We are their first ever customer!

Apparently we were their first customers and they'd just opened! The welcome was very friendly and the chicken gyro pittas were delicious and sizable. Baklava tasty as was the other dessert whose name I forget. I think I saw pictures and decoration about to go up which will complete the place. All the best gentlemen!

Lamb gyro stuffed to the gills.

Roommate was in glens falls and I asked him to pick me up a little something. I got a gyro - it was awesome. They said The sauce was tzatziki but I think they use white sauce. They're not the same. I did ask for the sauce on the side and extra sauce. They put the sauce on the gyro. They did use a lot but I did want it on the side for a reason as I knew I wouldn't be able to eat it all and sauce on a sandwich you can't eat the same day can make it soggy. This sandwich was stuffed to the gills. It had lamb and lettuce and cucumbers. I thought I asked for tomatoes but there are no tomatoes on it. It was so stuffed every time I ate it a piece of meat would fall in my Yorkie was very happy. It was so stuffed I couldn't eat it all and I had the rest just now for breakfast and it was an awesome breakfast. I also got a lemonade which was large and is in the fridge cuz I couldn't eat everything last night. I also got baklava which was awesome. I do not know what the inside is like. The items were all wrapped very well and traveled very well. I will definitely be going again. I am curious why I can eat gyros and I can't eat all the other Mediterranean food there's a spice that is not in gyros that's in the other stuff that my stomach hates even though I love all the spices.

Traveling within about 5 minutes on the way to visit a good friend, and it happened to be right around lunch time, the opportunity finally came. It's a casual place, lots of 2 and 4 top tables, but what caught my eye when we went in was the cooler full of amazing side options. Then you look up and there's a beautiful oven and a dough station. This is looking great. We sat and ordered lamb kebab and doner kebab. A couple minutes later, a large (~11x17?) wooden tray appeared with a piping hot lavash bread and a plate of dill yogurt sauce. If the meal had stopped there, I would have been a happy camper. We had just had a few pieces when the kebab arrived, each with a pepper, tomato, some red cabbage, and onion. Both meats were authentic and delicious. My favorite way to eat my doner was with a bit of the bread, a bit of the dill sauce, some onion and cabbage, and a bunch of meat - a mini gyro, if you will. We took away about 1/3 of the generous portions and ordered a large mixed plate (all 10 of the sides) and baklava to take to our friend. It's a bit of a drive for us, but any time we're anywhere close, we're going to be back for sit down (if it's mealtime) or takeaway if it's not. I highly recommend you do the same.

The place feels much more modern and inviting now. Our family especially enjoys the beyti kebab, the güveç, and their pide. I haven't tried the pizza yet, but since their pide is very good, I imagine the pizza would also be solid. For me though, the real highlight at Alibaba is the mezze. In Turkish cuisine, grilled meats and kebabs are almost always enjoyed with a variety of mezze. They might technically be sides, but they're a big part of the whole experience. These days there are several Turkish kebab places in the area, but none of them offer a wide selection of fresh, house-made mezze like Alibaba does. At many places you're lucky if you find one or two options, often just a basic ezme. At Alibaba you'll find around ten different mezze and each one tastes distinct and freshly made. Every time I tell myself I'll just take a little... and somehow I end up filling a big mezze plate. Honestly, even when we grill at home, our motivation is picking up mezze from Alibaba to go with it. I'm not sure if it gets the credit it deserves, but don't skip the mezze here -- you'd be missing out. In fact, start with the mezze and figure out the rest later :))

Our waiter was super attentive and even though it took some time for the food to come out, I think given the quality of everything we ate, it was worth it. I got the raspberry mint mojito cocktail which was delicious and I pinched a sip or two of kid's lemonade made from fresh lemons, perfect level of sweetness. We tried the sweet potato pakoras and lumpia and the trio of house made dips (we liked the green mint-e one best). Everything was tasty, including the sauces that came up with them. Our kids shared the ramen which they split into two large bowls that didn't even look like a split dish given how much it was. My wife got the spare ribs which melted off the bones and had great flavor. The scallop dish I ordered came with six scallops that were a good size and also came with some gnocci, a delicious and unique sauce, and an unusual lobster with veggie type of ceviche salad accoutrement. I have the sense that the menu changes regularly here. The chef/owner came out and greeted us after the meal to ask how everything was and we could honestly respond that it was our best meal of the week. Subsequently we tried to sample many items from their desert menu and again Bastard did not disappoint. Surprisingly the "S'Mores," a more adult take on the kid's classic, was one of our favorites. Given the unique take on a variety of globally inspired dishes and great attention to detail, I would love to try Bastard again the next time I'm in the area.

The open kitchen makes the whole experience so fun, and you will feel the passion from everyone working there... We started with the lumpia, which was simple and delicious, with a dipping sauce that had the perfect spicy kick. For entrees, hubby had his favorite, short ribs with frenched onion and I had my fav, Pad Thai -- both were bursting with flavor and beautifully balanced. Dessert was Asian crème brûlée, which was creamy, light, and a perfect finish. Our cocktails hand made by Phil were delicious, the food was outstanding, and the atmosphere they have created is warm, upbeat, and genuine. Every dish felt thoughtfully made, and the staff there truly seems happy to be doing what they do and told us so. They love working with Shannon and Phil. This is our #1 favorite dining experiences in downtown Glens Falls. Pictures show Shannon hard at work!
