My child was bored. The time of day was hard for a child. It felt like a waste of a lot of money.

It would be nearly impossible to not love what Dance Kaleidoscope adds to the city of Indianapolis…read more I was in their offices this past weekend for another event. It was an opportunity to reflect on my own experiences with them (and to ask myself why I'd never reviewed them). Longtime Artistic Director David Hochoy retired in 2022-23, a season which was also the organization's 50th. They are one of the Midwest's longest-performing professional dance companies. Now under the leadership of Joshua Blake Carter, Dance Kaleidoscope presents four unique mainstage performances in Indy each year. They're a very accessible group. They participate in the Access Pass Program. This allows people to experience dance with $5 tickets and even dance classes at a discounted rate. They are also known for partnering with a variety of non-profits from Damien Center to the Children's Museum to Ballet Hispanico to quite a few others. In 2019, they located inside the Factory Arts District. They offer 34 weekly classes to over 200 students. They also share their studio with other groups (including Indy Film Fest). As a wheelchair user, I've always been pretty in awe of dance. I absolutely adore Dance Kaleidoscope, and I adore what they contribute to this community. Factory Arts is really the ideal location for them. Schrott Center and the Toby at Newfields seem to be two of their favorite places to perform here in Indy. If you've never checked out Dance Kaleidoscope, I highly recommend it.

These beautiful young people appeared in several numbers throughout the program, and they are true professionals dedicated to Dance. Looking forward to another show!

The facility itself was nice and the reception staff was friendly and customer service-oriented. I walked in about 10 minutes before class. There was one person in the lobby and the receptionist was on the phone. She was so busy answering the questions of the person the phone, that by the time she addressed me to fill out newbie paperwork and pay for the class, I ended up being late. She was still talking to the potential customer on the phone. This review is based on the Sunday Zumba Class at 3:00pm. While I personally did not enjoy the class and probably would not take another Zumba class at Chrome, I am open to trying the facility again for a pole dancing class for the novelty. It's also their specialty and I have a feeling that it reflects in all their fitness classes. The classes (all) are not cheap and neither is membership, so I suggest you try a class or two before committing to a membership or class pass. Have you ever taken a Zumba class? Have you mastered Zumba moves to the advanced or expert level? Have you taken years of dance and can quickly catch on to a complex string of steps/turns that repeat maybe 3-4 times per song? Can you read minds so that you know when the instructor will change steps or direction without hand signals or verbal cues? Are you in top physical shape with no current(or remnants of past injuries, especially knee) issues? Can you handle a high impact, high energy class without a warm-up routine that ramps up in energy/impact or any slower intermediary routines (for at least 45 minutes)? If you answered "NO" to any of these questions, this class is not for you! I, by no means, would not call myself a Zumba beginner, but I am in no way an expert either. This class is not for those with physical issues of any kind (especially knee issues), even if you have experience in modifying moves. In the hundreds of Zumba classes I have taken, this was the class I enjoyed the least...so much so that I walked out before the class ended. Correction, I limped out. Though I modified moves (at least those steps I could follow), there were so many turns and direction changes that my knee couldn't take it. Oh well, lesson learned.
