Ok ... this HEB is not as bad as some of the other reviews make it out to be. Is it a little ghetto? maybe ... but the thing is, it is the only one that is open 24 hours in south Austin. So due to my schedule I frequent this location often. I love that they carry cheap pieces of pork and beef that I can not find at the Brodie HEB or Slaughter HEB. These are some of the best pieces sometimes! This HEB has a lot of options as far as cultural food as well. I will admit on more than one occasion I have seen the police in the parking lot here, but that is mostly due to the fact that it is right on I-35. I feel safe shopping here and I frequent here so often I pretty much feel like I know the overnight staff.

Nice mixed Sixer!

I only give it 2 stars because I have lived in this neighborhood since 2008 and it actually used to be a lot worse. If it wasn't for that I would give it 1 star. Parking is horrible. HEB YOU FORGOT ABOUT THE 78747!!!! I do truly appreciate the improvements made over the years, but I hope for more. Please do not assume because we are working class people that we do not like good ingredients or quality products. You will always be able to sell a million pizza pockets, but some of us have a more developed pallet. I don't know if it is classicism or if the invisible hand of the crappy grocery store market economy (Econ 101 sorry) is working it's magic. Either way, this place has the worst food options in Austin. Unless you are a teenager or college kid who eats frozen food, cheap beer, and crappy wine you will hate this place. Positives: The staff is usually very friendly, their produce and meat market are good as well. I do wish they each had more options, but so be it. Please Please Please bring some real food options to this place. I hate having to drive across town to get quality food and drink.

Not serving me even after I ask for two cups. Thanks for nothing.

WTF...WHAT THE FUN!!! What grocery store's run out of ice. Well, I'll tell you. Two major…read moregrocery store chains and a retailer grocery in downtown Austin had no ice. How is this even possible? Could it be because we were in downtown Austin? One of my friends speculated that it was because they had a University of Texas game yesterday and they needed ice for tailgate parties. Really!? Seriously?' There is no empirical evidence supporting this assertion. If that was case, why could they not know the schedule. Well, I ended up buying ice at a higher price from a gasoline station...don't remember the name. Am I raging about the difficulty of finding ice? Nope! In retrospect, it is rather humorous that so many places were out of ice simultaneously. If all of the ice went to fun pursuits, I'm good with the icecapades (case of the missing ice). Lesson learned: Buy ice in my neighborhood before heading downtown Austin.

Ok so apparently there are two pages for this location. This…read moreone which is from when the old store was still in existence and a new one someone created after the renovation. Apparently, not realizing this page already existed. Anyway, covering all my bases and doing a review here as well. Note: I've also suggested an edit for the duplicate businesses. Ok now that is out of the way. Review time: I really love this location so much. The store is huge with wide aisles making it easy to navigate compared to the smaller stores. Even if it's crazy busy on a Sunday afternoon you can still get to the items you need with ease. The store is still very clean and of course modern since the rebuild. Employees are friendly. The shelves are stocked fully 99.999% of the time. I live extremely close to the East 7th Street store (5 min away) and opt for this location time and time again.

I live nearby and I go here every few days. The place suffers a bit from being downtown (higher…read moreprices and unkempt people outside) but on the whole they do fairly well. Contrary to another review, they usually have fresh fruit on hand; bananas in a basket and prepared fruit cups. They have a fair selection of beer, wine, soft drinks and coffees. They have sandwiches and other prepared food (e.g. giant $4 burritos) in the cooler. One time I had to ask for toilet paper and the guy brought it out from the back room. I suppose it took up too much space on the shelf. This is the alternative to Royal Blue, which has even higher prices, although Royal Blue makes some food in-house. On the whole, I prefer Second Street because Royal Blue has a weird vibe and some weird brands and this place is a regular store.

I frequented this store during my trip to Austin due to its location. It was in close proximity to…read moreboth my hotel and the Austin Convention Center, and without a car sometimes it was just easier to walk down the street instead of Lyft to a store or restaurant. Honestly unremarkable. An independent convenience store that knows it can charge more because of where it is. The staff were friendly enough, but the stock was kind of limited. That might be due to so many people being in town that week but they seemed to run out of drinks fairly quickly. It's also no fault of the store but it's worth mentioning right in front of their doors seems to be a popular hangout for Austin's homeless. I don't think we managed a single visit here without being asked for change. If you need a quick snack they are in a great location, just don't expect an overly pleasant visit.

I found some produce products that were more of a bargain than at the larger supermarket down the street. One thing that I had been waiting for was to try their breakfast tacos which were absolutely divine. There was even a hint of gooieness that you want from a cinnamon roll. For a dollar and some change it's a great size! As I noticed other people gathering around the hot food line, I couldn't help but decide on getting a plate. I picked up the ranchero bisteak and chicken Tinga and for my two sides, I decided on the plantains and nopales. Both of the meats I decided on were extremely delicious in flavor and the beef was exceptionally tender. I got red and green salsa and it appears that the red salsa is a tad bit creamy, which is not something I've had many times before. It was unique and extremely tasty. As for the green salsa, I have yet to try, but I am sure it won't disappoint. I do want to give this place praise because I have passed it up before, but it is not a place to be looked over. There's so many other goodies in here that you won't find at a regular grocery store so it's definitely worth coming inside and checking out especially if you just want something to do. The people were so nice exceptional customer service. There is seating if you want to eat inside and they were playing good music. I almost forgot to mention how exceptional the sides were. Often times people mess up nopales, but these were delicious.
