I hadn't expected that, but they're truly works of art. My favorite was the little downtown area with the Soldiers and Sailors Monument lit up with lights for Christmas. The trains rolled by plenty, and there was a nice flow to the exhibit. They kept activities and toys for the kids--magnatiles, coloring pages, train tables--in the back. Mini BFF loved that! There was also a scavenger hunt sheet, and my friend and I both found it challenging as adults! Much too old for young kids, though, I think. It got busy while we were there, which made enjoying the displays tough. It's a fairly small space so crowds aren't ideal. But we enjoyed ourselves and it was cool to see! Adults were $20 and kids 4 and under were free, so a decent value for the exhibit!

Jingle Rails is one of the few holiday experiences that my kids want to go to each year. They're…read moreolder kids now, so they have outgrown Santa, but no one outgrows miniature trains. This is a whimsical exhibit that, as of this writing, has been chugging along at the Eiteljorg Museum for 15 years now. You'll see mini electric trains choo-chooing above and below on more than 1,200 feet of railroad track. The trains meander through tunnels and past scenes of the Indianapolis skyline and the landmarks of the American West. This is an exhibit that rewards the people who look closely at things -- you'll see cool details and backdrops that are created out of natural materials. Jingle Rails is great for all ages, but younger kids will love it too because there's a play area at the back of the exhibit designed just for kids. You'll find train-themed toys, books, puzzles, Magna-Tiles and coloring pages, plus comfy chairs for the grown-ups. It's a nice place to say "yes" to touching things, when you have to say "no" so many times to touching the Jingle Rails trains and scenery. You know how it is, if you have young kids. The museum also provides an activity guide with an I Spy game, so kids can walk around and find all of the clues hidden around the exhibit. Take your completed I Spy game to the Eiteljorg museum store for a prize! Jingle Rails is included with museum admission. If you have kids with you, don't forget to check out the Family Education Center that's located downstairs. It's a hidden gem! It's a space designed for kids and families, with designated areas for pretend play and hands-on activities.

I was under the impression that the Skip + Alex Lange Innovation Center was for Boy Scouts and Girl…read moreScouts only, but no, it's open to the public! On Saturdays, day passes are available to the public, which are $20 and allow you in-and-out access all day. This center is located on the grounds of Camp Belzer, tucked near Ft. Harrison State Park in Lawrence. You'll find lots of fun, family-friendly activities for all ages, including a ropes course, rock climbing and bouldering walls, indoor archery, a makerspace, robotics and technology, and lots more. The ropes course (SkyTrail Air Adventure Course) has 10 different obstacles all connected and suspended 9 feet in the air. Kids must be at least 42 inches tall to go on the course with an adult, and 48 inches or taller to go on the course alone. The ropes course is only open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Lange has two rock climbing walls. The main rock climbing wall features seven lanes for climbing, each lane with four paths to the top that increase in difficulty. The north tower rock wall, with three lanes and three options to get to the top, offers a view out into the camp from the windows. They also have a bouldering wall and bouldering cave. The bouldering cave allows kids to climb around and practice different rock climbing holds freely, but each climber must wear a helmet. Assistants stand by, ready to catch or help each kid. There's also a makerspace room, where kids can learn about and try out different technology, including robots and drones. Here, you can fly drones or make robots move on command using a tablet, make robots move along a path using special markers, and lots more. The room also includes space to try out 3D printing and laser-cutting, tinker with toys, and get hands on while learning about technology and science. Some of the activities change out weekly, and that includes some of the sports. When we visited, they had an indoor badminton court set up, but the week before, that area was designated for indoor archery. There was also a basketball shooting area, cornhole and velcro darts. Drop-ins are welcome at Lange Innovation Center, but the center can also be rented for groups, such as Scouts, clubs and schools. So, calling ahead and reserving a time is highly recommended.

the best school my child ever attended!! The teachers were amazing 10/10 highly recommendread more

My child has been going to this daycare since he was 4 months old, and we are still here 1.5 years…read morelater. It's been a great experience for our family! -Staff are genuinely caring and kind. They all know our child's name, greet us, smile and wave when people come and go, etc. Management has always been really nice and diligent. We have found the staff to be very trustworthy and thoughtful. -The teachers use an app to provide regular updates and pictures throughout the day, which is great (ex: times of meals and diaper changes, nap lengths, fun activity/craft updates, etc.). -We like the structured format and rules that come with sending our kid to a bigger daycare/company. There are quality standards and rules in place that seem to help keep things running smoothly, and with kids, that's huge. -All meals and snacks are healthy and included in the costs, diapers are provided on site and included in the costs, etc. -For a modest additional fee, our child does yoga every week and loves it! Every few months there are fun new activities around holidays in the day, and sometimes after hours events like family picnics and movie nights. -The caregivers and rooms change by age (about every 9 months it seems), which seems pretty standard. But I like that my child has a cohort of other kids the same age who he moves along with to the different rooms over time, and I value the diversity of all the classes so far. -We really loved the infant classroom - the 2 lead teachers run a tight ship, and we always felt like our child was in great hands. As our kid has moved to the toddler stage/rooms, things change but he is equally happy and delighted by the staff, and well-adjusted. Why not 5 stars? -I do not love the middle toddler room space; it's cramped and stuffy. I hope they can find some ways to remedy that or cut back on the number of people in the room at once. Otherwise, the facility is generally comfortable, clean, and well-maintained. -There is some room/caregiver changeover, and that can be confusing. I think that's more to adjust based on capacity at drop-off vs. pick up times. Sometimes I have a hard time keeping up with some of the teacher names and faces though (they do have a nice board in the front lobby showing who everyone is). Other info: -If any incident happens (such as 1 toddler biting another), they report it to you, document it, and come up with an action plan for how to handle if it continues. We have found the staff to be very responsive to any concerns that have come up (note: this doesn't happen frequently though). -There are few and far decent day cares on the east side, but we think this is a good option. It's also close to a Walgreens, Target/Post shopping centers, and several pediatrician options, so there are a few things nearby if you need them. -Another review mentioned drama but that hasn't been my experience at all. Maybe it varies by age/classroom, or maybe things have changed under the new director?
