Like Rosie's off Whyte, I have grown to love Hawkeye's Too for its great service, and unpretentious food and atmosphere. Hawkeye's Too has delicious (and amazingly cheap) food. I've tried the pizza bread, nachos and both Cajun chicken and grilled cheese sandwiches, all of which were tasty and all of which were in the $6-9 range. The beer is cheap and cold, although I'll never forget the conversation when I first sat down: Waitress: "What'll you have to drink?" Me: "What kind of beers do you have on tap?" Waitress: "Canadian." Me: "I'll have a Canadian." Service here is very good. The ladies who have served me remember my name, and are always warm. Mary in particular is a totally amazing server, and one of my favourite waitresses in the city - I look forward to seeing her every time I go! Make no mistake though, these servers know how rough around the edges their clientele can be, and they don't take crap. I can tell. This is such an odd little place. It's barely a block off the really trendy part of Jasper Ave, close to trendy spots like The Hat. It draws some of the same crowd in as those more popular bars, but it also has a real mix of people filling up the tables and booths. It's a lower-scale place that's part restaurant, part bar. The pizza was surprisingly VERY yummy here! Although they don't have very many beers on tap (I think it was a total of 1), we still had a really fun night with a big group of friends here. Out waitress (I forget her name, but everyone else seemed to know her) was fantastic. She was friendly and attentive (which was very impressive given how busy the place was). If you're not an amazing karaoke singer and find yourself too shy to sign up to sing a song or two for fear of mangling it, this might be the place for you: karaoke is filled with regulars who range from awesome to really poor when it comes to replicating the songs they are attempting to sing, but all are enthusiastic and this makes for a really fun evening! This dive bar has remarkably good pizza for what it has. It has a pretty limited selection of drink options when compared to the fancier downtown watering holes but if you're after fancy drinks you're evidently not going to be seeking this place out. Wait staff are efficient and effective at their jobs and the food comes out of the kitchen remarkably quickly. I asked my friend if he wanted to go slum it up in a dive bar, but since he has a talent for getting mugged he suggested Hawkeye's instead. I was skeptical, but decided to give it a try. Immediately upon being seated, the server got us drinks and dropped off a menu. I settled on the dry ribs and a Cajun chicken burger, both of which were excellent. I'm pretty sure the chicken was brined before being rolled in the spices, which is rare, and I thought about that for a while as I sipped Canadian from a giant mustard glass and watched an altercation unfold between three gentlemen. One of them was kicked out. He immediately went to the window where he began to shout and gesture at the other two, until a random passerby started a fight with him while he wasn't looking and he got his face slammed against the glass window. Someone behind the bar put the dueling banjos song from Deliverance on, and it hit a crescendo right as the fight went to ground. Then, as suddenly as the fight began, they both got up and left in different directions. I went outside to smoke a cigarette, and the manager told me he was sorry if my dinner had been ruined. Quite the contrary, I assured him, and then started a debate with a biker with a ZZ Top beard and a chick who'd just come from a rave about whether the gentleman who had been kicked out was on drugs. The raver and I agreed that no, he wasn't. It wasn't long before he came back, though, and started making tearful gestures at the two men who'd remained inside. He looked like he was in agony, which I guess prompted the same guy behind the bar to put on REM's "Everybody Hurts." Out of nowhere the same guy from before appeared to beat him up again, and they both left after some shooing by the manager. Before long we were absorbed by a table of clean-cut folks in their early twenties who kept handing us drinks. We started talking politics and laughing too loudly, and it was somewhere around this point that I realized that the place was suddenly full and that despite that, the one server in the entire place was effortlessly keeping up. Hawkeye's is a hidden little restaurant just off Jasper on 102 Street, near the Starlite Room. It's another place that's popular with the downtown work crowd for lunch. It doesn't look like much on the outside (kind of dive-like actually), but the interior is cozy and tasteful. They have a dining area on one half, and a bar and lounge with pool tables on the other. I've tried their baked lasagna and french onion soup, and can vouch that both are safe bets (the lasagna was better though). I also heard their pizzas, sandwiches, and -- oddly enough, their wonton -- are the best things on the menu. Service is always really good; the staff make sure your glasses are re-filled and everything is to your liking. As for prices, everything is reasonably priced, if not cheaper than what you would find elsewhere in downtown. Definitely worth a try! read more

Looks can definitely be deceiving when you first spot this delightful diamond in the rough, but I highly recommend you check them out. I've had their lasagna, Wor Wonton soup and pizzas. Ahhh Hawkeye's, or Hot Guys as I used to call it for some inexplicable reason when I go would there before shows at the Rev (now Starlite Room). I hadn't been there for years, so I was a mix of excited and apprehensive to go back there, since it used to be quite the dive. Me, Jacqueline S. and Brittany K. decided to start off our Saturday night here. I was pretty impressed when I walked in because a) Notorious B.I.G. was playing (THAT was unexpected!) and b) the place actually looks pretty nice now. Big, comfy brown leather chairs, new looking tables, a long bar, and it was all very clean. The waitress reminded me of me if I were to become a waitress; efficient, put together, knew her stuff, and didn't seem to give a crap (and didn't seem like she would take any crap, either). My inability to be fake friendly is exactly why I am not in the service industry, but she pulled it off. She was playing wicked music, too. I'm pretty sure it was just her iPod. A bottle of Keith's was $5.75, and a vodka water was only $4.50! I indulged and had a plate of poutine for $5.95. It was pretty good, and the portion was basically the size of a regular dinner plate, so it wasn't too much food. Their menu seemed quite extensive, so there's lots to choose from and the prices were reasonable. We were a little surprised when the karaoke was fired up at 9pm, but it was definitely entertaining. Who sings Vincent at karaoke?! I mean, I love that song, but talk about depressing. It wasn't very busy on a Saturday night. We left by 10pm and there were still only a handful of people in there, a mix of people who looked like regulars and a few younger people. Hawkeye's is like the perfect neighbourhood dive bar, and I'll be happy to start going there again. This dive bar is a blast if you like to people watch or shoot some pool. This place has great lounge style chairs and lots of areas for larger groups. Non-stop karaoke provides loads of entertainment weather you're with a group of flying solo. You don't have to be an all-star singer to get up and do your thing, in fact, most of the people who get up to sing are not trying to replicate the actual song they're singing at all and it makes for a hilarious show. Now here's the best part... the kitchen is open until 2am! That's right, FULL MENU until 2am! It's great to have a place to pop in and grab some late night food that doesn't come from a drive through. This place has the basics like pizza and a large list of appetizers great for sharing such as nachos, fries, onions rings, pizza bread, wings etc.It also has burgers & sandwiches, pasta dishes and more! The food is well priced, and the service is fast. I'll definitely be back! I had the onion rings and a salami and pineapple pizza. The onion rings were great and the pizza was amazing. If you're looking to head home and eat instead of eating in, I would recommend replacing your late night pizza delivery by stopping in and taking one of these home. For a dive bar, I really love this place. It makes me step back into my younger years as the place seems to be frozen in the 80's, including the menu! It is very much Diner fare here. Monte Cristo and Beef Dip amongst other favourites are served here. The fries are pretty great. Not much on tap for beer selection. Our favourite server, Mary is very "no nonsense". The regulars here are always very colorful, and she makes sure that everyone behaves. Once you are a regular, she will make sure you feel at home! Hawkeye's has intrigued me ever since another very discerning Yelper told me that he believes they serve one of the best pizzas in Edmonton. So before a show at the Starlite Room, we headed here. And the pizza was actually very good - I remember it as pillowy and fresh. Service was friendly and efficient. And I'm impressed that they were able to keep a straight face during some terrible karaoke renditions. My only qualm is the beer selection. Forgive my snobbery, but I'd prefer to see a better beer than Canadian on tap and a better bottle selection as well. Karaoke dive bar with great pizza. This is the place you go to check out the regulars and listen to some usually average karaoke (which is nice, other bars try too hard) in a laid back atmosphere. You don't go here for their craft beer selection. The drink offerings are limited. The pizza is really good though! I somehow didn't make it to Hawkeye's until last Friday night. I was out with some friends, and our plans for another restaurant were quickly changed when we saw their line-up out the door. We turned around a couple of times until our sights were set on Hawkeye's. We were greeted immediately, and beers were brought promptly to our table. Even though it was close to 8 pm when we arrived, we still enjoyed happy hour prices. Our food followed soon thereafter. The pizzas were fantastic, and my patty melt was pretty good (though I would have preferred rye with caraway seeds--but a minor gripe, especially in this town where such bread is hard to come by). I am almost positive my fries were homemade, but in any case, they were outstanding. The beer selection was nothing fantastic, but as long as you don't have a beer snob in your group, you'll be fine. The interior appeared as though it had been recently renovated, but that was just a feeling I got. The ladIes' room was spotless, and I noticed a DJ setting up a karaoke machine as we left. We came here after work so very convenient. For years I heard alot about this place being really popular for the after work crowd. I just never got a chance to try it until my colleagues wanted to go. I'm a fan! I head their food and it was yummy. It appears to be updated from the last time I walked passed (a couple of years ago now). There was a nice mixture of business people and regulars. A gentleman whom we assumed is the manager approached us and intimidated us, lied and told us we rolled marijuana cigarretes and that he saw it in cam which is a total lie. "How about lunch at Hot Guys?" - what every person hears as soon as someone asks them for lunch at Hawkeyes. Up until finding this restaurant on Yelp, I had no idea that it was called Hawkeye's Too? Whatever, honestly not important. This is yet another lunch-time perspective review. I've been going to this place for 5+ years (since working nearby downtown) and this remains my favorite place to go for lunch. Mind you, I've only had the pizza. I go with coworkers regularly and they order a variety of menu items (won-ton soup, burgers, fish) and I've heard nothing but good things. I can assure you this is the best pizza in the city for $7.00. The restaurant is owned by a man that resembles UFC's Lyoto Machida. He is seen running around the restaurant delivering food and chatting with their regulars. Mary is a waitress in the lounge area who gives you great service and attention. Your waters are always full and she's always asking, "can I get you guys anything?" in a typical raspy road-side diner voice. It's actually quite awesome. The restaurant itself could have used a make-over 20 years ago, but for some reason it just suits the Hawkeye's atmosphere. VLTs, Pool Table, brown wooden decor and grimey carpets reminds you that you are definitely in the heart of "Dirt City" (coined by Cadence Weapon, Edmonton's local rapper and Poet Laureate). I've also been here on a Saturday night where the bar is full of scary looking bikers and possible homeless individuals who were quite intimidating at first, but once the Kareoke got started they were right beside me belting out Backstreet Boys lyrics. I recommend this place for anyone that is looking for homestyle cooking at a lunch hour. You'll be in and out of there in less than an hour and you'll be full from the great (and cheap) offerings. For the record, I get the 8" Beef and Onion (#11) well done with extra sauce and a side of ranch all for the low price of $10 (this includes a generous tip). Unbelievable! RR read more

Ordered a pizza, upon recommendation from Yelp. When I got there, I saw rough looking patrons outside, smoking cigarettes and swearing. When I walked in, the crowd was less than savoury and I couldn't find anyone manning the bar or bussing tables. Honestly- staff was MIA. A guy at the end of the bar was rolling cigarettes and yelling at the baseball game on the tv. Another couple entered that looked like the after picture from a Dangers of Meth poster. There was another woman who was angry and swearing about someone else- I think one of the people from outside. She was clearly looking for a fight. The guy at the end of the bar suggested if I was looking to order something, I might have better luck at the other end of the bar. I said, "just here to pick up a pizza." He then mentioned that the kitchen was toward the back, as he pointed to the VLT machines. I walked to the back and saw a dimly lit hallway, which looked to be leading to some sort of kitchen. No activity heard that way. I didn't feel like hollering for help, so I just walked out. They might have ok food for a dive bar. I've been to dive bars, so I knew what to expect. But this is a new low. At least a dive bar or neighbourhood pub should have visible, friendly staff. This place did not. Will stick to Rosebowl for North American style pizza in the downtown area. 0 stars/incomplete. Won't be back. read more

The wonton soup is good. The pizza is alright if you enjoy a thicker Greek-style pie. The regulars seem like a friendly enough crowd. Don't expect that this place keeps hours as regular as those posted on this page, though. I'm of the impression that they close early when it's slow. read more

This is a great lunch spot downtown if you have a group. The menu is extensive, the service is average, the prices are extremely fair AND the food is good! There was a group of 8 of us today for lunch. We had a reservation and there was a table waiting for us with water at each place. The waitress came promptly to take a beverage order and returned quite quickly after that for the food order. With 1 hour for lunch we were able to eat our meal and not feel rushed. When the bill came, it was only $90 for 8 people for lunch. I think that's quite reasonable, considering half our table was able to take home leftovers. I've had the pizza and the chicken burger. Both are great. I hear they do an excellent Wonton/War Wonton. It's a regular for our office crew. Funniest moment was when I first heard about the restaurant, I thought one of my coworkers (has Australian accent) was calling the place "Hot Guys". I had no idea what to expect!! read more

I'm not a big karaoke fan but that's why my friends picked this place. It turned out to be a lot of fun but the 4 stars is mostly for the awesome waitresses (only 2 that I saw in the entire packed place on a Saturday night) who literally jogged from table to bar to table taking orders, clearing plates, cleaning up spills, and refilling glasses in the most efficient manner ever. These ladies worked harder than any service person I have ever seen. I hope everyone tipped them very well because they did the work of 6 servers. The pizza was pretty good ( I prefer more tomato sauce), the dry ribs were tasty and the clubhouse was very good. I bet they do a great business at lunch if they can manage to serve this many people quickly in the evening. Only one pool table here though which is a shame as it was always busy. read more

So a group of us heard about Hawkeyes so we wanted to come check it out for my friends birthday on February 21, 2015.We heard that on the weekends it's pretty fun with the karaoke. We showed up around 10:00pm and there were about eight of us. We looked for a table to accommodate us and found there was a restaurant side that opened to the bar side. We decided to sit there. There was a lot of room and we could also see where they were singing karaoke. There was a mix of people there. From young to older and some well dressed to some not so much. We waited for what seemed to be a long time for a waitress and when she did arrive She took our order but wasn't very friendly. I think her name was Row or Rue. Anyways, there was a lot of interesting people who were singing. It was enjoyable to see. Our waitress wasn't very good so we tried to go get drinks at the bar. Again we stood there and waited for our bartender but not because she was busy but because the bartender was too busy talking to our waitress. When I finally got her attention she seemed bothered by us ordering drinks and interrupting her conversation. A couple of my girlfriends and I sat at the bar and noticed that it wasn't just us that she was unfriendly too. We ended up leaving because service was crappy and we didn't want to waste our money where it seemed that we were such a bother. It is unfortunate because we wanted to stay and eat and because I also heard the pizza was good. Maybe we will come back again and try hopefully on a weekend when those two are not working. read more
