Here everything's better! This is a smaller HEB that's been remodeled in recent history to give the store a more free flow. It's got a kinda mediocre produce section, but the selections all look good and fresh. Don't count on finding more exotic stuff. My favorite thing about this HEB is the outdoor selection situated under the two gigantic columns out in front. There's always a bunch of locally grown stuff that'll be sure to thrive in your backyard. The live flower shop is such a nice place to walk into as soon as you enter. It's so nice that they put that up front, so you can smell the Texas grown yellow roses, or the homecoming mums. Parking is a bit of a challenge. This whole center is on I-10 and DeZavala with hard corners with signalization. There's a whole lot of ways to get in and out of this shopping center, but with all the other auxiliary tenants, it's a bit frustrating to get in and out of this store. This seems to be one of the older, more run down H-E-B locations I've ever been to. Seemed a bit dirty and in need of an update. We stopped in to grab a few things while on a weekend trip to San Antonio. We were able to find most of the items we needed. The prices here for some products seemed a bit higher than our local store in Houston. For instance, their H-E-B Bakery Scratch-Made White Bolillo Rolls were like .54 each here as opposed to 3/$1 back home. Kids were a bit disappointed in the "toy aisle" here. Definitely not as extensive as what we were used to. At the self checkout, we needed assistance for the said, bolillo rolls as they did not have a button for them. Weird. Some other kind of roll came up and since it was the only option, I clicked it and it was nearly $1 per roll... clearly not the right one. A worker came over and corrected it. read more

This is a fine HEB, though it's hamstrung by it's small footprint and location. (It could really be an excellent HEB Plus, but they need more real estate!) Inside, the selections are fine, kudos especially to the produce and meat departments for running a tight ship. I've found the frozen and canned goods to be a little spotty when it comes to restocking, but YMMV. The big issue here is parking - there is enough, but the entrance/exits are all crowded choke points and you should expect to walk a bit to get to the store. Part of the issue is the way the lights / roads run: if you're trying to go South or West out of this store, you're SOL unless you're very lucky in being able to make a left turn! Still, this is a perfectly fine HEB, if you need something it's probably here. read more

I spend, on average approximately $250+, per week. I have always been treated with respect until today. There are some benches located at the side of the store by the garden area parallel to Zavala Rd. I needed to dit take a break not feeling to well, before sitting on the other bench I asked Patty, an HEB employee if it would be OK. To which she replied "yes". Then after a minute or two a security guard comes up on a 3 wheel thing. What are you doing? I said taking a rest a break, he said you have to leave in a very rude way. I thought to myself well the other employee Patty is on the other bench but says nothing as to telling me I could sit there and take a breather. I wear a body cam so there is no ifs ands or buts as to what happened. My wife is out of town so I have walk and must take periodic rests due to age and health. Very disappointed in HEB, and their choice of such an employee, lacking even the most basic of manners. ​ read more

It's H‑E‑B ok? To me, this place is leaps and bounds from a very "popular" grocery store in another state, and any other grocery store for that matter! Staff is always helpful, they sell things that you might have to go elsewhere for in other states. H‑E‑B is truly a one stop shop. The items you can find here you might not find in other grocery stores, and if they don't have it, they'll order it for you! Their customer service is superb, their prices unmatchable.. This, to me, goes for just about any H‑E‑B I come across and go into... if it's possible to love grocery shopping, H‑E‑B makes that possible lol read more

First a disclaimer: This review is not of the HEB grocery on De Zavala, but rather on Sushiya Sushi at the De Zavala location. In truth, we enjoy shopping at De Zavala, given its convenient location, very friendly staff, and usually of ample stock on hand. We do not use curbside , so we cannot comment about that service. Having said so, we CAN comment about the parking lot: terrible, with minimal spacing between cars and barely wide enough lanes between the parking spaces. (How we wish HEB would follow the parking design at Costco!) But now for Sushiya. Sushiya Shushi is not part of HEB, but is rather a private entity that provides foodstuffs and staff for the sushi enterprise. We have enjoyed sushi at any number of sushi bars across town, some of the more notable being Godai, and actually the best in our experience, Toroko Sushi, given the quality of the sushi and the creativity of their presentation. (See our review of Toroko on the Yelp site.) Sushiya Sushi at HEB offers a variety of sushi rolls, combination of sushi and sashimi, fried rice options, seaweed salad and sashimi dishes proper. The rice and noodles bowls and their pot stickers have been consistently of excellent flavor and quality. But not so much the rolls and particularly the sashimi. Sushi DEMANDS fresh, high quality sushi grade fish. Here is the rub. We had tried the sashimi take out on a previous occasion, and were surprised with the fishy flavor of the offering. But we considered this a one off experience, and so we tried the sashimi yesterday. Alas, the sashimi AND the DFW roll were of fishy, old and almost rancid tuna and salmon. If one is a newby to sushi, perhaps this could be overlooked. But given any experience with this delicacy, the sell of rancid fish is truly criminal. We are not sure that this two time experience is unique to the De Zavala location, but in truth, we have NO confidence in the quality of offerings from Sushiya Sushi. It's H‑E‑B ... what can you really say ? Customer service is ok. I've only had two bad interactions at the location. (I think the cashier was having a bad day that day) The other day I was waiting to order my son his bday cake & the young lady was assisting someone so she asked me to wait, which was fine. The wait was only about 10/15 min it's a cake I expected to wait. The only thing I didn't like was while I'm standing there a gentleman walked up & another bakery person asked if he needed help. I let her know I had been standing there for a while. She took care of the gentleman & then asked if I needed help. I told her no I'll continue to wait. Then her and two other bakery women begin to laugh. Which is a no never mind. Chris is seafood was ALWAYS awesome! He may have transferred to another location. Food is usually in stock, prices are the their prices. They're pretty good with getting the lines down when the store is packed. Other than that it's all good ! read more

If you have ever tasted HEB Barbacoa, you know that it's very tasty. If you have bought various premade meals or desserts you know that it's either a hit or a miss. For example donuts and cinnamon rolls are absolute garbage at HEB. I swear I will take things back & share feedback however not worth my time. The barbacoa is good & I like the fact that the store is clean & barbacoa is clean. What I don't like is that the time the barbacoa is out never consistent. The following scenario happened to me 3x. Three different attempts. I walk in usually about 715 am. Ask what time will the barbacoa be out. Woman will say 15 minutes. 20 minutes go by, I'm asking another employee what time is the barbacoa going to be ready. Response, 15 minutes. Lol 15 minutes more. As recent as today went at 7:40am. Barbacoa not ready. What is the expected serve time for barbacoa? HEB deli runs on island time, when ever they feel ready to get it together to have barbacoa ready. Don't you think for a minute these employees follow a schedule. If you are on a tight schedule don't bother coming here and expect barbacoa to be ready Shop here for convenience, not my preference. read more

I placed an order for delivery of 6 items. All showed as in stock. I tipped the driver 10.00 on my 60.00 order. I had to leave the office early so I asked one of the guys here to have my order left in my office. I came in this AM to three 6 packs of bottled soda having been substituted for one 12 pack of cans. Since the 3 six packs were to go to three different people, I have a bit of a problem now. I just reviewed the website and realized that the default setting for orders is to allow HEB to substitute a similar product. This, IMO, is not an entirely honest way to do business. Any sort of substitution should be actively allowed by the customer. To make matters worse, I actually paid more for the delivery of the items than it would have cost me to go to the store and get them- especially when you factor in the tip to the driver. Now I have to just make the trip to the store I should have made in the first place. At least now I can spend my money with a place other than HEB. read more

When you order cut up fruit you are given something that expires that day or the day after. I will be switching to Walmart or Target. For a very small HEB that absolutely needs to be a plus because of it's location, it's not too shabby. It has everything you need. It has all the new products. Staff is always friendly and helpful. The biggest negatives are the size and really the baggers as a former Central Checkout Specialist EVERY-TIME I just tell them I'll do it because they make me so frustrated, but hey there kids working and making money so I respect it. Other than that it's a completely fine HEB that we keep going back to week after week so it can't be that bad. read more

This location is the worst HEB we've ever shopped at, and it's getting worse. Today they only had 5 out of 11 items on our shopping list. A visit a few days ago was even worse. Couple of days ago their produce department had only poor quality bananas and only small russet potatoes. We wanted larger potatoes for baking. They had none. And if you want brand name items, you'll be pretty much out of luck, including basic goods. They've constantly removed more and more brand names from their inventory and replaced them with HEB's own brands--most of which we've found to be of significantly lower quality. When we are forced to purchase their own branded items, more often than not, we return HEB brand items the next trip for refund due to quality issues. The real reason we still shop there at all is for their meat department, although we've had issues with it too. In a recent curbside pickup visit we found that the boneless chicken breasts actually were NOT boneless. Returned them for refund. Curbside orders often have missing items or unauthorized substitutes or just incorrect items that we don't discover until unpacking bags at home. Discussed these issues today with the on duty Manager who acknowledged these issues, mostly blaming their warehouse. He had no answer for other issues. He also confirmed quality issues with their own-branded goods saying it's a hit-or-miss situation. He was apologetic when we mentioned the frustration, waste of precious time and cost of gas to make multiple trips to attempt to fulfill our list of needed basic items and trips to get refunds for poor quality items. Will be shopping more at Wally World in the future since that's where we are forced to shop at for our preferred quality brands. I blame a lack of competition for a lot of these problems AND HIGH PRICES (price gouging, AKA "GREEDFLATION"). Monopolies put customers at these large chains' mercy. We've got to eat.... read more

Standard as far as HEBs go, and up the street from where I work, so I can easily swing by to pick up something if need be, but I rarely come out this far. The selection is pretty good as far as HEBs go, I mean, HEB in general has everything I need bar the super weird/fancy stuff, but that's what Central Market and Alon Market are for, right? It does a decent job of being someone's home store/regular HEB. It's just not mine. Also anything off De Zavala is a nightmare. That street has some of the worst traffic I've ever seen, speaking as someone who works off Huebner and used to live off Bandera. read more

Would avoid if possible. We generally will shop at either the NW Military or Wurzbach location. Was on our way back from an errand and needed some last minute items. The store was pretty slow for a 4th of July, and the patrons were well mannered. The associates were another matter. As I went to check out, an associate ran smack into me. He came into the row as I was near the end - looked at me, and proceeded to continue to walk - right into me. At the check out lane - a young lady who worked for the store verbally accosted me. I brought both incidents up to the floor manager, who appeared to be doing all he could to not laugh. I'm a Texas native, but would recommend the WalMart around the corner as it has much higher service standards. Wow read more

This is an older albeit smaller HEB but their selection is superb! Lot's of organic and natural/non-processed options are available. Check out their aisle full of nuts - raw, roasted, salted, etc, anything you can imagine is available there. They even have machines that grind up dry roasted peanuts or almonds and turn them into peanut butter - it is cheaper and healthier than a jar of low fat Jiff - I have compared them! read more

This isn't my normal HEB, but I had a prescription for my pet that this particular HEB carries, so I had to drive out. The clerk in the pharmacy was not initially very friendly, but when we got to talking, she seemed very helpful. There was not any savings to purchase the medication from HEB like I had hoped, so I didn't end up buying them. As a matter of fact, I think it was slightly more expensive. I like HEBs in general and this ones ok inside. I just dont like the parking lot much it's just weird and looks like there is plenty but there isnt really many good spots close to the doors and the lot is rough. The other weird thing is the millions of loud birds at night, It almost smacks of a horror movie or the Twilight Zone. You nearly want to duck and run for cover like they might attack at any moment. And God forbid you make the crows angry they may very well attack you. They tend to remember people who they dont like and will be aggressive toward them, so being nice! I buy HEB brand coconut milk yogurt every week. I usually buy 2 4-packs of the strawberry flavor. Today was the second time I found mold growing inside them; weeks before their exportation date. I'm not paying for expensive yogurt for it be moldy and gross. Do better H-E-B. I wish I could get my money back. read more

Why you put ice cream and other frozen foods in the farthest possible spot from the checkout lanes, I will never understand, yet like some other HEBs, you can find that layout here. I know that's more of an annoyance than an issue, and despite other little frustrations like a nonsensical parking lot, you've got yourself a nice little HEB here, but... The person supervising checkers must have very low standards. When I go in after work, I am forced to endure checkers distracted by their phone, casually joking with other employees, and, believe or not, actually pausing to nibble on a snack while handling the food items I'm trying to purchase. I love the high quality service at every HEB I've ever visited, but this particular HEB has me confused, I'm not used to this. read more

Thank you to everyone at my local H-E-B on DeZavala. I ventured out to get some fresh produce, not knowing what I would find. I was surprisingly pleased. From the moment I parked I noticed staff wiping down every cart. We had to line up and they brought cleaned carts to us as a way to encourage social distancing! They were letting people in in groups of 20-40, and I only had to wait about 7 minutes. Inside, everywhere you looked employees were wiping down everything--baskets, shelves, frozen food doors inside and out, checkout keypads, counters--literally everything! The store was well stocked on most items. Sorry, no chicken breasts, or diet sodas, but plenty of other chicken items and regular sodas. Bottom line, they are doing their part to make sure everyone is safe, healthy, and able to eat! THANK YOU!!! read more

I do not like HEB. Unfortunately it's the only grocery store left in San Antonio because it's a monopoly. They kicked everyone else out. I miss my Albertsons. They carry a million of their own products. Whether it be Central Market, Hill Country, HEB brand and it's hard to find other name brands. I feel like we don't really have a choice when we come to HEB. Shouldn't we have more of a choice as a consumer? Especially after you kicked out all the competition? I'm always looking for products at HEB that were available one week and no longer available the next. Yes yes I heard you can go to the front and fill out a request for an item but who has time for that? Grocery store trips are never fun especially at HEB where it is always crowded, so why would I want to spend a second longer there? I've lived in San Antonio pretty much my whole life and I've never liked HEB. They used to drive me nuts because they were constantly changing up the isles. Made it really difficult to get in and get out. Yes, that's a great sales tactic on their part but a real pain in the butt on my part. Sometimes to avoid the crowds at HEB I'll go spend a little more money and shop at Target. I just say if you're going to kick out every other grocery store in San Antonio then up your game and give your customers a choice of product. I always see new products in magazines but HEB doesn't carry them just their version of it. Not fair. And seriously why don't you carry sargento cheese? Picked up curbside and took a little while to get my stuff. But I got some turkey deli meat and it looked like it was not cooked fully. It had all through the 3/4 of meat that I received had like a bloody huge vein! It was watery big time which made me think it wasn't cooked fully. I sent them a email and pic. That was Monday mid day. I still have not heard back from them. Customer Service is not very good. Very disappointed! Do not buy deli meat from this H‑E‑B! They emailed me once asking which H‑E‑B I shopped at and no one ever got back to me. This was last week. Poor customer service. The worst place to shop. You lost my business! read more

I normally don't go to this HEB but we were in this area to pick up dinner, so we stop by. They had a sign in the front of the store that mask is mandatory in the store. I was able to find all the things I needed easily, even though the layout of each store is different. They still have printed coupons, but you can see everything on the HEB app. At the register, they have sticker label on the floor to ensure social distancing. read more

HEB 21 is a store that has the rudest employees..since the coronavirus..they feel they treat people anyway they want..the woman in the seafood talked to my husband like she doesn't know what customer service..they have been remodeling which makes it worse..even after they go back to their normal hours I will never shop at heb again..they haven't really done anything for seniors..they push their products, no variety..I will shop at Wal-Mart or any store besides # 21 read more

This is the closest H-E-B to me. I love it! Come here twice a week. I was checking out today and cashier behind me told my cashier that her conveyor belt froze and she will be placing her customer items on my cashier's conveyor belt. That's great however since H-E-B stresses how important it is to social distance, I expected the neighboring cashier to walk around to move other customer's groceries. Instead, she tells me she's walking right behind me and our backs touch. I mentioned to her that she's too close to my space and that this is not keeping a distance 6ft apart. The cashier looked at me like I had just insulted her. Sorry but with COVID 19 out there social distancing is a must. Just like customers are expected to abide by these rules so should HEB employees. read more

I absolutely love HEB and it's doing it's absolute best at all times. But please don't buy the on-the-go size HEB brand orange juice. It is very bad. Meaning it does not taste orange-y at all. I'm sorry, I was so trying to find the best of it, but it doesn't even taste good. :( I am not saying this to hurt HEB's business. This past week with the cold in San Antonio was something that I've never thought I'd experience in South Texas. I moved here last July from Maryland. HEB has been a wonderful store and I actually enjoy grocery shopping now. I went to HEB Sunday the 23rd to finally get some provisions after being stuck at home all week. Although many items were depleted, i got the basics. And to meet the demand of all the shoppers that early morning, HEB had every checkout counter staffed. You guys ROCK! I also volunteer at a food bank where so much is donated by HEB. Again, you all are tremendous! Keep doing what you're doing. You're a life saver for Texas! read more

HEB is hands down my favorite grocery store!! This is my favorite HEB in my area. It's never too crowded (unless it is Thanksgiving or the Super Bowl). They carry a good variety of options at a variety of price points that will fit your budget. I love that I can rely on the store brand product to be at a fair price without compromising taste. Okay HEB, customer service needs to drastically improve. Not all employees are familiar with the HEB go process or their process is not consistent. Having employees unfamiliar with customers coming to registers to scan with their phone and telling them they should go to other registers is unprofessional. In the past I was not asked for my receipt as soon as I approached the registers area and I was allowed to scan all my items using the app. All employees should be trained in the HEB go checkout process and make sure it is consistent. Employees need to be courteous and ask if I have a question or need help before requesting things. When employees consult with management to address an issue, the manager needs to try to understand both sides of the situation prior to being confrontational with the customer. read more

I never write reviews but i just want to make buyers aware of how constantly this HEB miss items in their curbside service... not only they're incompetent but they have the nerve to be rude. I just pick up my curbside service this morning, only ordered few items and they missed 9 of them, a total of $30.54 in value. When I called customer service (very rude lady)... I only got back about $20 as a refund because she claims they charge 3 percent for ordering online... the problem is that they're the ones that did not include it in my order... the sad thing is that she claims to be corporate, how sad to have people like this representing a company... and the bad part is that almost in every order I experince the same where items are missing, not this bad but is constantly... anyway, just be aware of Curbside.... read more

The butchers here have no idea what they are doing. Almost all packages of meat come with each piece cut to different thicknesses, steaks are often cut lopsided, the have no idea how to properly trim larger cuts. I won't mind the fact that HEB ran their competition out of San Antonio if they meat products were worth a damn. Also going there at 6am when they open, after 5 hours of being closed, I often wonder why the hell theres still stockers putting products out. It makes you wonder why they even bother closing for 5 hours. Shows that management has no idea what they are doing. Went yesterday afternoon for a quick grocery trip. Decided to pick up some "fresh" tortillas for dinner and by the time I got around to making dinner (5 hours later) there was MOLD growing on tortillas from both bags. Also, I pointed out to our cashier that the bag of dogfood my son had selected was torn at the top of the bag. She didn't even offer to grab a new bag for me or allow me a chance to get an unopened bag myself. I wasn't going to complain about this, but since I'm even more upset and already writing a review, I figured I might as well share. Normally this is one of my preferred locations. I have to drive slightly further to this location, but I don't see myself wasting the gas to do so in the future. read more

Today, for the third time I observed the deli team not changing their gloves between customers or even after working on the shelves outside the deli department. I spoke to a manager last week then again on Thursday I spoke with JR and also called to corporate about the cross contamination that is going on. I was assured with JR that the staff was "coached". Well, today was still happening. One of the ladies that was "coached" on Thursday was not following health department protocol. Spoke to another person today and was told that he would address it. I asked his name and title which I was not given. Time for a call to the health department. Think it's also time to boycott this location. If one department is doing it then they are all doing it. Perhaps bring this to the media. read more
