We ordered a pizza to go and decided to have a beer at the bar while we waited. The bartender was friendly, took our order quickly, but then took a long time to fulfill the order. Not the pizza, the beer. There was only one other person sitting at the bar, and he was clearly a regular. In between every action, she stopped to talk with him. For example, she picked up an empty glass, but instead of taking it to the tap, she walked over to him, and started chatting. After about a minute, she filled the glass. Got a bottle out of the fridge, stopped over to talk with him, while removing the cap, then brought it to me. It was very odd. The pizza was also kinda odd. It was very basic, not a lot of flavor. Plain flour dough, tomato sauce, melted cheese, greasy pepperoni. It had all the elements of a good pizza, but it wasn't. We ate it once and didn't finish the leftovers. read more

You have never had enough staff which equals terrible service! Place was not crowded and were told hour and half wait. Then immediately sat at the bar. Empty tables that were not bussed along with 8 empty seats at the bar. I'm glad I don't own this place! As I am typing this we already ordered a pizza and he came back and asked if we wanted a menu! I said didn't we order a pizza. Oh yeah let me check on that. 7:30pm on Friday during Christmas season and he said we are not seating anyone else at the request of the owner. Wow, what a HUGE MISS by Gustavo's Mgmt the night of Dec 23rd. We stopped by at 5:30 pm and put our name in for a table of four and was told it was going to be a 35-40 min wait; 90 MINUTES later we got our table, just after 7 pm. My wife ordered first and asked for the chicken Parmesan. The server told her they were out of chicken! Then the server rattled off a laundry list of items they were out of, which practically left the menu options quite anorexic.The server said the restaurant would be closed for the next two days and that management wanted to pare down the food inventory in the kitchen. Interesting way to run a restaurant. Ridiculous that we waited an hour and a half to eat at a restaurant that had no little food by 7 PM! It would've been at least helpful if they would've communicated this with us and the other people. read more

Had a problem, but......... We discovered Gustavo's on our last trip through Dehlonega about a month ago. The BLT Caprese is to die for. Great concept, well executed. The service was great and all in all, we decided to try Gustavo's again this time through. We were seated and our waitress came over in short order and asked what we wanted to drink. When she returned with our drinks she took our food order. The sandwich included a salad, came about 10 minutes later. A little long for a salad, but it was lunchtime so I was willing to cut them a little slack. Then we waited. And waited...... And waited............. No sign of our waitress, she didn't stop by to see if we needed anything or let us know how our order was progressing. After a half hour I managed to flag her down and she said that the kitchen was working on it and it would be right up. That was the last we saw of her. A few minutes later the manager, Jenny, stopped by and was very apologetic. She told us that the ticket had apparently gotten stuck behind another ticket and was missed. She kindly offered to comp the meal, which she did, and we talked for a moment about the waitress's behavior. I know "schtuff" happens, but it's how you handle the situation that matters. Our waitress completely mishandled the situation. Rather than catch the missing ticket and follow through on correcting the problem she decided to ignore the problem, and us, for the rest of our visit. Again, kudos to Jenny for picking up the problem and doing a great job of covering someone else's screwup. If she hadn't gotten involved this would have been our last visit to Gustavo's. read more

***ETA- I left a review on their FB page saying the food wasn't great and the manager was rude. They blocked me and deleted my review.*** On vacation with my family (party of 10) and this location was literally the only bad experience we had during the entire vacation. We arrived for lunch, they had a sign that they didn't have pasta or hoagies that day... ok that's fine. We order pizza, Stromboli, hummus, and a salad. We paid right away (our mistake, but honestly probably why the remainder of the visit they didn't care about anything.... They already had our money) and explained we weren't trying to rush them, we were just trying to be fast on our end so we could make it to tubing by 4:00 (it was 1:30). Server was so nice and super sweet. Order put in...... we didn't get our food for over an hour. We asked for updates around 45 minutes and we were told it would be out soon, that apparently there was an oven issue they've had all day (but didn't tell us at the beginning). Most of the family left after eating super fast once the food came, but my sister-in-law asked to speak to a manager. This lady told her to get the card it was paid on and it would be refunded. She returned with the card and someone else started screaming at her in front of the entire restaurant, saying nothing would be refunded. She was embarrassed and upset, so she walked out. My boyfriend and I walked back in to address this. The lady that screamed wouldn't come out, but another waitress did. She was nice and told us the lady that yelled was the manager, and she sent someone for the owner. He came around the corner, in front of the restaurant saying "I'm busy cooking, you're just gonna have to wait". I said "excuse me? Are you the owner? Why are you being rude and talking to us like this in front of everyone like this without even listening to us?." He waved me off and said "I don't have time for this." AND WALKED AWAY!!!! We walked out because we aren't letting this ruin our vacation, but who runs a business like that? Things happen, I get it.... But the owner (and manager for that matter) should've come out and apologized for the wait, explained the oven issue, and given us the option to go elsewhere with that knowledge.... Instead he acted like he did not care about his customers at all and was more disrespectful than I've ever seen anyone running a business behave. I'm grateful that my kids were outside at the time and didn't witness that behavior. We vacation in Georgia often, but will never return to that restaurant. read more

Popped in on a Tuesday evening after a full day of exploring Dahlonega... My partner in crime has a thing for toasted ravioli, which Gustavo's has on its appetizer menu, so we were hooked. The ravioli was solid, but the entrées were outstanding, and the portions were massive. The Stromboli was very flavorful, and even a "small" was big enough to take some home and the baked ziti was mammoth with more than half now residing in the fridge. We sat in a window seat and watched life on the square go by ... The staff was friendly and the service on point. It's a recommend for me, and if you go, make sure to bring your appetite. read more

This place is a nightmare. We had a party of 5 adults, 4 small kids and a baby. We had one child already sitting in a lap, and the staff added a chair to the end of the table, which I (baby's mother) sat in. And while I was nursing my baby the hostess/manager(?) walked up to me and told me she needs my chair. I was so dumbfounded at the request, I said, "umm, ok, where do you want me to sit?" She shrugged and just reiterated she needed me to get up so she could put the chair back at another table. (Of note, there were at least 4 other OPEN tables in the restaurant). When I (and everyone else in my party who stood up in my defense) refused to get up in the middle of our meal while nursing a baby, she got upset and walked away. The owner came out and said he did not care about our business, especially when we "rearranged [his] sh*t and then b*tched about it." He was SO confrontational, rude and completely out of line! His behavior would have been unacceptable from a stranger on the street, even worse he was acting this way as the owner of a restaurant to a paying customer-- OVER A CHAIR. We immediately left our very mediocre pizza, paid the bill (without question) and walked out. The head of our party went back inside to just express how disappointed we were in their service, as we are 3rd year patrons of Gustavo's. The owner came out of the kitchen WIELDING A KNIFE and interrupted stating, "just get the F*ck out of my restaurant!" I know what you're thinking, there has to be more to the story-- people, especially owners of restaurants, would not get THIS ESCALATED over a chair... but alas, he did. This guy was volatile to say the least. I feel so bad for our waitress who has to deal with these two- the "manager" and owner... she just had a look of dread on her face the whole time, she tried to offer us a solution, and I'm sure she got in trouble for it. We have been going to Gustavo's since 2017. Consistently good food. We often get a veggie pizza and salads. The last few times the pizza has been cooked perfectly. Sometimes pizza with toppings can be runny, whoever cooked the pizza has nailed it. Not runny and stiff enough that you can fold it. For the salad, I usually get the spicy Cesar dressing. Average priced. The staff is always friendly and attentive. read more

Absolutely the rudest mgt and serving team I have experienced anywhere in Georgia. Allowed people to stand outside in the cold, while employees waved and laughed as people waiting outside. The server was a pleasant girl but the food was Horrible. The worst Pizza I have tasted since buying Frozen Pizza at Publix. I am surprised anyone in Mgt or in the Kitchen is still employed. We just moved to the area and have decided to try to eat locally and tonight we wanted Italian and tried this place. Tyler was our server and he was amazing, he was very helpful and insightful on the menu and helped us pick dinner. A very hip looking place with great staff and wonderful food in downtown historic Dahlonega! The appetizers were a great sharing size, the salads were huge, stuffed full of fresh veggies and other ingredients and the pizzas were very large and very yummy! I especially enjoyed the Spinderella pizza, ingredients that I never would have thought to put together! (Artichokes and spinach base covered with cheese, mushrooms, onions and chicken, delish!) We had a large party and the staff took care of us in a very timely manner and were very attentive to the group. The only down side to our whole experience was that they only have 1 bathroom, making it a lengthy process as our group was finishing up and getting ready for a long trip home. read more

We've tried to come and eat at this place multiple times, but because of the times they are opened it was difficult. Today was finally our day to taste the pizza or food from this well known restaurant. The waitress was excellent. We typically like to let our waitresses pick our drinks and she did a wonderful job doing so, but when we got our check, I noticed there was a liquor tax. I asked about because I've never had liquor tax before. The owner seemed to not believe it or maybe he was tired, but we were asked never to return , not because we were mean or belligerent, but because of a simple question. We will never return. The pizza was good, not the best pizza I've ever had, but because of the owner and his terrible attitude, especially toward the person who is hearing impaired I will definitely never return! I'll go to the other restaurants in the area when we visit. I know one customer doesn't mean anything because well there's hundreds more but this warranted a review read more

We liked their food so much we ate there twice in a 3-day stay in Dahlonega. The pizza was excellent, as was the spring salad. Could have eaten the philly steak sandwich every day. Have to agree with other reviews that mentioned a disinterested staff. Both times, the greeters made us feel like we should go elsewhere. No greeting. No smiles. Our server was equally disinterested. We called around 5:15 and asked what to do if we wanted to pick up 2 pizzas around 6:45. They said to call back in a half hour and order our pizzas so we did and when we called back they said they were no longer accepting carry out orders. I asked them to make an exception since they were the ones who advised we wait a while. The hostess taking our call asked the actual owner who said there would be no exceptions. My parents cruel and traumatizing experience with the owner & staff of this restaurant: First they told my parents the wait was 30 minutes so they went and walked around the town & came up when the 30 minutes were up. They were told to wait longer so they went to the bar & my dad asked for a beer. They again waited for 30 more minutes. By that time they were very hungry & asked the bartender for an appetizer. Incredibly rude, the bar tender told them they couldn't order an appetizer if they were waiting for a table. My parents ensured they would close out & pay the bartender when their table came but the bartender refused to serve them if they were waiting for a table. He spoke to them in an incredibly condescending tone making my parents feel like children. Finally after my parents got a seat, the owner came & threatened to call the cops if they didn't leave. Utterly shocked, my mom refused to leave until they could give her a single reason. They didn't give her one and immediately called the cops on them. My mom called me traumatized as she explained the details not understanding why that happened to them. My parents love going to Dahlonega but this completely shocked them. My heart breaks for them, this should not happen to absolutely anyone. The only other reason that comes up is race. We are Colombian and my parents both have Spanish accents. I wish this wasn't the case but given the owner's inability to tell them a single thing they did (because they didn't do anything at all), race is the only answer. My heart hurts that anyone would ever treat my family like this. If they did it to my parents I am positive it will happen again. read more
