderful Palm Springs style date shake. In recent years they have added other flavors of date shakes and they even have a vegan version. I got the regular and the peanut butter one. Okay, so I love peanut butter but wow this one is super duper peanut buttery! I advise you guys to order it with half their normal scoop so you can still taste the dates in the shake. I love the original date shake and always will, it's creamy , milky , sweet but in a natural way from the dates and it just tastes like heaven on earth. read more
Did you know there are 600 types of dates in the world? I didn't know till I did a bit of research for this Yelp review of my Banana-Strawberry Date Shake I had from Hadley Fruit Orchards store. Check in to Hadley's on the Yelp app and receive a free mix-in. I chose to add strawberries -note it's syrup, not real strawberries. I was hoping for fresh strawberries. Large shake will cost around $5. Shake wasn't overly sweet. Date flavor was subtle. Banana and strawberry flavoring taste a bit artificial. Free large parking. Picked up a date shake on the way back to LA and there was already a bit of a line at around 11AM -although the line moved quickly. Service was direct no frills. I had to wait for a manager to override stuff on the computer for the free mix-in when checking in to Hadley's on Yelp. *Palm Springs grows the Medjools and Deglet Noor type of date, if you wondered too. Deglet Door means "date of light," in Arabic. Online sources say 90%-95% of dates grown in the USA come from the Coachella Valley. read more

I can tell you the sandwich from the cafe was the most dry sandwich I've ever eaten, probably on par with my top 5 worst sandwiches I've had. It didn't taste fresh at all and the workers were kind of unfriendly. Both of us couldn't finish what we ordered. The store itself is kinda cool. Beef jerky, candy, souvenirs, lots of drinks and snacks. It was like a big gas station without the gas. Probably won't be back unless it's for a bag of licorice before we go to the mall. read more

Been here before only for their famous date shakes, but on my last visit got a variety of snacks and some alcoholic beverages. They have a huge selections of snacks, including jerky and sweets; as well as souvenirs and gifts. Cashier was friendly and helpful. I recommend coming by if you need a pit stop :) read more

I love this place. When driving from Arizona to California or vice versa, it is a great place to take a break. There is a lot to see, a restaurant and lots of goodies to go. I find it a very relaxing spot to stop. To me, Fruit and Nut stands along America's highways are as Americana as it gets! There is a nice (small) restaurant that serves up better fare than the fast food restaurants in the area, if you have the time. They always seem busy. Oh and those date shakes are something to try. The store itself has a few souvenirs and lots of nuts, fruits, candy and you name it! I like the variety selection of nuts and fruit. If you like dates, there is every kind you can imagine. I found a variety tray with cashews, walnuts, pecans and almonds coated with date sugar. Yum! I also found some Australian chocolates with a freeze dried honey center. Last, they have a counter where you can ship ll of these goodies to friends and family. Whats not to like. Hadley really does have something for everyone! read more

My first time here although have passed by many times. Surprised they moved from the original location to a "grocery-store" type building next to the original. The selection and variety of dates will shock you! Who knew there were "so many" types!! Had to get the famous date shake and it didn't disappoint. Tasted like date flavored ice cream, so I wouldn't be surprised to see vanilla ice cream in the ingredients! read more

The food was like cafeteria quality... zero meat in the beef tamales, but at $2.50 a pop I wasn't too mad. Tried my first date shake and it was tasty! They are premade though which was nice for sale of time but not the freshness I was expecting. The red bean chili was pretty decent. I love dates! I haven't been to this new store since the original store closed down years ago. They reopened back in 2016 in the new shopping center. They provide premium quality dates, dried fruit, nuts, and gifts. They also carry travel essentials, drinks, candies, wine, spirits, and lastly they have cafe where you can purchase pizza, sandwiches, soup, salad, hamburgers and other delicious items. The store is clean and staff were all friendly. I got myself magnet and few items. Don't forget to checkin for free mix in for the date shake. I will try the date and date shake next time. Please stop by this store whenever you are in town shopping at Cabazon outlet or visiting Morongo Casino. read more

They do! They have a vegan date nut shake now :)
Do they have a non dairy milk option for the shakes (or lactose free milk)?
We are very sorry at this time we don't we are looking at the possibility in the future to having a non dairy date shake.
