My initial interactions with Emily were great - she responded to my email request promptly, answered all my concerns, and was great when we met in person. She promised that her team would finish the returns in time for Tax Day and that we would have time to review and approve it. When I didn't hear any updates at all, I grew concerned but I gave them the benefit of the doubt since it was their busiest season. But when I didn't hear anything back on Monday (the day BEFORE Tax Day), I followed up. Emailed and got no response so I called and was finally able to get an update that my returns would be sent electronically to review and approve. Waited all day and still didn't get anything so followed up again. After a few back and forth we finally received the returns, reviewed and approved them and asked for an email confirmation that it was submitted. The CPAs I've worked with in the past have always sent an email confirmation or screenshot of the submitted returns to the IRS. We did not get any email confirmation from Emily's team so it made it worried that it wasn't submitted on time, especially since we've been having poor communication from them. When I followed up again, they were quick to ask me for payment for their services. I paid promptly hoping I would get the email confirmation for IRS submittal but still didn't get any confirmation that the returns were sent. I literally just needed a call, text, or email saying it was submitted on time. I followed up AGAIN with another email inquiring and FINALLY they said they submitted it to the IRS but would be emailing it to us shortly for my husband and I to e-sign. We never received the files to e-sign, unsurprisingly. I finally went in person to sign it because the email never came. My husband couldn't sign in person so I asked that they still email it so that my husband could e-sign. Let's just say he still hasn't received the returns to sign. It might not have been as bad if they didn't tell us multiple times they would be sending us something shortly to review or sign. We ended up waiting multiple times for items that were never sent (because it was the day BEFORE it was due). This is a fixable issue. Communcation is key and a quick follow up goes a long way. I don't feel it's the client's responsibility to chase after the CPA who is hired to do a job. It was a bit unprofessional for me. It's not to say I won't work with them again but they really need to improve their communication.

I uploaded my information to her 3.5 to 4 weeks before taxes are due. I supplied everything requested. I didn't hear anything from her office for about 2 weeks, then over the course of the last 2 weeks, I would get piece meal requests for information (not originally requested) as if the office/ Wanda was not really focused on my taxes. I FINALLY received my taxes back from them on Friday afternoon, August 12th with taxes due August 15th! I asked if Wanda was going to review them with me, but I was told no because the office was closed for the weekend and I must come in Monday to pay them before they would submit my taxes on Monday, August 15th! I was not even afforded the courtesy of reviewing my taxes with Wanda! My taxes are not complicated, but when I went in Monday, I was required to pay $995.00 (!) for them to submit my taxes on the due date. This amount of money was highway robbery, but what choice did I have because they forced me to the last minute. I asked to file an extension, but they were going to charge me another $250.00 to do that. Additionally, I finally met Wanda when I was making this outrageous payment and I asked her a couple of questions. It became clear to me that she is not the one who really did my taxes. Unfortunately, she did my son's taxes also. He's in his 20s with a meager income and not a complicated return. They finished his taxes about 5 days before August 15th. His invoice was $895! I couldn't believe it! He asked them why it was so high and they said they had accidentally put some of my charges on his bill and lowered it a couple hundred, but still...$695 to do his taxes! I realize she has received other rave reviews, but I would never, ever recommend Wanda O'Malley! I rarely, if ever, write reviews, but I felt this one was important. I'm actually looking forward to my current CPA's retirement now. Wanda is super approachable. she is an excellent listener who knows how to really be present with the person she is talking to. That alone scores HUGE points in my book. It seems that when most people are in conversation they are thinking about what they want to say next instead of actually engaging and truly listening. He had forgotten our appointment. Then I liked what he said and we were strongly considering moving 3 businesses and our personal business as well as payroll over to him. He never called back. He seems unorganized and understaffed to accomplish his goals.

After a year with a lot of changes, we knew that our taxes were going to be a little bit more involved than in years past. We made an appointment with Lorie and she gathered all of our information and tax documents. She was very helpful in giving overall tax advice and answering our questions. We were done with our office visit in about 25 minutes and she told us our taxes would be done in a couple of weeks. We had a few questions and pieces of information that came up after our initial meeting, and Lorie was easily accessible via email, often responding within minutes. A couple of weeks after our in-person meeting, Lorie had our taxes done and we simply needed to go in and sign them so that they could be filed. Easy! It was such a nice experience, compared to the hassle of going with a big national tax firm and having to sit there for an hour or more in a not-so-private office while they complete your taxes. It was also better than using tax software or an online service since we were able to deal with a person and ask questions and get advice on what to do given our changing circumstances. We have definitely found our go-to tax person and know that we will be in good hands in years to come.
