Newk's is a great sandwich, salad and soup shop. I think they have pizza too, but I only ever get a sandwich and soup. My wife and I have always enjoyed everything we have ever ordered. When you walk in you order at the counter, but they do bring it to your table. The service is fairly quick and we have only ever had friendly staff. That's awesome. We've been to three different locations and every time they are clean, inviting and bright. If you're in the mood for a good sandwich, I think you'll like Newk's. read more

I'm very disappointed in Newks. It's lunch time and we had to stand up and wait on a table for 10 minutes. The person who was suppose to be cleaning tables, stood around talking while we stood there. This was the dirtiest Newk's I have ever experienced, inside and outside. So many tables were just full of food from previous parties. There was no ice for freshly brewed tea. The kitchen pumping out orders and the sweetest runner, Bri, were the only bright spot. One lady pulled and replaced her punch card to clock in from her bra and began touching the computer screen and handling orders. The presumed manager who was handling tickets and orders continued to wipe his hands on his rear and hips while handling plates and inserting his fingers around and inside rim of plates and bowls instead of the bottom. I'm praying I do not get sick from eating here. Would've cancelled my order if I wasn't pressed for time. I do not foresee me returning to this location. We sat as far as we could from the doors but that was difficult to do because half of the unoccupied tables were full of dirty trays. Have eaten at this Newks several times and been pleased. I understand there's limited staff, but there was not ONE clean table in the entire place. My Newks Eatery Experience on Jackson Ave. in Oxford, MS. Let me just start with i love the food at Newks and have been eating there for the last 15 years, but the last few times at this location have not been positive especially yesterday. My family of four walked into Newks Eatery at around 5:20pm on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 on Jackson Ave. in Oxford, MS. The restaurant was not busy, but there were leftover plates/food/trash on all the tables not being used. As we were in line we were like surely someone will clean tables quickly as it looked like a mess in the restaurant (should of took that first sign). We proceeded to order and get the receipt by 5:29pm. We went to find a table, nothing had been cleaned so I looked for the cleanest of the dirty tables. I physically moved the plates to another table. I kindly asked someone of the several working to please clean our table. They proceeded to tell me they didn't have rags at the time as the dishwasher just ran and wont be done until 6pm. I said well surely you have something to wipe down the table and finally we did get the table cleaned. So, I was like okay well lets just sit down to this nice cup of fresh brewed sweet tea. Man, was I wrong the great sweet tea you look forward to was not sweet at all smh. I kindly let them know as well as others, but they said sorry they made it this morning, nothing else we can do. So, I went ahead and got something else to drink and we all wanted to get some snacks at the condiment table, but they were practically empty. They had no sense of urgency to clean tables, make sweet tea, or refill condiments like shredded cheese, croutons, etc. I decided to take a deep breath and just wanted to look forward to my Newks "Q" pizza. Finally, my family's order arrived about 30 minutes later, but guess who never got to eat - they never brought my pizza and never asked if we got everything etc. I finally walked up to the register five minutes after watching my family eat to get a refund on my pizza. So I stop at Newk's on the way home to pick up a sandwich from the Grab n Go box. Sandwich is $7.99 plus tax, total comes to $8.71 I give cashier a $20.00 bill, three quarters and a penny. OMG, the cashier could not figure it out!!!! The cashier had to call the manager. He could not figure it out either!!! Gave me back $11.25 duh!!!! I gave up. I took my sandwich and my beating and left. So the very next day I call and speak with the stores GM, a gentleman named Tim. I explained the incident from the evening before. I mentioned I was going to post about this incident on social media sites, he asked me not to until he could look into the matter. That was over 1 week ago. Sorry Tim but it appears you're part of the problem too. When you tell someone something, stick too it. If this an example of your management skills, no wonder your employees can't make change!!! So the lesson here is, this store has employees who can't make change, the middle management can't either and the GM is a liar. Oh and I did report all this on Newk's website, haven't heard back yet. I was delighted to see two of favorite delivered at my doorstep. If you are ok with a $3 add to your specialty pizza, choose the cauliflower crust. It is a crispy goodness. I always add "something" to my pizza so I would suggest to add some veggies. There are a variety of cheeses so you can be as fancy or as basic as you want. Though pricey, Newk's pizza is my favorite pizza. So to not starve over the weekend, I also ordered the Black and Blue salad. I expected some chunks of steak but received some sliced bland meat instead. I will chalk it up to the pandemic. The salads and sandwiches are over-priced for what you get. The food is fresh and tasty, but it is just a revamp of the traditional soup, sandwich, and salad shop. For the same price, you can sit down in most places and have a full meal with full table service. You must also be careful if you are eating here to be healthy. Some of the salads, such as the Newk's Favorite are full of calories and fat. You can eat half of a Papa John's pepperoni pizza,that has the same carbs and calories as the Newk's Favorite. The atmosphere is clean and fitting. The food is good, but nothing worth writing home about. While I may stop in sometimes for a quick lunch, this is not my first choice in the same price range. read more

One of the most poorly managed restaurants I have ever been in. My last three orders I have ordered the exact same thing, a chicken bacon club. Every time the sandwich was wrong. The first they gave me a Newk's Q (although it said chicken bacon club on receipt). The second time they gave me a sandwich with chicken and melted pimento cheese? That was it...The third time it happened they almost got it right except they forgot to put the lettuce and tomatoes. I marched back in and told the staff what ingredients are supposed to go on the sandwich. My other visits when they got the order correct, it normally took double the estimated time or more for the order to be ready. One day I went and wanted to eat inside to meet some friends for lunch, and they were only accepting take out orders. The three most recent reviews being 1 star tells you all you need to know. There is a never ending list of issues with this location. Either a major change in management/ownership needs to happen soon or the store needs to be shut down. read more

I ordered a pepperoni pizza online and it said to go to a specific place so you don't have to wait in line. I arrive on time and I see no food waiting. No one ever asked if I needed help or wanted anything. I sat there for a few more minutes by the register and kept seeing nothing being placed in the online order area. So after this guy only asked white people if he could help them and kept pretending I didn't exist, I finally got so irritated and interrupted him asking where is the food that was supposed to be ready 15 minutes ago. They apparently didn't put it in the online order area but in the pick up area when you order by phone. My pizza was just sitting there the whole time!!!! Then the guy didn't even apologize for my wait or for the fact that I guess my skin color wasn't white enough for him to acknowledge my presence! Good food, good service. But tables are distributed in an odd way. Many are out in the open, and most or all are near high-traffic areas. Noise is encouraged by the hard tile floor and clanky ice machine. We got a table (they are 100% booth-less) next to a window that afforded some traffic relief, but only some. In exchange, we found ourselves underneath a light that probably was last used as a spotlight in a WW-II prison camp. Food was fine, but go elsewhere for comfort. read more
