My Sloppy Jersey Turk (Boar's Head Honey Turkey, Swiss Cheese, Cole Slaw, Russian Dressing on Toasted Rye) was very descriptively named. All quality ingredients, and tasty, yet very "sloppy" due to all the wetness of the slaw and Russian included in the sandwich. It was a slip-slid with every bite. Still, I appreciated the white sandwich wrapping paper that held it all together until I arrived home and was able to control its unwrapping and consumption. At ten minutes from home, Ewing Eats is close enough and good enough to be a solid alternative for our quick lunches or light meals. Those cheesesteaks and loaded fries looked pretty good, too. We originally wanted to get the smaller tray that came with three whole sandwiches but our guest list expanded so we had to make our order a bit bigger. This was well 48 hours prior to picking up the tray. When my wife called, the woman was incredibly rude. Eventually we decided to just hang up and try again later hoping to get someone else. The second person we spoke with was quite sweet. They were accommodating but again we confirmed multiple times the sandwiches that we wanted. I went to pick it up on Saturday, they put the tray in front of me and they got our sandwiches wrong. No cutlet was included, instead it was prosciutto with mozzarella and red pepper. My wife can't have the deli meats and we wanted to get the cutlet sandwich so she could eat. The girl at the front desk tried to be accommodating but went back to speak to her manager. The options were get a new sandwich made and get 10% off or leave it and get 10% off the whole catering order. (There was a sign behind them showing a promo that said 10% off now through 2/3. So that was pretty rude of the manager to suggest that since it was already 10% off). I explained that they messed up and it should be included. They refused. So I had to get the sandwich made and pay for it. Absolutely absurd customer service. Oh but don't worry, they gave us 15% of in the end. They even messed up the sides and condiments that were supposed to be included. No hot peppers, no balsamic, no mustard. All of which was printed on the receipt. And again we confirmed multiple times via phone. I suppose this was partially my fault since I trusted they would have got this right and didn't check. Just a horrible excuse for customer service. The poor girl behind the counter was trying but her manager didn't even bother to come out when a customer spending hundreds of dollars is clearly upset with their order. Pathetic. Just pay at the kiosk and lug the heavy sack out to the car. The chilies and cheese were good in themselves, but it was the red sauce that was the real star of the plate--not super spicy, but spicy enough and super flavorful. If you're expecting the melted cheese covered mess seen in many places, then you're in for a treat. The dish came with a side of potatoes, and they gave me the option of deep fried home fries. I don't like home fries as a rule (they're boring, hash brown wannabes), but the deep fry gave them flavor and a crispy outer layer, something lacking in most home fries. There were a handful of burned ones, but they died for a good cause. Our other dish was a very good California Benedict with a healthy serving of avocado, bacon, and two more correctly cooked eggs. I don't know, but getting an over-easy egg seems pretty hard to get right sometimes, so it's always a small victory when it actually happens. Service was attentive on both visits, and the inexperienced server from my first trip was assisted by a more experienced one midway through the service. Both breakfast plates and the main lunch dish I tried were absolute winners and worthy of repeating. The chicken tortilla soup didn't set my heart aflame, and I wouldn't get it again except to see if it's the same.
