Amy from this office was great! Due to some family issues I owed money to the IRS instead of getting a tax refund. TurboTax told me I owed $2000! Amy helped me get that number down to about $200 which is much more manageable (and it got accepted by the IRS!) I would 100% come back here. Had a hard time with the guys at HR Blockhead. First, they charged me double what Liberty Tax charges even tho my return was much simpler. Then they wouldn't take my check because the guy said he didn't know what the numbers at the bottom of the check meant. At first I was embarrassed for the guy, but that turned into concern when I realized that this was the same guy who was processing my return. She always did a great job for me , always kept in communication with me , sent my taxes off in a timely manner and I got my refund shortly, I will always use Kay in the furure. read more

If you have to drive farther to avoid this place- do. The front desk lady is awesome, but not enough to make up for the completely sidetracked service and the lack of competency that gets dished out of this place. I went in a month and half before tax-crazy-land, which I can understand is busy, but the when I was helped (by the owner) he asked me the same question MULTIPLE times, fidgeted the entire time, and then FORGOT TO SEND MY RETURN IN! It would be one thing if I had a complicated return that required extra attention and he was losing himself in his work. But my entire return took 7 minutes, 2 of which was spent by the agent repeating his distracted questions. When I called the IRS a month later to find out where my return was- they told me there was no record of anything. When I called the office to find out what happened, the agent wouldn't even take my phone calls and had the front desk woman send a check for just over 20% back. When I told them that was unacceptable as I had already promised the money other places and wanted to see at least half back- they stopped taking my calls. Don't do it. read more

My wife and I had our taxes done by the owner/manager who couldn't help himself but contradict previous advice we received from his employees, and to add insult to injury, did his level best to insult us, and he didn't care if I contacted corporate H&R to lodge a complaint. I found H&R Block very helpful and efficient. I've had my taxes done at this location 3 years in a row. It all seemed just fine. The other day, my previous employer sent an amended W2 and noted that I might have to do a supplemental tax return. I was really worried about it, particularly since I'd already done my tax return and gotten my refund. I contacted H&R Block, got the copy of the W2 over to them, and they reviewed it and within an hour or so they gave me the analysis. I definitely plan to keep using them. read more

I have been utilizing HR Block 10 Tax seasons now. I transferred my account to the West Seattle branch 7 years ago. I have had numerous random assignments to various processors and also 3 years with the owner-since my tax audit. I would say my tax processing is labor intensive given the stock trades, rental properties and small business owner deductions. I have had a very positive experience with the phone receptionist, front desk interaction and overall level of detail given by each processor. I have asked enough questions to my processors to make a police detective blush. It's just in my nature to get what I have rightfully due and even push the boundaries. The biggest thing I can recommend is pay for the audit insurance! My returns were flagged by the IRS one year due to my small business filing. This was understandable given the nature of my business. The owner represented my interest in person and we even came out ahead with a bigger refund!! Personal and Business taxes are complicated and at times can bring out the worst in people. If you're patient and come prepared this should eleviate some of the unecessary trips and guesswork. Overall, the staff here has been attentive, professional and sought advice if a question or topic was over their head. The issue of taxes alone has divided our country so it's no surprise to see folks venting about their negative experience. It just makes me wonder if they made an appointment vs. just dropping in and/or did not like the results of the process-owing money? read more

When we used their service, we had so many questions as we aren't tax professionals. (That's why we are using their service). We had 1 tax form we aren't sure if we need to file or not, so we mentioned that to the accountant and we decided to save it for at the end. At the end of service, some new accountant took over and we pointed out that the form wasn't included yet. She "re-opened" our process, hence, it was an additional $100 just to process the last form we have mentioned earlier! read more

I can't say enough about Joan Calvert. We were very very nervous about going and dreaded the whole appointment, but Joan made us feel right at ease. She worked very hard for us and talked to us in simple terms- she made sure we knew what she was talking about and encouraged us to ask questions. She even came in on her day off and helped us with 3 amended tax returns. We thought we owed $$ but ended up getting a great return. I had heard good things about H&R block from friends so I booked an appointment using their online tool a few weeks in advance. I show up for my appointment and the office is locked, lights out, and no one is answering the phone. Quite disappointing. I left a message and hopefully will hear back from someone. -1 stars if it would be possible. Simply terrible; avoid at all cost. If you need your tax return done, find a monkey with a typewriter. The likelihood of your return being done correctly is higher that way. First off, the good: as already mentioned by others, the person at the front desk answering the phone is super friendly and nice. Now the bad and ugly: while reviewing our last tax return that was prepared by H&R Block we discovered a mistake. Correcting this mistake will provide us with an additional $2,000 from the IRS (not a small matter). We mentioned the mistake to our tax preparer. While we did not receive any sort of apology, we were reminded that we had received a new customer discount of $50 which was considered generous and that we wouldn't receive again. WTF? We got a form to be filed with the IRS to have the mistake corrected. Before we had an opportunity to send that form we discovered another mistake. And, the same mistake was actually made in the prior year's return as well. Another $500 for each year from the IRS. So, we were told not to send the initial form but that we would get a different form which would address all three mistakes. Again, no apology. After four weeks and four calls to the office we still had not received anything in the mail. Every call is being answered with attitude and excuses. When I called again I asked to be connected with the owner, Christopher Price. And, like other reviewers I was subjected to Mr. Price's attitude. No apology, no acknowledgment of mistakes being made, or understand why I might be dissatisfied with the situation. I'm not too knowledgeable about tax filing, but Cheryl Jones came to my rescue today. She was an absolute joy to work with. Cheryl is a managing veteran of this office and she was so, so kind and helpful, she made all this tax stuff simpler and easier for someone like me to understand. I seriously could not believe I actually went through with this place. I've been going here since 2013 to see Alisa who is so awesome / wonderful / patient. However, this was not the case with Cheryl. Mind you, she's the manager. I made this appointment about 3 weeks ago specifically for Alisa. However I received a call the day before notifying me that Alisa wouldn't be in and I would either have to one: do drop off service, two reschedule to work with Alisa, or three keep the appointment and work with Cheryl. Had I known my experience would be how it was I would have either one: did drop off, two: wait for Alisa, or three: save money and buy a turbo tax program. In her defense, I was about 7 minutes late because I ended go turning the wrong way coming from the WS bridge plus all the traffic. I came running in there and saw someone standing at the computer and I said "hello so sorry I'm late. I'm here for Cheryl." Barely even looked at me and barely even said much except that I was seeing her. This is where it really ticked me off - the fact that she acted like she had to ask the question of when it the best time to contact me and I tell her anytime she just chooses afternoon for me anyway. Look, why even bother asking me if you're just going to choose it for me? That's strike one. Then, when she finishes my return and says, "Well it's a good thing you got rid of that condo. But paying off your car this year won't do anything because you don't own anything anymore." Yeah, jokes on you lady because I bought a home again this year. Strike two. Now, for the kicker..she starts on my fiance's return and when she asks for the best time to call and he gives his answer and she once again chooses for us. She looked at his address and says, "Oh it makes sense now. You guys are living in sin. Ha ha ha.." He asked about a letter from the IRS he received and he paid. She answers with, "You didn't declare that you paid your CC off so that is not HR Block's fault that is yours." WOW Strike three. Absolutely disrespectful. Who the heck do you think you are judging me and my fiancé? The fact that I paid you $212 to prepare when I should have just went with TurboTax, that really just threw me over the roof. I am never, repeat NEVER EVER going to HR Block again. You just tainted the whole experience for me now. I hope whomever reads this knows to never ever go to her. The fact that she's in management appalls me - knowing that they would appoint someone who lacks in basic social skills or lacks social awareness makes me think if I can even trust them. I had a somewhat unpleasant situation with an LLC and a corporation, both registered out-of-state and in need of both state and federal prior-year tax returns. Lorene Adachi was amazing in helping me get through this. She was persistent and helped me get to the bottom of what needed to be done, asking the right questions and quickly figuring out what needed to be done for an out-of-state return. I had previously done my taxes online and had no problems, but thought this year I'd try a professional since my husband and I were going to be filing jointly and I had a 1099, so hopefully I could have some deductions. My taxes were prepared by the owner, I had no idea until the very end how much filing with them was going to cost, and it only took him 10 minutes! In the end, I ended up owing approx $500 to the IRS and $195 to H&R Block (I could have just as easily prepared my own return online and saved the $200). $195 to file two W-2's and one 1099...really??! At the end when I got to the front desk and started paying this ridiculous $195 charge, (being 8+ months pregnant and overly emotional) I broke down into tears that I couldn't hold back for the life of me and the front desk attendant (she was the only nice part about all of this) actually said to me, "I hate it when he makes people cry." Geez.... As a recommendation, choose somewhere else. Next year, I'll stick with filing online. read more

My wife and I did our taxes with this people last year because of two 1099s, they forgot to add the 1099 and now the IRS wants their money! The IRS is correct we have to pay. But here is the kicker, the owner first looked at my paperwork tryed to blame me for their mistake. After this was realized, he started telling me how things are done in this country!! He then proceded to say when I go back to France I won't be able to get any money back unless I have worked more than 10 years, he then swichted to speak in horrible French grammer... and well you get the picture!! To make things worse, he was really pushy about me paying the full amount and cut me a check for only 45 dollars. When I told him that I spoke to the IRS, he said to me that they probably did not understood what I said because of my accent !! and insisted that I take the check. He then took my letter from the IRS and put it in the trash and told me to just send the money!! It is my understanding that H&R block garantees thier work, but it seems that this guys are not willing to do so. I am now calling the IRS and will set an appoiment with them. This will definitely be the last time that I do work with this H&R Block! Stay away from working with Christopher Price. read more

Cheryl the manager is a complete and utter wreck and completely unprofessional. Made an appointment a week in advance then left work with the office. Tried to call to get an update, no response, then emailed....no response....finally the day before I need to reply to the IRS I walk in and come to find out no work has been done. Then Cheryl the manager then starts berating me about how I waited until one week in advance....note a week ago when I met with a tax profession I asked if this was going to be an issue... they said no problem. Now they haven't done anything and I get to spend my night working on a response to the IRS by myself....10 year H&R block customer lost. STAY AWAY from this location. read more

I recently went here for help in preparing taxes. I had an issue with my 401 withdrawal. Instead of doing the research the just determined I owed over 10k. I did the research myself with the IRS and ended up with a substantial return. I ended up having to pay them and did my own taxes. DONT USE THIS OFFICE! read more

H&R Block is a fantastic company, but the owner of this franchise is not a good representation. He is very knowledgeable, but a lot of times cannot be bothered. He can be great to work with, but the majority of the time, he is extremely rude and offensive to his clientele. The ONLY thing that keeps him in business are his seasoned tax preparers. MOST of them are absolutely fantastic and would give you a great experience as long as you stay clear of the owner. read more

Went to H&R Block for taxes with small business, multiple W-2s and savings/stocks. I didn't understand that I would have to sit there for 2-1/2 hours while a very friendly but computer incompetent person filled in every single line. Guess I should have asked. If I had know that my wife and I would have had to waste 5 hours (combined) then we would have done it ourselves. To top it off, the bill came to $550 when the initial estimate was $220. They charge you based on number of forms and number of lines filled in. They were kind enough to reduce our fee to $350 but I still think we were scammed. Friendly staff but poor tax service. Never going there again! If you have something simple enough to use Turbo-Tax, it is your best bet. If you have something more complicated, go to a CPA that doesn't require you to sit there the whole time. read more

This is our third year having this office prepare our returns. We've seen Cheryl in the past who has been professional and great to work with. This year she was unavailable so I met with Lorene. What a joke! First, she was 15 minutes late for my appointment that was only supposed to be 30 minutes long! I organized all our paperwork in the folder I received from them but she wouldn't go through it herself, made me take out each form and hand it to her. Then she forgot to enter our health insurance info. She actually had to stop and google tax info on mortgage insurance-and she actually didn't even use google, she used bing! I had to get my return printed to take to my husband to sign and when I brought it back a couple hours later my file could not be located. I had to call the next day to see if Lorene had actually filed my taxes and she hadn't!! So I paid $230 for someone to be late, google how to do my taxes, and then not even file them. I may return next year if Cheryl is available but stay far away from Lorene!! I only hope she didn't screw everything up, I have little confidence in her. read more

Absolutely terrible! The owner of this location tried to charge me $125 MORE than I was quoted and then when I questioned it he said "fine I will just rip up your taxes" and hung up on me. I will be contacting consumer affairs, I am in such disbelief that this person owns a business. read more

I am so thankful that I found the West Seattle HR Block office! I used to go to a CPA, who cost three times what I paid here, and the process was never easy. My preparer was actually the owner. His name is Christoper Price. He did my personal taxes and my complicated business taxes much faster than I expected, and I ended up owing several thousand dollars less than I expected (based on the returns done by my previous tax guy). Christopher is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP), too, and I look forward to working more broadly with him later this spring. Also (this is really important to me), I was treated with total respect, although I'm totally out of my league when it comes to numbers. Christopher was a great partner, who never made me feel silly for not understanding tax terms. He's an expert, and a patient one at that!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! read more

I have used H&R block for years specifically West Seattle and before that in another state. Always great until this year. I actually went to the Delridge office but same owner, Christopher Smith. I was very distraught when I left there because of his rudeness and demeaning attitude. His first question to me was, asking me why I was there. He continued to be rude, flippant and completely unprofessional. He even said, "you are not going to like the fee I am charging you". He was right about that. My neighbor was outside when I got home and she could see that I was upset. When I began to tell her of my experience she replied, "Oh no! Is his name Chris?". She said she felt violated when she left, (actually used another term for violated) after he did her taxes. H&R block is has been great. Steer clear of the owner, better yet every one who has had this experience, please speak up. read more

I have to agree with most of the other reviewers of this West Seattle H&R Block. The owner, Chris Price, also did my taxes, and it was a terrible experience. He didn't even introduce himself, he just said "sit here" and wouldn't even wait for me to say what I was there for before he started asking me questions that had nothing to do with the return I needed done. I had an hour appointment and he went through things so quickly that I had no comprehension of what he had done or if he had taken all the info I brought. He also took other calls throughout our appointment (which was supposed to last an hour, but the time he spent with me was no more than 15 minutes. He charged me 194.00 for a very easy return that I just had a few questions about, and then very curtly sent me on my way. I know they are very busy this time of year, but even if they charge 194.00/hr, which is outrageous, he was rude, spent 15 minutes with me and I will never, ever go back there again. read more
