My husband and I were recently vacationing in Lake Bomoseen Vt. On our final evening we decided on dinner at the Fair Haven Inn. From the moment we walked onto the front porch, adorned with various floral and greenery, we knew it was special. Inside we were greeted by the proprietress, Mihaela, and ushered into a beautiful Victorianesque table overlooking the porch. Overhead fairy lights throughout the dining area lent an elegant and romantic feel throughout. The meal was fabulous; my lamb in the Greek style was delicious as was my husbands chicken Marsala. I would HIGHLY recommend this spot for any fine dining experience and/or special occasion 10/10 stars!!

1st time here, i thought the food and service were top notch. Appetizers were very good, we had the calamari and hummus platter. Our meals were delicious, i had the fettuccine alfredo with grilled chicken, my wife had the scallops. Other couple had the mussels fra diavolo, it looked awsm. Owner was very nice, informed us she is having serious help related issues, no one wants to work. We would go back.

I never expected to find a fine dining Greek restaurant in Fair Haven; especially a family-owned and staffed restaurant open 50+ years. The staff is friendly and attentive. The facility is very well maintained. Both of meals were excellent. The kebabs were expertly prepared and very flavorful. So happy that the seafood platter was broiled, not deep fried. The service was a teeny bit slow-ish to get started, but COVID staffing is still a thing. The food arrived promptly. Hot food, hot. Cold food, cold. There is a large outdoor porch that would be an excellent place to enjoy a before or after dinner drink ... if only more people wanted to work. I have only two minor quibbles: - A tad dark for my aging eyes. - The music volume when combined with the five (loud) children at the adjacent table and my aging hearing, made conversation at our table a bit difficult. Shame on me for not noticing when we were seated and requesting quieter seating. - The local IPA beer, not good enough ... and I would have preferred it being served colder and in a chilled or frosted mug. I do not have any idea how the lovely Mihaela manages 14-hour days in heels!

A true Treasure I found in the middle of no where. Oh my Vermont buddies please don't get me wrong after a long drive finding this place was incredible. This is a Greek restaurant, in Vermont. I will start with the open buffet with so many food choices. And we ordered dinner Afterwards. One of us ordered (me) Salmon. It was sautéd with spinach and wrapped in crispy fillo dough - extremely delicious. Other scallops - gobbled down so fast and said oh man this is so good. My son ordered dinner but took turkey noodle soup before and loved it took another one. Could not finish his dinner. Food was very good. The ambience is great. It's must come place if you are here. The dessert tray and the fire place Oh boy. Good place The dessert tray

*24 hour update* I was stricken was absolutely awful gastric distress within 24 hours of eating here. Was it from their smelly mussels? I'll never know for sure, but it's certainly possible... It pains me to give such a low rating to The Fair Haven Inn, it really does. I almost feel like I'm betraying my family and community, as so many have been so loyal to this restaurant for many, many years. The sad fact is that the Fair Haven Inn is but a shadow of its former self ever since previous owners John (RIP) and Faith sold it several years ago, there's no denying it. It may not matter, as they have a dedicated, long-time client base that either doesn't know any better or is living in the past. Tonight's visit in summary: Ambiance: VERY quiet. This was expected as it's a mid-week after Labor Day. No reservations needed at all. We sat in the dining room, but the bar area was even quieter. You can sit in either side of the house and get the same food. Going inside the bar gives you certain specials, but you lose out on a couple niceties such as cloth napkins and hot towel service post-meal. Parking is plentiful and it's handicapped accessible. Service: We had a couple of different servers and they were both friendly and efficient. No complaints here. The appetizers and main courses can take a long time to come out, so expect that. Salads were brought out while we were still having appetizers, however they set them aside and came back later to serve when we were ready. The food: Mom got the moussaka, which she normally loves. This time, she said it was burnt and appeared like it had been reheated. She thinks they flipped the burnt top over and tried to hide it. But hey, she was hungry and ate most of it. She also didn't like her salad or her clams (which she said were rubbery and inedible). The waitress did comp a dessert for her but that's it. She should've complained more in my opinion, but she doesn't like to. The chocolate cake she had tasted stale. Of note, The dessert cart contents are entirely out in the open air and get stale as the night progresses. It's also not sanitary, as they'll pull things off the cart to show patrons and then put them back on. Dad had the Greek salad to start. It's pretty much exactly the same as the included house salad, so it amounts to a $5 up-charge for some feta cheese. He ordered his ribeye steak (a special of the day) "Pittsburgh style," and it only came out medium rare. He still enjoyed it and had some left to bring home. I ordered mussels in white wine & garlic to start off. The sauce tasted a bit "off," but all the mussels were opened up and I ate em! It was a very nice sized portion for $9.99, but it did have of an off odor and I question the freshness. My hands still smell as we speak. They'll give you a relish tray that's got sliced beets, chickpeas, and sometimes cottage cheese (none of the latter this time, fine by me). The chickpeas were edible, but drier than normal, lacking the marinade they used to have. The bread they bring out is enjoyable, the table easily went through 2 loaves. Nice Cabot butter is served with it. My ribeye steak was also ordered rare and was served a bit more cooked than that. I didn't taste much of the red wine demi-glaze it was purported to have, and it was fatty even for ribeye. The plate was easily half gristle and scraps. House salad was fresh, I enjoyed it. Dessert for me was the "last" piece of flourless chocolate torte. Like everything preceding, I ate it, but was hardly blown away. It tasted mass-produced, not made in house. Drinks: House Merlot was drinkable, a half carafe goes for $18.95. My vodka tonic was good, it had some liquor in it for sure, but the glass was small. I'm not sure of the price. Espresso wasn't bad and had a nice crema to it. The end result: Total bill after tip for 3 people was about $200! Hardly a value for the hard-earned money. If you come between 5 and 6 PM Monday-Saturday, you can get their lower priced "prudential menu," which they don't publish on their website. I wish we'd gotten here in time for it, as the prices are more in line with the product. The Fair Haven Inn used to be worth the "nice ride from anywhere," unfortunately it no longer is. The product simply isn't the same. For example, they used to serve cheesecake from the nuns of New Skete, now it tastes like it's from Sysco. Other than the steak, the food didn't taste fresh. Meanwhile, prices have gone up. I hate to say it, but drive the extra 15 minutes to Rutland, where you'll spend the same $ (or less) and enjoy true fine dining.

Honestly, I was hoping to have a soup of some type but there was none available on the menu so I opted for the chicken salad Sandwich (didn't seem a very Turkish fare), but it was good...although the Sandwich needed more chicken salad to offset the thick Texas toast; there really was very little on the Sandwich. My husband had their PLT, a sandwich that had more substance to it (there was more bacon on it than there was chicken on my sandwich)...but again, both sandwiches tasted good. To drink we tried a couple of their cocktails and while tasty and unique they were very speedy, $16 is far too much to charge for them...the price definitely prevented me from having another, and when we go back to have dinner...we probably will skip drinks (not worth $32 for two people.) Don't get me wrong, we aren't cheap people, we just want a good value...the drinks aren't that. Our server was great! He was friendly, helpful, and there when we needed him. Couldn't have asked for more from him. We did also have a hot appetizer. I forget the name of it now, it was $9 for 2, deep fried rolls (like egg rolls of a sort but with Philly dough and filled differently), these were very good...I could have eaten several, I wish I remembered what they were, but they are last on the list of hot appetizers so you can find them.

Last week, we decided to turn our date night into something special with dinner at this Turkish gem followed by a Broadway musical, Newsies, at the Flynn Center. We made a reservation in advance, as this spot is quite popular in the evenings - especially when there's a play happening nearby. The ambiance was inviting and warm, with soft lighting and traditional Turkish decor creating a perfect setting for a romantic evening. The service was exceptional, and our server, Alexandra B., made the experience even more memorable with his attentiveness and friendly demeanor. We started with the Small Meze Platter ($16.99), an excellent choice for sharing. The platter featured haydari, hummus, babaganoush, Turkish salsa, and stuffed grape leaves, all served with soft lavash bread. For those seeking a gluten-free option, fresh-cut veggie sticks are available. Each dip and spread was bursting with flavor, making this a must-try appetizer. For the main course, I chose from the Earthenware Casseroles and ordered the Lamb Guvec ($27.99). The tender, marinated lamb pieces combined with tomato, mushroom, onion, pepper, and eggplant were served sizzling hot, and the aroma alone was irresistible. It was hearty, flavorful, and paired perfectly with the recommended 9oz glass of Vinkara red wine ($16.50). My wife selected the Chicken Adana Kebab ($22.99) from the Traditional Kebabs menu. The mildly spicy, hand-ground chicken seasoned with Turkish maraş pepper and parsley was grilled to perfection and served with Turkish rice pilav, a side of greens, house pickled red cabbage, and marinated onions. She enjoyed every bite and complemented her meal with a 9oz glass of Ancyra white wine ($16.50), which was light and refreshing. To close the evening, we indulged in a classic Turkish dessert, Baklava ($9.99). The layers of fresh phyllo, walnuts, and crushed pistachios, finished with a simple syrup, were the perfect sweet ending to our meal. Istanbul Kebab House continues to impress with its excellent food, cozy ambiance, and impeccable service. Whether it's a casual dinner or a special occasion, this restaurant is a must-visit in Burlington. We'll definitely be back again!

Since the moment we sat down it felt like we were being rushed out of the place, we would take a last bite (or even have a few bites left of each dish) and a server would swoop in and clear our plate literally as I'd finish scooping a bite off of it. One time I had a plate under a piece of food (food that was from a separate plate the dish was originally served on) and the waiter came over and tried clearing thins and was like "can I get that one too" as if they were desperately relying on every single plate to get back to the kitchen ASAP. Very bizarre. I never had such a poor serving experience until this last visit this past week. Additionally, portion size and cost are still pushing the limits. $4 PER PITA. Give me a break. Half of the dishes we ordered need and/or do better with a pita and you're going to charge $4 per pita. Two people, two "main dishes" (salad and chicken wings - only 6 wings) and one side dish (muhammara), and one drink each... total of $150 (including tip) seems extremely extravagantly priced. I will reiterate - food is very flavorful, fresh, comes out hot, and would recommend highly if that's all the review was based upon. Unfortunately, everything else was sub par and I'm feeling let down by what used to be a total favorite place to eat. Womp womp.
