I visited once in 2025. At the time, a staff member comes to your table and reminds you repeatedly that you have 2 hours to dine in. This person collects your order (old school with a pen and paper, no iPad ordering system here) before you get a chance to read through the menu (which you pull up on your own phone upon scanning a QR code) so you are just scrolling through the menu and calling things out as you read it as they stand over you and wait until you have placed your first batch order. The meat was really good. Sushi selection wasn't the greatest but some good quality cuts of the raw fish. Basically, dont come here only for the sushi or you will be disappointed. They are all overly garnished for eye candy appeal in my opinion. I definitely left feeling full. Small buffet with appetizers and deserts. Basically, the experience could have been better but it felt very rushed from the time you enter until the time you leave. No time to enjoy your food as you are focused on placing your order with the human, cooking your meats on the grill, scarfing down your food so you can order more before your seating time limit is up! It was exhausting!!

Gyuyaki Japanese BBQ & Sushi Markham is smaller than the Mississauga location but the food and service is the same which is very good! It's a popular and busy place so I suggest to make a reservation especially on the weekends. The meat selection is good, as well as the sushi, and we love the soup, salad & dessert self-serve station. They are located in a plaza and there are free parking spaces available. The ambiance is relaxed and can get lively when there's a celebration.

First time coming in for my birthday. It was a Tuesday evening and I had reservations for 530. They had a strict 2 hr seating and last call. By the time I left at 730, there were still tons of people waiting in line on a Tuesday night! This place is pretty popular and the service was great. I actually liked it more than gyubee. They had more variety, snacks and sushi. I really liked the wagu roll, the shrimp tempura was very fresh and everything I thought was good! They had a snack station and dessert station with shaved ice, ice cream and little puddings like lychee yogurt, creme brûlée. It was $44.99 mon-thurs and kids $20.99, 0-4 yrs old is $3. They also provided a nice mango crepe cake for my birthday. Will come back for sure for a special occasion!

Went to Gyuyaki for my anniversary. The menu had a pretty large variety (japanese bbq, sushi, drinks, desserts). I personally did not like their sushi and after having a taste of each from their menu I decided to stick with their japanese bbq. Their Japanese bbq was super delicious and seasoned so well. I was way to full to try any of their desserts but they have such a large variety i would be back to try more for sure. Service was very quick and staff was generous.

Tried Gyuyaki in Markham after seeing it all over Instagram--had to check out the new AYCE spot for myself. The setup is pretty classic for all-you-can-eat: there's a station for side dishes, appetizers, soups, and even desserts that you can grab anytime. Honestly, the side dish station makes it easy to fill up fast since you can snack on already-cooked items while waiting for your meats to grill. Overall, a solid new AYCE addition to Markham. Great for convenience and variety, especially if you like having lots of ready-to-eat options between rounds of cooking.

The restaurant offers a nice variety of Japanese sushi and BBQ dishes. While the sushi rolls were tasty, they took quite a while to arrive. With only one grill provided for our group of six, managing the BBQ was a bit challenging. The place can get pretty crowded on weekends, but the meats were fresh and flavorful. Salad and dessert bar was a nice addition. Service was standard.

Wow, this place was busy! First off, the parking lot for this plaza is always hectic - and especially so during weekends. We went late afternoon on a Saturday and parked all the way in the back near Ithaca. We had reservations so we were seated immediately and they noted our 1 hour 45 minute dining time. During the entire time we were there, there was a wait! We were a group of 11 and got two grills but it felt like three would've been much better. However, they don't have enough seating for how busy they are so I get why we only got two. We got the special lunch menu, which is priced at $29.99. It's normally 3% off if you pay cash but they also had a promo where if you follow/like their social media AND pay cash, it's 5% off. The service was great. They kept coming by to check on us, seeing if we needed anything else, changing the grill, etc. I think this price for the lunch special is pretty great. Of course, there is a good variety of bbq meats as well as sushi, and other ready-to-eat items that you can order. The sushi specifies how many pieces it comes with. I ordered some that only came with 1 PC (which is what I wanted) but they ended up giving us a whole plate without asking... which meant that I had to finish it ~_~. They also have a self-service area for soups, appetizers, fruit, and desserts. IMO, the desserts could use some improvement. They had interesting flavours but most if it was mousse (personally not a fan). I love matcha ice cream but something tasted off with the one here. Overall, would definitely come again for the lunch special. I think it's worth it and great if you are a protein lover!

Went here for dinner and had a good overall experience. The service was attentive--they came by frequently, especially when we were close to finishing our dishes. The food was generally good, though a few of the meat items we ordered were either quite tough or mostly fat. Their sushi and cooked dishes had a more upscale presentation, with touches like gold flakes and caviar that made them feel elevated. They also had a solid selection of cooked dishes, along with a nice appetizer and dessert bar. Overall, a good all you can eat spot.

An all you can eat Japanese BBQ & sushi spot that is all the hype in Markham right now. A large variety of of meats, cold bar and a dessert bar. Service was amazing with the waiters always around to take our orders and take away dishes. However, the food lacked some flavour and the floors of the restaurant were so slippery and definitely a falling hazard. I found myself skating around the restaurant whenever I got up to get some food from the cold bar or dessert bar. The cold bar tongs were quite sticky and gross to hold, letting me know that they aren't cleaned frequently from everyone touching it. Appreciated that the portions of each plate we order was small so that we were able to try a lot of items on the menu. Like that they had raw takaki, but their sushi weren't that good. Which is okay, since we were here mainly for the bbq. Overall, liked the variety but didn't love the quality and taste.

Had to come check out Gyuyaki's special hours AYCE BBQ after hearing about a friend's great experience. We made a reservation, so we were seated right at noon. If we hadn't, we would have waited for a long time. The beef, especially the thin cuts, were melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The salad bar had many items, among them was wasabi and lettuce, which went with the ayce bbq very well. There was also a dessert bar with some small puddings and a shaved ice machine (which sadly broke down). The downside was that they were not clear (and could not, would not answer questions) about how many slices one order was. We could order 2 servings, 5 servings... still get a single plate all the same. Better to just order one by one and keep topping up I guess? But it was slightly confusing and frustrating. The service was impeccable. I liked that they kept coming around to take additional orders, and exchanged the grill proactively. And the dishes were cleared in no time. The place was spacious though the isles and the space between the tables were a little tight in some spots. The floor, even though they had just opened, was mysteriously and unpleasantly sticky, making me doubt cleanliness. Washrooms were clean though! Glad to have discovered this spot where I can enjoy beef to my heart's content :)

So much options!!! The meats are fresh and nicely prepared, a fun and tasty grilling experience. Their sushi and appetizers are also nicely made, servers are attentive, cleaned up quick and helpful, since it's all you can eat, we wanted to try a bit of everything while scared of over ordering, the staff made good recommendations. Nicely decorated interior, even though it's indoor barbecue but the place doesn't have strong greasy smell.

Self serve salad bar

Came here on a weekend for dinner - it was very busy so be sure to make a reservation. They have 3 self serve stations: salad bar, soup, and dessert. The salad bar includes mainly veggies but there was also sauce and fruits. The dessert station had a snow cone machine, ice cream, lots of toppings, and some pre-made desserts. Once you order with the server, the food comes very fast. The meat was good quality, but the sushi was very rice heavy.

Went here for a lunch. Haven't had Japanese BBQ in a long while. Ambiance - 3.5/5: typical japanese BBQ setting. There are booths on the side. We were one of the early tables seated. I was surprised to see the handwashing sink in the washroom dirty. There are only 2 stalls and not accessible. They may have a separate accessibility washroom. Free wifi - you can scan the QR code. Service - 4/5: They will call out your name when your table is ready. I appreciated the Japanese greeting when you are brought in to your seats. Most of the servers speak in Mandarin, a few in Cantonese. Their English is ok, enough to communicate. You scan the QR code to access the menu. They have a regular menu and special menu. I didn't look into the special menu. 1.75hr seating time, last call in the last 15min of seating time. There were a few birthdays and the staff come out with LED light wands. The happy birthday song is broadcasted from their TV screens. My only complaint - the grill is on max and it takes so long to make food. Food - 4/5: we tried -prime kalbi -black pepper beef brisket -beef tendon strips with truffle salt -beef tongue -angus steak (thick cut) - highly recommended -signature beef short ribs -pork belly (thick cut) -signature pork chuck -foil grilled: salmon with sake, clams with sake and butter, cheese corn, mixed mushroom with garlic - don't order so many as they take a long time to heat up. They are good once heated out. Be careful removing the foil. It is really hot -vegetables: zucchini, okra, king oyster with soy marinated -drinks: crysanthemum or the sour plum soup. They have the same appearance and colour so you'll have to try it out. As we did not order spicy, most of meat are marinated in a sweet marinade. There is a dry spice mix and soy sauce at the table, as well as communal sauce bar. I didn't need to use any except for the zucchini and okra. They have other things on the menu like sushi but we didn't try any. Recommendation: it seems like you cannot reserve unless it is a large group (1 reservation was for a group of 8). Go early to wait for a table as it fills up very quickly. We got there at 11:50am (restaurant opens at 12pm) and within 5 minutes, there were 20 tables waiting to be seated. Pricing - $45.99 + tax for adults Friday/Saturday/Sunday. If you want an unlimited pop, it's an extra $1 per customer. Cash discount - 3% Overall 3.75/5

Taki is a fine dining Japanese restaurant located in the busy commerical areas of Richmond Hill…read more We recently had lunch here for a special occasion. The restaurant is super quiet and they offer great quality of food with great service, and the price is expensive if you choose to order sukiyaki set (expect $80+ per person). You can choose between sushi sets at different price level or sukiyaki from the menu. This suits the need of our group given some people prefer sushi but some couldn't eat raw food. They also offer a couple of limited appetizer dishes such as tempuras and unagi don. If you booked the sukiyaki table and want to order sushi, you need to call them in advance to notify which sushi sets you want. We tried the sashimi and sushi courses at $55, which included miso soup, 5 pieces of sashimi, 8 pieces of sushi (squid, toros, salmon, scallop etc.), handroll and matcha or black sesame icecream at your choice. The sushi is smaller than average, suitable for small eaters. The course is totally worth the money. I love every piece of sashimi and my favourite sushi include the scallop and the squid. Everything was super fresh. The dessert was also having the perfect sweetness level for me. In addition, we also tried the sukiyaki for two ($110), which includes mushrooms, cabbages, great quality of Angus beef, yummy tofu and udon. Again, all the material was with great quality and super fresh. I especially liked the sweet sukiyaki soup, the tofu and the udon. We also ordered some shareable dishes including chawanmushi, unagi don and cod. Cod was cooked to perfect (soft and flavourful), and unagi don had quite decent portion. It would be better if the unagi could be softer from my personal opinion. Chawanmushi was mediocre. Overall, I strongly recommend this restaurant to fan of Japanese cuisine. It meets different people's needs by offering both cooked and raw food options, and the sushi set definitely has great value for money.

We were ushered through the tranquil restaurant and seated at the sushi bar, a zen ambience. We chose the $55 sushi+sashimi omakase lunch course, and it didn't disappoint. The eight pieces of nigiri featured a somewhat typical selection of fish (and hotate/scallop), but slightly edgy and unique in the choice of seasoning and flavours, prepared by Chef Takinami with all the pomp and ceremony and you would expect from fine omakase. The pacing was excellent, we never felt rushed from piece to piece; the wait staff were attentive as would be expected from a high-end Japanese restaurant, on par with omakases that cost three times as much. Overall, incredible value on the meal, for both the food and experience. We couldn't help but look around at what the regulars were enjoying (in addition to their omakase nigiri) -- botan ebi nigiri with deep fried shrimp heads, chawanmushi, cooked dishes featuring monk fish livers, tempura appetizers and more... some great ideas for our next visit!

We called ahead since we are a party 6+. We had to try multiple times because our call was left unanswered.. Overall food was great .. until I found something shiny stuck to a shrimp in the hotpot. I was able to figure out what it was once I took it out. A flexible SHARP STEEL filament - Likely from steel wool. GROSS!!!!! And DANGEROUS!!! After I found that, it ruined my appetite and night. I became paranoid and worried about my family biting into steel. Will this result in a trip to the hospital? The server was apologetic and helped us change the broth immediately but honestly I wish there was more from management. It's not like finding a strand of hair. This is serious!!! Daimaru's lack of food safety and poor hygiene is unacceptable. I am still fuming that this happened. They are lucky I found it before any of the 7 seniors found it stuck in their throat or intestines. The nice servers had to hear our anger and frustration. Eventually after the second complaint from us did the manager finally decide to come in personally and address it. Should have addressed it the moment it happened in my opinion. If you eat here, eat at your own risk and check your food carefully. Attaching our receipt of the resolution: 10% off our entire bill. Won't be recommending to anyone.

Back again and incredible again…read more Small tip. You don't need to order on only one phone. As long as you scan the bar code, you can order from any phone. Enter either you own info if paying separately or the same info if one person pays all of it. Lots of new dishes as well as old favourites: Chochin: Tried it. Not a fan. Tastes exactly the way I thought it would. Which is internal organ like but in an unpleasant creamy way. Duck liver raspberry toast: Nice but could be bigger. The raspberry brought an expected nice sweetness to the nice liver taste. A little more raspberry would be nice. Tuskune and egg yolk dip: It's ok but not that big a deal. Cheese momo: Fantastic. The swiss cheese is an excellent pairing to the chicken. Skin-Kawa - Delciious. Crispy. Must have, Hiza (knee cartidlidge): nice and crunchy Beef short rubs boneless: Was enticed due to the tendon part. It was nice but not incredible. Beef tenderloin + Chimichurri: Wife's favourite. We always order several of these. P-toro: Another must repeat. Great pork belly taste. Cherry tomato bacon maki: New and delightful. Bacon wrapped cherry tomatoes provide a delightful burst of tomatoey sweetness wrapped with the unctuousness of bacon. Lamb rib chop: Excellent and tasty. Once again everything was cooked perfectly and the amazing binchotan smoke made everything delicious. Fun fact, they put charcoal in the free water carafes as well.

Good food that hurts your wallet…read more Japanese izakayas are few and few between in Markham - that's why I got excited to see Sumoki pop up! It's not on the main street of Unionville, but its presence on a side road matches the quaint nature of the restaurant. It's not the biggest inside, but it gives off a Japanese aesthetic with the wood trim throughout. We made reservations in advance to avoid long lines, if any (thankfully it wasn't packed the night we went). Orders are made via QR code, which seems to be the norm now. I like it since you don't have to waive down waiters in a low-dimmed izakaya. Their main offering seemed to be skewers. We ordered a bunch of them to try - notably, all of them had a nice smoky fragrance to them (maybe that's why it's called Sumoki). We especially enjoyed the Grilled Chicken Skin. Perfect crunch from the initial bite leading to a slight chew throughout. The seasoning was spot on as well. Other honourable mentions include extremely succulent Chicken Thigh meat, Gizzards and Beef Tongue. You could really taste the meat juices from each skewer since the chefs don't overpower it with seasoning. Other local skewer places tend to have the same seasoning across different cuts of meat, so Sumoki felt like a breath of fresh air amongst the growing market. Coincidentally, it's also the first place I've been to offer Giant Rooster Testicles. Now...don't be alarmed. It sounds exotic and might not be everyone's cup of tea, but this dish is extremely creamy. Give it a try if you have the courage! We came to celebrate my brother's birthday, but quickly realized our bill was racking up really quickly despite a small number of orders. Sumoki is definitely a place where you don't want to come on an empty stomach, since each order is 1 skewer (unlike other local restaurants). Other menu items, from what we saw of neighbouring tables, didn't fare much better in terms of portion sizes. We left quickly to avoid some serious financial damage for the 6 of us, but also quickly drove to another impromptu restaurant to get settle our hunger down. Sumoki definitely isn't cheap. I wouldn't recommend this to be a formal dinner - moreso if you wanted a light snack after dinner. But then again, with these prices, Sumoki tries to make itself bougie without delivering 100% satisfaction so maybe try at your own risk.
