A great Japanese BBQ for the Pickering community. Service: - It was very busy for a holiday, Mother's Day. Obviously, we made a reservation a couple weeks in advance. So we only waited 5mins to be seated. Upon arriving, the electronic waitlist by front desk said 16 groups were waiting and when we left it said 28 group waiting. - some of the items we ordered took awhile to come out but the server said it's on the way soon due to backed up orders, but the rest showed up quite quick - one of the orders didn't show up, but I was full so I didn't care too much - they had a Photo Booth for Mother's Day which I thought was a nice perk - staff were quick to clear our empty dishes - our server changed out our grill 2-3 times which I appreciate - i appreciated ordering via QR code and that we could order using multiple phones, the interface was seamless overall Food: - Prime Kalbi and the Premium Beef Cubes were my favourites out of all the raw meat. I would get just those if I were to come back. They weren't too fatty. The other raw beef options were quite fatty. Also, I preferably the thinly sliced beef options since the thick beef options can be quite fatty and filling. - The Gyumono Roll and the Black Dragon Roll were tasty sushi rolls, and I like how you can modify each roll when you order them. - Their kimchi was very flavourful and probably the best out of all AYCE places I've been too - Their pineapple was sweet and fresh - Salmon sashimi tasted fresh - Fried milk bun with condensed milk was my favourite dessert that they had, their other desserts were as expected Ambience: - typical fast-paced - they sat us at a table with one grill for 5 people, it felt a bit cramped but it did the job read more

We love this place! Japanese bbq and AYCE sushi combined! We have walked in a few times with no reservation on weeknights and never had to wait. We are always seated right away . Servers always very attentive here (which is unique for an AYCE place) where I'm used to the staff typically coming and going collecting empty plates and dropping off new orders. They do change your grill at the half way point automatically which is great! Great selection of meats, seafood, sushi,sashimi and much much more. We loooove the warm milk bread that is served with condensed milk for dipping. This is not a usual item at any AYCE restaurant so we always look forward to this here. Their tables can easily be divided to accomodate a group of 8 or 4 by way of a divider in between the table that can be added or removed. Its pretty genius! The staff are all so friendly! I love Japanese BBQ and I've been wanting to try Gyumono ever since they opened in my neighbourhood a few months ago. I finally ended up going with my cousins recently and we all enjoyed it! Their AYCE menu offers lots of choices, and our meal included Sushi, Sashimi, Grilled Meats, Seafood, Desserts, and lots more. There were tons of choices, much more than we could eat, or even just try. Almost all the meats were thinly cut for quick cooking, and we chose not to have chicken because of the longer cooking time. We got our money's worth and everything tasted great! Although we got there early (4:30pm), this place was busy, and there were quite a few people waiting to get in when we were leaving. It's worth the wait! Despite being really busy, the service was really good - quick and friendly. Food was delivered very soon after ordering, and empty vessels were cleared quickly, all with a smile. Kudos to the staff! Decent food compared to others in the area, including seafood and sushi options. Wish there were more alternatives than red meat, only 1 chicken option. Spacious. Service was a bit slow. There were pockets of time where a bunch of staff were chatting, maybe team meeting. I waited and asked the next staff I saw for the bill and they seemed to have forgotten about it. 3.5 stars. Came here for a birthday lunch ayce. $30.99, my friend's bday and so we got 10% off the menu. The lunch menu is very limited and the meat was too thinly sliced. Thick hot pot style beef, so it felt like we were eating beef bacon. It was okay for what you got. The sushi rolls were good, but the torched sushi had a ton of rice. If you post on your social media right now you can get a free mocktail, it was lemonade with blackcurrant syrup. It was super sweet, I kept adding water. The service was really good. The waiter and waitress kept checking on us and knew when to bring the birthday cake. I did not even have to ask and they cleared the table for us. It was nice inside too. Maybe the lunch set menu has nicer meats. Will try next time. Hopefully the meats are better and not so thin. read more

First time coming here with my parents. We came here on New Year's, and I can say it's pretty good and comparable to Gyuhito. (For me, both places are great, but here they have sushi and sashimi.) This made my parents fall in love with the place. The service was satisfactory; however, as they got busier, our orders got delayed or missed. I recommend not coming on special occasions, as you can't expect the service to be 100% or even 50%. I would also recommend making reservations to be on the safe side. If you have a baby and plan to bring them along, it is difficult as there isn't space for strollers. As for the noise level, it is decent, not too loud. Nice to see Pickering is getting more Asian restaurants popping up. We decided to give this place a try after it's been opened for a few short months. We made a reservation and didn't walk in with much expectations. Over all, it was ok. I probably would opt for a different location. The food was average, but there's things that just sent a message of lack of quality/ care. I won't go through the whole menu, but I will say that a lot of the foiled stuff was just swimming in a pool of oil. I couldn't eat them, but based off the feedback from our fellow diners, it wasn't great. Overly salty, very oily, and oddly lacking in flavour. I don't usually love the foiled stuff anyway at bbq. The meats were ok. A lot were really fatty, so we had crazy fires. Our grill was also really frustrating. Half of it worked and the other half didn't. So even if we lay all the food at the same time, i had to keep spinning the rack to get it all to cook. I really hope they fix that up. The little safety rod that stands on the tables (presumably to spray the thing down incase of grease fire?) were also crooked at many tables. Not sure if they plan to fix those but it's quite awkward. The marinated meats didn't taste much like anything but luckily, they had ssamjang and garlic and lettuce so you can make your own flavour and wrap combos. I really liked their kimchi. I think they just made it fresh so it didn't have the super sour flavour yet. It tasted amazing with every bite of meat. The pre-cooked items were not really great for us. Again, very oily. The sashimi were okay. Definitely not the freshest tasting or texture, but for AYCE, it's what you expect really. The sushi's were not great though. Really loose rolls and nigiri, and really a TON of rice for each piece of fish. I wouldn't order those again. I think they could easily improve on the sushi part of their menu. They didn't have a ton of veggie options, but I was happy to get zucchini and pineapples. Those are pretty much my staple BBQ requests and so I was fulfilled. haha! Dessert was disappointing. Not a ton of options. The creme brule was not bruleed fresh, so the sugar was kinda cold and wet. That's suppose to be the best part! I was so sad. And instead of the usual melona bar, they offer the chapmans individual ice creams. They literally didn't have the one flavour everyone wanted. It was so sad. So we opted for jello which was really not great. It didn't have flavour. Service was nice though. The team did their best. A lot of our orders didn't show up (so if we order say 4 of something, they might bring 1 or none). It was a bit frustrating and we didn't want to put in another order incase it suddenly all came at once. They had to run back and forth a lot to check on missing things. We felt so bad. They were so nice about it. All in all, as much as I complain, it's an average BBQ spot. It's not terrible or anything. Personally, I know my friends and I would not come back here. I think we're just a bit pickier when it comes to Korean/ Japanese bbq. Selections and quality just didn't hit the spot. read more

My friend came to Gyumomo once and took my husband and I here tonight. The beef were marinated nicely! The best part was they don't all taste the same flavour as some other places. Not too salty, just right. The salmon sashimi were very fresh. The spicy seafood foil is a must try! The spice level was just right -mala style! They serve cold noodles, handmade brown sugar rice cake. The tako was tasty and the salmon tataki. The staff were nice and friendly. Ambiance was nice and comfy. As Pickering becomes more upcoming, The restaurants in the area are keeping up well. Gyumono Japanese Grill is a modern Japanese grill style just opening a few weeks ago. And there are a couple things worth mentioning: Don't expect to be overwhelmed with the menu. While still new the menu is small and I expect them to expand soon. Nonetheless the options were good! All meats were very well seasoned high quality and tasted fresh. I was extremely happy about the sushi, very fresh and tasted amazing! And a huge fan of the Fried Bun (highly recommend). Waiters/waitresses and front house are friendly, but are in a rush constantly. Food took a while to get to our table. For a Monday night they were decently busy but giving that the place is still new it's expected to have some hiccups and service is one of them. The prices are fair, expect to pay extra for all you can drink which is new to me and found strange ($3.75) for two people on a weekday costed around $100 without tip. Overall, A great location for this restaurant, great food and great ambiance, price is fair for the restaurant theme and food options. Needs to be better flow between waitresses and waiters, but I'm confident they will get there. Definitely will be back in the future. Hope this helps read more

The first 1-star review was not fair... overly criticized. Btw, they had a soft opening at the end July. So, give them some grace... The place and food are great! I've been there 3 times already! They have meat and sushi. Both very good quality! Note that most of the cooking it's actually on you to season it! Could have more options of marinated veggies and maybe trim a bit of the fat of some meat. The cocktails and mocktails were great! For a Pickering restaurant, it is a great outing! Great service and food. Variety and quality, you get the best of both worlds with sashimi and grilled meat. Also really enjoy their salad.

The food is amazing. Could use a little bit more sushi selection. Nice atmosphere and brightly lit. However, once it gets busy their service slows down. We waited over 20min for our next round of stuff to cook. The portions are all put in nice plates that are not stackable maybe thats why its taking long. By the time we got our order we weren't that hungry anymore. They give you 2 hr seating but half of that is just waiting for your food.
