What a fun concept! Came here as a part of "Class Pass" for the 305 class. Everyone was welcoming and there was even free parking available downtown (what a treasure!) The 305 class was great as it included cardio and a little bit of planking/abs. I have heard some of the other classes are not necessarily a great workout since you spend most of the time learning choreo, but this class was basically Zumba. The instructor, Jill, was very high energy and welcoming--give that lady a raise! The facilities felt a little outdated, but I think it's a great value if you are a regular member for the $125/month for unlimited classes. read more

I love DanceWorks! They really have a fantastic set up with their various rooms and dance class offerings. I did on a month-long unlimited, pass at a silent auction, and happily won that prize. I wanted to maximize my win, so I ended up taking a lot of classes that DanceWorks offers. Here are my thoughts: Cardio Hip hop: great for any and every level dancer. Exercise focused. K-pop: be prepared to pick up choreography, and two sequential Wednesday classes equates to one whole K-pop song routine. SWERK: picture Zumba with Twerking. Exercise focused. Great for any and every level. Ballet for absolute beginners: a very simplified, slow, basic educational course. Required for taking beginner ballet. Beginner ballet: ballet for absolute beginners will not teach you everything you need to know for this class. I'm not sure there is any way to be ready for this class. Just know you are going to feel very left behind, and sort of like an idiot for a few classes until you can catch up. But who cares? Unfortunately, I got walking pneumonia after taking all those classes, so I wasn't able to try everything they offered. However, I'd say Cardio Hip Hop was my favorite! read more

Finally!!!! So thankful that Indy now has its first adult dance studio. There have always been occasional classes offered for adults throughout the city, but this studio offers a plethora of different styles and levels for both beginners and those who have danced their whole lives each week. They offer everything: ballet, ballet technique, jazz, tap, contemporary, hip hop, popping, and Swerk (like a fun twerk/zumba combo). I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the ballet classes. The teachers have great technique and pointers for everyone, but they're also not scary or insanely intense (and if you've done ballet your whole life, you know what I mean). They understand that the goal isn't to be a professional tomorrow, but that everyone wants to continue learning and have the outlet. My favorite class I've taken here is jazz, where you'll stretch, do across the floor, and then learn a combo to a pop song. There's advanced and beginner jazz, and if you've danced before, I recommend taking advanced. The owner is super nice and friendly, as are all the teachers and everyone in the classes. You can buy dance class packages that are reasonably priced, and there's free parking in the back or metered parking in front. Enjoy! read more

So grateful I creeped on Niki B.'s Instagram stories and saw she attended the opening weekend of DanceWorks Indy, a studio offering ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary, Swerk and more for adults! This is a studio full of people who did dance at one time in their life (or maybe never) and are looking to get back into it (or try it out for the first time). I never did dance classes, but I did show choir and through that experience learned some jazz and tap. When I saw they offered a musical theatre class, I KNEW I had to check it out. Michael is a fabulous instructor! He walked us through a warm-up and a light combo and then we learned choreography to Broadway tunes. My jazz shoes saw the light of day for the first time since 2012 and I couldn't be happier. I'm bummed it's downtown and I work and live up in Carmel but I want to try to come here a few times a month as my schedule allows! I signed up for the grand opening promotional deal at DanceWorks which was 5 classes for $50 and had a really pleasant experience! Unfortunately, I was extremely busy for the several weeks immediately after the deal was activated, and since it expired after exactly 90 days I didn't get to use one of the classes which was a bummer. I ended up taking a few Swerk classes and one musical theater class. My favorite thing about DanceWorks is the welcoming atmosphere and the timing of the classes offered. 9am Saturday Swerk worked great for me plus conveniently just blocks from my apartment. Musical theater was a super fun change of pace coming from someone who was never a theater kid in high school but wishes I was. I do wish that they could advertise what musical was being featured before the class, so I knew whether it would fit my style/tastes. Unfortunately the regular pricing for a membership is not within my budget at the moment. That, and I find that the cardio dance classes at the YMCA are equally as welcoming and the choreography is much more aerobic than what I experienced at DanceWorks. read more

What a cool new space! This is such a fun concept and a great workout. I recently took a "Swerk it" class and it really took me back to my days as a kid taking dance lessons! The best part is that it was a KILLER cardio workout, but way more fun than the treadmill. They offer a variety of classes including ballet, tap, hip hop, etc. The instructors were super helpful, and I really enjoyed the fun upbeat music. I'll definitely be back! I took my first formal dance class in 22 years tonight. I had a blast. Now, I may have pulled a muscle or something because I forgot I wasn't 18 anymore, but I still had so much fun and really can't wait to go back (heal leg, heal!) For my first class I took Beginner's Jazz. The class was well attended and had a variety of ages (which made me feel more comfortable). I had such a fear that it would be just the youngins' and I would feel out of place. It was not like that at all. It felt safe and welcoming. I've been taking classes at DanceWorks Indy for about 2 years, and I cannot say enough good things about the studio, the owner, the instructors, and the community created here! The studio is a welcoming place for people at all steps in their dance journey, whether starting out with your very first class, coming back to dance after a few years off, or anyone who loves dance! DanceWorks Indy has a variety of dance styles and fitness classes and offers classes for all levels: ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, contemporary, pointe, improv, heels, 305fitness, Swerk, musical theater, circuit conditioning, yoga. (I'm probably missing a few). They also offer special workshops and performance opportunities. I didn't grow up dancing; I started a bit later and have dabbled ever since. I've been to a couple of studios that offer adult dance classes (usually an add on to their kids' programs) and many different gyms and fitness studios of various types over the years. It wasn't until I came to DanceWorks Indy that I felt like I finally found a place that fits my needs and a community that I truly feel a part of! With drop ins and class packs available, I don't have to commit to a whole semester of classes up front, and I have the flexibility to try out new and different styles. The instructors and other dancers are so encouraging along the way! I've also enjoyed the new opportunities this year to meet up with dancers and instructors outside of class whether for a video project, special workshops like learning via video from a member of the cast of Wicked, performing, or for socializing and supporting other small Indy businesses! Danceworks Indy is a high quality adult dance studio located in downtown Indy. When we are not in the middle of a pademic they have studio classes. However, they have also started live stream zoom classes that have kept me sane. Some of my favorite classes are ballet, modern, swerk, and conditioning. The owner and teachers are amazing and so welcoming. Before stepping into the studio it had been a couple of years since I took a proper dance class and they made experience of being back in the studio so magical. I am so happy I have found DanceWorks Indy! Moving to Indiana has been hard and for the first year of being here I felt like I was missing something. I never thought that finding a dance studio would be what finally makes Indiana feel like home. Everyone is so nice and welcoming! I haven't danced in 12 years and I was so nervous to start taking classes, I can be very insecure at times. During my first week of classes I had so much fun and knew I would be returning for many more! The classes are fun, all the instructors are amazing, and no one is judging you! Attended a beginner contemporary class during the first week the studio was open! It was absolutely fantastic. Great direction given by the instructor. No judgement. Lots of support and great music. I'm so happy I found DanceWorks! I danced at an advanced level between 10-20 hours a week throughout my childhood and partially through college. I've missed it a ton since moving to Indy. DanceWorks offers adult classes that are at a level that builds on my experience, while also not making me feel completely out of shape after taking several years off. I love that their classes are drop in so I can try different styles each week and I don't feel pressure if my availability changes. Everyone's been so friendly and I can't wait to go back! My only suggestion is to not walk there at night as the surrounding area isn't the best. But they have lots of free parking options! read more

Recently had a friend's bachelorette party start here and it was amazing! We got to pick out the song and dance style, and one of the employees choreographed and taught us a custom dance for the wedding. It was so much fun! The instructor (shout out to Zoe was her name I believe) did an incredible job teaching us the dance and making us all feel comfortable and confident! I stumbled upon DanceWorks on Instagram during their opening week and am so glad I did. If you find exercising by yourself at the gym or on a treadmill boring, try a dance class! I'm inexperienced and out of shape but have felt welcome and challenged in the beginner ballet and beginner contemporary classes. Becky (who teaches ballet) makes sure you feel comfortable asking questions and makes a difficult and technical genre feel accessible to newcomers like me. Margo (who teaches contemporary) runs relaxed sessions with really beautifully choreographed combinations. The DanceWorks format makes it easy to drop into new classes, so you never have to worry about being behind everyone, though there are definitely fans like me who make it to their favorite class nearly every week! It's also worth saying that DanceWorks seems to be competitively priced compared to other studio-based workouts in Indy. read more
