My first visit to a H-E-B and selected here to make a special order for my Mother birthday cake. The lady who I ordered the cake with over the phone was nice. I called twice after ordering to verify the bakery hours and kept getting different hours. When I arrived to pick up the cake. I had to wait a while because no one was in the bakery. A gentleman had to page a girl to come to the bakery. Once I was handed off the cake, the icing in the middle was cracked before I could leave the store. I never received a birthday cake that was cracked. That was unacceptable! The girl had to called her manager from her cell phone. The manager asked the price of the cake and for a picture. She offered only $3 off. We wanted to take nice pictures of the cake but couldn't because we were handed a cake that was messed up. Why would they hand it off to a customer if the cake is not right. The girl manager end up telling her to fix the cake instead of giving the discount. The girl nicely fixed the cake. I asked her for a cake cutter and she didn't know what I was talking about. I had nothing to cut the cake. I am used to the service I received at Publix grocery stores. A cake that is cracked at Publix would've been free. They also give customers a cake cutter with every cake. read more

I give this H-E-B 5 stars. Despite some attempts of gentrification in the neighborhood this H-E-B keeps it real. You get a true feeling of the community and they are often really busy but have plenty of registers open but it still gets a lil busy. The food choices aren't to fancy as you won't find exotic dragon fruit or Meyer's cleansers but they serve the community well and people are nice. Watch out with parking because that can be a bit of a pain. If you want something for your basic needs food or miscellaneous wise, as they do have paper products to car oil and cooking oil check them out. They keep it real here. First time using this HEB after being a long time customer at HEB Dezavala and apparently they like to make up their own rules here. I had excess medication for one of my prescriptions that would last me until my next doctor's visit and had explicitly declined a refill. The technician who took my drop off didn't have a problem, the pharmacy at Dezavla never had a problem, but the pharmacist at this location did have a problem. She made me buy the medication. I asked if they could assist to dispose of the medication and she said "no." I once saw a man climb up the side of a freezer and jump over into an adjacent isle. Mask stayed in his face the whole time. So the place is a little sketchy, who cares? I have this weird obsession with grocery stores, or simply, stores that sell food and liquor in the same place! I was shocked when I walked into this place. It was huge, at first I was turned off by the whole warehouse feel you get walking into the place, but after looking around, I loved it. The fact that you can buy liquor, beer, cheese, fruit, and dishware in the same place, is what does it for me, I think. I'm from Minnesota, so grocery stores are not allowed to sell both alcohol and food in the same place, unless the beer is 3-2. HEB actually had a big selection of beer too. Not to mention, this is where we bought Shiner bock. It was my first time every drinking that beer, and nowadays, I would consider it to be one of my favorites! I was impressed by the amount of produce too. It just says somethings bout a grocery store, when their produce section impresses people! Grocery prices are a lot cheaper than they are in Minnesota. I would guess that it is because of living expenses, and import prices, or whatever. I don't know, but I wish I could do all my grocery shopping here! read more

I would give half a star if I could, I'm visiting from Houston and needed to get white wine to present to my Korean grandmothers grave. Obviously I'm not from here or the area so my GPS took my husband and I to this one. I should have turned around once seeing just the parking lot. I go in and go straight to the wine section, grab my bottle, and go to the front to check out. There's nothing but homeless people at this store, I wish I was joking. The man in front of the check out line was having issues with payment, and also had a box of cigarettes. I don't know if she just didn't want to deal, but after the second time the card was declined, she just dismissed the man and let him go for FREE. Food is absolutely understandable, but cigarettes??? We get up and she asks us whoever is buying to show ID. My husband (26) pulls out his and she says she can't accept it because it's expired. That's okay, no big deal totally understand. So I pull out mine that's valid (25, Birthday was yesterday) and she looks at it and tells me that it doesn't look like me (my hair was purple and I had more weight in my face, this was three years ago) I tell her that it is me; obviously and she asks if I have another valid form of photo ID, which I didn't cause I had my fucking license, the only thing I have is selfies from my phone and my debit card with my name on it. She tells me that she doesn't believe it's me and has the right to refuse the sale, so I leave extremely pissed. It's MY ID and I'm 25! So I went to the liquor store from across the cemetery, ask the guy there if my ID looks like me, he tells me yes and just by looking at it he knew it was real and not a fake. He showed how to tell the difference between a fake and a real one. Something I would think a MANAGER working within a store that sells alcohol would be aware of. He also called her a fucking dumbass, which definitely made me feel better. I have never been so angry or disappointed in customer service at a store. She was a heavier woman who was wearing a black top while everyone else was in red. She's trash and this store is trash. Avoid it at all costs. read more

Terrible. There is a difference between "poor" & "ghetto", & this is definitely ghetto. Even the floor is just covered in holes and huge stains. People are rude and trashy, and product selection is poor. They never have any of the brands we're looking for. There are always 5-10 people just loitering around outside, and we've been approached multiple times by people asking for money. Thankfully we only have to come here every once in a while when we visit my in laws; we will stick to our Northside stores thankyouverymuch. read more

This HEB is a PO* and I think it's about time for a remodel. I've seen the other HEB's around San Antonio especially the ones near 1604 and this one on New Braunfels st is without a doubt the worst on in San Antonio. It's not like you guys don't have the money, my wife and I are buying an expensive home in Dignowity Hill and unfortunately have to drive to Basse or another location because you won't supply this store with a quarter of the items of the other stores I say it's BS and that H-E-B does this because it doesn't care about poorer neighborhoods. It is a tiny Heb. It does not have all the stock that other HEB's have, but it is on a bus route. I kind of have to question a store that hires SAPD (off duty officers who are just looking to make an extra buck) as security, but then again.... It is a good store in a pinch, but for your heavy duty shopping, go to another location. The lot it self is on an incline so if you are not careful with your cart it will travel with out you. Please be very careful when walking thru the lot as drivers don't pay attention to where they are going. I wear a neon green windbreaker and drivers still tell me Uh, we did not see you. I am sorry to talk about this heb I am new to san antonio this.was the worst store not requiring the people to cover up i witnessed people walking in the Isles eating food and nlt purchasing it. The store seemed clean but did nothing to tell shoppers about the face mask wearing I saw people asking for change and people inside this store was crowed I bought myself some salad from their and ground beef the meat was expired and my husband went back to return the meat a lady had told him no cause he had opened the meat how else are you suppose to know if it was good the sale we bought was already expired the one thing noted in this store was the digo system was not used and it was poor lack of maintaining rules to keep other people safe in this store is just not in place only reason I have not gotten the health department invoked is that I hope they see this and understand that these conditions should not be taken likely when peoples lives are invoked at stake so please clean up your act at this heb and start to really pay attention to details and let your customers know it's not safe what they can get away with can cause you to lose your life being careless at this location .please get your store up to code like the other heb i have been to here in San Antonio. read more

I'm sorry but this was a sad attempt at an HEB. They are usually clean, spacious and have great selections of everything. This was the exact opposite of that.
