Things have improved. Believe it or not. Masks and Vax ID required for entry. One of the few places serving Kokanee Gold. I forgot my phone there and the bar-keep kept it safe for me. Karaoke several nights per week. It's very clean in there. The clientele seems a lot nicer than in years past. Never been before, but me being born and raised in Edmonton, I was assuming it was a decent place to wait for my cousin. I'm on a knee scooter, unable to walk for the past month, I said "all good, see you in 5"... I rolled in on my knee scooter and 10 seconds later the owner, (Anna maybe?) Is screaming at me at the top of her lungs for me to leave! Hell ya. I'M not staying at any hole in the wall where I can't walk an I'm being screamed at for bringing in a knee scooter?? I've traveled to over 67 countries, worked 36 years in the hospitality industry and I've never been treated soo rudely in my life. Not sure what to say about this place. We came for karaoke and we sang all night!! It is not the usual place I go to however my friend recommended it for karaoke. We had a beer and picked our songs and that's exactly what we did. Sang our hearts out to Celine Dion and Alana Myles........come on down and have a beer or two and chill for a bit. read more

I'm going to be honest here - this bar scares me. It really is a dive. It's sketchy and I felt unsafe the moment I walked in here. It's a big bar but that's not a good thing. There is just more room for the filth to be spread! Karaoke is fun - it's a good time. But here, it's hard to enjoy just because of the sketchy atmosphere. I hate to say it, but skip H2O. Yes, H2O is a dive bar. Yes, some people may consider some of the patrons "sketchy", Yes, I have seen fights happen here in the past, but I've also seen fights at "cool" bars further up Whyte and a few particulars on Jasper Ave, so... I used to go here a fair amount when I was younger, in the 18-20 range. Don't ask me why, it just kind of happened. In the years since then, I haven't really gone, but I have known a few people that have birthday parties and the like there. I went again last night for the first time in years, for a birthday party. I can say that H2O does have room for big groups like that. The bar itself is pretty big, with about five (?) pool tables on one side and tables and the karaoke area (and darts!) on the other. Our waitress last night was actually one of the better servers I've had in a bar in a long time! Totally smiley, quick, friendly, never screwed anything up. Impressive, really. Sure, this place is a little rough around the edges, and perhaps the quality of the singers isn't as good as some other karaoke bars, but most of the people are just out to have a good time! I was misled to to check this place out because the radio commercials made it sound like it's a decent place. I was so wrong. 'Robin S.' mentions "fans of real dive bars"...do these people really exist. Who would want to come to a place like this? I guess maybe hipsters...so I'm glad I'm not a hipster by any means. When I first heard the name H20 Lounge I was a bit fooled. The name came off as being classy, urban and smooth. This place was the complete opposite. It is a dive. I know many people that love grimy bars and enjoy hanging out at them. They will love this place. The bar is full of some shady characters that look at you like they want trouble. It is larger than most dive bars but I think that just made it look that much worse. Everything here is old and dirty, and unlike the name nothing screams sophistication. They have karaoke which is a great time right? Not exactly. You wouldn't want to get on the mic here. Just avoid this place. read more

Been here a few times and have not had fun once. It's a slum and they treat their patrons poorly. One time when my boyfriend and a group of friends were there they refused the designated driver water. Told her they would have to charge her or she would have to buy bottles of water. The karaoke seems like it should be fun and that's usually why we have gone there, but unless you know the dj/host it whatever he is. .. you never get to sing more than one song. Terrible place! If you are looking for a bar on Whyte to eat or drink, please, don't come and waste your money in this ghetto dump! Avoid! To give some background, the current management previously owned a Chinese restaurant called Chinese Dumpling House. It earned a terrible reputation among Chinese customers, so the owner changed locations to its current location and opened H2O Lounge as well, two establishments sharing one space. We decided to try the Dumpling House, wanting to see if the food got better after switching locations. First thing we noticed when we entered was the appalling hygiene, none of the tables were wiped, and there was even leftover food on them! The food we ordered was frozen, seemingly made a long time ago. Had very little meat in the dishes and a LOT of msg in it. Very disappointing. read more

Fans of real dive bars who prefer a truly sketchy atmosphere to the dive-packed-with-hipsters vibe of the nearby Strat should wander over to the wrong side of the tracks and check out the large, sparsely-populated H2O. They've got it all: old, dirty carpet, pool tables, karaoke partial to certain members of the crowd and characters you wouldn't wanna run into in a dark alley. Hell, even running into some of the patrons in front of the bar is bad enough. But to be honest, I'd rather take my chances with the weirdos at H2O than mingle with the wasted frat boys further down the Ave. read more

Under New Ownership!! Family run business gets transferred to the younger generation, still cheap drinks- Halloween night seen its share of blood and gore-and I don't mean the costumes! Dropped in and had a pitcher of Canadian it didn't taste that great-l left after 25 minutes. I have seen they have limited food service like chicken wings, there is a Sunday 35 cent wing special which I haven't tried. The usual gaming machines to take from you what little beer money you may have left. I guess that's maybe not too bad of a thing after all. Bathrooms seem cleaner but NO BOUNCER/Doormen on Halloween!! WHAT!- the new owners want to be friendly but it should also be safe for everyone. There is always lots of available tables, and tons of people smoking outside the doors. Not sure what would turn this place around-maybe its just caters to a certain whyte ave crowd that no one else wants. I dunno-never seen drugs around except for the occasional pot heads smoking on the nearby side walk. Bar staff and servers are friendly and attentive enough. Its the kinda place where you go to forget your problems, or see other people who have worse problems. Not fair to be too critical yet -but want to see what the new owners vision will be. This homeless hangout is unfortunately around the corner from where I live. I walk by frequently past the patrons who try to bum money and cigarettes from any passers-by. It's like running a gauntlet going past this place. I've started crossing the street to walk down Whyte Ave just to avoid this place. I have never set foot inside considering I don't fit in with the usual crowd. I have a job... and teeth. read more

I have hung out at this place every Friday for about 8 years. Yes, I am a "regular" and one of those troublemakers I guess. Whatever. I have waked into bars across North America and some make me nervous and some don't. This place is my living room. Lotsa regulars and lotsa pool tables. This places hosts about 1/2 the teams in my Walmac Wednesday night pool league. Tim and Lydia are good folks. I highly recommend making this a regular Friday night stop. read more

Drinks are cheap, the new menu is good, and the wait staff are decent. The karaoke DJ is however the worst I've ever seen. As reviewer Frankie W. said earlier, unless you are a regular and the DJ knows you, you will only get to sing once. The DJ also has a short temper and a habit of yelling at the waitresses and patrons when they unknowingly don't follow his rules or don't bring him enough drinks. I would go here regularly if there was a different karaoke host. As for the regulars that hang out at H2O, some of them may look a bit rough, but most of them are very sweet and kind. read more

He is literally the ' soup nazi ' of karaoke hosts. Most of the bartenders are alright except the one who wears a lay and draws her eyebrows on crooked. I have to let something off my chest about this place, even though this wont get to anybody but this is where i can voice my opinion. I was fine with this place right up to the point when i met the biggest jerk of a d.j for the karaokee. He snapped at me because i went up to him and told him the song code. not taking in the fact that i dont know how it works at other bars thats all i had to do. well he didnt like me right off from start. so i did the song eventually because there is some rotation b.s that he does. yeah i requested to a song in the right fashion. i waited two hours while he is sending up people who came in after me. this one girl when up there like 3 times back to back. i think this guy deserve a smack in the head for being such an idiot. and for treating everyone like an idiot. read more

OK, I read everything that was posted about H20. I started to attend this bar on Friday nights after work only. The people in the bar are all types. The people I meet are good guys that work hard in the construction Industry and want to relax for a few beers before heading off home. They do not have to worry about how they look after work and can relax and be served by one of the many excellent waitress's. All bars have good people and shady people. That is life! The owners are friendly and always watching what is going on and even join in with a pool game or two. Many times the owners have come around with plates of simple, free foods to try. I am not a shady woman and in fact am in a management position. If you want a simple bar where you can be yourself and enjoy a game of pool or join into karaoke without anyone snubbing you - this is the place. Sports games are always shown on the many big TV's provided. If you do not like other patrons or how they look, just do your own thing. No-one will bother you and the owners or bouncer will take care of anything that my transpire. That is my opinion as a regular (sorta) on Fridays, after work crowd. Can't speak for later in the evening as I usually only stay till 8:00 PM. read more
