    A feast!
    Hin T.

I had a blast eating here. The quality of the food was quite good and the service was fast and friendly too. They changed the grill when we needed it quickly. I liked all the food but the beef ribs was a bit tough. Other than that, I would definitely recommend check this place out. I left satisfied!

Food is fresh, food arrived shortly after every order was placed Ambiance, everything is clean and lots of space between tables. Service, servers are very friendly, love how they offer to change the grill top without customer asking The only improvement for them will be to state on the advertisement that "each customer will need to post on social media to get this promotion price"

My rating sits somewhere between 3.5 or 4 out of 5 stars. I'd say like 3.8 or 3.9 stars. Visited this resto last night for my buddy's bday dinner. The resto occupies the spot that Firefly Cafe used to be in (next to Gol's Lanzhou Noodles). Decor is very pretty. Granite tops and walls. The washrooms are also very clean and well stocked. We had 16 ppl in our dining party and we were given a side dining room w/ multiple grills (3 tables w/ 1 grill that sat 4 and 1 table w/ 2 grills that sat 6). Our waitress was extremely attentive. She kept double checking the kitchen to make sure we got our orders and constantly changed out our grills (I forgot to ask for her name but she was young). Now on to the dining. First off, the grills have 3 heat settings. I found myself manually tinkering w/ the heat control when cooking a lot of the thinner or fattier slices because the flames would climb quite fast and high for those meats. Sometimes we'd have to turn off the heat completely just to prevent massive flare ups haha. My 2 fave cuts would have to be the premium short ribs (boneless) and the secret beef belly (which basically uses a special chef's marinade). The premium short ribs were marbled well. While the food was pretty solid overall, I would have to say it doesn't crack my top 3 places for jbbq. Overall slightly less selection, flavour and marbling of meat compared to Gyu Hito, Shinta or Gyubee (Gyu hito has ribeye steak and Gyubee has the most meat selection). I will say they give Matsuda good head to head but Matsuda's selling point is their giant scallops and tiger prawns imo which this place doesn't have (they have small shrimps and no scallops). They've only been open 2 months so I think with a couple adjustments/improvements (increase meat, seafood and dessert selection a lil more and use a bit more seasoning/marinade for some of the cuts) they could become a worthy jbbq stalwart in the markham area. They told us there'd be a 2 hour seating time but they let us dine past the alloted time to let us get our fill of food and they did not pressure us at all which was nice of them. Price was in line w/ the competitors I mentioned above.

I've been here twice already since the restaurant opened. Service is amazing and I love the menu options. There's more appetizer options here compared to other jbbq places. Service is FAST and the food comes out shortly after ordering. Clean up, changing the grill, and water service was amazing. The meats are quality, sushi is good, and the appetizers are good. My favourite dishes would be the garlic mussels and the tofu skin.

I tried this relatively new Japanese all-you-can-eat BBQ grill spot yesterday, and overall, it was just okay. For the price, I definitely think there are better options elsewhere as of now. About $55 including $8 discount on a Thursday (you can get $1-3 off per person through rock paper scissors). The seating was comfortable and spacious, and there were some nice amenities in the washroom though the toilet buttons weren't working. Table ventilation was okay, and the salmon sushi, longanisa, beef ribs, beef rib meat, beef tendon, and chicken cartilage stood out for me. I also enjoyed the costco french fries, deep fried capelin fish and takowasabi. That said, the experience had drawbacks. Ordering is done through a QR code, which the website was clunky at times, and we had about 4 rounds oforders that were missed entirely. The staff seemed inexperienced and had to often ask each other for answers. Food quality was inconsistent where some meat cuts were thin, others tough or overly fatty, leading to crazy fire that burned the food. The crème brûlée (labelled pudding) was disappointing, too soft with uneven torching. Drinks came with strange pearls that didn't taste good and clogged the straw, and even simple requests like hot water resulted in room temperature water. On top of that, the images from their QR menu felt misleading compared to what actually arrived. Also worth keeping in mind: their Google reviews are definitely skewed by discounts offered in exchange for ratings, (the table next to ours sent 5 stars before even eating) so the stars don't fully reflect reality.

My first time here for their AYCE lunch for soft opening. I like the decor inside the restaurant, bright and trendy. We started ordering and didn't expect much, but turns out all the food are fresh and lightly marinated unlike the other Japanese bbq all you can eat place, which I LOVE! Here are the list I think it's a MUST order: - popcorn chicken (lightly battered) - original beef belly - beef tongue (I like it thin slice) - pork belly - kimchi - clam with wine (fresh and light) - crispy skin (you don't find it in many places) ! Also!!! They are so dedicated to the allergies - like my kids is one of them, their sauce station has labelled "contain with peanut/nut". I would like highly recommend it since they have promotions for soft opening, great service. I'll definitely come with my kids again!

This All You Can Eat Japanese BBQ restaurant just had it's grand opening recently between Aug 29 and I visited on Aug 30th. The decora were modern, pretty and a dark luxury theme. They even have VIP rooms for small gather parties with privacy. Free complimentary tea (jasmine tea) which is a nice touch to the overall dining experience. They offer appetizers, deep fried snacks, beef, pork, chicken, lamb, seafood, main dish (carbs) and dessert. They also have drinks for additional charge. Lots of variety to choose from their menu. My top picks are the Hokkaido smoked beef, New Orleans chicken wings, cold noodle, sweet sausage, deep fried fish fillet in honey mustard and deep fried mushroom. Overall meat quality is so so in my opinion. 3.5 out of 5 would be my honest review. I've visited other AYCE Japanese BBQ restos and their meat quality is definetely better but can't complain for the price. I went for lunch $26.99 and they currently have a special promotional discount. Please watch my video YouTube channel for full details @imhellochloe on this visit. Thank you or your support. Staffs were nice and friendly.

Came for their lunch special on a Monday afternoon. It was my first time here, the vibe was very relaxing however I did find it was quite cold inside. They are having ayce lunch specials with a variety of food to choose from. If you're looking for Japanese bbq this is certainly a great place to check out.

The ambiance was modern with three individual VIP rooms. It's lovely where I can enjoy Japanese bbq with my family in a nice small private setting. We came as a table for five. The ribs were nicely marinated and not just drizzle with sauce like other places. The beef were fresh. Sushi were not bad. It will be nice if they have some sashimi selection. Overall, the meat were fresh and there is salmon and clams. Service was nice and attentive. The peach popsicle was good. Overall, a nice experience!

Delicious food, great service and competitive price. No wait time during Wednesday noon. Chill environment.

The restaurant is super quiet and they offer great quality of food with great service, and the price is expensive if you choose to order sukiyaki set (expect $80+ per person). You can choose between sushi sets at different price level or sukiyaki from the menu. This suits the need of our group given some people prefer sushi but some couldn't eat raw food. They also offer a couple of limited appetizer dishes such as tempuras and unagi don. If you booked the sukiyaki table and want to order sushi, you need to call them in advance to notify which sushi sets you want. We tried the sashimi and sushi courses at $55, which included miso soup, 5 pieces of sashimi, 8 pieces of sushi (squid, toros, salmon, scallop etc.), handroll and matcha or black sesame icecream at your choice. The sushi is smaller than average, suitable for small eaters. The course is totally worth the money. I love every piece of sashimi and my favourite sushi include the scallop and the squid. Everything was super fresh. The dessert was also having the perfect sweetness level for me. In addition, we also tried the sukiyaki for two ($110), which includes mushrooms, cabbages, great quality of Angus beef, yummy tofu and udon. Again, all the material was with great quality and super fresh. I especially liked the sweet sukiyaki soup, the tofu and the udon. We also ordered some shareable dishes including chawanmushi, unagi don and cod. Cod was cooked to perfect (soft and flavourful), and unagi don had quite decent portion. It would be better if the unagi could be softer from my personal opinion. Chawanmushi was mediocre. Overall, I strongly recommend this restaurant to fan of Japanese cuisine. It meets different people's needs by offering both cooked and raw food options, and the sushi set definitely has great value for money.

That's because every other guest was a well-known "regular" -- a very good sign. We were ushered through the tranquil restaurant and seated at the sushi bar, a zen ambience. We chose the $55 sushi+sashimi omakase lunch course, and it didn't disappoint. The eight pieces of nigiri featured a somewhat typical selection of fish (and hotate/scallop), but slightly edgy and unique in the choice of seasoning and flavours, prepared by Chef Takinami with all the pomp and ceremony and you would expect from fine omakase. The pacing was excellent, we never felt rushed from piece to piece; the wait staff were attentive as would be expected from a high-end Japanese restaurant, on par with omakases that cost three times as much. Overall, incredible value on the meal, for both the food and experience. We couldn't help but look around at what the regulars were enjoying (in addition to their omakase nigiri) -- botan ebi nigiri with deep fried shrimp heads, chawanmushi, cooked dishes featuring monk fish livers, tempura appetizers and more... some great ideas for our next visit!

We called ahead since we are a party 6+. We had to try multiple times because our call was left unanswered.. Overall food was great .. until I found something shiny stuck to a shrimp in the hotpot. I was able to figure out what it was once I took it out. A flexible SHARP STEEL filament - Likely from steel wool. GROSS!!!!! And DANGEROUS!!! After I found that, it ruined my appetite and night. I became paranoid and worried about my family biting into steel. Will this result in a trip to the hospital? The server was apologetic and helped us change the broth immediately but honestly I wish there was more from management. It's not like finding a strand of hair. This is serious!!! Daimaru's lack of food safety and poor hygiene is unacceptable. I am still fuming that this happened. They are lucky I found it before any of the 7 seniors found it stuck in their throat or intestines. The nice servers had to hear our anger and frustration. Eventually after the second complaint from us did the manager finally decide to come in personally and address it. Should have addressed it the moment it happened in my opinion. If you eat here, eat at your own risk and check your food carefully. Attaching our receipt of the resolution: 10% off our entire bill. Won't be recommending to anyone.

Enter either you own info if paying separately or the same info if one person pays all of it. Lots of new dishes as well as old favourites: Chochin: Tried it. Not a fan. Tastes exactly the way I thought it would. Which is internal organ like but in an unpleasant creamy way. Duck liver raspberry toast: Nice but could be bigger. The raspberry brought an expected nice sweetness to the nice liver taste. A little more raspberry would be nice. Tuskune and egg yolk dip: It's ok but not that big a deal. Cheese momo: Fantastic. The swiss cheese is an excellent pairing to the chicken. Skin-Kawa - Delciious. Crispy. Must have, Hiza (knee cartidlidge): nice and crunchy Beef short rubs boneless: Was enticed due to the tendon part. It was nice but not incredible. Beef tenderloin + Chimichurri: Wife's favourite. We always order several of these. P-toro: Another must repeat. Great pork belly taste. Cherry tomato bacon maki: New and delightful. Bacon wrapped cherry tomatoes provide a delightful burst of tomatoey sweetness wrapped with the unctuousness of bacon. Lamb rib chop: Excellent and tasty. Once again everything was cooked perfectly and the amazing binchotan smoke made everything delicious. Fun fact, they put charcoal in the free water carafes as well.

Good food that hurts your wallet…read more Japanese izakayas are few and few between in Markham - that's why I got excited to see Sumoki pop up! It's not on the main street of Unionville, but its presence on a side road matches the quaint nature of the restaurant. It's not the biggest inside, but it gives off a Japanese aesthetic with the wood trim throughout. We made reservations in advance to avoid long lines, if any (thankfully it wasn't packed the night we went). Orders are made via QR code, which seems to be the norm now. I like it since you don't have to waive down waiters in a low-dimmed izakaya. Their main offering seemed to be skewers. We ordered a bunch of them to try - notably, all of them had a nice smoky fragrance to them (maybe that's why it's called Sumoki). We especially enjoyed the Grilled Chicken Skin. Perfect crunch from the initial bite leading to a slight chew throughout. The seasoning was spot on as well. Other honourable mentions include extremely succulent Chicken Thigh meat, Gizzards and Beef Tongue. You could really taste the meat juices from each skewer since the chefs don't overpower it with seasoning. Other local skewer places tend to have the same seasoning across different cuts of meat, so Sumoki felt like a breath of fresh air amongst the growing market. Coincidentally, it's also the first place I've been to offer Giant Rooster Testicles. Now...don't be alarmed. It sounds exotic and might not be everyone's cup of tea, but this dish is extremely creamy. Give it a try if you have the courage! We came to celebrate my brother's birthday, but quickly realized our bill was racking up really quickly despite a small number of orders. Sumoki is definitely a place where you don't want to come on an empty stomach, since each order is 1 skewer (unlike other local restaurants). Other menu items, from what we saw of neighbouring tables, didn't fare much better in terms of portion sizes. We left quickly to avoid some serious financial damage for the 6 of us, but also quickly drove to another impromptu restaurant to get settle our hunger down. Sumoki definitely isn't cheap. I wouldn't recommend this to be a formal dinner - moreso if you wanted a light snack after dinner. But then again, with these prices, Sumoki tries to make itself bougie without delivering 100% satisfaction so maybe try at your own risk.
