Gwinnett County Animal Shelter - Meet Kali

Adopt!!!!! I've come…read moreto Gwinnett County Animal Shelter a few times. My daughter is an animal fanatic and just wants to look at animals. A few other times, we came to donate dog food . Then another time, we thought our dog went missing but she passed instead RIP! so we went looking for her. Everyone there is really nice and helpful. I will always support them and donate dog food. We're not ready to have another pet cause of other obligations but when we do, we will make sure to adopt. 89/2021

I have tried to use this government service, and observed them in action with other citizens, and I…read morefind them not just rude, unprofessional, confrontational and arbitrary - but I think racist - When I was last there, I witness a Hispanic woman in her late twenties brought a cat in with a nice cat carrier. She admitted the cat had been living under her desk in her garage office for the last month and after a month decided she did not want to take care of it anymore. The Hispanic man in his mid to late 30's, who was very friendly to this one person said "No problem". Then a white elderly lady came in with one of those cardboard cat carriers, told them this cat was found under her deck and would not leave. She advised the employee that her husband had a respiratory problem and could not keep the cat. The employee's demeaner totally changed, from open and friendly to overtly rude. He told the elderly white lady "The cat was too friendly, and that it must belong to someone" and thus would not take it; not sure how we could determine all these cat demeanors inside boxes, and to be blunt - I think it was the race of the person carrying the cat, not the cat itself. The elderly white lady told him that she would have to leave the cat in the parking lot, since it was wild and could not take it home for medical reasons. The employee threatened her not to do that with an aggressive voice, then said he would call the police and have her arrested if she did that. He then closely and aggressively followed her out the door, and then glared at the elderly lady as she left the parking lot. Since I am a white male, who was also bringing in a feral cat for health reasons, I just left. A week later, my niece (who took the cat home with her since I could not keep it, again due to health reasons) tried again. She got the same attitude, and had to leave with the cat. Why are we paying taxes for this service and why are the employees allowed to be so arbitrary - to the point they seem to make decisions not on the animal that is brought in, but the race of the person who is bringing it in?

Came here on a Saturday after looking for places where I could adopt a Maine Coon cat. This place…read morecame up with about 10 adults and 10 kittens, which is a huge amount since shelters usually don't have any, so I immediately planned to go that weekend. I called and emailed them as recommended on the site and I got very fast and friendly responses. It's up in Buford, GA but totally worth the drive, it's a house that you park in the back of. Going in, you should go through the back entrances. If you want to see the kittens, which are in the basement, you either have to make an appointment with the fosters or go on Saturday or Sunday. The adult cats are reachable through the main back door and are always at the house. there's about 65 cats living in a big house all free roaming together. This is the nicest cat shelter I've ever been to and really should be the way all cat shelters should be but sadly cannot because of funding. As soon as you enter it has the same calm vibes as a cat cafe. Cats also did not try to make a run for it when I opened doors, they all seemed calm and relaxed and happy. Less friendly cats are marked with red collars so you know to leave them alone or be very careful. A surprising number of them reacted in a friendly manner either bumping my hand for pets or coming to investigate. The house has five rooms all filled with cats and is very clean, all the cat equipment such as the litter boxes and food bowls were also very clean. A volunteer immediately greeted us and when we told her we wanted to adopt she showed us around the rooms and introduced cats she thought would be a good fit for us. I think they also welcome people just coming to visit as well so the cats can have people to interact with. This is a great cat shelter and I wish all shelters could be like this. If you are looking to adopt a cat I would highly recommend coming here since they have such a large variety of cats and you get a better feel for their personalities since they're not in cages all day but rather a more natural environment. They're adoption fee is $150 for adults and you need to fill out a long form and provide two references. They'll then do phone screenings with you and your references and then drop off the cat at your house so they can do a house check.

Wonderful support during the fostering process, very caring team about their cats up for adoption.read more

We recently adopted a young shih tzu from Ruff Rescue and have nothing but good things to say about…read morethe work they're doing. I grew up with a shih tzu and have been thinking about getting one for almost seven years now. I found "Kirby" on Petfinder, sent a link to my husband, and we were both smitten! I emailed to inquire about him and Lisa (from Ruff Rescue) got back to me that night. She said that she had rescued Kirby from animal control on the day that he was scheduled to be euthanized. He had kennel cough and an ear infection, but he's doing better now. I still can't believe that anyone would give up such a sweet boy - the vet thinks that he's between 1-2 years old and he's house trained. We hit the puppy lottery! We completed an application and did a meet & greet before officially adopting him. His adoption fee was $250, which was more than fair considering that he was neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on all shots. It's obvious that Lisa has a true passion for what she does. We're so thankful to Lisa and Ruff Rescue for doing what they do, and trusting us with Kirby the tzu!

I heard he was still available. Another time that his adoption was pending and then heard he had been adopted. TodY after yet another attempt to co tact this place. I was told that the status of Max was uncertain and someone would get back to me. I suspect this dog is long since adopted and they keep his photo up on their site to draw interest. I am done. I have to have a breed or mixed breed that is good for allergies and have spent weeks on Adopt a per and Petfinder and no one has the dogs I ask about still available. I'm glad these pets have found homes, but the small non-shedding dogs go so fast. That I'm wasting my time chasing after dogs so often already adopted. I can afford to buy a small mixed breed dog that doesn't shed. I was trying to do a kindness to a needy dog. If you are looking for a big dog there are so many in need of adoption.

The facility is pretty clean considering how many animals are sometimes here. I have visited a few…read moretimes and each time is a wonderful experience. I am in the market for a puppy and every time I go all the puppies are adopted (which isn't necessarily a bad thing) but I would love my forever friend. Anyway staff is great. All you have to do is ask to see a fur baby and they will take you to a closed off area so you can interact with the little animal and hopefully you are a match. Pay for adoption fees and boom you have your forever companion.

Lawrenceville pet owners -- PLEASE READ before boarding at PetSuites Lawrenceville…read more My puppy was seriously hurt while staying there. I got a TEXT at 7:15pm during the boarding stay telling me my puppy had a small gash near her nose. The facility stated they would be keeping a close eye on her and if I wanted, they could take her to the vet the next morning. I informed PetSuites to take her to the vet since the incident occurred while in their care. The vet called me to let me know my puppy would need surgery which required 12 stitches to close (see picture of injury below). After not hearing from PetSuites Lawrenceville, I went to the facility to talk to them and to request an incident report. PetSuites Lawrenceville admitted the potty run area had fencing/locks with bolts that stick out on the inside of the potty run and that they were working on sourcing rubber caps for the area to prevent anything like what happened to my puppy occurring in the future. I sent PetSuites of America, the registered agent, a notice of demand to cover the costs of surgery and medication. After the demand, I filed a small claims complaint which was served to their corporate office and they also failed to respond. The most heartbreaking part is that PetSuites of America failed to satisfy my claim and never asked how my puppy was doing after her surgery. I was eventually awarded judgment against them by the magistrate court. I trusted PetSuites Lawrenceville with my family member and they let me down in the worst way. This facility is entrusted with the safety of your animals. They failed mine -- and then refused to own it. I don't want this to happen to anyone else's pet. Please share this so other pet owners in the Lawrenceville area can make an informed decision before leaving their animals at PetSuites Lawrenceville facility.
