Being gluten free in the south is so difficult, so I was so pleased to stumble upon Guncles! Stopped in on a Saturday morning and they had everything neatly arranged, clean inside, friendly staff, plenty of parking. We got the cinnamon roll, cheddar biscuits, chocolate Bundt cake, and oatmeal cream pies. Everything was delicious! The size of the cinnamon roll could've been bigger but I don't think you could tell the difference from a normal cinnamon roll. It was all fresh and decadent. 10/10 if you're gluten free! read more

Whilst getting eyeglasses in Mobile, my friend found a gluten free bakery where we could get pastries and tea. He knows how difficult it is for me being intolerant to gluten. We arrived at Guncles and were greeted by lovely Tamica, and so many choices of goodies. This might sound strange, but I'm a highly sensitive person and I pick up on the overall feel of an environment. This lovely establishment has " great feels" I felt so happy to be there it was welcoming. It was an hour before closing Tamica said some of the most popular things, such as cinnamon rolls sell out fast. Next time I will arrive early. Because I bake GF at home I understand the cost of high quality non gmo, organic, GF ingredients, and I was pleasantly surprised that they are able to offer such high quality GF pastries at about the same price I would see in a regular bakery. When I tasted the how fantastic, delicious and moist, and how they nailed the textures I was delighted!! Ten out of ten. I'm not easy to impress and yet, I am very impressed. It's certainly worth the drive over the bridge for me. Everything was ready to take away in cute little cellophane bags. They have chairs and tables so it's possible to eat inside or outside, but we grabbed ours to go. I also had a nice Lavender Earl Grey tea. My friend had the delicious carrot cake and I had a little lemon and raspberry loaf that was scrumptious. I would have purchased some loaves of bread to take home, but they were already sold out. This is a small family business built because a family member had a health issue. Guncles has been recognized and earned awards as a top bakery and the pastries are so superior you wouldn't even know they are gluten free. I just finished a 10 day tour of the US South and made sure to stop by this gluten-free bakery while staying in Mobile, Alabama. This is everything that I bought at Guncles gluten-free bakery in Mobile, Alabama this past Saturday! I purchased: 1 cinnamon roll. $5.98 2 pack of oatmeal creme pies. $13.98 1 Raspberry lemon friand. $7.98 3 pack of cheddar herb biscuits $8.98 Mobile, Alabama sales tax is 10% which added another $3.69 to our bill for a total of $40.61 I've been to 33 US states and this is in my top 2 favorites for gluten-free bakeries. Yes, it is spendy so it is a treat, but these were INDISTINGUISHABLE from gluten products. It was shocking how the texture was so on point. I was diagnosed 3 years ago and I remember how "regular" food tastes and this tastes like the real thing. If I could only get one item, I'd get the cheddar herb biscuits. They were incredible. I had my non-celiac husband try everything and he said it tasted like the real thing. A male staff member walked us through the options and suggested a mini cake. We had to pass because we were not going to be anywhere with a refrigerator for the rest of the day. We got these items to-go because we had to be in Mississippi before lunch time. This is a deeply troubling review to have to give. I have loved this place since January of 2020. Everything was the best. Friday, (3/6/26) I stopped in Mobile and got my usual cookies chocolate chip and ginger snaps. They were not very good. The price seems to have almost doubled. And the actual cookies appear to be smaller. They were out of oatmeal cookies so i bought some at Page and Pallet in Fairhope later that afternoon. The oatmeal are my fav and used to be the best I've ever had. Not anymore and the coffee shop marks up the price for the smaller size oatmeal cookies that are not that good anymore. In total I spent almost $50 for four packs of cookies. The cookies that I bought are falling apart when you touch them. You can't even taste the toffee in the oatmeal anymore and I ended up throwing them away tonight. Very disappointing. It's been about a year since I've bought their cookies and other treats - what happened! read more

Okay - let me say this right out of the gate - the service at this place is PHENOMENAL. Jacob was our server and gave us a complete "tour" of the delicious items on offer for the day. He was awesome. Needless to say, we wanted one of everything and couldn't do it, but settled on the signature cinnamon roll, the cheddar biscuits, the banana bread and the chocolate cake with chocolate ganache and peppermint. I love Guncles so much that we arranged our travel schedule to be able to come here on our drive back from Pensacola! So often, gluten free foods just taste slightly off. Not at Guncles. Their baguettes rock every fiber of my being! This time, we got some take home cinnamon rolls. MMM MMM MMM!!! Absolutely delicious. Further, the owners are awesome: so kind and personable. The customer service was top notch. The employee helped us by showing us what their best sellers were and gave us her recommendations. My daughter decided to get some cookies and cupcakes. That is not the case at this incredible bakery! I happened on it while visiting the mobile area and searching for GF places to eat. Gotta' give it up to the Guncles! If you'd have told me a while ago that I'd be chasing down ANYTHING that's gluten free, I'd have laughed in your face! I had to pull my car over after my first bite of their Blueberry-Lemon Friand. So many emotions washed over me as the lemon popped and the sweetness of the blueberries hit me. I come home and my foodie little sister and my chef little cousin tell me about this Gluten Free place called Guncles Gluten Free. Not having a medical condition requiring such a diet, I said I'll take a hard pass. But they assured me that the food was good and their coffee was even better. I wanted a coffee with a little more kick so I opted for a Nicaraguan Light Roast that was delicious. Smooth, Sweet (even before I added the plant based zero calorie sweetener) with a great aroma. Drank the coffee black and there are very few coffees I can drink black. My sister being the Charming Southern Bell that she is wrangled use samples of the sweets made in house. They were Devine! They caused my sister to break out in song, I think she was too cold to start dancing! Yes, she does that when eating really, really good food! Because I was in town during the holidays and because my time was short I didn't get to make a second visit. You must give this little gem a try, you just won't be disappointed! Ok I'm pretty sure the team at Guncles are a bunch of wizards. I've had gluten free treats and usually find them quite sandy/gritty. But Guncles seems to have stumbled upon a perfect ratio that gives their cookies and little cakes a perfect mouthfeel that allows you to feel like you are just 100% indulging. I had some toffee brown butter chocolate chip cookies and the owner informed me that they even make the toffee for the cookies in-house. They were unreal amazing. Then the manager told me the strawberry cake was actually ***balsamic*** strawberry cake. So Guncles is not just making GF treats and calling it a day. I have Celiac so this place has made me so happy! I've tried most of their items and my favorite is the oatmeal cream pie. For Mardi Gras I got the Kings Cake and many people who celebrated with me preferred it over the kings cake with gluten! I definitely recommend getting a full size cake from Guncles. The very best cinnamon rolls our family of 4 has ever tasted, gluten free or otherwise. So delicious we went back for a 2nd day in a row, abandoning our other plans. They were sold out of fresh ones due to our late morning arrival, so go early to ensure you get warm ones! We did bring back some frozen, "deconstructed" ones to bake ourselves. Otherwise we tried almost everything on the menu since we were so excited to find a dedicated GF bakery. Our 2nd favorite was the Cheddar Herb biscuits! Oh my goodness! This place is sooo wonderful! When I walked in and tasted the lemon cake, I did a happy dance. I nearly cried. Seriously. I did not know I could ever have treats this amazing now that I'm medically gluten free. The chocolate chip cookies are not good for gluten free. They are just plain good! My husband who can eat anything, swooned. The buttermilk biscuits are delicious! I also got the chocolate cake and I'm serving that and the pumpkin cake to guests tomorrow.
