I've tried the pizza bread, nachos and both Cajun chicken and grilled cheese sandwiches, all of which were tasty and all of which were in the $6-9 range. The beer is cheap and cold, although I'll never forget the conversation when I first sat down: Waitress: "What'll you have to drink?" Me: "What kind of beers do you have on tap?" Waitress: "Canadian." Me: "I'll have a Canadian." Service here is very good. The ladies who have served me remember my name, and are always warm. Mary in particular is a totally amazing server, and one of my favourite waitresses in the city - I look forward to seeing her every time I go! Make no mistake though, these servers know how rough around the edges their clientele can be, and they don't take crap. I can tell. Karaoke nights are hilarious and just as unpretentious as the rest of the Hawkeye's experience. Go on a Thursday-Saturday night and find out for yourself! I'm always enjoy my visits here; great little spot in downtown Edmonton.

It draws some of the same crowd in as those more popular bars, but it also has a real mix of people filling up the tables and booths. It's a lower-scale place that's part restaurant, part bar. The pizza was surprisingly VERY yummy here! Although they don't have very many beers on tap (I think it was a total of 1), we still had a really fun night with a big group of friends here. Out waitress (I forget her name, but everyone else seemed to know her) was fantastic. She was friendly and attentive (which was very impressive given how busy the place was). I would come by again for the pizza and a beer next time I'm in the mood for a very laid-back evening.

The cocktails are great. The service was not so great, even though we told them that we were celebrating a graduation. Nothing special and it was so loud that we were yelling at each other. I would overlook it if I thought the food was good. For the amount we paid, the food was okay but nothing that I would run back here for. So I don't get the hype. We ordered a bunch of cocktails (because we were celebrating but not that our server understood that because she didn't even get a congratulation) . and a bunch of food House pork dumplings Truffle Siu Mai Beef Tartare Cha- Siu Shanghai Noodles Wai Siu Chow Fan with added cha-siu 5 spice duck tacos Mozza sticks Nothing stood out. I found they were really heavy with the 5 spice which can be overpowering. I really don't understand the hype. And really everything kinda tasted the same. Like it was painted with the same paintbrush. I was trying to think of something to say about each individual item but really I can't and the portions weren't great. The rice and the noodles were decent but the duck tacos and the beef tartare were almost an embarrassing portion. Unless my child wants to celebrate her masters here, I won't be back.

The staff were getting busy when we arrived after a show at the citadel but they were quick and made sure to still check on us frequently. Waters were never empty and our food came out promptly after we ordered. I was immediately drawn to the fermented purple corn drink (Ponche De Chicha) which was so delightful! Fruity but not over powering. A nice amount of ice and an interesting pineapple garnish to go with an interesting drink. We were also very eager to try the brussel sprouts, which were absolutely amazing! Brussels Sprouts Elote: honey glazed Brussels sprouts and drizzled with that chipotle lime aioli, and so much feta cheese. Plus I believe a portion of sales of this dish goes to the food bank. Always love supporting a good cause while enjoying good food. To finish it off we had to dip into the dessert menu and get the Sticky pudding. The sauce divine and I wished for a smidge more. A touch over salted but still delightful. I still stand by my review 7 years ago this place gets the full 5 stars!
