Price was on the expensive side of reasonable but we definitely had decent value for money. The location is lovely, the view out across the hills and farms is serene and tranquil. Our order had 6 kids meals, all of which were well received and eaten with gusto. The batter on the fish was particularly light and crispy, the fish full of flavour and succulent, not dried-out as so often is the case. Personally, I very much enjoyed a wild mushroom tagliatelle which was cooked to perfection, the creamy sauce punctuated with all sorts of interesting mushrooms. A cheese board to finish my meal with three interesting cheeses, a quince jelly and pressed fig cake was very tasty, no dull cheddar or red-liecester, but three engaging and palate-warming cheeses accompanied by light crackers. Others in the group enjoyed the salmon on risotto, fish cakes, pork belly and a classic roast beef with Yorkshire pud. Nobody had any complaints, we'd go back if we were in the area and if you're close by, would definitely recommend you search it out. The building which would normally double up as an inn / hotel is undergoing a large refurb and refit project, yet still remains lovely to look at and there was no disruption to our meal at all. (Maybe because it was a Sunday) Great place to visit.

New to my husband, who grew up in the town, we ventured in for some brunch. Technically breakfast, which was the menu available to us pre midday. But it could double as a brunch menu too. I had the Eggs Benedict and my husband the big breakfast. The eggs were poached perfectly and the accompanying bread, hollandaise and ham top notch. Really good. My husbands big breakfast was just that. Big! I sampled some of the hash brown and black pudding. Both were excellent, the best black pudding I've had outside Ireland. The staff were very prompt and courteous. We'll definitely be returning when we are back on future visits.
