Grecian Cave caught my eye because I have a soft spot for hole in the wall diners. They have a…read morecharm that sometimes acts almost like a time machine to another era of culinary experiences. And at first, that's what Grecian Cave offered. It has bar seating at a counter that runs along the length of the restaurant's seating area with some tables on the side. The menu on the wall has plastic letters fitted into slots. No LCD here! From a pure "setting" perspective this place has old charm to spare. That's about where the charm ends. Wanting to get something healthy, I ordered the Greek Salad with grilled chicken. A lady took my order and at first all seemed fine. She was masked and seemed to be cleaning/organizing the area behind the counter. Then the (guy who I presume to be) the cook came out from the back. Dude had a mask on, which was comfortably wrapped around his chin. She told him my order and he set out to rinse his hands...for about 10 seconds. Then he moved on to begin making my salad: with his bare hands. He pulled out a quarter head of lettuce and began rough chopping it, seemingly ensuring to make sure his hands got on as much of the lettuce as possible. I stopped him and asked him if he could put on gloves. He muttered something to the lady and gave me a look of disgust. He searched for gloves (which in itself was disturbing) and reluctantly put a pair on. I asked him to dispose of the lettuce he had chopped and I sat closer to watch him work. It was at that moment I heard him muttering something about me in Spanish to the lady (I may not be fluent, but the word "Chino" and his grumbling attitude didn't require Masters in Romance Languages to understand). Eventually the salad was put together, but honestly I was so grossed out at that point I didn't even eat it. I paid, took it to go and tossed it. I would strongly recommend against visiting this place. There are plenty of other eateries in the area.

I paired them with chipotle mayo instead of the honey mustard, and well as the saganaki balls. The mixed grilled is always a winner. Service was great, very attentive. Very cute interior. I'm seeing many 3-4 star reviews from fellow Yelpers and I keep thinking that perhaps my experience…read morewas a singular one. The two stars I'm giving here is for the restaurant itself. This restaurant looks great. There is a nice counter area to order, a really nice seating area inside and even outdoor seating. Some of the decor makes you feel like you're in a household's kitchen. By the cashier there is a table you can wait at complete with local newspapers. It's very charming. This was my first visit and I ordered my food to go. I had two key dishes. The first was hummus with falafel, which is very standard for me whenever I go to any Mediterranean place. When I opened the take out box at home I was really surprised. Most places give you a good amount of hummus, but here it was basically a thin layer. Kind of like a layer of mayo on a sandwich (maybe a tad thicker). Then on top of the hummus was a huge layer of pickled vegetables and tiny pickles. This was a surprise. I've had hummus orders from a lot of restaurants before and I've *never* seen this on an order before. Then the falafel balls were on top and well...they were really dry and didn't have much flavor. Now, sometimes you can cover that up by just coating the falafel in hummus, but there wasn't enough hummus to do that. The dish was just disappointing all around. The other dish I tried were the Lemon Potatoes. They were good! The lemon flavor was strong and they were cooked well. Not the best example in the area, but they would do in a pinch. At some point I'll give this place another try. Maybe this was a fluke (at least I hope so).
