Gustavo Briand's women's haircuts have become increasingly poor quality. Historically he had cut my hair into long layers and I would only visit him for my hair cut and keratin treatments. In June 2023 I asked him for a trim specifically no more than 1/2" cut. He cut several inches off my length and didn't layer the hair sufficiently. Please see the attached photos. The black jacket photo was the before where the front of my hair was several inches below my chin. The after photo shows the hair shorter than my chin without blending. My hair was a hideous mess that required another cut from a different stylist. I will never be his customer again. Gustavo behaved incredibly rudely during my last salon visit. I scheduled an appointment through Booksy and paid the deposit. When I arrived for the confirmed appointment, another woman was in the middle of a cut and keratin service. I waited for him. Then very late into the evening he starts my cut. Gustavo called offering to "fix" the cut and a keratin treatment for free. His gesture was kind, but his dramatic cut of several inches of hair, when I asked for a trim, broke the relationship. Another stylist candidly indicated that Gustavo may have used a thinning shear on my hair or a dull scissor. My hair had many unusual cut lines some going at angle from the back to the front. The hair in the front had a hard cut line of several inches. Gustavo is a nice person. I simply do not understand or know why he cut several inches of hair when I asked for a trim. Gustavo cannot "fix" over cutting the hair. In six months my hair will be "fixed" when it grows another three inches. I would encourage his clients for a thorough discussion about what you want whether it is your first or successive visit to his salon. read more

Gustavo is a master stylist, which is a title that is inadequate for him. He absolutely and instinctively knows exactly how hair moves and where it will fall as he cuts it. The best salon in Miami hands down! I have been going from one salon to the next in search of a master cut, but did not find what I was in search of until doing a Google search for 'the best haircut in Miami'. Gustavo's studio is the first that pops up based on the number of positive reviews on City Search. He is not cheap, but I can say that his cuts are worth every penny and they will grow out beautifully for those of you that hate having to go in for a trim on a monthly basis just so that you're cut looks as good as the day you first went in. I took a huge risk and cut my long hair off, so that I could finally rid myself of some old dyed and damaged hair. Gustavo's team (Michael) greeted me when I entered the salon and I had a complimentary consultation with Guatavo after he was done with a client he had in his chair. He was hesitant to cut my hair short because I might change my mind the next day and call him back crying, but after I told him I was convinced to go short, he gave in and told me he would only cut it short because I was set on it and sure of my decision. That is major relief because stylists are usually trying to convince you to go shorter, so that maintaining the cut is more costly. Gustavo solely cares about the happiness of his clients and not profit. He took a long time cutting my hair and let me see it air-dried, so I would know what the cut would look like if I took a shower and ran out of the house, which is typical in my world. :) The haircut was a hit!!! Everyone had complimented me on the change and how healthy my hair looks now. It has been two months since it was cut and it is growig out amazingly and only looks better and better as time goes. With all the rave reviews I thought this might be a hidden salon gem in south beach but after my experience I should have looked at how many reviews each of these reviewers had and see if there is some bias. That being said after moving to sobe I have been looking for a salon and been to Safar which is great but the stylists seem to change ever so often. I previously have been with the same stylist for over 5 years before I moved from Las olas. I thought I might try Gustavo with all his rave reviews and bought a groupon. I called to make an appointment and he then explains groupon doesn't include toner blow try nothing just basically what is stated partial hightlights and deep conditioning. Ok I was glad he was upfront about it. I asked how much full highlights would be to add to my groupon and he states $150 extra when from partial to full it's a hundred dollars extra on his website thus he just decided to add the $50 bucks and as I questioned him about it he states that partial was a different price etc but I just left it alone. Everything became clear as the experience progressed. In his eyes I was only a half paying customer if that. I had a appointment time, arrived 5 minutes early and then proceed to wait over 40 mins from my actually hair appointment time as he chit chatted away with customers he was done with (likely regulars) their hair. As this point, had I not paid already I would have walked out as you have no respect for my time. As he does my hair he chit chats away with friends etc thus taking longer time to finish my hair. He then explains to me that he is treating me like any other customer not a groupon customer, him just saying that confirms you are treating me differently as I have never heard this from any groupon vendor. After the highlights are done mind you its two hours later from my appt time, he remembers he has an appointment himself , tries to rush and says can he just leave the deep condition in and I can wash it out at home, I was so ready to leave I happily agreed. His time is definitely more important than mine. From getting my hair done more times I can count I have gotten full hightlights blow dry cut style the works and it has taken 2.5 hours on average with my hair looking great, here just partial took over 2 hours nothing included because of his unprofessionalism. At the end he decides to "educate" me how groupon works and how much the service costs and what he gets and how much his service is really worth and how people buy groupon and then don't return because the place they go is to expensive. As if I do not know how it works. I read people for a living, I dumb downed my profession because after he asked if I was local and what I do for a living, I didn't want to be overcharged if I added any services which I'm pleased I didn't. Did my highlights turn out fine, yes they did, will I return here, hell no, his unprofessionalism is remarkable and what he charges in my opinion is definitely not worth the experience compared to other salons that give great service and experience ( I can recommend same satisfaction with hair color if not equal or better etc). Wish him the best of luck, he might be a great person (so if you're a regular you'll be happy) but as a professional Hair stylist and treatment of new customers I give 0 stars. read more

The salon is not only a hair salon, but it is a home! You try it once, you're hooked. I go there for my Keratin, and my husband for haircut and sometimes Keratin too. Gustavo (owner and hair stylist) gives his magic touch to your hair and to the salon's design. It is a very cute and warm place, to spend some pamper time. Let's talk about hair: I naturally have thin curly hair (not freezy, no wavy, but big curls). Summer time in Miami, I don't even know what my hair is, all I know is it's not easy to deal with. The best for everything -- color, highlights, and cut. I have tried highlights in the past and always hated them. Naturally, I have very dark hair so highlights are not easy to accomplish on my noggin. I decided, at the insistence of my mother who says that now that I am 40, I need to freshen my look with lighter hair), I decided to give highlights another shot. I went to a well-recommended colorist and hated the job! I looked like J-Lo with neon orange highlights. I literally cried. (My sister laughed...whatever.) Then, through some internet research of my own, I found glorious Christian at the Gustavo Briand Salon. Christian fixed the yucky neon stripes. He gave me natural looking highlights that I am actually pleased with. It's the first time in my life after getting highlights that I am not running to the local Sally Beauty supply for a dark color that I can self apply at home to get rid of the highlights (after spending $300 on them). Christian is a master with highlights. Then, I had my haircut by Patricia -- also a freakin' master. She gave me the most perfect graduated bob I have ever seen. I wanted to frame my head. She also cut my hair in a way where it only takes me 10 minutes to blow dry. The hair falls right where she said it would. Amazing. And, it's growing out beautifully! Thanks Patricia. The receptionist is very friendly and has the healthiest platinum blonde color job I have ever seen. It is shiny and feels great. Based on what I have observed, Gustavo also seems great with color and cut. And, he has a very eclectic music collection to keep clients entertained. In short, this place is the BEST!! Background: It was my birthday. I hadn't had a haircut (other than a little trim) for over a year (what can I say, I live at an urban farm and had dreadlocks for 7 years). I wanted to switch up my steez and go for some blunt bangs. My boyfriend reached out to some of his hairstylist friends in the music scene and was directed to Gustavo. Experience: SO FABULOUS! Gustavo's studio is petite, mirrored, clean, and friendly...right down the street from Purdy Lounge and with parking across the street. Everyone in the studio was super friendly and made me feel at home. I was treated to champagne while Gustavo worked his magic on my mane. I bought a deal for a Keratin treatment, made sure to read the fine print and look for any hidden charges. At the salon, I spent 2 hours getting my treatment done, with a stylist who was more interested in talking about her life in Miami than doing my hair. She also seemed like she dint know what she was doing! After making pretentious conversation for 2 hours, I walk up to pay and she charges me 25$ more for using extra product!! Nothing was mentioned to me on purchase or when the appointment was made, not even in the 2 hours of doing the treatment! Finally slips me a 25$ extra with a big smile! My hair is shoulder length and not very dense, so i am wondering..extra product?? I was annoyed, but paid. The deal advertised using Coppola Keratin, and thats the brand I have been using the 50 odd times I have done the treatment. I did not recognize the smell of the product while she was applying it, and when questioned she made a silly comment and ignored it. I find my suspicion to be true, as a month after the treatment at this salon, My hair is dry and lacks shine, and Coppola lasts more than 3 months. The salon is dubious, they target people who are new to the beach and have no idea what Keratin is! They try to make the experience great with small talk and candies but wont work with someone who knows the product and has done the treatment many times. BEWARE!. read more

I am used to excellent hairdressers in Europe and the USA. However, I must say that I was fortunate enough to accidentally find Gustavo Briand's Studio. He is an excellent hairdresser and colorist. He is a former top stylist from Vidal Sassoon and this is obvious from his masterful ease with both cutting and color. He is a top notch pro, very charming, kind, and welcoming.
