Feta Greek Friesfries
Destiny L.

This spot is super close to my house so I've been wanting to check it out for a minute. I love a good gyro and so stop by for lunch one day. I ordered the option that had bacon as well as some feta fries. The red sauce was a bit of an overkill, it seemed to have been added last and just kind of soaked the bread. I will say my favorite part was the fries, they were absolutely fantastic. The gyro was a little hard to eat and pretty messy overall. I think maybe next time I would skip the sauce or just ask for light spice. I will also know that their drive-through is not functional, it is a go inside only option kind of place. it wouldn't hurt to take down some of the drive-through signage unless they are planning on opening that up eventually.

These prices we were charged were more than the menu said it would be. (My wife caught it and went up to complain and got $5 back.)
Tommy P.

That was unfortunate. Okay, the Gyro Shack menu says so much for a combo and so much for a sandwich but no explanation. What's a combo? Oh, it's a sandwich plus one of these things. Okay, I'll take this sandwich, combo with this side. My wife does the same thing. Give over the credit card, no numbers displayed on our side of the register until the total. The $36.15 price for two sandwiches, two sides and a drink sounds okay, if high (the place is expensive for a "fast" food), what do I care? Okay. Throw a $5 into the tip basket for a one-minute counter encounter. No thank you. Well, my wife wants to see the receipt; determines we've been overcharged. Goes back up. Spends the next (I'm not exaggerating) five minutes determining that _some_ sides have an upchage on the combo and getting a refund. Okay. Food is as slow to come out as it was in the Lotaburger this place used to be. Okay. At least we have the overly loud commercial radio (more commercials than radio) to keep us company. And the fruit flies that are for some reason cruising around and landing on us and our table (later, our food). Atmosphere is like a fast food burger place in a notso-hotso location - a variety of booths, overly loud radio blaring. My order is called. Counterperson is irritated with me (I suppose because my wife made them re-ring the order to take off the side with the exorbitant upcharge); sure glad I gave her a fin for the minute it took to ring in our order. Gives me everything "to go" in a bag - um, we're eating here. No drinks - Um, what about our drinks, Miss? Gives me the two waters. No napkins - um, may I have some napkins, Miss? She's irritated. Take it back to the table. My wife says she had an iced tea! She did. She paid for it! Argh. She says the heck with it. Fine; whatever gets us out of here fastest. Okay, we eat. The food's actually pretty tasty. Pitas are fresh, meat is generous and not overcooked. Condiments and extras are interesting and in appropriate proportions. (I had a Super Gyro with hummus; wife had an original gyro and canceled her feta and olive bowl because of the undisclosed upcharge. Never got the tea she ordered and paid for.) Music's still blaring. Fruit flies are still fruit-flying. Landing on our hands while we eat. We eat fast and get up to leave. I holler "Thank you" and wave on the way out. Workers look up but no response. I had a bad time at my supper at this Gyro Shack and doubt I'll return. I appear to be in a minority: People were streaming in the whole time, and the drive-through was full. They are highly reviewed here on Yelp. They clearly don't need our business and they evidently don't care about being accurate or even polite to us. Shook the dust from my feet in the parking lot . . . Service (rude and inaccurate): 1 out of 5 Value (Cali pricing for good but not great food in a dumpy environment: 2/5 Food quality: 4/5 Overall: 2

I was soooo excited to try this brand new place out and man it was absolutely delicious. I got a Philly gyro with green chile and ranch instead of tzatziki and it was fresh, warm, and amazingly delicious. The chile was super fresh and spicy good. The pita was soft and pillowy. The cheese was melty and hit the comfort food spot. I ordered a combo and got the Lemon Orzo soup as my side. It was just as good as the gyro. I also got some white chocolate lemon cookies. I'm telling you, I ate like a queen. The atmosphere is wonderful. It's very family oriented and the owners were super friendly. I love that it has a drive thru also. I cannot recommend this place enough. I will definitely be back to try everything on the menu. Cheers!

I have been twice and everything is always great. This place is quickly becoming a go to for me for a quick meal. Meat is good and service has been great.

What a gem this is! The excellent service and good fast-food keeps people coming back. They are busy! We got the regular gyro. The pita was fresh and soft. Plenty of tasty meat. The tzatziki was delicious as well. Please note, there is no way to leave a tip on the register; cash only. There are plenty of other options to try. I will be going back!

Ordered on line. Gyro was so salty as to be almost inedible. Cost was ok, but not for something you can't eat. I won't be back.

Music was too loud and the food was ok - not like the place on Montgomery that closed but had much better gyros.

Apparently they didn't have hummus even though the menu showed it available, which is fine these things happen but they didn't let me know ahead of time; they just told the driver when he came and asked him to ask me if I wanted to replace it with a slice of pie. I tried to message the driver back but he was already on the way 3 minutes after the message. I called the restaurant, they had someone answer the phone who doesn't speak English and only speaks Spanish. I mean, I think the phone rep speaking English is definitely not a bad idea when your customers speak English, but let's put that aside, I happen to know a little rusty Spanish so I spoke to him and I told him I didn't order desert on purpose , but he can send extra of an item I already did order , he said it was too late and just hung up on me. The food got here and the tabouli was awful, worst I've ever had. The dolmas tasted canned, the Greek salad was barely eatable , the garlic dip was more like a garlic mash, and everything tasted like it went bad and was sitting out for hours

I remember hitting this place up at least once a week for the lobo super gyro. The staff always welcoming. The place was like a living time capsule. Nothing was different from what I'd remembered other than a flat screen in the dining area which I absolutely loved. Well spoiler alert you already know what I went in for. That's right, the lobo gyro! I made it a combo with the fries and a refreshing Pepsi. It's not often I drink soda but I figured it was a special occasion. The meal was out fairly quickly. I was so eager to get my food I found myself almost grabbing the wrong order when I heard the staff call out a number. I really should've read the receipt! Lol The gyro was just as I'd remembered. I had that Harold and Kumar moment when they finally got White Castle. This was my White Castle. I savored every bite. The meat so juicy, and seasoned well combined with the sauce and onions, it was heavenly. The fries of course were the perfect encore to a delicious dinner. It goes without saying I'll definitely be back. My only complaint is the parking situation. They got rid of the lot behind the restaurant unfortunately. Now it belongs to an apartment complex. Sadly that area has joined the downtown trend of paid parking. Free parking is quickly becoming a mythical thing of the past.

What was even better was the taste of both the Gyro and the feta fries. As you can see from the photo the Gyro was stuffed full of meat and other goodies while the feta fries were plentiful and all covered with sauce and seasonings. Absolutely delicious. I can't comment on the ambience because I got delivery, as usual. But the delivery went smoothly, and as stated above, the presentation of the food was stellar. I also had a second order from them about six weeks later that I ordered with several friends. Again, the food's presentation was appealing, and the food was great. My friends also indicated that their salad and Mediterranean sampler were delicious. I will definitely be ordering from them again, and I don't think you'll be disappointed if you do the same.

We arrived a few minutes after noon on a Saturday and were promptly seated. Our waitress took drink orders and returned to answer our questions and take our orders. We shared tastes around. I found the rice interesting, but prefer more savory when accompaniment to an entree. The marinated lamb for the kebab was outstanding and the meat cooked perfectly. I even tried the hummus which to my surprise was very good. I do not as a rule enjoy chick peas, but this mix was delightful. The restaurant itself carried the desired theme, even offering traditional low seating for those who wish that feeling. Solid five stars. I'd give extra to the wait staff for how they dealt with the chronic complainer at the next table, if Yelp would allow that extra. Dorothea's is a nice white table cloth restaurant that feels upscale but still homey enough to bring our soon to be 2 yo grandson. We had: Steamed clams 5/5: The clams were prepared, presented and flavored well. There were 2 clams that didn't open so it would have been nice if they just removed them instead of tempting us to pry them open (which would be bad clams) but the other clams were so good we wanted to open them! The sauce was a little too wine-y for me but I can see how some people would enjoy dipping the bread they give you into it. Crab mac and cheese 5/5: Wow. The bechamel sauce was so rich and creamy! Good chunks of crab made this mac and cheese so decadent! Greek salad 4/5: This was fresh and tasty but I was a little surprised by how small the salad was considering all the other dishes have such an amazing price point! It would serve once person well. Lobster pasta 5/5: Nice spicy kick that hits you later. Good chunks of lobster and the pasta was so light! I forgot to ask if it was fresh pasta or not. Maybe a question for our next visit! Niko gyro 5/5: the meat was good but what made it amazing was all those nice shoestring fries on top! The fries also had some kind of spicy pepper on top that gives it the extra kick! Traditional gyro 4/5: This was just your traditional gyro with fries. It's good but it doesn't seem fancy! Overall I love this place! The price point is amazing and if we have the time I would definitely like to come again with the family. My favorite were the little neck clams, lamb lollipop, and Greek plate. The Saganaki, crab stack, and tiropita were just okay. Lamb Shank: This was one of the best entrees ordered. The meat was fall apart tender and flavorful. The orzo was a little watery but was cooked to the correct doneness. Branzino: I assumed that this would be a whole branzino fish but they had already taken it apart which was nice. However, there were a couple of bones that were missed. Crab Mac: This was cheesy and very good. My only grip is that the pasta was a little overcooked. Service: 5 The servers were patient with all the questions and orders from a big group.
