I'll start with the positive. The dumplings were very very good. They were fresh and light and the sauce that they came with was very flavorful. Had I only had the dumplings this review would be at 4 or 5 stars. But, I also ordered general Tso's chicken and chicken fried rice. The rice was average...but for a price of $17 it should have been life changing and it absolutely was not. FYI, if you add any "spice" they just dump the dried peppers on the top of the rice. The general tso's chicken...it was made with white breast meat which is good. But the flavor and the quality is something I'd expect from the frozen food aisle. Extremely disappointing, in addition the broccoli was bland and honesty tasted it like it hadn't been cooked. I'd try the dumplings again if I'm in the area but I won't go out of my way. read more

Every time I'm in Atlanta I have to stop by Gu's Dumplings. The food here is pretty oily, but it's so good. The food sometimes takes a while to come out, but it's worth the wait. The Vegetable Zhong Style Dumplings are very good and pair perfectly with their Homemade Chili Oil. My favorite item on the menu is the Chengdu Cold Noodles, which are so flavorful and great to enjoy on a hot day. The Stir-fried String Beans are very good as well. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The prices are a little high, but so are the prices at a lot of places in Krog Street Market. It's a joke! They charge 16.00 for this! Who are they fooling! Zhong Style Dumplings is not at all like it used to be. It shares overly sweet sauce with Chengdu Cold Noodles and non of spicy mouth numbing mala. When they first opened in Krog Street Market, their food was adjusted to suit the clientele of the area. It was tamed, but not bad, but what happened now! Very disappointing because when Gu's first opened on Buford Hwy, they served true Szechuan food from Chengdu which is the center of Szechuan province. It was excellent and no other Szechuan food like it in Atlanta area. Unfortunately they closed the original location and opened Krog Street and another one on Buford Hwy. Buford Hwy location is nothing like the original one. Small servings at higher prices and the taste seem to have changed. It's all about catering toward masses with uneducated palate. Good, but I don't know that I could call the food life-changing. The dumplings were just fine and the sauce was nice, a little bit spicy and just a tiny bit sweet. However, the filling seemed a little dense and the wrappers were thicker than I might have expected. The Chengdu noodles were also pleasant, a good choice on an unexpectedly hot day. No cilantro, like many Sichuan places would add, but that's a huge point in their favor as far as I'm concerned. I had a short lived heat afterburn going, so that was enjoyable. They have more Asian varieties however, I am not a sucker for a good dumpling and I order the pork dumplings and it was so delicious a little bit of spicy, but a perfect amount of spice. I got the sweet, savory and umami flavors and I would love to go back again and try it. It was such a great portion for six. The milk tea Boba was amazing to. so i visited the website to place a to go order with Gu's Alpharetta location confession: I made the error and selected the wrong location and resulted placing the order with the KROG St location - 1hr 20 min away from me. This place lit me up! I mean that in so many ways. It lit up my taste buds. It lit up my heat-o-meter and I definitely felt it later. It also lit up my wallet, because damn, was it expensive! All in all, the food is a 5 here, so was the service of the young man working the counter. I understand things are always (needlessly) more expensive in these food halls because they are paying higher rent, but even by those already established knowns, it was a really pricey meal. In my case, I was on vacation, and taken on just how delicious things were... I would have gone again. We got the handmade sweet and spicy noodles, a 12 piece order of pork dumplings, and the Chongqing spicy chicken. The stars of this were definitely the dumplings and the noodles. The doughy texture created by not using anything pre-made is extremely evident, and where I am from, there are actually not any places at all to get hand-pulled noodles, so this was a treat. We ended up dipping as much as we could in the sauce that surrounded these noodles, including the Chongqing chicken, which even by my high heat standard definitely lived up to the 3-pepper rating on the menu board! My wife and I both agreed, we would eat these often if we could access them at home, despite the high price. The chicken was also really good, but I ended up eating it mostly alone. It was just too spicy for most at the table, and by eating it more of it myself, I paid the price later. In the end, I would not reorder this, mainly just because I'd want to try other things. The Krog street market was neat, but I do hate how expensive these food halls make things. Gu's Dumplings serves some of the best noodles I've had. The Dan Dan noodles are just spicy enough, have a perfect texture, and a wonderful sauce. They're my favorite. The cold noodles are simple but addicting. The hand pulled noodles are excellent when fresh, but when they're colder they tend to get a bit chewier. That's okay, because it's the only complaint about the noodles. The dumplings are at least the second best I've had anywhere. Six will fill you up if you want a big snack. Skip the meat and sandwich options because while good, they're not great. But that's kind of the point, everything is at least good or better. Just go straight for the noodles or dumplings and you'll love your meal! Food comes out very quickly and the line moves fast. The staff makes it a point to be efficient which is very helpful. The market has parking garages that are almost joined to it. Parking as of July 2023 is $5 for an hour, $8 for 2 hours, or $10 for 4 hours. There is no validation that I'm aware of. Seating can be tough because you're competing with a dozen other venues However, it's a great market to come alone, with a date, or with a family because it's a great vibe. read more

We had planned to check out Krog Street Market anyway, so when I stumbled across some positive reviews for Gu's saying they have the best dumplings in Georgia, that settled it. I had dumplings, veggie spring rolls and an apple soda (meh, that one didn't do it for me). Overall, I'd say they lived up to the hype. The chili oil the dumplings are coated in is incredible, the dough was perfectly springy and the filling delicious. The spring rolls were equally good- with a perfectly crunchy wrapper, flavorful filling and great dipping sauce. Service was fast and friendly. We had our food in under ten minutes on a busy Saturday at lunch time (took us longer for a seat to open up than it did for the food to be ready). Since we were at the stall, I figured to try their Half Order Pork Zhong Style Dumplings in addition to their Handmade Sweet and Spicy Thick Noodles. The dumplings were filled with juicy pork and coated in a sweet and slightly spicy soy sauce which was also the same for their noodles. Being called "thick" is an understatement as they were certainly larger than udon noodles but perfect for soaking in their delicious sauce. These make even better leftovers the next day when they can be further immersed with the flavors. I love Gu's and get takeout frequently, but 3 times in the last 6 months I've ordered the handmade noodles and they have had hardly any sauce. The pork filling was amazing... so flavorful! The sauce was good, but I would have liked some spice to play against the sweetness. The description of the sauce says it's sweet and spicy, but I tasted no spice at all, just sweet. Unfortunately, to add extra spice, there's a charge. Next time, I'll pay it.
