My friend accidentally ate a hot pepper, which looked more like a scallion, so it might have been a Thai chili since it burned her mouth. Needless to say, I finished that dish. The waiters came over to help clear dishes off the table, since ours was rather small. They offered to refill our drinks, and if we wanted any dessert before providing the check. My only criticism was how close the tables were to one other. I felt cramped, and worried if I was going to accidentally knock into someone or spill something on their table to ruin their experience.

Well in 2000 I moved to the US in 2000 and since then it's been pretty much a kick in the balls where curry has been concerned. But now I'm visiting the UK for a few months and this place was recommended to me. It's small place with a polite staff. The menu is broad enough that there is something for everyone but not so large that decision making is made difficult. I had the vegetable momos (basically pot-stickers), then the mushroom rice with king prawn vindaloo with a side of alloo chat. The rice was unreal - best rice I've ever eaten and the vindaloo was as it should be - hot and flavorful. The side dishes are more than one person would need and over-ordering was easy. No bad thing because the next days meal was great too! I wish the people that owned the Indian restaurants in Brooklyn would come here and get schooled in the cuisine they serve to an unwitting public. So happy I found this place, I'll be here once a week minimum! I even joined their frequent diner program on my first visit!

The service is pretty good- we ordered water and a soft drink which arrived at a normal time, but they didn't refill our water jug. The food arrived within a normal amount of time as well and it was piping hot. The restaurant is air conditioned so that always helps in the summer. The only thing we didn't like was how long the bill took. We couldn't flag down a waiter and had to go to the bar to ask to pay. I do love the extras they give you at the end- we got a bowl of sliced oranges and a mint with the bill.

Even though some the desserts weren't available the staff were helpful and everything they recommended was delicious, it was also my first experience of having Irish coffee (not really being a coffee fan) it was amazing. The staff were lovely, really happy to answer any queries about the food we had and recommending dishes and wine, despite spending over 2 hours there, we never once felt rushed or that we were holding up people waiting for tables. At the end of the meal the manager came over and was chatting to us (we were trying to convince him to expand to north London or at least Wandsworth) he was very happy to accept our compliments and offered us a further drink on the house before we left. The gaudy orange sign, and the tinted windows with old men just hanging around the entrance made the restaurant seem less than inviting. I never notice any diners in there, maybe thats just the tinted windows. But a friend was visiting from out of town, and amused by the name - decided we should give it a try. And holy crap.. was I missing out! The restaurant itself is dimly lit and quite dark, so I'm not sure why the windows are tinted as well. The waiters were quite friendly and served us papadoms with assorted chutneys to start. For a small restaurant, they have an extensive menu along with exclusive items, but we didn't know what to order since everything was pretty much chicken / lamb / seafood mixed with "exotic spices, tomato, onion, and peppers"... but I think this is common for a lot of Indian restaurants. Anyhow, we ordered the Rogan E-Murgh (chicken in medium spice sauce), Tandoori E-Bahar (chicken in special cream sauce) and the lamb xacuti (lamb with fennel seeds, garlic ginger, and other spices) - all ranging between £7-£8. The descriptions are pretty weak, but honestly - I think you can just pick any dish, it'll be great! The food took about 30-35 minutes, a bit too long, considering we were the only diners and it was 9:30pm - but it was definitely worth the wait! The Rogan Murgh was really nice and flavorful saucy dish, the chunks of chicken breast were really tender, my only complaint was that it wasn't spicy at all. The Xacuti was a really nice lamb dish, more on the dry side (ie: no sauce), and the meat was extremely tender. Served underneath the meat was grilled green pepper. The sauce was nicely done, but also had a sour kick to it - I wouldn't have guessed it would be sour at all, but I really enjoyed it. The clear winner was the Tandoori E-Bahar dish: shredded chicken in a sweet curry sauce with raisins, tomato, (potato?), and topped with shredded almonds. In the end, the bill came out to £11 per person (we each had a curry dish, naan and papadom). Definitely a decent price for some excellent Indian food! Not sure what I'm gonna order next time.. the menu descriptions certainly don't do the food any justice, so I think I'm gonna have to randomly choose some other dishes to try. Other things to note about the restaurant: - all the ladies get roses at the end of the meal. A bit cheesy, but still nice :) - for any takeaway or delivery order over £25, they will throw in a bottle of house red or white wine, along with a rose - their menu states that they have been featured and recommended in several publications - all meat is Halal - portion sizes are very generous for the price! - flame-heated metal trays were used for our curries, so they stayed hot the entire time - there's an automatic 12.5% gratuity
