The teachers here are experienced and fantastic. And they have a performing group just for boys! We love TDR.

Five star dance studio in Greenwood was one of the best parts of preparing for my wedding. My…read morehusband and I were at very different skill levels and Jeff did such an amazing job at working with us as a team, helping us navigate the best way to support each other on the dance floor. Until these lessons my Husband and I could not dance together. The way we are able to connect on and off that dance floor now is all thanks to Jeff''s help. This experience is worth every single penny. The lessons are incredibly fun, the staff is talented and encouraging. I can't recommend this experience enough, honestly. My husband and I took these lessons for our first Dance for our wedding- which was incredibly wowing- but received so much more. Now our first dance was beautiful. Jeff made sure it was elegant and exactly what we wanted. It brought our family to tears watching us on the dance floor for our first dance, to be honest the experience was better than I could have ever imagined. We've been compared to a Prince and princess the way we moved. Thank you Five star Dance. You will always hold a special place in my heart.

He in the 3 to 4 lessons I have taken has shown patience and works always on making sure that you not only grow in how you dance but makes it fun as well. He does not rush you and gives you his undivided attention. Thank you to the other dance instructors who also put time into you during the group dances they do. I love Five Star Dance Studio and they definitely get a 5 star rating from me. Jeanette

This is my daughter's 4th year at Inspire and we could not be happier. We've been to other studios…read moreand she has grown leaps & bounds here. My daughter loves dancing here & loves all the students & staff here. Everyone is so supportive of each other. It's very family friendly. All costumes & music are age appropriate (no mid-drifts). At the recital all students get a T-shirt and an award based on the number of years they've danced. But they also give awards to competitive & recital students who have shown hard work & positive attitude, etc and they earn a discount on classes for the next year. Most studios IF they offer this only offer it to competitive program. I danced as a kid & my daughter has been to another studio as well. Every studio we've been to you pay the same monthly price from August through the end of the school year. The months that there are breaks offset the months there are 5 weeks in a month. However, At Inspire we don't pay in June and you still have rehearsals for 2 weeks in June. They also offer fundraisers throughout the year for students to go toward recital fees, costumes, etc. One thing that I would like to add is how a studio responds in times of uncertainty. They've always offered that if you need to miss a class you can take a makeup class in another class. Whenever the studio closes for weather etc, they always offer makeups. But how they responded during COVID-19 was exceptional! They offered new google classes each week for the kids to continue to learn & then also offered an extra zoom class essentially for free to get some interaction with other students and a teacher. I have friends whose dances studios cancelled their recital classes and their recital, leaving parents with a costume they paid for and never getting to wear. While at the time of this post, Inspire is still trying to work the recital out as restrictions have not been lifted. Trista has let parents know that she will still try to have some kind of recital program for the kids within state guidelines. She sent out surveys to parents and is taking their suggestions and concerns into account to try to make plans what is best for everyone. I'm so thankful for the extra work Trista is putting in & the compassion & dedication that she always shows. We are so happy we came to Inspire, so much so, that we've had several family members that have now followed us to Inspire. They are even driving past other studios & driving 30 minutes just to dance here with us!

My daughter is entering her 3rd year of dance here, and we couldn't be more pleased with the studio…read moreor its instructors. The studio is not-for-profit, so they keep class prices low (a 45-minute class is $44/month, and there are discounts when you add classes). The instructors are excellent in technique and teaching, and they also have a real heart for their students. Dance numbers are age appropriate, and costumes are all stylish yet modest (no exposed midriffs or anything too sexy for the littles). I appreciate that they consider that and want our children to enjoy dance without forcing them to grow up too quickly. They also encourage leadership skills among the older dancers, so some of them volunteer to help teach in the younger classes. I also love the time that's taken to work with the students. My daughter is in one of the youngest dance classes, and her instructor, Miss Trista, had to miss class the week before recital, so we had a sub. Trista wanted to make sure the girls got a full rehearsal before recital, so she scheduled another day for our class to come in and practice with her. I mean, they're the littles who honestly end up getting on stage and are so dazzled by the crowd that they may or may not remember a single step, but Trista took the extra time to give the girls a chance to really shine, and that spoke volumes about her love for her students. After the recital, every kid got an award based on how long they'd been dancing with the studio (even the first-years), and awards were given out for Most Improved Technique, Best Attitude, and the 110% Award (for a student having a great class even when he/she was having a bad day). Again, this studio encourages great attitudes and a great heart in addition to great dancing, and I adore that. A previous review mentioned that you still pay the full price for months with spring/fall breaks when the studio closes, but over the course of a school year, it averages out with the 5-week months that you end up with an extra week of classes. We also don't pay for June at all, which is recital month. If you miss a class, you are always welcome to attend another for a make-up (and there are plenty to choose from). I can't say enough good things about this studio, and I love to see how much they've grown since we started two years ago!

I've got a couple friends who regularly have exhibits in shows at The Garfield Park Arts Center,…read morehowever, since I live in Lawrence I simply don't get down this way as often. I really should. The Garfield Park Arts Center, like the park itself, falls under Indy Parks. Originally built in 1922 as the "Community House," it was designed to look like a picnic shelter with enclosed walls, high ceilings, and fireplaces at each end. In 1930, a large swimming pool was located in the area that is now the parking lot. At that time, it was primarily used as a locker room and rec center area. In 1990, the pool was removed and replaced by the Aquatic Center that is now located at the Burrello Family Center. In 2006, the "Community House" was remodeled with a $2.7 million grant. It became the Garfield Park Arts Center. The 8,000 square foot facility now houses a multi-use performing arts space, exhibition hall, visual and production arts classrooms, a recording studio, a literary arts library, and a rehearsal room. The GPAC is big enough that it typically has multiple exhibits going. For example, right now there's a modern quilting show, a solo show by Jay Hamm, and a show by Christy Harp. GPAC hosts a variety of workshops and classes including current activities like voice and piano lessons, ceramics, and quite a few visual arts options including those specifically for children. The classes are way affordable - for example, there's a $10 rock painting class for kids. As someone who has a pet rock, I'm all for rock painting. GPAC also hosts summer camps and special events. The calendar is on their website. I'm particularly enchanted by a classic movie night. They've also assisted with some of the public art in Garfield Park. The art center tends to be open limited hours - for example, 1-5pm during the week. It does participate in First Fridays. I'm a big fan of Garfield Park and I'm a big fan of having access to the arts. I find this facility to be quite accessible and even more after their 2006 renovation. It's not perfect (no building of this age is), however, it's quite good. Prices are affordable and the center itself has a nice combination of nostalgia with contemporary comforts. Especially for those with kids who may enjoy the classes, GPAC is a definite winner.

The class was small to, so you will receive one on one attention if needed. The gallery was also a nice experience before the class.

Fred Astaire has a reputation and like all things there are two sides to it. On the one side that…read morethey want you to see, they are knowledgeable about all the dance styles. Their events are mostly well thought out and they bring a showman's flair to the things they do well. Then, there is the other side that they don't want you to see. They are really about the money. They will swear it's about the art and the dancing. They play favorites depending on who spends the most. They can't even have a simple costume contest without politics getting involved. Do you really think they won't hesitate to rig competitions when there's thousands of dollars pouring in? That's all they care about: the money. They smile phony smiles and get to know you just enough to know what you need to hear to keep you spending more money. They'll lie and manipulate and gaslight you into believing you'll have the time of your life at one of their competitions because that's where the owners and teachers really rake in the money. So, be warned: the owners are career showbiz people and prioritize profits over personal or artistic integrity. They are teaching their employees their same tactics. They've lost what it means to truly dance from the heart and disgrace what Fred Astaire stood for as a dancer. They would be good for a singular event like a newlywed dance or a father/ daughter dance. I'd highly recommend against a long term commitment. I guarantee after two months of a six month contract that your teacher will start to push you to compete because "it will be good for your dancing." Now, you have to ask yourself what you're really paying for: genuine growth, connection and joy in dance or just the illusion of it accented with a few stickers and cheap plastic trophies, bought at a premium? No thank you. I want my trophies earned not bought with money or played out by favoritism, perceived or otherwise.
