I did NOT expect Cook Out to be such a solid entry in the Oxford book of eats but it definitely delivered! Let's start with their best foot forward: THOSE MILKSHAKES ARE TO DIE FOR! Over a period of 2 days, I tried the Oreo, Strawberry, Banana Berry and Pineapple Banana shakes. They were all 5 star shakes but I'd say the Banana Berry was tops for me. The burgers (1/2lb) probably weren't really 8oz but they were surprisingly good - especially the pickle strips. Fries were just ok but the onion rings were a level up. They're open super late (past midnight) and even though their speaker system sucks, the workers are friendly and upbeat. Glad there's an option for milkshake maniacs in town! read more

Went to the drive thru today around lunch. Before I said a word to the lady (I think) comes over the speaker and says "I can't hear you, your truck is too loud". I haven't said anything so I apologize and attempt to tell her that my truck isn't loud and I haven't anything. " I SAID YOUR TRUCK IS TOO LOUD, EITHER TURN IT OFF OR GO SOMEWHERE ELSE". So I turned my truck off and attempt to place an order and she comes back on yelling again that my truck is too loud. It was turned off! I drive a basic ford F150. Stock. No modification, and no one with me. No background noise. (I have worked drive thru before and know that some vehicles are loud through the headsets, but never loud enough to warrant this. ) I raised my voice to tell her this and she got even louder telling me to turn my truck off or leave. Since when is this acceptable to not even let your potential customers speak before yelling at them for no reason. I don't know if she has had a bad day or what but screaming and yelling over the intercom is not the way to make customers happy. I was compliant with her requests. I don't know what she was hearing but she needs lessons on customer service if you are going to work the drive thru. There is no sense in screaming and telling someone to leave for not turning the truck off. Even after I turned the truck off she continued to yell. I'm not saying I won't be back, but it will be a while before i do come back. Someone needs to look into this. read more

This new fast food restaurant recently opened on W Jackson and I visited it twice last week while in town. First visit was for a fast vanilla milkshake for $2.79. It was excellent (5). A lot of milkshake for a fair price. They have over 40 varieties available. My second visit a couple of days later was to eat a meal. I ordered the regular hamburger with two sides of fries and cole slaw with a drink for $5.55 with tax. A heckuva deal! The food came out about 5 minutes later. The burger patty was about a 1/3lb. and the burger was very good. A solid burger, I gave it a 3.5. The fries were frozen out of bag type but ok so I gave them a 3. The other side of cole slaw was light and refreshing and I gave it a 3.5. Counter service was fast and friendly. The interior decor is Ole Miss themed. This place will be a hit. The food is good and prices low. It represents a lot of value. Not too many combo's are offered with two sides at a $4.99 price before tax. The menu also offers chicken sandwiches, pulled pork sandwiches, hot dogs, chicken wraps and chicken strips. read more

Just ordered my food tonight. the sides I ordered was cheese Cajun fries. Everything else was right. Turns out my fries were cold and they forgot to put cheese in it. so I go back into the line and wait. the female that took my order had an attitude. when i tell her she snatches the plate from me and slams the window and comes back with chilli cheese fries and I told her that's not what I ordered. Snatches the plate again and slams the window once more. I didn't get angry at all. I just wanted my order done right. before i drove off I told her I hope she have a good night. So went back in to have them fix it after waiting in the drive through forever for the worst service. I tried to make my order and she kept cutting me off saying "what else" before I was done. PRO TIP: you can "double up" on ur 2 sides and get 2 entrees and 1 drink. HOW AMAZING IS THAT?! one of my good friends gets 1 quesadilla with 1 side of quesadilla and 1 drink. Usually cookout is spot on with their food and service, but not today. I ordered the tray with two cheese quesadillas and two sides of cheese bites. Keep in mind I am a vegetarian who gets sick if I eat meat. The quesadillas were both chicken and one didn't have cheese at all, so I couldn't eat them. I also did not get the second order of cheese bites, and, in the one order I did get, I only got about five.
