    Brisket, sub gravy
    Sabrina C.

Probably my favourite fried chicken place of all time! The only place where I don't cringe if I grab a piece of breast meat - it's always cooked to juicy perfection! I've never had a dry piece of chicken from Horn Dawgs, and we've been getting them for years. I love getting their brisket, but sub the sweet bbq sauce with the savoury gravy. It looks dry, but it's always melt in your mouth tender. We've also tried (but not pictured this time): ribs, poutine, onion rings, brisket poutine, Baby Dawg combo, nachos, sausage sampler, and the Beef Rib Dinner. The Beef Rib was amazing, fork tender on a huge bone, something you'd see on the Flintstones dinner table, but highly recommend if you're treating yourself to something special.

So glad this place lived up to the expectations I had from its rave reviews. This is one of my new favourite food places in Pickering. I pre-ordered on their website for pick up on a Saturday and was so pleased with the food. I ordered the beef brisket tacos ($14) with Mac & cheese as side while my bf got the brisket poutine with the spicy bbq HD sauce ($15). Everything was packed nicely, my tacos stayed in place and weren't soggy at all. They deffff don't skimp out on the brisket. We were both so satisfied with the portions and not to mention the fair pricing. The tacos were amazing. The components were all perfect together and the brisket was so soft and delicious. I can't wait to come back!

After many travels to great BBQ places in the American south, I was apprehensive about trying Horn Dawgs. I wasn't sure if this tiny place in Pickering could compete with the big boys. Imagine my sheer delight when I was wowed by every single thing that we ordered - tender brisket smothered in sauce, fall off the bone ribs, fresh cut fries that were expertly fried, and crispy onion rings with just the right amount of batter and perfect onion size. We ordered online off their website for pickup. There was no option for what type of brisket (fatty or lean) but I felt like we received a mix of both. Usually I go for fatty to avoid any chance of the learn meat being dry, but there was no need with this place it was all really tasty. Another thing I noticed was that they have a lot of daily deals that aren't listed on the menu. They were on the walls in store however. If you're interested in these, I'd suggest giving them a call. The shop is a little hidden at night since there are no light up signs but yes, it's in an industrial looking plaza. Google Maps was able to take us there with no issues. The lady that was working there was actually kind of snappy but the cooks in the back that brought out our order were really nice. Will be back!

Can't decide extreme poutine - pulled pork and beef brisket

Found this hidden gem on yelp! It's tucked away beside pickering go train station, and quite busy for an extreme cold alert Thursday evening. Throughout the time that we are here, there's always people coming in and going out for dine-in and take-out. I loved my pulled pork extreme poutine. Asked for no cheese and extra gravy so my customization really can't be called poutine! The portion is huge for the price. I barely finished a quarter and took the rest to go. There's a huge serving of pulled pork, and the spicy BBQ sauce made it phenomenal! There's one staff working during the evening, and he was the most friendly person ever! We promised we will come by again next time to try the chicken wings and ribs. I can't wait!

I was craving some seriously authentic BBQ and I was kinda surprised by how delicious it was. Horn dawgs is tucked away in a small service Ontario plaza, I couldn't even see it from the road. I walked in and my mood changed, I walked back into time - super tiny counter restaurant with the menu taking up a whole wall. The smell of sweetness and BBQ was overwhelming. I ordered my favourite thing to order Pulled Pork with coleslaw with a side of Chipotle sauce, Mac & Cheese & a Poutine. All that cost me $18.00 and to me that's hella cheap because in Toronto, all that would have cost me double. The food came by in 10 minutes of me ordering and I went to the best seat; my car! I took one bite and instantly hit with a really good BBQ sauce. It wasn't too smoky and had the perfect hint of sweetness & stickiness. The coleslaw had a nice crunch and the chipotle mayo added a bit of spice. I thoroughly enjoyed the sandwich. I moved on to the Mac & Cheese and was very disappointed. It tastes like chicken noodle soup, and wasn't at all cheesy. The Poutine saved the day with cheesy curds and a really good homemade gravy. I will definitely come back, I'd like to try the Ribs & Fried Chicken. Keep Eating, Angela

Fries were a bit stale but we ordered 20 mins before closing during Easter so it's all good. Love the cornbread flavour. It's a different shape than when we ordered before and I like these better! The baby dawg is so worth it. Wings are HUGE! Not totally my thing but appreciate that the wings are that big. Coleslaw is really good. Potato salad is good. Mac and cheese is different...a bit powdery and hot rather than cold salad. Ribs are fall off the bone great!

If you have been to numerous Ribfests in the area and probably seen Horn Dawgs in quite a few of them. I always enjoy BBQs from Horn Dawgs. If you are like me kind of sick and tired of GTA's long and cold winter and dreaming about all those smell of meat at Rib Fests? Then dream no more because you can get those smokey piece of meat any time of the year. Horn Dawgs' menu is more extensive here than what they offers at the ribfest. And they also have specials during the week or you can get a combo. BBQ year round with no long line up! Definitely worth coming if you are in the area for a quick lunch!

Nothing but gristle for the $19 brisket add on
    Brian R.

Not worth $100. Feels like food court takeout. The $20 brisket add on was all gristle. The ribs were far from fall off the bone. They were glued to the bone. They also showed up ice cold despite us living 8min away. No way they were warm out of the restaurant. Won't be eating the leftovers and won't be coming back. Waste of $100.

Literally the best nachos I've ever had.

We ordered a Family Deal for 4 and were told it would be ready in 15 minutes which it was. The restaurant itself is not open for dining right now but the ambiance is really cool. It's decked out in Raps/Leafs/Jays stuff and there are cozy booth seats with TVs all around. The Family Deal was more than enough food and we had a lot of wing leftovers. The wings were large and really crispy even though they had been tossed in the sauce. I'd say that there were slightly more drumsticks than there were wings if that matters to you. The flavours we tried were the 40 Creek BBQ, Honey Mustard, and Raps on the Ranch. They were all good and I think they were especially good in combination since the Raps flavour was creamy, the honey mustard was tangy, and the BBQ was well, BBQ. The fries were very crispy (and salty although I don't mind) and very good with the gravy. I'm still trying to canvas the entire area for all the different wing offerings but you definitely can't go wrong with this place!

The Wing Spot is next door to Sunset Grill. I love Sunset Grill. For a brief second, I had thought about going right. Instead, I stuck to my gameplan and went left. The place was empty just before 2 pm. I decided to dine in. There were plenty of booths and NCAA basketball games were on all TVs. My server was great, but perhaps too chatty. He told me that they were short-staffed and that he was working extra hours. Um, okay. I got a menu and took a look. I went with the single deal, which is a pound of wings (you choose one flavour only), with fries and veggies, and a can of pop. I didn't see the fries and veggies part until my server let me know. So, his chattiness did help. He also let me know that this place has been open since December 2018. I asked for gravy for the fries. It was going for $2. I was game. I also went with garlic explosion for my wings. I got my food pretty fast. He also came back with napkins and cutlery, as they were missing at the table. The wings were hot, crispy, and packed with flavour. I loved the garlic explosion so much that I ended up dipping my fries in the gravy, and then rolling them in what was left of the garlic explosion mix in my basket. So good! The gravy was delicious! It came piping hot and made regular fries a ton better. The veggies consisted of one carrot stick and one celery stick. If you are looking for a serving of veggies, you aren't getting them here. It came with ranch dressing, which was good. The garlic flavour lingered in my mouth for nearly two hours. It's a good sign of deliciousness for me. Sure, you will die if I breath on you, but that's a risk that you may need to take. The server had obviously worked more hours than he should have. He let me know that he was leaving and apologized for perhaps looking unprofessional. I completely understood and his heart was in the right place. The downside was the pass-off between this server, the guy in the kitchen, and the new guy taking over serving duties. I heard my server talk to the kitchen guy that I was in the dining area. The kitchen guy didn't tell the new guy. So, I didn't get any service. Instead, I went up to the counter and asked for my bill. I don't blame the new server taking over. He didn't know. There needs to be better communication between staff members, so that customers are not left hanging. This place accepts debit and credit cards, and cash. I paid with a debit card. The washroom is unisex. There is only one. It was clean and spacious. There were tons of hooks to hang up your jacket or purse, which I appreciated. I felt comfortable eating here. There were lots of games to watch and the booth was roomy. I'd come back here again. There were many folks ordering takeout. I may just do the same where I am in town again, likely giving Sunset Grill a visit. (108)
