We were becoming totally frustrated in our search for an architect and a general contractor to…read moreguide an extensive remodel of our home. What we needed and seemingly could not find was an honest estimate of costs, an architect who could help us design our project and drive the permit process, and a contractor to build the project. Finally we happened upon STEL Builders. Cory, a walking advertisement for why you need to contract with STEL, jumped on our project and quickly gave us a realistic idea of costs. He introduced us to Frank, who is an awesome person and STEL's in-house architect. Frank gave us three options of drawings to choose from. Each option met our basic requirements and also outlined possible upgrades. Based on our budget, we committed to a plan. Within two months we had permits and construction began. We were assigned a dedicated project manager with whom we met weekly to assess progress in demo and ultimately new construction. Even before demo began, we met our design angel in Ivette. She guided us through selection of fixtures, cabinetry, tile, wall coverings, flooring; all the aspects of a remodel that keeps novices like us up at night. Her calm demeanor combined with her creative ideas made this an amazingly pleasurable experience! Ivette led us to our dream design outcome, and all within the budget we worked out with savant Cory in the beginning. STEL has great relationships with all the best subcontractors & receives priority on their projects, keeping the downtime in construction to a minimum. Midway through construction, our project manager left STEL. They hired a super pro replacement in Roberto. His many years of experience enabled us to stay on track for completion and enhanced the quality of the final product. Roberto is already a tremendous asset to STEL! And all along, even as he continued to take on new projects, Cory stayed in touch and treated us as if we were his only client. No question or inquiry we had was too small or insignificant for him to address nearly as quickly as it was expressed. We moved back into our home after six months and felt like every dream we had dreamt for our forever home had come true. The outcome has exceeded our very high expectations. In Cory's introduction, he touted STEL as a small, family oriented and local Design & Build Company. He was right about that. However, we think he understated how committed to these values Seth Larson and STEL Builders really are. They get it! For people like us, this is the largest and last big expenditure we'll ever make. They treated us with respect, congeniality, honesty and integrity. Our lives and our home from now on are forever enhanced from having met and worked with Cory, Frank, Ivette and Roberto. Thank you Seth Larson for the team you've built. Thank you STEL Builders, our new extended family!

Jon is not always…read morepunctual, but it's because he *cares* about his projects, and he takes the time to really talk to you; it's worth the wait. Unlike Lars and other companies (who have project managers who drop in maybe once a day for about 15 minutes) he had one of his guys on-site during the entire duration of our project, not only working, but also supervising all the subcontractors, with the authority to fire any slackers. Our project included remodel of the kitchen, master bath, and guest bath; conversion of an office into a powder room; adding a foundation underneath a two-story addition; conversion of a bedroom into a walk-in closet and laundry room; replacing the furnace; adding central A/C; re-building of a chimney; widening and paving a driveway; building a retaining wall along the driveway to hold back the front yard; adding electrical to the garage; replacing historic windows; and that's just the major stuff. Jon takes pride in his projects and the work of his crew, and in a large job like ours that can rack up a tab pretty quickly, he offers options and gives his honest opinions. He stands by his crew's work and takes responsibility if things go awry. We have recommended him to others, and we will use him again.

The Project Manager showed up and stated Jon couldn't make it. When asked, he stated he did review the plans that I was asked to email back when I scheduled. I figured he was the project manager and he was familiar with the plans so lets get it done. After walking the job site and answering all my questions with positive answers and him further stating that "this type of job is definitely in our wheelhouse" I was excited to have a company that could finally get this project across the finish line. I confirmed he had my email address and so I waited for the quote. 1 week, 2 weeks...nothing! So I call Amanda to let her know that it's been 2 weeks and I don't have the quote yet. She tells me, oh he had Covid and that's why you haven't gotten the quote yet. She said she was going to get in touch with the owner Jon. An hour later this is the email she send to me: Hello, Thank You for the opportunity to walk through your project site. At this time we will not be able to provide the type of services you are looking for or need for your project. We thank you for your consideration and wish you the best going forward. I was shocked at their response that they were "unable to provide construction services" as they were in possession of the plans for weeks and I was insulted at the "we have no need for your project" statement! I left a voicemail for the owner asking politely for a return call to explain a little better, honestly still hoping this was some misunderstanding. I also replied to Amanda's email asking for the owner to call me. That was 9 days ago on the 21st of Jan. They have ignored all of my requests to date. I have dodged a bullet not using this company, the last thing you want is to hire a contractor that cannot communicate.

This was a major project to replace the front facade with a new entrance and deck, sandblast and stucco, remodel the kitchen and baths, upgrade interior wiring and plumbing, replace all windows and doors, create a new room in the basement, add interior stairs, etc. etc. etc. resulting in nearly a re-build of the entire house. It required an army of subcontractors ... we were thankful that we had Alan Lingol engaged as the general contractor to manage the details. Alan has a lot of experience in the construction business and was able to work with our architect, engineer, and countless sub-contractors. He also has strong people-skills and he listened carefully to our ideas and concerns. He was organized and thoughtful. We are very pleased with the end-product ... after-all, we live in our house every day. In many cases Alan came up with some great ideas that we had not thought of and now look back with relief that we had incorporated some of those ideas ... even if you're an expert yourself, you still want somebody who can look at things with a keen eye and suggest alternatives.
