The epic awesome Mural behind the new patio.

I'm really liking the renovations of this local favorite. They've done a fabulous job, in fact it's almost like they knew the pandemic was coming because it's perfectly spaced out, kept very clean and the staff has adapted really well to the new normal. I would've given it five stars -- however, there is a very strange concept they have enacted. Recently they opened up this most fabulous and incredible patio (where the old hotdog company was) ... but what is strange is all the drink prices are double the cost from the inside to the outside - so for example a pint can be as low as $3.75 just like black dog and other cool places on the Avenue but then when you go outside to the patio the exact same pint costs $7.75. Also they only take cash which is very strange especially during a pandemic, as everyone is doing touchless etc. no debit no Mastercard nothing literally pure cash only. But besides touchless factor, people are also on tight budgets so coming up with cash is more difficult then using credit - it is much easier spending wise. How do I know that the patio concept isn't going over as well? Because it's normally half empty -- yesterday was absolutely incredible day & evening and there's like four people on it. Hopefully, they'll correct this oversight before summer ends -- it will be the only way to pay for the exorbitant amount they likely spent making the patio.

They just renovated again. New artwork throughout. And the VLT area now has a bar counter. Older crowd. Happy hour. Starting to serve some food now, so you can't bring in any. They opened up the walls. Music is still great! Blues artists from all over North America. Great for people watching Lost a star for the smaller pints. Haha! Good luck finding parking. This place is a classic.

A Blues dive bar. It's gross in here but I always have a great time. My father in law makes us all go every time he visits Edmonton and it never fails to entertain. Booze is fairly cheap so we were getting the rounds in and had decent service from the bar staff. She remembered our order which was impressive, as the place was packed after the gnr concert. It's had a bit of a reno so the bathrooms are a lot nicer. They still book awesome blues bands from all over and last night it was like a bluesy cabaret show from 'The Good The Bad And The Blues'. The lead guitarist did a solo while walking around dance floor, then up to our seats and got my mother in law to play the guitar. It was awesome!! She had some night! Her high heel strap broke so we ended up on a mission for a stapler and discovered the door that joins blues to the hotel next door. They fixed her shoe! Huzzah! We danced, we drank, we had a blast. Till next year.

Even though I love blues, Blues on Whyte is not my cup of tea. While the music is always great, whenever I was at this club, I couldn't help but wonder why the owner couldn't clean up and spruce up this place a little. There are plenty of tables to seat at, and there is a pool tables area, but everything is extremely worn down and looks millions years old. This place could use a total overhaul. The crowd at Blues on Whyte is made up of relaxed and drunk people who crave some blues. I will stress again that the music played here is fantastic! Nothing makes me feel more at ease and puts me in a good mood than blues, but only if I am enjoying it in clean surroundings while breathing air that is not "soaked" with beer.

The chairs are pretty standard for a venue like this and the stage set up looks pretty versatile. I liked the fact that the restroom was for all genders. There was some great art on display and for purchase as well. While this neighborhood is not one I visit frequently, it is an easily transit accessible location and there was street parking available in the area (I understand this is pretty limited when there's an event going on at the Stadium however). The building looks well weathered but well used as a live music venue. Purchasing tickets in advance was easy and the associated website was good. I'd definitely go to another show here. There is good acoustics for the venue in general. Signage isn't great -- it would be better if the building had better identification.

From the outside it still looks like a house but it's a funky house, the window coverings are pretty iconic of The Aviary already! The cool thing is, now that it's finished I can really see how much work they have put into the place! The entrance way is more like a venue (and less like walking into a living room) it brings you round to the bar and where you pay cover etc, once properly inside the space has a nice bar the length of the room, a handful of tables and chairs, decent size stage at the back, local art displayed all round and awesome sound! The vibe is cosy, and there big emphasis on supporting local artists - I dig that. I like the beer listings on the wall - mostly craft beer and Phil knows a lot about them and recommended a really nice lager to me while I was there. I already love watching bands in this space and can't wait to go back.

I see…read moreother reviews talking about a $5.00 membership, but they must have gotten rid of that because I've never been asked to pay for a membership. The venue is old and full of character for sure, but it is not accessible at all if you have any kind of mobility issues. And it's a shame, because the management does seem to WANT to be inclusive, but they are terribly limited by the physical location. It's true that you walk down a dingy and dank outdoor hallway to get to the entrance, and then walk up a whole bunch of stairs to get to the ID checking station. Then you go in and get to the ticket scanning station. Maybe she was having a bad day, but the attitude from her was really off-putting. When you have a mobile ticket, apparently they can't scan the QR Code if you have your phone in dark-mode. I've never had that issue with any other venue accepting my mobile tickets, but maybe their scanner is different. Anyway, she was really annoyed with me for that. Once inside, there were 3 bars open and the bartenders were all super friendly. We went back to the same bartender each time and she always remembered our orders. As others have said, the washrooms are down a flight of stairs. If you choose to leave while there are still people lined up to get in, you will have to squeeze past them in that same dank alley/hallway thing you came in - There are no other exits (though I'm sure you could use the other doors in the event of an emergency). The slanted dance floor is not everyone's cup of tea, but I think it adds to the quirky character of the old building. I thought the sound quality from the performers were great for both shows I saw and the lighting was excellent as well.

Bar gets very crowded with spectators leaning against it. You are not allowed to exit at East doors by stage, so this means a lot of in and out traffic at the ticket gate. People just need to learn some manners. It's $10.00 to park in the nearby lot. Bathrooms are ok.

It's pretty small and only holds about 130 people but it's popular so expect a line up. Check your coat, there is nowhere to keep your jackets if you want to take them off. The drinks are reasonably priced and the bar is well stocked. It's got fun vibes, and a quirky set up. You can also hire out the venue too. And then I had tickets for 2 shows just a few weeks from each other. So I figured let's review The Winspear. This concert hall is fantastic in terms of acoustics. I'm sure you've seen other reviews say something similar. There aren't many bad seats, and most of the shows here are concerts so have good sound will be the most important thing imo. The space is beautiful, bathrooms are clean, lots of space in the lobby, coat check is a reasonable $2, and the line for the bar or snacks wasn't to long. The one thing that's a downside is the seating chart, or maybe better to explain it trying to find your seat. The first show I saw (Foil, Arms, & Hog: Skittish) the usher pointed to where my seat was. Sat down and 10 minutes later a man came up and said I was in his seat. No problem, got up, asked another usher where to go. I was further down on the main floor. The second show (1922 film Nosferatu with a live playing of the massive Davis concert organ) my friend and I went were we thought we should sit. We entered on the left doors and there was no usher there. But something didn't feel right so I went to the main doors to ask an usher if we were in the right spot. He pointed to where we were sitting so I went back there. A few minutes later another group of people in that section we were in realized they were in the wrong spot when other people came to their seats. And that group(the ones that had to move) said they were in the section our tickets said. Obviously we were in the wrong spot, so we moved to right seats. So that was confusing with the seats and there isn't anything, other than on the doors to mark what the sections are. The fact that two different ushers at two different shows I've been to told me to go to the wrong seats is a bit frustrating. There is an online interactive map, but I find on a phone it's hard to see and navigate. Maybe have a paper map outside by the doors, especially the ones on the left and right side if no usher is going to be there. That's my one gripe about the Winspear. Other than that both the shows were great. The Winspear is right downtown and the library parkade is nearby. There's also Churchill station nearby, so pretty accessible for transit. I've already got tickets for a third show I'm seeing in a few weeks, so I hopefully I won't get sent to the wrong seats.

There's nothing like being time warped into the 1970s and watching old cartoons and advertisements on the TVs while eating your dinner or having a drink. Everything from the color scheme to the light fixtures to the trinkets collected behind the bar screams 1970s, and made for a fun, goofy, comforting nostalgia. We started with drinks at the bar while we waited for a table. They have a good selection of local brews as well as cocktails. Even the names of the drinks made me smile.
