Was it closing time according to the hours posted on the door? Nope. Was there some unexpected emergency that required everyone to leave early? Also no. It's frustrating to make plans, bring a crowd, and then have to turn around because the posted hours apparently don't mean much. Really disappointing for a place I'd been happy to recommend.

Drake the bartender was personable and my waitress was so sweet. Do not come expecting a lively atmosphere, or large bar, but the service, food and drinks are A+! I wish that there was a way to ensure other hotel guests were not inconvenienced by the conference attendees reserving every inside table at dinner. I would think a catered meal in one of the meeting rooms could fix this easily.

I've also ordered the kids' chicken tender meal before, and honestly, it was more than enough food for me. It's a small place, seemed someone chain-sequencer I don't know that. I was looking for a local owned place and thought this was it. Dunno if it was the right choice but here goes. Started out with a coors light and bbq chicken nachos. The entree was bbq chicken and bacon sandwich with fries. The nachos were delicious. Sweet bbq sauce, good chunks of chicken and the chips were light and airy. The cheese sauce was legit and full of flavor as well. A 10/10 for the nachos. The sandwich was good, as were the fries. Plenty of meat and the fries were hot, just how I like them. The service was good, nobody actually waits on you, you order at a counter and they bring you your food. That's it. You police your own trash when you're done. Overall, this really wasn't what I was looking for. I was looking for a locally owned mom and pop type place. Something that didn't have the chain vibe. This is kinda a sports bar with food ish. They have some golf simulators and televisions. While the food was good, for me, it's a pass on a second visit when I come back to Ole Miss. No offense, it's just not what I was seeking.

Are you ready? Hell…read moreyeah! Damn right! Hotty Toddy, gosh almighty, who the hell has the best burger in Oxford? Phillips Grocery. This place was perfect. Super friendly service, a cool laid-back, almost divey vibe, Elvis pictures on the walls, and quite possibly the best freaking burger I've ever had. When we walked in, my kid looked around and told me there was absolutely no chance she would have ever picked a place like this on her own, but that it was clearly perfect for me. Fair. Then she ate the burger. By the time we finished, she was just as thrilled as I was and informed me, "This is why I keep you around." High praise from a daughter. Phillips Grocery is exactly the kind of place I love finding. No frills, tons of character, friendly people, and a ridiculously good burger. We'll be back.
