Everything's bigger in Texas! Especially the grocery stores. This is a large place. They've got aisles and aisles of stuff. Be sure to check out the Hill Country Fair products- they're good! I always like checking out HEBs, especially the Plus. The "Plus" just means it's bigger and usually has an electronics section. I came in here to check things out. They had some great Hatch green chile pepper cookies on clearance, which was a score! I was also pleased to see that this location offers the Mexican cucumber & lime & tajin salads, but whoever slices those cucumbers needs to be taught how to work the slicer setting. Is it just me, or are the prices a little higher here than at competing stores? This store has some nice features to it. It's in a good looking shopping center, and has some cool looking Pueblan pottery Talavera tiles on the exterior that are reminiscent of the San Antonio quadrafoil symbol. There's a gas station out in the parking lot as well! Woo! Be careful of the shopping carts- they seem to have some sort of device on them to keep people from swiping them that make them a little harder to use. read more

Friendly tasting cart staff on the weekend! The meat department butchers also know their stuff when it comes to picking something out for a meal. I think they were surprised I asked since most people probably already know what they want. Good bakery and cake selection to, and they've been starting to carry more organic produce and fresh items. HEB just has the best prices on everything! And HEB brand products are as good as the best, made with the best ingredients. Not at the height of my favorite HEBs because of restroom and eating area cleanliness, but it is my local store. I bought some pork carnitas that said use or freeze by mar 22. When I opened the vacuum packed it smelled foul. I took it back and I asked one of the managers what I needed to do she said for me to go exchange it and a I could go through any checkout lane. When I went to exchange it another manager told me I would not be able to exchange it without a receipt. He said I would have to come back tomorrow because he was not able to approve my 5.35 exchange. The heb on Goliad exchanged it without hesitation. The heb on new s Braunfels has left me to believe the customer service is as foul as the smell on the pork carnitas I attempted to exchange. read more

I've never been to a store that hate the disabled individuals. My father in-law that requires help shopping after having a stroke last year. We were greeted by one Jeff Zaldez. He was rude and demeaning to my father in-law. I then asked to speak to Management. Management told he it's b/c of the Covid-19. Well I'm sorry Covid-19 is no excuse to demean and discriminate against our elderly and disabled. The stores Jeff Valdez should not be allowed in public view. He will probably get the store sued for discrimination against the elderly and disabled. You can't fix in-bread and stupid. read more

The most ghetto HEB in San Antonio! Rude Unhelpful staff. No parking ever. I never use to go here and it was near my home at the time. I would shop at Lincoln heights just to avoid this TRASHY HEB. Unfortunately my new business does buy stuff from HEB REGULARLY and every time I have had to go it was a horrible experience. Will never go back to that location again. Not worth it. The trouble with living downtown is you have to hop on the highway to find a decent grocery store to shop at. So this HEB Plus tends to be the grocery store I visit often. Compared to other HEB stores around town, this location is far from the fanciest and is ALWAYS crowded when I go. It doesn't matter if I go at 7 a.m., 4 p.m. or 11 p.m. on a Friday night, people stay in this HEB like it's a club or something. That being said, it serves the purpose well. The fruit/veggie section is plentiful, the frozen meals I love are always stocked and they have a good selection of meats. I'm not too impressed with the bakery or deli, but I can find what I want at least 60% of the time. Meh. read more

I like shopping at this HEB. The only thing that irritates me is the self checkout near the produce entrance. Why have a self checkout when every time you turn around you can't even scan anything and the machine gets hanged up then the associate have to come unhang it. I mean it really don't make any sense. I know they're trying to be like Walmart but they can't. Walmart got it going on! I have no problems whatsoever with the self checkouts and that's no matter which Walmart I go to. I go to HEB mostly for the meats because the meats are fresher and they have a huge selections of them. If/when HEB management cure that problem with the self checkout machines, then and only then will they get a five star from me. Other than that, HEB is ok. read more

This is the most poorly managed H-E-B I have ever been to. It is conveniently located but it is worth the effort and gas to go elsewhere. The other night I went on my way home and the store as per usual doesn't have enough lanes open, so ALL the lines are super long, so I stand at the back of the "Express 15 items or less" line. After about ten minutes the two customers in front of me get frustrated and leave, so I move up behind a lady that has a basket absolutely full of items. When she gets to the register they don't say anything to her. So fifteen minutes later, the cashier is pointedly taking her time and I tell her it is supposed to be an express line, so PLEASE hurry up. She keeps talking to the lady and begins to passive-aggressively slowly, purposely slowly, packing the ladies bags. When she is finally done she looks at me with disdain and slowly proceeds to says she was busy. I told her that the express light was on and it wasn't fair to let that lady in the line. The porcine cashier snottily replies by asking if I wanted to talk to her manager. I told her "No, I want you to learn to count to fifteen, and I just wanted to get out of the store ASAP since she wasted so much of my time. She then turned off the "Express lane" light and ran off while saying the Spanish slang for "White-boy" as she left. Her tacky equally incompetent and rude manager came over and said I threatened the cashier and the cashier was scared. I told her that the whole store would have known if I threatened her, and I just came to the store for milk, not to be mistreated, accused and harassed! I told the manager she should learn how to treat customers with respect, not accusations, and that I just wanted out of this horrible store. It's bad enough that the employees and management are rude and incompetent, which is not the norm for H-E-B, but when you add racism to the mix this store is just unbearable. This is just one of a number of negative experiences that has happened at this poorly managed, rude store. read more

I'm highly upset about the experience I had at the McCreless Market H‑E‑B on South New Braunfels just a couple of hours ago. I walk into the store to purchase a vegetable tray for our luncheon at work tomorrow. As I was waiting in the checkout lane, I thought about purchasing air fresheners for my classroom and decided to go for them after buying my items. (There were only three lanes open and more than six or seven customers at each lane.) I pay and proceed to the aisles to get the air fresheners. I stop myself on my way since it was getting late and decide to buy them the following morning in hopes of there being fewer people at the checkout lanes or more cashiers. I head towards the exit and a loss prevention associate, AJ, approaches me and asks to see my receipt. I show him my receipt and as I'm walking out, I look back curiously to see if he's checking other receipts. He's not. I walk back into HEB to find out why he did this--because in essence, the underlying assumption is that I'm stealing. He tells me that they're required to check receipts when a customer does not exit directly from the checkout lanes. I compare my experience to other HEB locations in San Antonio and suggest that it's not right to single out individuals who they believe could be stealing, unless they're caught in the act. He calls for Bea, the "acting GM," upon my request and tells me that she will reiterate what he said and back him up. After talking with her about their protocol, which she is unclear, and explaining to her that the message she's sending to customers is one of distrust between the business and consumer, she calls for security to escort me out of the store all while AJ is smirking. Security arrives and doesn't see the need to escort me off the premises, so I continue speaking with Bea about their protocol. She tells me she will have Paul, the GM, contact me. I walk out of the store and I hear her say loudly, "Oh my God!" Should you visit, expect to experience one of the three: 1) Backed up checkout lanes 2) Inherently classist policies 3) Unskilled employees in professionalism and communication read more

I came here the other day, one of the lanes appeared to have technical difficulties, we waited there for half hour+ when we just had 15 items and we were second in line. None of this bothered me because I try to be reasonable. What bothered me was the attitude that both the cashier and the "manager" displayed through out the entire experience. None of them apologized, none of them explained what was going on. They just stood there dead cold, silent, no smile, and even expected me to bag my own items which could have been reasonable in ANY OTHER situation but when a customer has been waiting there for half an hour the least you can do is apologize, smile and bag their items.
