Excellent. Stopped cuz I wanted a different than normal sandwich and I like gyros. Got the super, apply named. Stuffed and their spicy sauce had just enough kick to make it special. So much flavor next time I'm gonna try the standard cuz I do like gyro meat flavor. Fries were larger than I expected. Okay, so this place looks like it's always empty so I never bothered. My wife and I were craving a gyro since we missed the Mediterranean food back in LA. This place pops up and we hope for the best. Boom! Instantly we became fans. Food is well seasoned, taste fresh, and is always served with a smile. This place is so good my wife has had had it once a week, I am not lying. The original is a staple, meets the ideal gyro taste profile. But the Philly Gyro was my favorite variation. Meaty,cheesy, and flavor bomb form the peppers with onions. This spot is super close to my house so I've been wanting to check it out for a minute. I love a good gyro and so stop by for lunch one day. I ordered the option that had bacon as well as some feta fries. The red sauce was a bit of an overkill, it seemed to have been added last and just kind of soaked the bread. I will say my favorite part was the fries, they were absolutely fantastic. The gyro was a little hard to eat and pretty messy overall. I think maybe next time I would skip the sauce or just ask for light spice. I will also know that their drive-through is not functional, it is a go inside only option kind of place. it wouldn't hurt to take down some of the drive-through signage unless they are planning on opening that up eventually. read more

That was unfortunate. Okay, the Gyro Shack menu says so much for a combo and so much for a sandwich but no explanation. What's a combo? Oh, it's a sandwich plus one of these things. Okay, I'll take this sandwich, combo with this side. My wife does the same thing. Give over the credit card, no numbers displayed on our side of the register until the total. The $36.15 price for two sandwiches, two sides and a drink sounds okay, if high (the place is expensive for a "fast" food), what do I care? Okay. Throw a $5 into the tip basket for a one-minute counter encounter. No thank you. Well, my wife wants to see the receipt; determines we've been overcharged. Goes back up. Spends the next (I'm not exaggerating) five minutes determining that _some_ sides have an upchage on the combo and getting a refund. Okay. Food is as slow to come out as it was in the Lotaburger this place used to be. Okay. At least we have the overly loud commercial radio (more commercials than radio) to keep us company. And the fruit flies that are for some reason cruising around and landing on us and our table (later, our food). Atmosphere is like a fast food burger place in a notso-hotso location - a variety of booths, overly loud radio blaring. My order is called. Counterperson is irritated with me (I suppose because my wife made them re-ring the order to take off the side with the exorbitant upcharge); sure glad I gave her a fin for the minute it took to ring in our order. Gives me everything "to go" in a bag - um, we're eating here. No drinks - Um, what about our drinks, Miss? Gives me the two waters. No napkins - um, may I have some napkins, Miss? She's irritated. Take it back to the table. My wife says she had an iced tea! She did. She paid for it! Argh. She says the heck with it. Fine; whatever gets us out of here fastest. Okay, we eat. The food's actually pretty tasty. Pitas are fresh, meat is generous and not overcooked. Condiments and extras are interesting and in appropriate proportions. (I had a Super Gyro with hummus; wife had an original gyro and canceled her feta and olive bowl because of the undisclosed upcharge. Never got the tea she ordered and paid for.) Music's still blaring. Fruit flies are still fruit-flying. Landing on our hands while we eat. We eat fast and get up to leave. I holler "Thank you" and wave on the way out. Workers look up but no response. I had a bad time at my supper at this Gyro Shack and doubt I'll return. I appear to be in a minority: People were streaming in the whole time, and the drive-through was full. They are highly reviewed here on Yelp. They clearly don't need our business and they evidently don't care about being accurate or even polite to us. Shook the dust from my feet in the parking lot . . . I was soooo excited to try this brand new place out and man it was absolutely delicious. I got a Philly gyro with green chile and ranch instead of tzatziki and it was fresh, warm, and amazingly delicious. The chile was super fresh and spicy good. The pita was soft and pillowy. The cheese was melty and hit the comfort food spot. I ordered a combo and got the Lemon Orzo soup as my side. It was just as good as the gyro. I also got some white chocolate lemon cookies. I'm telling you, I ate like a queen. The atmosphere is wonderful. It's very family oriented and the owners were super friendly. I love that it has a drive thru also. I cannot recommend this place enough. I will definitely be back to try everything on the menu. Cheers! read more

Great almost "fast food" Greek. Was very disappointed when the San Mateo location closed. The food is great. The prices are a bit high and delivery is a bit slow for fast food - but they are making real food in there - not just a burger on a flattop or rotary grill. read more

I am legitimately obsessed with this place. I love Greek/Mediterranean and there aren't many quick and easy options up in the heights. After hearing about this place and people raving about it, I had to check it out. Hubby and I are huge fans and have been back several times. For our first go we tried the gyros- I think the Supreme and it was delicious. Our next visit more recently we tried the rice bowls and WOW. So, generally nothing about a rice bowl excites me. I'm not that big of a rice fan but I was intrigued by the lemon rice description so I opted to try it. OMG...it is SO GOOD. The awesomeness of the regular gyro but with this amazing lemon rice. We both got the Super Rice Bowl and it was HUGE. I wish there was a bit more meat considering the portions of the other items but if you're starving it will fill you up and if you have self control, it can easily be two meals. One of the best deals in town for sure. The tzatziki is delicious along with the hummus. I do love the red and green sauce but always opt for it on the side- some things work better with one vs. the other. For those who are more sensitive to spicy, the red and greens sauces can be very spicy. We've also had a chance to try the baklava (YUM- definitely recommend) and the deliciously refreshing lemon cookies (like summer in a cookie!). I love that you can also order online and pick up through the drive through. Service has always been very friendly too. I'm a huge fan and love that this is something I can grab for dinner on the way home from work or even an awesome lunch for something different. Great value too. read more

When I rolled up at noon, the line was out the door so I took that as a good sign and decided to still wait! It did take me over 40 minutes to order and get my food, but I didn't mind. The building was previously an old Blake's Lotaburger so it wasn't anything fancy, but still clean and had enough seating for everyone in there. I really enjoyed my Deluxe Gyro! I want to order it next time but upgrade it to a rice bowl! The Greek Fries were so good! I highly recommend you order a side of hot sauce because it goes good with the gyro and fries! But I will say I wasn't a huge fan of the baklava. The manager, or perhaps owner, was there and was so friendly and nice to everyone! The location of this restaurant is not good. When we went on a Saturday evening, there was one other couple in the whole place. The gyros were ok. The rice bowls had crunchy/uncooked rice. They care about their food here. The yummy gyros can be made as a salad instead of their traditional pita bread, which I prefer. The Tzatziki sauce is one of my favorites in town. The French fries have regular salted or with Greek seasonings. Both are delicious choices. The salad and veggies are fresh and tasty. When I want to treat myself to a good, quick lunch or dinner, I drive here because I know I will be happy with my food everytime. read more

I've eaten here 3 times. The first time was pretty good. The second time was awesome. Whoever built my gyro took pride in their job on the second trip I took there. The third trip was as about as sorry as could be . It was on a week-end. That had little pieces of meat trying to make the gyro look full. All that you could taste was the damn bread and that white sauce. The best I can tell you is go on a weekday when there is a guy named Daniel working. You're more likely to get a great gyro with the appropriate amount of meat in it. A good place overall. read more

WOW this place was a good surprise! We weren't sure how big they'd be or which one's we'd like so we ordered 3. We went with the Deluxe, the Chicken Bacon Ranch, and the Philly. My GF loved the chicken bacon ranch, and I thought it was good as well. My favorite, surprisingly, was the Philly. It was amazing! Warm, with melted cheese, inside the soft & fresh Pita, it sshhhhmacked! The deluxe was great too! There's a very good and fair amount of meat inside. I think ordering 1 for lunch would be totally fine. If you are hungry though it seems like 1 may not be quite enough, but 2 is a lot! I can't wait to go back! read more

AI got us this time for our #saturday #abqrestaurants #review ! We were thinking gyros and were excited when a previously unreviewed restaurant popped up on the list. When we pulled up to @gyroshackusa shack we were a little concerned because it was located in a fast food establishment but we rolled with it and were quite pleased! It also helped that the woman who walked in with us was an enthusiastic repeat customer! The dining room and bathrooms were clean and the staff were all super friendly! We sat in the dining room (perhaps a previous White Castle) and were served in paper bags . Here's where we were surprised... Tucked into the bag were mints and some kind of sweet cookie (I have taste it again tomorrow!). I ordered the traditional gyro while hubby ordered the falafel with Greek fries, and both were fresh and delicious. Gave the Gyro Shack a try today for a late 130pm workday lunch run. I went inside to order and got such a nice friendly greeting. I said I had not been a customer before and the host quickly explained the menu options. I selected an Original Combo with hummus as my side. I waited less than 3 minutes before my order was handed to me (with a smile & thank you) in a brown paper bag with a nice blue Gyro Shack logo. The drive back to my office was tough with all the yummy aroma coming from the bag. Back at my desk, I opened the bag to find my gyro wrapped with attention to detail to hold in the heat and in two layers so that the gyro could be eaten cleanly by hand. The gyro was toasty warm with well seasoned meat along with fresh, crisp white onions and flavorful tomato wedges. The Tzatziki sauce was tasty and while I could have used a touch more of it, it more than lasted to the last bite. And the pita had the right fluffy texture holding it all together - score! The hummus side was smooth and had an extra tang of lemon that I really liked. I could make a meal of just that. And as an extra surprise, they included a yummy lemon cookie. Such a nice gesture and a good sign of wanting to take care of their customers! I will be back soon to try a Deluxe Gyro or a Greek salad and their limited time offered Lemon Chicken Rice Soup...one of my fav Greek dishes. And more hummus too. Opa! read more

Went here for the 1st time a few weeks ago; overall, the deluxe gyro was 'ok,' along with a greek side salad, baklava and a cookie. The desserts were delicious, while the gyro was cold. Salad was good. I'm not sure what I was expecting; overall, it was OK, but I feel it should be better, given the price ($19 for everything).
