Maybe I went on an off day? I stopped into Gurnee Donuts because I saw all of the good reviews here on Yelp. The gentleman behind the counter was very friendly and helpful, but the donuts themselves just were not good. The Boston cream had maybe one tablespoon of cream inside. The chocolate glazed didn't have any flavor. The blueberry was just ok. I hate saying this because I love going to mom and pop shops, but honestly Dunkin Donuts is much better.

Gurnee Donuts is always great on ube weekends or regular weekdays. Donuts are always fresh, service always friendly, prices reasonable, and the place is always clean. Ube Weekends -- get there early!

I used to love this place! I would wake up early to get there and get some ube donuts before they ran out! But its been a couple years and I am in town so I decided to come in and get a does around 10 in the morning. This inside had a few chairs which people could sit inside. The server was very quick when taking my order. I walked in ans it looked the same as it was before. I ordered a dozen donuts and I was so shocked at how small they are now.. i got chocolate glaze, ube sprinkles, vanilla sprinkles, chocolate sprinkles and some Boston cream donuts. The donuts were smaller than I remember but using the same recipe so the flavor was more concentrated and they were way too sweet.. honestly they werent made with love.. another example of what happens when business prioritize profits over quality. So disappointing..

Gurnee Donuts is a gem! A small, family-owned business with super friendly and helpful service. We went in planning to grab just two donuts and left with a dozen--and a coffee! There's a steady flow of regulars, which says a lot. Great variety, fun flavors, and everything was fresh and delicious. You can tell they put care and love into what they do. We'll definitely be back!

I decided to try this place based on Yelp reviews. The shop is located in a strip center alongside several other ethnic restaurants and stores. I got a chocolate cake donut and an apple fritter. There are a couple of tables for those who want to sit and have coffee. The staff member who helped us wasn't particularly friendly, but he wasn't rude either. The donuts aren't labeled, so we had to ask about the options. Overall, the donuts were average--not the best, but not the worst.

It is located in a unit of a multi-use commercial building. Upon approaching, the location is clean and clear of any trash or hazards. Very small area in the front to sit and eat. The hours are clearly noted on the door. When entering the building, there was a sweet aroma that was inviting. The facility was clean with a display of donuts just in front of me and a cooler with drinks to the right. I was looking at the purple donut, which the kind gentleman advised was the "purple sweet potato" donut. The display is nice with purple frosting and purple sprinkles. He also advised that this is one of the biggest sellers. I hear this business is locally owned and operated. All of the donuts looked delicious in a nicely displayed. They offer long John's, crullers, sprinkled, glazed, honey buns, and many more. I purchased two of the purple sweet potato and an apple fritter. I was not too impressed with the purple sweet potato, but the apple fritter was delicious. The price, I'm not too sure about that. Roughly $10 for 3 items seems a bit steep.

I had to hit up Gurnee donuts because I was in the area on a Sunday morning. Most of the donuts sold were traditional. The raised dough was a little off on texture/taste and not so sweet. The cake and buttermilk were alright. I really liked their ube donut the most. It was soft, fluffy, and moist.

Gurnee Donuts is good but not something I would drive out of my way for often. If your coming from Chicagoland area like most of us, it could be an hour drive or more. My wife likes coming here cuz she's Filipino so she wants to contribute to her people in the small business community. I would say it's worth the drive if you're also heading to Six Flags, Gurnee Mills mall or the outlet mall in Pleasant Prairie, WI. We definitely make a day out of it for our shopping trips. The donuts are fresh & made daily, their ube selections are what we mostly desire but there's also other variety like a red velvet cake donut & cherry old fashioned which was surprisingly good as I don't eat much cherry of anything. They also had an ube cinnamon roll for once which I had to try, needless to say it wasn't to my liking..too sweet for me with the glaze then added cream cheese frosting & sugar sprinkles as well. Overall, I would recommend this establishment if you're a big sweet tooth fan & if you're Filipino, at least make the trip out here once just to satisfy your curiosity. All in all, I would say it is a definite must try if you're in the area or passing through Gurnee on the highway but not a solo reason to make the trip up here for.

I ordered my wedding donuts from Gurnee Donuts and it was SO delicious! Kevin was amazing to work with. I had very specific donut order (color, type of donut, etc.) and he was so patient with me on detailed request. Not only it was so tasty and moist, it looked so pretty on our donut wall. I wanted to support local donut shop and Gurnee donut had the best tasting and the most unique selection for very reasonable price. Thank you so much for amazing donuts!! I'd highly recommend them to my friends and family! read more

In my humble opinion, the best donuts around...hands down! Love all the donuts they make. You can tell it's fresh and made with care and love. Only problem is they run out too fast if you don't make the early morning run. But that's my fault, not the owners, I give them 5/5 because the donuts are excellent and that's all that matters. Also, they make a great latte with a Lamarzocco espresso machine. read more

I've never been to the actual store (Gurnee is waaaay to far from the city for me). However, my friend ordered the ube doughnut holes (glazed, coconut, fruity pebbles, and Oreo covered) for our friend's baby shower. And it was a hit for the whole party!! I looooved them and everyone loved them. Not just the ube flavor and the topping but the texture and flavor of the doughnut hole itself was so unique and very addicting!! Everyone from the party took some home with them. I had a few the next day with my coffee and it was a perfect pairing. I wish this place was in the city so I could keep a stash in my home for a sweet snack, dessert or breakfast. Wonderful job on the ube doughnuts! I'm a fan! read more

Wow! What a find...the reviews were spot on. Their old fashion and apple fritters are to die for. Crispy and the right amount of sweetness. The donuts here are delicious and fresh. I mainly come here for the Ube Donuts which are only available on the weekends. The ube donuts are moist on the inside and crispy on the outside. If you are unfamiliar with Ube it is a purple yam, very popular in filipino desserts. I prefer the glaze ube topping, but they also have ones with coconut shavings and a regular ube flavor. I've also had their apple fritter which is delicious. I highly recommend this place over Dunkin donuts. Must try. read more

I wished I lived in Gurnee so I can eat gurnee donuts everyday. They are so delicious and are my absolute favorite donuts. I am salivating thinking about them right now. Obsessed with the apple fritter donuts. Even their long johns are awesome (def better than DD). It tastes so fresh and moist. I have no idea how donuts are made but whatever they do at Gurnee Donuts, they are doing it right! The staff is pretty friendly too :) read more

The best donuts in town. Always fresh and tasty. Sometimes you get there and they are warm out of the oven!!! I would suggest that the frosting not be so thick and piled on top but rather spread evenly at the top of the donut. Other then that best donuts! read more

To be fair, it could be that I'm old school or just accustomed to a different type of Donut being that I was born & raised in upstate NY. I'm also a fan of Dunken Donuts. We got a variety of donuts and sampled each of them. The boston cream, chocolate and sour cream were good donuts. The jelly filled was blah, as were the cinnamon and powered. The peanut was downright disappointing. WIth that being said, after my first visit to Gurnee Donuts, and after tasting several of their donuts, I've concluded that I would not go the extra miles or out of my way to come back here. Granted, if I was already in the area, perhaps I would stop in for a boston cream. read more

I was in here the other day and tried a chocolate long john. It was, easily, the best I have ever had! It had a slight crunch on the outside and very soft inside. If I'm in the area again, I will be stopping back in! I grabbed two apple fritters to go, cause they are my absolute favorite. I had them for breakfast this morning & I now have a new favorite baker! This is the greatest donut place in America! Yes, I truly mean that. I lived in Chicago and had all the different Artisan donut places that are 3x the cost. They don't compare with Gurnee donuts. Without question you have to get their buttermilk donut. It's where dreams are made! read more

Gurnee Donuts is one of the best donuts in the Chicago area. These are real donuts, made in the back and from scratch, not from a mix. It is far from Chicago, but if you're driving up to Wisconsin or going to Gurnee Mills, its an easy detour. The hours are a little strange, I think they close at 3 p.m. I am a cake donut fan and Gurnee's are excellent. The apple fritter is good too. The earlier you go the better the selection, The people who own it are pleasant and nice. If you're on the quest for the perfect donut, Gurnee Donuts should be one of your stops. read more

I have lived in Waukegan, on and off for over 10 years (long story). I have seen Gurnee Donuts, but I think it just never registered, when I would be coming home from work. (I work midnights). So, I finally stopped there the other morning, and OH MAN. Brian C. said that the Apple Fritter tastes like it should. He is spot on. It is soft, and has little bits of apple it in. It is PERFECT, very moist. I also had a boston kreme donut, and it was smooth, and moist as well. A+++ for Gurnee Donuts! I will be stopping there in the morning, for sure! read more

This is a really small donut shop near Six Flags. We were all really worried when Krispy Kreme opened up down the road from this place, but 5 years later Krispy Kreme is out of business and Gurnee Donuts is still flourishing! Donuts are not normally a part of my diet, but occasionally I do give in and when I am in the mood for donuts I want to go here! This is one of the rare donut shops--they actually put filling inside their filled donuts (what a concept!). Most donut shops in the area skimp on filling and icing, and then serve stale products too boot. However, every time I've been to Gurnee Donuts I've received freshly made products and the bakers didn't skimp on the fillings. read more

REALLY delicious cake and raised (glazed type) with a big fat size and slight cinnamon taste. I'm giving one less star because they close at or before 3 PM, so no evening stops on the way home from work. The owner-operator has a fun, engaging personality. We bought Apple Fritters, Cake donuts and were given a raised strawberry donut to try/sample. Each one had a delicious flavor where you could tell the baker has pride in her efforts which resulted in your wanting more! Dangerous! LOL!!! Fairly priced, semi-small parking area in a strip mall might be problematic in busy mornings. I'd go out of my way for these gems! read more

Gurnee donuts is by far our favorite donut place. They always have yummy fresh donuts and amazing flavors. Today they exceeded our expectation and brought an idea to life. I called last week and asked for a decorate your own donut kit for my kids and Kevin said he would make it. Wow we were amazed at how awesome it was. My kids loved the different frosting colors and putting their own sprinkles on. My little guy wants them for every holiday now. Can't wait to order more! Thank you Kevin and Gurnee Donuts! read more

You can smell the aroma of our creations everyday if your driving by. We open daily at 6am and attempt to stay open until 2pm. We'll only close our doors early if we run out of donuts. They have a pretty vast menu. You can see the love that goes into this family owned business. I decided to try the mango sticky rice matcha and the ube hojicha latte. The Ube beverage was great, the ube flavor stands out pretty strong unlike most ube coffee drinks I've had elsewhere. The mango sticky rice was delish, it was sweet but not overly sweet and the cream made a huge difference in the drink. Highly recommend. Overall we had a great fine and would recommend if you're looking for a fusion coffee shop to try!

We were the only ones there at the time so we were able to place an order right away. The display of different types of mini donuts needs a little bit of work I thought. They just put up old donuts against the glass and it didn't look very appetizing. They make fresh donuts right in front of you (which is amazing). I wish the dipping and sprinkling process was a bit more efficient and presentable. They dipped the donuts in buckets of frostings with their hands (gloves on). Perhaps using a tong and keeping the frosting in a more presentable container would help. It also takes a bit of time to make since it is freshly made. The donuts are very good, especially when they're fresh. They do get a bit chewy and the frostings start to taste a bit stale after a day so need to make sure to eat them all the same day. I ordered the chocolate, French toast, strawberry, cinnamon sugar, m&m, pebbles and the cookies and creme flavors. The chocolate dip doesn't really taste like chocolate but more like runny chocolate syrup. The white sugar frosting is good. I would definitely go back for some more fresh cinnamon sugar donuts.

With a quick Yelp search, I stumbled upon a place that claimed to have the holy grail of doughnuts: red velvet doughnuts. Excitement filled the air as I discovered that this seemingly magical doughnut haven was just a stone's throw away. As the super dad that I am, I decided to surprise my family with these tantalizing treats. Now, let me paint the picture of disappointment for you. Brace yourselves. Picture this: I walk into the doughnut spot, my heart racing with anticipation. But lo and behold, they didn't have the legendary red velvet doughnuts! My hopes were crushed like a doughnut under an elephant's foot. But, undeterred, I decided to go with their bow tie doughnuts instead. Big mistake. I presented the bow tie doughnuts to my family, expecting cheers and applause. But oh, how wrong I was. These doughnuts were a dry desert in a sea of flavor. Sweetness? Non-existent. Moisture? The donuts here at Gurnee Donuts are simply amazing! Let me tell you about their maple bacon that I had, it was hands down the best I've ever tasted. But that's not all. I also tried their chocolate frosted yeast donut and a blueberry cake donut, and both were absolutely wonderful. Every bite was a burst of flavor! Their products are unique and delicious.
