Mini hot dogs are oddly a local thing in the capital region, and Gus's is my go to every time. I learned about them in 2009 and have been evangelizing about their top notch dogs and burgers since then.

We were in the mood for chili dogs and came across Gus's online. No more than 10 min north of Albany this small divy joint offers indoor and outdoor seating with picnic tables. CASH ONLY. Service was very quick and staff was friendly. Their mini dogs are mini, about half the size of a regular hot dog, you get your choice of the works (meat sauce, mustard, onions, ketchup) or just pick what you like, all for $1.30. They also offer cheese/hamburgers for a very affordable price. We each had two mini hotdogs and 1 cheeseburger. The meat sauce is not chili, wasn't super flavorful but nonetheless still tasty. Very quick stop! Seems like a local place to go.

What a gem in a neighborhood surrounding. Nothing fancy but if your looking for a quick bite or have the munchies this definitely the fix. Hot dogs 4 inches long order 4 . Cheeseburger and Italian beef sandwich were good grilled onions and chili sauce. Service is fast!!! This is not the place for date night but the place to fill the gut with some good food. Inside counter seating and outdoor table and benches. Fortunately I live 2900 miles away or I'd be here regularly.

Fast service, comfortable outdoor seating and delicious mini dogs, and a tasty sausage and peppers sandwich. This was the perfect snack. Beautiful, quiet day to sit outside at the picnic tables.

Great little spot for a quick grab to eat. Prices are cheap, food taste great. This was my first time here and let me tell you. They were busy. So many people stopped by during lunch to grab a quick lunch. The staff was very quick to handle everyone's orders. I was certainly impressed. The gentleman at the window looked miserable. He didn't smile once lol! Oh well. Would try again!

Just look at the pictures. What you see is what you get. Good old fashioned American grub served up the way they've been doing it for years, no pretense, nothing fancy. The hot dogs are tiny little bites with generous spoonfuls of chili, mustard and onions. The sausages are patties and served like burgers, on buns with sautéed onions and green peppers. Dee-Lish-ous!!! If you wanna support local, this is the very definition of a family-owned hole-in-the-wall. Everyone ought to try Gus's, it's that simple. Next time I'm anywhere near Albany, this is my first stop.

First time there after hearing so much about it and although I'm not a fan of the sauce, the dogs and burger were very good, bigger fan of the burger.

We didn't love Gus's. The dogs flavor was underwhelming compared to other spots in the area.

So delicious and expedient! And I couldn't even get this kind of value at other competitors. No pictures because I have an empty plate

Absolutely amazing hot dogs. I think Troy might be the hot dog capital of America. You have to get it with chili and mustard.

Tiny, wrinkled, dry hot dogs- like 1/2 the diameter of Charlie's. Topping were ok. True, they are cheap, but they aren't very good.

Bought a jar of their hotdog sauce at Market 32. Was expecting something close to Hot Dog…read moreCharlie's.... YUCK.... it's basically tomato sauce with onions.... NEVER again!!

Hot. Beef. Sandwich…read more It's hard to think of five bucks better spent. Usually, that sandwich is made of their famous corned beef or pastrami. How famous is their pastrami? Well, it's what they use at Katz's in NYC. Except at Katz's they apparently boil the pastrami before serving it so it totally falls apart. That's what I learned from the passionate fellow behind the counter today. Well, that, and they had no pastrami prepared for sandwiches. Well, I'll just have to come back. For years I've been told of the legend of this place. The place where Old World Provisions meats are sliced and served on bread for a pittance. A manufacturing facility where there is a small retail operation that's open to the public. Helmbold Fritz is like a beacon on a hill. Well, it's on a hill at least. It's a bit tucked away in the warehouse district around the corner from the Franklin Ballroom. And when you pull into the driveway, you have to go around back to get to the front door. It's almost as if they don't want you there. But they totally want you there. Kinda. When I called to ask if they were open for lunch, the response was, "Lunch? We open at 11." I'm unclear if the wooden picnic table around the back of the deli was actually meant for visitors of if its for employees, but we decided to stick around and eat there instead of having a car picnic. It was a glorious day. Part of me is a bit worried about coming back here for pastrami. Because if it's half as good as I suspect it will be, it might be hard to keep me away. That fifth star is being reserved until I try their signature products. But I promise to report back.
