I wish I could give a positive review because I know that Gus is a good guy who wants to help others whenever he can, but my recent experience was so bad that I feel others should be warned. Because I know Gus, I was told that I would be given
"the family rate" which was about $40 less per hour and no charge for the gas--which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the guys who moved us were SO SLOW that the job (which had taken four hours the first two times we moved --and we had a little less this time around) took 7 hours, was completely rushed at the end, and was incomplete. I had already packed and moved everything in boxes--around 60 boxes and had moved half of them to my new house and the other half to a friend's house half a mile away. I did not have any really heavy pieces--just furniture from a three bedroom house. The problem was the three guys Gus sent. They just took their sweet time about everything. I have used movers in the past, and while these guys were nice, they were not professional movers. They did not know how to load the truck to maximize the space. They moved slowly in and out of the house. They stopped and chatted with one another. They took a half an hour lunch break at the new location. (I should have been with them, but sent my daughter who didn't feel comfortable asking them why they were taking a break or whether we would be charged for it). When I heard that they were dilly-dallying around, I called Gus and he met his guys at the first house. Before he got there, I parked my car across the street and watched. One guy was on his phone for 10 minutes, then disppeared into the empty truck for another 10 minutes until Gus showed up. The other guy was slowly carrying small things out of the house--a lamp one time, a small wood piece the next...When Gus came, he got things moving, but by then over four hours had already passed and the furniture was only half moved. Because they had another job in a couple of hours, Gus starting pushing the guys, but it is was bedlam. My cherry wood book shelves were chipped and another piece was scraped pretty bad. NONE OF MY BOXES were carried upstairs into their designated rooms. The guys had dropped a bed off at my other house a couple of blocks away and picked up about 30 boxes, but then they unloaded them willy nilly in the garage so that when we brought the freezer in, everything had to be moved because they had blocked the outlet. They said they couldn't fit my couch in downstairs, though I suspect professional movers would have figured out a way. I asked them to remove the feet on the couch, but they never did. I had twice asked them to move the boxes into the designated rooms, but they never did it. At the last hour, Gus brought in a couple more guys and then told me what a good deal I was getting which would have been laughable had it not been insulting. The reason the job still wasn't done is because his guys were slow, inefficient, and had taken long breaks. In the end, I was charged for 8 hours when they had been there 7. Like I said, I have made this same move twice before, and neither time did it take over 4 hours. This time I had a couple fewer pieces and I had already moved ALL OF THE BOXES! When I talked to Gus about the situation, he was sorry, but defensive. He said he would fire the guy in charge, but that didn't do me any good. He gave me back one hour of time--the hour that never should have been charged in the first place, and then one more hour for time lost, but much, much more than one hour was lost. They spent half an hour just eating pizza while my daughter moved 30 boxes upstairs. If the guys I was paying had moved boxes for that same half an hour, all my boxes would have been moved like I asked. Futhermore, when Gus bought his guys popsicles and drinks, the guys just threw their plastic bottles and popsicle sticks onto my driveway when they were done. They also left my house in such a rush that they left a rug, a light, and some other things that were actually quite difficult for me to later transport in my little car. The movers started out really friendly, but once the pressure was on, the lead mover did a lot of eye rolling when I asked him to move a couple of things into their right locations and some foul language was used which was quite unprofessional. I would never use this company, and I have taken the time to write this because Gus should have supervised his movers more closely and should have done more to compensate me when I told him in detail what the situation had been like. I think this company might be good for small jobs, but if you need professional, efficient, trustworthy movers, this would not be the company to call. read more
