The actual food, whether pork, beef or chicken, was completely slathered with sauce, even though it didn't really say it on the menu. Honestly, sauces have their place, but if you can't tell what meat you're eating, in my opinion, that's overboard. There just wasn't anything that would make me want to return. Sorry, but I have to call them as I see them. You may like that, but I'll pass.

Ropa vieja, maduras, ceviche, and pescado el día
Alyanna T.

My party of four shared croquetas de jamón, maduras con tocino, ceviche, pulpo, ropa vieja, pescado del día, churros con chocolate, and pie de limón - TASTE: 4/5 - highlights included the savory ham croquettes, satisfying sweet plantains, and classic ceviche. The fish of the day included an amazing coconut curry(?) sauce, my favorite part of the meal! TEXTURE: 5/5 - perfectly fried croquetas and churros, tender octopus and shredded flank steak, and a refreshing key lime pie PRICE: 4/5 - total came to $300 SERVING SIZE: 4/5 - appreciated the mix of small and large plates. Filled us up and had leftovers to take home! SERVICE: 4/5 - made a Resy a couple days prior and arrived on time at 5pm. They had our high chair set up for us, and our waiter was friendly ATMOSPHERE: 4/5 - large space w a dark & moody vibe for dinner. Always appreciate the chance to eat Cuban food! PARKING: 4/5 - got a street spot right on Pine St

I haven't been here in years but I'm constantly tempted to go back. First off, the restaurant is massive and is also surrounded by tons of parking options. The menu wasn't huge but everything they do is phenomenal, the flavors, the size, the creativity.

Ceviche was fresh and tasty, mushroom croquettes very good, a portion of 4 small ones. Also great service and prices are decent.

Santiago sour

Get the Santiago sour! I lowered my expectations because it was closing time for the restaurant. They were gracious enough to fill my to go order and the bar made me the most excellent cocktails. The Santiago sour is so delicious! Very smooth and creamy. I had the empanada del dia and I can't wait to come back tomorrow and order it again. The ropa vieja was so flavorful! Perfect sauce and friend plantain. Reminded me why I love Cuban food. Beautiful restaurant and amazing service. They went above and beyond what I would expect. I would have totally understood having to cancel my order.

This is my favorite restaurant in the area and one of my top places in all of Massachusetts! I love Gustavo's the flavors are unmatched. I normally get the ceviche and it's so fresh and flavorful. The one in this review has dragon fruit and it's amazing. The pork belly avocado lettuce wraps are also delicious the flavor is so good. The churros and spicy chocolate sauce is also so good. I love this place my only thing I wish is they added more gluten free friendly dessert options, other than that they are the best.

CAZUELA DE COLIFLOR ASADA (GF)

Every tapas was perfection on a plate. The presentation was on point and the flavors were in perfect harmony. You would think each tapas would take a long time to come out, but no! We barely had to wait for the food to come out. The service was good and the ambiance was spectacular. I couldn't keep my hands off of the churros. The chocolate sauce was decadent and sweet. The churro was perfectly crispy and light, but not greasy. The steak was a perfect medium rare with an excellent char. The chimichurri gave it the citrus hit that livened up the plate. The crema on the side added a dash of creaminess that complemented the acid in the chimichurri. The same went for the lamb chops. Grilled to perfection! The meat was tender and the fat was crispy. The romesco sauce perfectly accompanied the lamb chops with the arugula giving it that freshness and crunch. Last but not least, the humble cauliflower was elevated in the dish called cazuela de coliflor asada. I never expected cauliflower to be treated with such care. The creaminess of the sauce, which was probably from the manchego cheese, perfectly complemented the cauliflower in the dish. What an experience! Give them a visit!

We were five of us out to dine on a Saturday evening and we were certainly not disappointed. At first though the waitress who served water was not too good with her aim, so we thought oh well she was having a bad day. Sure enough, she was because what followed was great service and superb food. Very nicely done, tasty and served well. The place was packed and extremely noisy so conversation was limited. Did not matter though the quality of food made up for it. Well worth a visit. We were at their Waltham place. Parking was ample and free at the parking lot behind the restaurant, which was nice!

I've been to the Cambridge location and was very excited to try their Waltham one which I've heard is better. They have a massive space in Waltham with affordable parking in the back (free after 6pm) as well as plenty street parking. We got a bunch of different tapas (can't remember the exact names) but everything tasted delicious. Hard to pick my favourite one but the pastelitos were sweet and savoury. The corn patties were Smokey and had a savoury taste to it. Steaks with chimichurri are always a hit too. While dinner was mind blowing, the dessert was just ok. We got churros with chocolate and the tres leches cake. The chocolate from the churros was great, the tres leches cake had too much of the meringue on top. I personally liked dipping the cake in the chocolate. To top it off, our server was super nice! He had all the great recommendations! Will definitely be back!

Mushrooms-nope

Took my brother here for his bday! We had an amazing time. For the most part all the food was amazing! The mushroom balls were a no and won't get those again. All three of us agree the flavor and texture were off putting. If it was a whole fried mushroom it probably would have been great. The other surprise I was the ribs. They were fall off the bone tender but the sauce was awful! All of the rest of the drinks and items were insane...Yuka, lamb chops, plantains, muscles, Cuban mini sammies, pork tacos, Ropa veija all to die for! If they changed the sauce on the ribs they'd be amazing but as is nope! You've gotta try this place it's a gem!

Everything was amazing! You can do no wrong with their menu, everything we got was so flavorful and delicious. We got the yuca fries, ropa vieja, lamp chops, croquettes, seafood salad, cauliflower, and garlic shrimp. I think my favorites were the lamp chops, croquettes and garlic shrimp, which all were just bursting with flavor. The drinks here are good as well, and the dessert is apparently delicious because they had sold out, and I'm definitely looking forward to the next time we go to try. Overall, great experience and a fun vibe. Would highly recommend!

Stopped in to try for first time. The ribeye appetizer was excellent and cooked perfect... very pricey at 26.00 Then ordered the pork tacos which was the special that day for tacos. The taco shell was excellent and soft plantain .,order came with two tacos, these were very good , but pricey. Beer was pricey at 12.00 for a draft; but a Maine lunch which runs higher price by a 1-2 bucks ... 12 was high vs 10 bucks Then bill comes and a kitchen tip charge included ? Then bill has suggested tip percentages beginning at 18% I don't see returning when a kitchen tip is added . There are no taxes on tips and this isn't appropriate any longer ... Expensive for 2 appetizers and a beer Food was very good .

A lot of things here, especially the salads, were way too salty and took me out of the experience. I understand adding salt to enhance the flavor and most of the dishes were way overdone with salt. Here are my full ratings: - [ ] Ribeye: 7/10 - [ ] Cauliflower: 9/10 - [ ] Yuca fries: 6/10 (too thick for me) - [ ] Beef empanadas: 6/10 (too salty) - [ ] Lamb chops: 7/10 (chops good; salad too salty) - [ ] Seafood Del Mar: 4/10 (too salty) - [ ] Chicarrones (pork belly): 5/10 (pork belly cooked well, but again too salty)

RESY shows seating in the Restaurant and the Dining Room. What's the difference?

There are 2 main eating areas. One in the front of the resturant, and one in the back. The back tends to be quieter and easier to hold a conversation. I think the front area is bigger and has the bar.

Is the food very spicy?

No, is not very spicy!!

Have the added cushions to the wooden chairs?

I was there last Friday(Sep 3) and they didn't have cushions for the chairs in their outdoor seating area. It was pretty uncomfortable as you can imagine. I'm not sure if you're asking about wooden chairs in their indoor seating area though. Hope…

Can I order a sandwich for dinner?

Are they serving alcohol now?

Yes, include sangria and mixed cocktails

We trusted all of his food and drink recommendations and he didn't let us down. The coconut flan was one of the best things I've ever put in my mouth. Our first team lunch in 2025 had 16 people, so the tables were arranged in a long row. The leader, who was paying the bill, sat at one end, while the rest of us sat at the other. I wasn't seated near the leader, and I quickly noticed a night-and-day difference in service between the two ends of the table. We ordered several appetizers, entrees, and desserts. Initially, the appetizers were distributed evenly between both ends. However, after we finished our first round, the leader's end had their empty plates cleared and water refilled, while our end was left with empty plates and cups. We waited over 10 minutes as a second round of appetizers arrived at the leader's end, yet no one cleared our dishes or refilled our water. We flagged down three different servers, each of whom promised to help, but we continued waiting. After more than 16 minutes, someone finally cleared only some of our plates, refilled our water, and brought us the appetizers that the other end had already received. The leader's end probably never noticed anything wrong because they were consistently attended to, but the rest of us felt neglected. The poor service continued when our entrées arrived: the servers left the second round of empty appetizer plates on our end and never cleared them. By the time dessert arrived, I couldn't tell whether my frustration with the service had affected my perception or whether the food was simply mediocre. Either way, the experience left a bad impression, especially because the difference in hospitality between the two ends of the table was so obvious. Our second team lunch took place in September 2026 with 12 people. Ten of us arrived first and ordered our entrees while saving two seats for our leaders, who were running late due to a meeting. I was the second person to order, requesting the Cuban Rice Bowls with a side of Crispy Eggplant Milanesa and Grilled Chicken Adobe. When the food arrived, everyone--including the two leaders who ordered last--received their entrées, but I only received my side of Grilled Chicken Adobe. I waited five minutes without seeing any servers or receiving an update about my missing food. When I tried to flag down someone who appeared to be the hostess, she hurried past me and said, "They are working on it," without stopping to speak with me. I felt completely neglected. I had ordered early, yet no one bothered to explain the delay or reassure me that the rest of my meal was coming. After another five minutes, my Cuban Rice Bowls and Crispy Eggplant Milanesa finally arrived--10 minutes after everyone else had started eating. By then, my chicken was getting cold, and I felt pressured to eat quickly so I wouldn't keep everyone waiting. I couldn't enjoy the food and barely remember how it tasted because I was focused on chewing and swallowing as fast as possible. When I was about three-quarters finished and everyone else had already finished their meals, the awkwardness became too much, so I asked the servers to take my food away. The Cuban Rice Bowls may have been tasty, but all I remember is feeling rushed, neglected, and unable to enjoy my meal. I would recommend small groups here to have the best experience because they obviously cannot handle large groups and will neglect half the table or mess up someone's order.

After over a decade of living in Boston, I found myself in town for the weekend and Tres Gatos was my number 1 food stop. The food is always phenomenal, with both old favorites (tortilla espagnola!) and new dishes (oyster mushrooms!). Drinks were interesting and tasty (the mushroom cocktail was so neat!), service was excellent, and the vibe is cozy, hip, and gay. Practical tips: -About a 10 min walk from Stonybrook (orange line) -Stairs to get in at the front -- it's possible there may be an accessible entrance around the back, but I'm not sure. -Parking nearby is doable, but not necessarily easy -Reservations are important, especially for larger parties on popular nights -Volume is average -- loud enough that you can't hear the table next to you (unless you're really listening!), soft enough that you can easily chat with your whole table without shouting

What makes it especially unique is the setting. There's a vinyl record store next door, and the restaurant itself is housed in what appears to be an old home, with the living room and kitchen transformed into a dining space. How cool is that?! The space is quite small, intimate, and dimly lit, giving it a cozy feel. Service was great throughout our visit. The menu features a small-plates concept, which I really enjoyed because it allowed us to sample quite a few dishes. We actually tried most of the menu, and I thoroughly enjoyed the food and the overall dining experience. Now, the cocktails... unfortunately, those weren't a hit for me. I'm definitely a sweet, fruity cocktail kind of person, and even after two attempts, I couldn't find anything that really suited my taste. I would have loved to see a few sweeter options on the cocktail menu. Not everyone enjoys spirit-forward or less-sweet drinks, so a little more variety would be appreciated! Would I come back? Absolutely! The food, service, and unique atmosphere are worth another visit. Next time, though, I might skip the cocktails and venture into their wine selection instead. Overall, a charming little spot with a lot of character and a dining experience I'd happily repeat!
