While the first time we visited for dinner we had slow service, service has been prompt since then. Flavorful chicken momo, fresh saag (the chicken tikka saag is really good with nice fresh ginger as a garnish), and a very good buffet with choices not seen at the other Indian places in town. I'm dinging them a star as sometimes the naan is slightly dry and their chai isn't the best in town (though good). I hope they do well and get to the point where business allows them to make some improvements to the location. If you go and are unfamiliar with the "Gunbarrel Cultural Center", Gurkhas is located back in a corner in the strip mall just to the south of King Soopers. It is next door to the Gunbarrel Athletic Club, on the same side of the strip mall as Page Two. We look forward to their expanded menu. read more

If you are looking for a fantastic, but easy going dinner, you have to try Gurkhas! My boyfriend and I have gone here twice now and it is quickly becoming my favorite place! The atmosphere is very relaxing-pleasant music and dim lighting. And the service is STELLAR! Roger was our server both times and he is truly terrific at what he does! He was very knowledgable and answered all of our questions. I was super pleased by all of the vegan options, as well. Gurkhas is the perfect spot for any group of people with varying dietary restrictions and palates (even kids)! Fantastic restaurant! I'm almost hesitant to write this review, because I want to keep this place all to myself. The first time there I was feeling classic and ordered the tikka masala (chicken) and was absolutely blown away by how delicious it was. Branched out more recently and got the vegetable momo, the honey naan, and the mango lassi. No regrets about any of them- This is my new regular place! From my experience, this restaurant is typically on the empty side; I enjoy that, but it might not be for those craving a bit more ambiance. Great, hearty food with wonderful flavors! If you're not accustomed to this type of restaurant, beware of the heat scale when ordering food. I am a baby when it comes to spicy-ness and I would go 0,1, or 2.. We ordered a 6 and everyone was sweating haha! But still, a great meal with lovely textures and favors. I did not have the chance to read the reviews on this restaurant before dining there. Now that I have, I would say that if you took all of them and mixed them together, you would get an extremely fair portrayal of Gurkhas. I ate there for dinner and this was my experience: Walking in, the restaurant is very simple in its decor. I had heard their lunch buffet was really popular; however, by being the only group there I thought that maybe we had made a mistake. Sitting down, I looked around and didn't see anyone else working except the one gentleman who sat us. He was very kind and polite. He quickly came over and turned over what I can only imagine is a traditional Indian copper vessel and poured us water and took drink orders. I noticed that he was the host, the waiter, and was taking quite a few take out orders, which I came to realize is how they do most of their dinner business. After learning it was my grandfathers anniversary with my late grandmother, he comp't the chai for both he and my mother. He also brought us a complimentary appetizer on top of the two that we had ordered, the Vegetable Pakora and the Onion Kulcha Naan (both of which were great). Our waters were kept full as well as the chai, without us needing to ask once. Our food was soon to arrive, by another gentleman, and it was fabulous! We ordered the Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Zalfrezi and Chicken Tika Saag. When I asked for the Tika Saag to be spicy, he warned me that if I hadn't eaten there before and wasn't accustomed to their version of spicy I better stick with medium or maybe try medium-spicy because most people cry with spicy... my kind of restaurant! It ended up being spicy enough for my mom to not be able to eat it and I could definitely taste the spice; however, next time I may increase the heat (I like really spicy food). Before we left two other groups had arrived for dinner as well, leaving it not such a baron restaurant after all. Now...I did read one review that talked about the restaurant being gross and mainly the women's bathroom being unclean. As far as using the facilities goes, there was plenty of soap, paper towels and the toilets themselves were very clean. I will agree that the floors, etc. lacked a certain cleanliness that would have been what most consider to be standard; however, it was not anywhere near enough to scare me away from the restaurant. If you're like me, you will read this review, and then will read others to try to talk yourself into going here perhaps because its convenient or cheap. However, I have been eating here since it opened, and it used to be decent, but recently it just gets worse and worse. I can't even believe I ended up there again today after the terrible meal I had there last time (must be early onset Alzheimers). I arrived at 2pm for the lunch buffet (they close at 2:30). As I walked in the cashier looked at his watch and was inconvenienced by having me come in (I realized that I was the only one). That should have been a sign for me to leave. The buffet was less than mediocre - cold, old and tasteless (perhaps you just need to come earlier). I tried to order off the menu (no luck). The service was no better. Personally I think there are much better Indian restaurants a short drive north or south. I paid for my food - at lunch, and afterward....blech. read more

Truly a "hole in the wall," an awesome restaurant. I went in and Manny made me and my friend feel right at home. The remodeled interior looks great, and they just installed two brand-new TV's that will have sports games. Being of Asian Indian heritage I keep away from "Indian" restaurants for the usual reasons - taking custom for granted, serving up insanely spiced food, poor service, and inauthentic cuisine. But the roadside eateries (or dhabas) in Crystal City, VA or the diner at a gas station near Terre Haute, IN; the Saravanas in CA, the diners at Devon in Chitown are good. Now there's really nothing like "Indian Cuisine" There's probably not even anything like Pakistani/Bangladeshi/Nepali/Sri Lankkan cuisine. There are 100s (1000s?) of regional variations on certain themes - and we aren't yet getting started on the multitude of cuisines in India's Northeastern states - the Seven Sisters. Gurkhas serves Nepali mid-country fare. This has accents from the Indian regions bordering Nepal, it's not drowned in garam masala, and is hearty and light. I've eaten in Kathmandu and Pokhra and had simple fare and enjoyed it greatly. Gurkhas adds a touch of flair and serves it up in spades. Marvelous! Gurkhas may easily have the nicest "Indian Lunch Buffet" in the Western Hemisphere. Yesterday's meal was fantabulous. For one thing every dish was fresh and piping hot. Second it had been made from scratch with fine ingredients. Yesterday Gurkhas served an okra stir fry. Indian restaurateurs rarely serve okra (except in the South where you can buy it fresh) as it's expensive. But the folks at Gurkha, it seems, believe in serving good food, no exceptions! There were three chicken dishes and each one was a masterpiece. The noodles, as only Nepali cuisine can make it; the chana dal or lentil soup, the different chutnies and the dessert! We had carrot pudding (it was made with milk as it should be and not ghee) rice pudding. And the gulab jamun we had was certainly made just that day - an impossible at an Indian restaurant! I recommend the Nepali beer if you can get it next time. Great food! Great service! And great ambience - insist on Nepali pop and rock n' roll! read more

Ordered my last take-out meal there this past winter, and it was not a very enjoyable dinner. All the sauces of the varied and different dishes we ordered (chicken tikka masala, veggie korma) looked the same, with an odd pink hue to them, and tasted, well.... no so good. Great food. I was a little unsure of ordering due to past instances with Indian food but I decided to overlook them and give this place a try. The only issue I found was that their online ordering system isn't working. Which they tell you to call and confirm your order anyway so he took my order when I called. I had the Mango Lassi (creamy, sweet, and a little tart), the Lamb Tikki Saag (lamb was spiced great and the spinach sauce was delicious), the Butter Naan bread (warm, soft, and just nice), and the Gulab Jamun (very sweet, light on the tongue, and subtle flavor). This place has amazing healthy food, with good portions at a reasonable price! We've had everything on the menu and its all delicious freshly/made food from scratch. You can get all entrees in a range from mild to hot'n' spicy. We eat there at least once a week for our "Gurkas Good-Food Crave" and its always the same people there...so it feels like our "neighborhood bar". We also like to get their chef made "American Breakfast" brunch on Saturday mornings and there is never a wait. Highly recommend this place! It's a hidden secret. read more

For one of our wedding events we wanted an Indian meal catered through a family restaurant. Ghurkas was highly recommended for their food, service and being a family run business. They did a phenomenal job of catering our 125 person event. Our guests loved their food- it was tasty, delicious and spicy. Their curries were really rich and their naans were fresh. I have to admit, I was a little nervous because this was their first time catering an event this size, however, the food quality was exceptional. I would highly, highly recommend them. A couple of things to note, if catering tea, you would need to source your own pots as they don't have them. Also if ordering for a large party, I would increase the amount you order for your guests, we ordered for 110 people for a 125 person wedding (20 kids). A combination of their food being such a big hit, and our ordering being a little conservative, the food was just enough for our event, but it was a close call. Regardless, I would highly recommend Ghurkas and want to thank them for helping make our wedding event special with their delicious cooking. read more

The food was edible, but I probably will not be doing business with them again. Definitely pricey for quality and quantity. Mild apparently is the same as bland, (which I could live with/learn from,) and wouldn't stop me from ordering again. As someone who has eaten quite a lot of amazing Indian food, I have to say I was thoroughly disappointed. For the prices that I paid I was expecting great flavorful food. The sagg paneer was flavorless and watery and the chicken masala was dry, which is hard to do with masala. I am not eating here again and would not reccomend it to others. read more

EXCELLENT food. Terrible delivery. Do not order delivery. The first time they got our order slightly wrong - not a huge deal. The second time was during a really bad snowstorm after a harrowing drive home. Ordered delivery. They took the order, the called over an hour later asking why we hadn't picked it up. My husband gamely picked it up. No discount no nothing. Would have had a coupon if delivery had happened like requested when ordered. Again - food is great. Service is not good. read more

We LOVE this place!!!!! And not just for one reason. We moved here from Florida and had a plethora of great Indian/Nepalese restaurants available to us so we were skeptical at first because we knew it would be hard to beat what we'd already had. Gurkhas has topped it all. Not only is the service incredibly good but we have never had a bad dish from them. We've tried so many new things and never had any issues!! We love the food from this place. Always on point! Not too expensive, convenient location and super friendly staff. What else could we ask for! We live in Boulder and ventured to Gunbarrel and discovered Gurkas Restaurant. It's kind of tucked back in a corner near King Soopers at the Gunbarrel Shopping Center. We love Indian food and have eaten at just about every Indian restaurant in and near Boulder. I'll have to say this place is definitely in my top 3. I love the Nepali twist to the food - like the Samosa Chat - incredibly good. We tried the Biryani, Aloo Gobi and other traditional dishes and they were awesome. If you go you have to try the Coconut Curry, it's one of the best curries ever. Service was exceptional and the cook himself came out to check on us. If you like Indian food this place is a must. read more

Was visiting CU Boulder and looked for Nepalese/Himalayan/Indian restaurants. After reading reviews, decided to check out Gurkhas. It was great. Lentil soup was awesome, and all dishes were light and very flavorful. Owner was very personable and even comped us a dish of desserts that were so good! Restaurant was clean, service thumbs up.
