We are an HDFC, which means we own our own Apartments and hired HSC as a managing agent to assist in the daily functions of running a co-op. We have a Board in place and all decisions are "supposed" to go through us. I say this because some of the HSC buildings are owned by them. All was great in the beginning when we had to fire our previous management co for a myriad of reasons. Josh Koppel was attentive and sprouting how he would take of everything, and how the previous mgmt co "should not mess with him". The transition was pretty much stress-free. We received monthly maintenance bills, they provided excellent, concise statements and I say that because this simple function was severely lacking at, our previous Mgmt Co. They referred porters, accountants, vendors, and a Lawyer, all of which we interviewed and hired. All seem to be going great until it wasn't. They would fail when it came to needing assistance in our storefront renters, problems with shareholder issues, finding solutions to building problems, loss in income, and answering calls and emails. All were met with rudeness, lies, and lack of attention. All is good if your building is making money and they don't have to do anything. There is so much grift and nepotism at HSC, it will make your head spin. I was warned before hiring them, "Josh Koppell likes to take over". I wasn't sure what that meant but I sure do now. He has to profit off every vendor and outsources almost every function so you end up paying several different entities in addition to their monthly fee, which was very inexpensive on the face. They sabotaged us. Offered no assistance during the pandemic where they continued to get paid and just watched us fall with losing so much in rental income. They try to divide and create riffs amongst board members- they like the ones that are silent and don't ask questions. They refuse to answer questions regarding finances and remove us from their "Master Plans" from which they profit off. I should add, almost every vendor is his relative, including those that are on his "Master Plans". Myra, the building Manager, should not go unmentioned either. She lies and her only job is to serve her boss. It's a joke that she is Manager. read more

Worst management company I've dealt with. Since HSC Management took over, the building has gone downhill fast. Ongoing elevator problems, essential services and amenities being taken offline, unresolved pest issues, and inconsistent heat have all become part of daily life. Communication is poor with no updates. Debra kaplan is a snake who avoids responsibility and is extremely rude to tenants on the phone. This company operates with a shocking lack of integrity, preying particularly on elderly tenants with made-up charges and bogus legal threats. Their strategy seems clear: overwhelm tenants--many of whom may not have the resources to fight back--with frivolous court cases, hoping they'll either give up or be unable to keep up with their demands. Instead of acting as responsible property managers, HSC Management treats its tenants like easy targets for exploitation. Maintenance issues go ignored, communication is abysmal, and their billing practices are outright fraudulent. Property managers aren't certified, they're licensed, if their operating within the law, which is one thing HSC has never been accused of. Must New York property management companies have a real estate broker's license? YES. Key components of property management (collecting rent, maintenance fees, and conducting transfers ) are considered real estate activities under existing New York real estate licensing laws. If a property manager is performing any of these duties or placing tenants on behalf of a landlord client, he or she will need a broker's license. HSC doesn't have the knowledge, integrity or desire to "manage a financial crisis," although they have no problem with creating them. 1 star is too good for them. read more

If there were a choice to give ZERO STARS, I would!!! HSC Management has been hired to manage the building that I live in starting January 1, 2019 in spite of their 1.5 star rating... They are quite poor at managing, in my opinion... On March 4th, 2019, there was a fire in the building's​ laundry room in the basement... All I've gotten from Keith S. when I would contact him (when he chose to reply to my e-mails) were nothing but excuses... Here we are, 2 days shy of going on EIGHT MONTHS LATER, and there is still no working laundry room AND there are no self-service​ laundromats left in the area... Thankfully, the building owner FIRED them in less than 9 months... Read the reviews here from other reviewers, and then go and read the reviews that have been written by their employees... Pay attention to the dates and make sure the reviews have been posted prior to 10/2/19 as they may now be trying to shill reviews to get a better rating... Pay attention to all the reviewers comments posted here prior to mine... Their experience with this company is similar to mine... Also, I would highly suggest that when corresponding with HSC Management to do so by e-mail so you can keep a paper trail... If you choose to contact them by phone and are in NY, it is legal to tape record the conversation if you are the one making the call, so this way you have evidence of what transpired during your phone conversation... This is a terrible management company. I've requested for a repair to be done due to a leak in the above apartment that should be covered by them and everyone just ignores my emails and message. Mind you the apartment above is the Super's and his wife a member of the coop board, who have been made aware of the issue and they do not replay. Guess they do not care as it does not affect them. I reached out to the management company and same thing, no one will even respond. I suppose this his why people seek to be in positions of power not to help but to get away with not doing anything and all the while getting paid for it. I know have to pay my maintenance every month but you don't have to actually maintain anything. read more

I had liked to read all the reviews before investing my entire life in this place/company. every dollar, every tax year, so many years avoiding vacations saving money just to find out this is the worst place on earth full of hatred, racism, discrimination, hypocrisies, bullying, bad management, etc. we brought an apartment in 2019 at Ossining NY we were looking for better schools and housing for ours kids so we found the schools but the housing it is a total mess, we were complaining with josh Koppel and HSC for years about the woman above us which is a racist, bullying doing any kind of misconduct on purpose, even was doing prostitution, etc. after 11:00 pm she has created a routine walking all around her place the floor here is like 200 years old you can hear everything and nothing were done. still after 11/2 year new people moved below us (Puerto Rican from the bronx) they listened to the music and tv very loudly in the bedroom at night we complained about this with management nothing change so I spoke politely with the woman she stop with that noise (before all these situation and covid19) I used to do the garden in from of the building to calm my blood pressure of course with the permission of the office, board president, and the super just flowers not vegetables. a few months after that my gardening stuff began to disappear my pot, plants removed from the place it was, the new people were vandalizing my belongings. I saw that in my camera. again I made the notification to the management and also informed him the woman mentioned a gun if someone tries to get close to their windows and (I'm talking about the common area that is for everyone). The new people think because they are living in the basement the land outside belong to them. last summer/fall very far from their windows on the other side of the building I placed on new plants, grass seeds, spread bags of soils everything was fine the management or president never complained about it. but they ( new people) began placing the dog to pee in the new grass after others provocations I let the management know about it and he said I will send a written notification they stop with the dog situation but in several times they began watching tv after 10:00 pm loud in revenge. on one occasion I had to call the police that was in march the noise was intentional (2 o 3 weeks before I had a surgery due to my blood pressure problem) I was in pain my kids on bed and my husband working a Sunday. the very next day at night they did the same thing after 10:00 pm lack of consideration from above and below my apartment I got angry my body was in stress, in pain, my mind just became blind many years without peace I started to talk loud. a few day after that my husband and me were bringing food inside. in the spot caused by the dog were green fliers and smell like pee my husband dump a little baking soda on the spot the new people have camera on their windows and right away their sent the video to josh Koppel and hsc he called my husband screaming, yelling, threatening him to send the police to us which he did and accused of dumping a suspicious powder to poison the dog. (we never had been doing hazard to anyone or animal). that call was abuse of power this management never did nothing to fix ours complaints nevertheless he treating us like criminals with not respect even calling us victims we are professionals people polite with a good heart just waiting patently to see a positive change in this place but with administrations like that i do not think so I have invested time and money to clean and fix rather than damaging the property Josh Koppel and the board president has not empathy. they did not realize that situation was revenge for what had happened. he crossed the line I hope you never feel that feeling in your chest of not wanting to return to the place that is supposed to be your home your place of peace. I'm without words after living in one of the properties HSC manages for six years, and will be selling in large part because they simply refuse to take care of their tenants/owners and I can no longer deal with the lack of responsibility, Please don't buy any of their properties, please don't bother interacting with their employees, please save yourself the time and hassle and buy or rent with any other company. There is no point in working with them, HSC is by far the most negligent, lazy, and useless management company I've had the misfortune of dealing with in more than two decades in NYC, and I'm genuinely surprised they're still operational. Poor Service - I live in one of there units and I accidentally lost my only building keys and now it been almost three months and I am still waiting for them to sent me the building front door key. No one replies to the email/calls - they told me its back order and we waiting from the supplier to deliver to them (excuse) - How can someone cannot have any humanity towards someone - I have been waiting for hours and hours to for someone to let me in. I am a new resident (Owner of the apt) hence I don't know much people in the building, Its so painful especially in this winter time to be outside. This has to be one of the worst landlord/management companies in NYC. Our building has lacked heat and hot water many, many times during winter. When we call the super, the super does nothing and just says, "Call the office." When we call the office, they generally either do not respond, or are rude. The problems have persisted despite countless 311 complaints, phone calls to elected officials, and the like. Illegal construction, lack of permits -- you name it. Where do I even begin!? By far the worst management company I have ever dealt with. Everyone in that office is beyond rude with no manners. They must have hired everyone with a high school degree because their is level of professionalism is NON-EXISTENT. No matter the issue they always direct my call to Melissa Melendez, the rudest one of them all. She always has an attitude over the phone, leaves you on hold for 10mins the least and who blatantly doesnt care about your problems to resolve. I moved out of the building 2 months ago and have not received my last month's rent.....because the idiots made a payment to the building. How is that possible? I clearly sent an email to HSC back in October confirming my leave and to send the check to the new home address. 3 months later all i get is a "there was a discrepancy issue" - Let's be clear the real discrepancy was my call today. If i dont call and have an attitude THINGS WILL NOT GET DONE!! Its a shame that one has to be rude to get a response from them. I feel semi-bad for Melissa who receives the brunt of this but she doesn't care about her job and it shows. Please, save yourself from the headache and do not rent/buy anything from this company. Fires, floods, neglect, incompetence, grift, and more. I'm so glad that I decided to come here and read the reviews on HSC Management--I'm not inflating or imagining my grievances. They are truly the WORST. Someone here wrote, "Danielle T. is stupid at best." Truer words have never been written and no more can be expressed in words (you have to experience it, honestly). In the months since I purchased and have been living in a dwelling managed by HSC, all I can say is they are the most incompetent, unreliable, unprofessional set of folks I've ever encountered in all my life of living in managed apartments in New York. It's really quite stunning that a business operates likes this and stays afloat. If I knew my building was managed by these idiots, I would never have moved here. I've surmised the way they manage to keep their portfolios of managed properties intact--in particular, co-ops--is that Board members are getting kickbacks. There's no other explanation for why a co-op corporation would hire them to manage given the risk of litigation they present because of poor management and non-existent customer service. A few clicks to these YELP postings (all negative!) would quickly kill any talks of contract engagement or renewal with HSC immediately. Even the co-op boards that fire HSC have nightmarish experiences untangling themselves because HfSC fails to release tenant and financial records--just read deeply into the reviews dating back years. Apparently, they're a mess, any and all are advised to avoid them. Calls and emails go unanswered, email exchanges are laughable and very Who's-On-First, confusing and comical if it were not happening in real life. Any co-op corporation that engages with these clowns is begging for a lawsuit. If you're reading this BEFORE you sign your peace of mind away--good move, get out of the deal. I'm as serious as cancer. If you're newly-duped like me, stay in communication with your real estate attorney and firmly decide that anywhere HSC manages will not be your 'forever home.' Live at 7 pine tower in yonkers.There was a fire three nights ago. Firefighters and residents were injured. The building lost power water,and heat. So the city of yonkers condemned the building. All residents had to leave with a few possessions into the cold with two hours notice. When I spoke with a city spokesman he told us management was notify in the morning.our building is 27story.calls to management went unanswered. They are the WORST. read more

To any potential renters reading this... DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT lease an apartment managed by this horrible and incompetent company. We were the first tenants to move into a BRAND NEW building in winter of 2017. The apartment has had so many issues, major and minor, and no one ever resolves them.... they just keep getting worse. Not only are the issues matters of total inconvenience, but they are fire and electrical hazards. It started with handles falling off of every cupboard and drawer in the apartment. Cheap AF fixtures and appliances. Not that big of a deal, but pretty annoying when you're still paying a gargantuan sum of money to rent an apartment in a brand new building and its in the hood (Avenue of Puerto Rico... by the JMZ). Shortly after the handles started falling off, our bedroom closet sprung a leak. This was about two weeks into our new lease, right after we moved in. They did nothing to repair it and there is a big, ugly patch of dry wall missing from the ceiling closet. We didn't pursue it because it is hidden and the closet hasn't leaked since... until today :D. Cheers :D About 7 months into our lease, we noticed our living room circuit would break if we were watching TV and someone ran the hot water. Hmmm... circuits tripping when water is being run... doesn't sound at all safe does it? We called management right away and they said they would send someone over to repair the circuit breaker and take a look. They never did. And every time they call to schedule someone to come over, they call me while I am at work and want to send someone while I am AT WORK. Because this stopped happening, we also didn't continue to pursue it. We both work full time and have busy lives and shouldn't have to chase building management to get issues resolved. They should be responsive and address it immediately since their a***s will be in major trouble if their faulty electrical work ever causes a fire. The real sh*t storm came a year into our lease. This January, on one of the coldest days of the year, a pipe in the basement burst. The entire basement was flooded with about 6 inches of water, and we had to call the fire department as the first responders when we discovered it as we were taking the garbage downstairs. The elevator was flooded in this processes, and has been out of service for 2 whole months. We have been walking up and down 70 stairs for the LAST TWO MONTHS, despite calls and emails to management every week, nothing has been resolved, although they have lied and said every week, that it is getting fixed that week. At least my legs and butt look amazing at this point. I'm not sure how we would even move out at this point, if we wanted to, since we can't possibly carry furniture down five flights of stairs. Today our living room ceiling light sprung a leak. I feel very safe, as I sit here writing this. The fire department came and obviously there was nothing they could do. Building super came, and clearly there was nothing he could do either. The cheapskates running this establishment, better fork over the money to repair the roof of this BRAND NEW BUILDING, before there is a fire and we all die and they sued, or before, every last tenant moves out... They Never have any information, they hide behind each other (especially when you catch them in a lie), and were even reluctant to volunteer the building Super's cell number!!! The flunkie receptionist said, "I don't have that complete information". After her 3rd attempt to transfer me to some other imbecile, he thought I was another tenant, at a completely different address (not to mention, he sounded like he was high!!!). Then, his exact words, "He not gonna do nuthin' unless I tell him". His genius response to my question of, "what's the Super's contact number?" This is by far the worst management company I have ever had the displeasure of working with. Josh Koppel ("President") is unprofessional and lacks proper communication skills. So if that's the tone he sets at the top, then one can assume the entire disorganized organization operates in the same way. The listings that they source provide apartment details/requirements, but when it comes down to talking lease terms, suddenly the details change. Ugh, just, no. Responses to emails are untimely and EVERY time I call, I am put on hold forever. And when someone finally comes back to me, they tell me to hold on again. Then, when someone finally tries to "help" me, I am left with "Sorry, I can't help you with that, you have to call so-in-so in __ department." Then, when I call that department, I get no response. I used to get monthly paper statements in the mail for my maintenance bill. Then they suddenly stopped coming, without reason. read more

Where do I even begin? When they took over, they fired the sweet, helpful old super for calling ConEd directly - instead of them - when he smelled a gas leak. As a result, it was fixed immediately. How dare he be responsible and try to save lives! They missed a golden opportunity to cover up and/or ignore the potentially fatal incident entirely. Then they fired the next super, also a very nice, helpful guy, for dealing with tenants directly instead of through management. God forbid our live-in super talks to us and is available when we need him! They take their sweet time responding to questions and concerns. Nothing is ever treated with the respect or urgency it deserves. No heat? No hot water? They'll get around to it eventually. Emergency is just not in their vocabulary. Recently, the front door lock malfunctioned and tenants were locked out of their homes! Literally unable to get into their own apartment building and they waited two days to fix it and did not communicate with anyone about the status of the repair. Also, the exterminator comes once a month on a Saturday. This past Saturday, I buzzed him in and waited for him to arrive at my door and he never came. He went to one maybe two apartments and left - likely because HSC pays him so little to cover all their properties in one day every month. I let them know right away that he never came to my and neighboring apartments, and that we wanted to reschedule as we've been having a small roach problem in the kitchen. They didn't respond for several days so I had to call back multiple times until I finally was connected to a very rude woman who informed me that if I needed service more than once a month, I would have to pay for it. They don't follow up with the exterminator and didn't admit that this was their fault and just said we would have to wait for the next monthly visit. Completely unethical and illegal - they delay help to cut their own costs while shifting both the expense and their legal responsibility onto the tenants. read more

The business of serving as a building's managing agent is a challenging one. The margins are small and the work consists almost entirely of dealing with irate people! HSC has managed my building for the last half decade and I have found Josh Koppel to be responsive, helpful, and knowledgeable. He sends me emails on weekends! He has been proactive for the building with extermination, bedbugs, ADA access, and other important issues; he knows the innumerable laws and codes that restrict the "here, let me solve that in a heartbeat" strategy that most tenants and shareholders assume is possible. No one can do this work at a level that satisfies the average NYC consumer. These guys do a good job of it. read more

I honestly would give this company no stars if it were an option. They are managing the building in which I live, that is completely roach infested. No one has done anything to help me besides the super. Josh Koppel, the president, is extremely short in emails and unprofessional. This company is so awful, I had to write a second negative review. Now, almost a year later from exited our contract with HSC; the board has had to deal with a multitude of obstacles. HSC closed the properties ConEd account, so as to make it costly and somewhat difficult to re-connect. They mismanaged our funds. My experience with HSC Management has been a complete nightmare. They took over from a previous property manager. The service to the shareholders in my building has been on a steady decline ever since. Under the watch of HSC management, damage has been done to my property twice and they have done very little to resolve the issue. On both occasions water damaged caused a huge hole in my celling. On both occasions they have avoided accepting responsibility for the damage. Instead they blame other residents. This creates an environment of animosity among residents because HSC management is pitting people against each other. It also creates a sense of irresponsibility in the building since their is no support from management when damage is done. The service is so bad that I'm trying to convince the board to get a new property manager. I'm also seeking legal recourse for the damage done to my unit. The only reason HSC is getting a star here is because there is no option to give them a zero. Horrible management company. Please avoid them if you can. read more

Absolutely the worst property management company ever! Stay away! They hire young, inexperienced individuals to manage buildings and treat workers unfairly and discrimitorily. They do anything in their power to get unionized buildings out of the union to cut costs and to seem as if they are doing the building a favor by saving money. They have put together false accusations on employees, forced them to work in unhealthy work environments, and failed to replace personnel who resigned or went on leave. There have been instances of unionized employees who have gotten medically ill due to the way this management company treated them. Stay away from this company unless you want to deal with a culmination of legal issues resulting from their poor management tactics. read more

I want to start off by saying anyone interested in renting or buying an apartment with this company I urge you not to waste your time. I would like to save anyone from the horrible experience I had with the company and it's staff. I was a tenant at one of the properties managed by them for two years and once my lease was up I ran like the wind. The staff is very unpleasant everyone is rude starting with the operator to the assistants and managing agents. Even for the simplest question you get the run around or a voicemail and when you do have the pleasure of speaking with someone they speak to you as if you have no right to bother them with your questions or repairs. The president is very unprofessional and his assistant is even worse extremely rude at all times. I had my ceiling almost falling on me for an entire year someone came to inspect and nothing was done and forget about trying to call and follow up. All in all this is just an awful company and I want to save anyone from the ordeal of dealing with them. read more
