I have visited the Tukwila store many times. I have purchased a lot of gear there over the years including an acoustic amp an electric keyboard and two guitars. But when it comes to actual service you gotta be patient. I would tell anyone thinking about buying something there to keep it simple. Know what you want before walking in and don't be swayed by any of the BS corporate upsell and for Heaven's sake find a legit luthier or an independent guitar shop for your service needs. I cringe when I see some of the train wrecks that are working there. 3 stars (on their very best day). If there was a reasonable alternative I wouldn't be writing this. read more

Please avoid taking your instrument to this store's repair shop. I brought in my custom Riggio guitar for a standard setup, and during the process, the technician damaged the finish. I was told that a product they used reacted with their work mat, causing the color from the mat to transfer onto my guitar's body. Since March, I've been waiting for the guitar to be fixed. I even had to contact Joe Riggio personally so he could redo the paint because the shop said they couldn't handle the repair themselves and even contact Joe Riggio it was to complicated for them. As of today (10/27/25), I'm still waiting for my guitar to be returned. I've tried multiple times to contact the repair manager, Shane Lemmons, but he has not responded to my emails, and it's very difficult to reach him by phone. At this point, I don't know what else to do -- I'm even considering taking legal action. read more

Needed to restring my guitar and it was going to take a week to get back and I ended up buying two more guitars. Did I need it? No. But YOLO, I couldn't help myself. A Christmas present for myself. I wanted a smaller guitar because I got short arms like a T-Rex. Lol kidding but I like them smaller, it's more comfortable for me. People were nice here. Will I be back? Probably. FOR THE LOVE of GOD STAY AWAY!!!!! I travel a lot and like to normally buy a new guitar everytime I travel to a new city. Normally shipping is ever an issue after ordering even with me living remotely. This just so happened to be my first time going to a brick and mortar Guitar Center. Unfortunately, Not a great spot. Employees couldn't be bothered to answer questions. Was like pulling teeth to buy a guitar. Staff member who unfortunately had to do their job fumbled through the purchasing process resulting in ordering issues. Upon returning home and trying to contact the Store with a total hold time of 45 minutes in 9 different calls I gave up, and decided to reach out to the headquarters customer service. This resulted in no information regarding my order and having to be placed in contact with another store's manager just to find out that he has to do the same thing to get in contact with the original purchasing store. Needless to say I'm still in Limbo and have no idea where or what the status of my order is. Guitar Center needs to take the time and retrain these individuals or just fire them and find folks who actually can complete the job. Will not be gambling on guitar center ever again. ******UPDATE****** I just received guitar. Neck cracked and strings shipped on and tight. Staff dropped this guitar before sending it out and still sent out a broken product. Photos of crack. Zoom in and you can see 2 impact indentations. Paul S. I live about an hour away, so called before coming in to try a Taylor 414ce Studio they had in stock. Naomi helped me and confirmed they had one. She was friendly and helpful. Austin helped me compare a few guitars and evaluated my trade-in (a beautiful Taylor 416ce-R that sat in its case unused because I never bonded with it). I came down to test out an acoustic drum kit and pick up a pair of drumsticks. To my surprise, there were zero acoustic kits set up. but they had me less than 5 electric drum sets. I was disappointed, but figured I'd at least check out some synths. One synth, the rest keyboards and midi controllers. Not even a Nord. They had lots of toy instruments though and novelties, so go if that's your boat. read more

Guitar Centers are notoriously overworked and short-staffed but despite this, the folks at this Guitar Center are always so nice to work with. They'll genuinely help you and chat with you without ever making you feel rushed. They offer to price match and throw in deals when they can. Southcenter Guitar Center in Tukwila, WA advertised a vintage 1950s Kay K160 archtop guitar for $1,000.00 and I wanted to buy it. The website only had one picture so on November 16, 2023 at about 3pm I called Southcenter GC to get a picture of the backside just to make sure there were no issues before buying. I was connected with someone who said their name was "Fade". I asked the salesman to spell out his name for me to make sure I had his name correct. "Fade" said he knew which guitar I was asking about and said he would send me pictures within the hour. After waiting 3 hours and no pictures I called at 6pm to follow up. I wanted to buy the guitar. I was told that no one named "Fade" worked at the store and I was connected to someone who said his name was "Marshall". "Marshall" promised to send me pictures of the Kay k160 before 9pm when the store closed. More than 48 hours have passed and neither "Fade" or "Marshall" who I suspect are the same person have sent me the promised pictures. I've been shopping at Guitar Center for 40+ years and regardless of the location I have always experienced excellent customer service. This is the first time I have not. It is almost as if these people have contempt towards customers. Apparently, lying to me about his name so he can't be identified then snubbing me when I'm trying to buy a $1,000.00 guitar was some kind of joke. Don't worry Southcenter Guitar Center. Review is for Tukwila Washington near mall. Took my 5 year old son there excited to buy a Roland fp30x to get him to practice at night when playing the grand piano at home is too loud. We walked around looking at various piano keyboards for about 15 minutes, and not once greeted nor even asked if we needed any help. Too bad, we ended up buying online at Adorama who had a way better deal as their fp30x is bundled with a chair, folding table, earphones, and sustain pedal all for $749. Thank you for ignoring us which forced us to find a better deal! Yes, our intention was to support local businesses too rather than buying online, but with this kind of customer service Id rather save time and gas and buy online. read more

Staff and the store manager on this store were very helpful and friendly. I got a question about guitar strings and the store manager was very informative on the different options and kinds of strings, he provided me different options and gave the pros and cons on each. We purchased a Yamaha guitar when we visited and staff was very accommodating on getting us the newer stock of the guitar we chose. They are also great on making conversation. I also got a gift card that was demagnetized due to storing it for too long and the both staff and store manager helped us on fixing the problem and was able to figure out a way to use my gift card. They have implemented covid protocols with the store that includes wearing masks when entering, providing hand sanitizers on the entrance, limiting customers inside the guitar sections as it is an enclosed area, cleaning the instruments before using, and social distancing signs and regulations. Overall, I had a great experience buying all the things I needed and got great customer experience from the staff. Highly recommend this place! read more

The staff in ALL departments are so helpful and patient and if u want to have an amazing experience from being greeted as soon as u walk in the door to the guy ringing u up , cracking jokes with my daughter, then u need to come here. I came in to purchase an acoustic guitar on 1/6/15. I am a beginner and just learning to play. When I stopped in, I looked around a bit then went into the main acoustic guitar room. After being in the store a total of 3 minutes, Brad came to greet me. He was there with me from then on. Being 1 of 2 managers on staff that night, he was helping others at times but always came back to finish helping me out. Brad took the time to explain to me the difference between the different sizes of acoustic guitars, showed me the right way to hold a guitar, and answered some other basic questions that I had so I could try a few out and see which one I wanted. The instant I saw a Luna, I knew it was mine, and it fit me perfectly. Brad went over the electrical components of the Luna with me without me having to ask. Brad and I reviewed different stands, I picked out the perfect guitar strap, and he recommended and reviewed with me the different strings for a beginner. He also told me they charge $25 to change the strings but told me I could go on YouTube and find a video that would should me how to do it myself to save the cash. He took his time asking some more basic questions I had regarding picks. He threw in a free battery for the Luna too. There was another employee that gave some advice regarding lessons and strings. She was down-to-earth, honest and friendly. I saw her interact with three other customers in the same manner. As I was leaving, Brad offered to walk me out to my car for safety. Wow. He also told me that they had a free workshop on 1/31 for beginner guitarists. I went away with a chord poster as well and was happy as heck. Will definitely be coming back. read more

I had an issue with what was supposed to be a same day in store pickup order that was changed to ship to store. The delivery date didn't work for when the item was needed, so I reached out to see what could be done. Rather than direct my order to another store where the item was avaialble they gave me thier canned 'we're sorry and appreciate your business' response you'll see on all these reviews and proceeded to jerk me around until my order was supposed to be delivered. On the day it was scheduled to arrive, I received the shipping notification of a delay, but just for fun I decided to head to the store as I really needed the item. Low and behold, it's there sitting on a shelf covered in dust... They didn't even try to fulfill my order or have the store check inventory. Go elsewhere when looking for whatever gear you're interested in. They do not value you as a customer. 1 star only because there isn't an option to go negative. read more

If the wait outside in line Saturday, October 2 wasn't enough then standing at the unattended sales station was enough to force me to abandon Corporate America & Walmartization and return to Main Street Center where you may pay a tad more, the selection and stock might be limited but its more a personal relationship. I understand its trying times and all with Covid 19 but over a half hour wait in socially distanced space on the side walk with an irritated group of shoppers followed by 30 minutes inside waiting for a sales person to buy a simple item unfortunately behind the counter has forced me to always shop locally at Unnamed Store in Renton where the traffic is bad but theres no wait. Sort of a free for all. Was only approached for guidance after testing multiple guitars. Though the information provided was good to have. I've been playing for 6 years so I'm not inept, but I would still like to see some more effort from the staff to help with customers. A lot of people get nervous about asking for help when they know less than they wish they did. The staff was however willing to help with anything when asked. I called about bringing a multi effect unit in for trade/cash on Monday. I explained I'd be coming in Tuesday and it was an 1 1/2 hr drive for me. Therefore I wanted to be assured they were accepting them and was informed no problem. I arrived Tuesday and was told they were too busy to accommodate a transaction. I said I'd be willing to wait. Manager indicated one hour. I returned after an hour and was told they were not accepting multi effects units. I naturally was somewhat upset. I explained I'd called the day before and was advised to come in with no problem. Manager asked who I spoke with and I replied I didn't get a name. He then said "I don't believe you". I know nothing about anything they sell, which is why I am SO thankful for the amazing customer service I received when I needed a new wireless microphone system for the event space where I work. Not only did they get me the best value/simplest to use, but they were incredibly kind and patient with me when I returned TWO times with questions because I couldn't figure out how to work it. Turns out it really was a simple solution (operator error, ha!) but I never was made to feel that I was annoying or a pain, which I think must be something, because they are all so incredibly knowledgeable! i was trying to support local business but after that visit to this store (Guitar Center, Southcenter) I highly recommend just buying off of Amazon. The store was MESSY with boxes in the aisles and people having to avoid each other on narrow paths. I also waited in line for 15 mins to pay then finally walked out. At one station there were two cashiers but one decided to restring a guitar and the other cashier was easily distracted by walk ups who took her into the store to answer and look for items. They finally said if you want to pay elsewhere go to these two other places so I did and in the first place there was NO ONE there and the second place the dude was trying to help the mom figure out her monthly payments for her kids lessons. I don't really ever come to Guitar Center for myself - It's my boyfriend who shops here. But I've come enough to know when something is up. We went the other day and the place is just BARREN. A wasteland. There used to be multiple guitar stations set up where employees are working on guitars, and now they're all gone. Sheet music selection is pretty decent to start off but still great nonetheless ranging from beginner to advanced. I feel as though it's catered to the teaching aspect. I ordered an EV Evolve 50 from the Tukwila Guitar Center. It shipped quickly and arrived without the EV Shoulder Carrying Bag for the stick and HF Component, which is included with every Evolve 50 system sold. When I called the store, a salesman in Pro Audio told me "It didn't come with one." I told him, "Your Used Gear ad should have specified "missing Shoulder Carrying Bag"; all the description said was "Great" condition." The fellow was unapologetic and in a nutshell said 'tough-shit'. To top it all off, EV doesn't sell the Shoulder Carrying Bag. Don't trust Guitar Center. UPDATE: Guitar Center Customer Relations reached out to me, and yesterday the Tukwila GC Manager wrote saying he was Next Day Air shipping an EV Evolve 50 Shoulder Carrying Bag to me. The carrying bag arrived today and all is square. But it could have been better. A phone call with a salesman should have been enough to resolve this issue. Only one guy working there everyone else stares at you then promptly ignores you. Website says they have the merchandise in stock even their computers tell the rep they have it in stock. But they didn't they sold me a used floor model with a scratched pick guard one of the workers tried to buff out. You would think they would up sell me but they wanted to sell me some thing cheaper; this time I wanted to buy a nicer spec. I even up sold myself and asked for another guitar that was more than my original pick. Guess what the website and the store computer said it was in stock and he returned and said operations said it was not. Again they try to sell me an inferior guitar to the one I want. I wrote this review almost 2 months later to calm down. I feel bad for my sales rep it's like he was the only one working and his operations guy wasn't going to get the customer what they want to buy cause he is too busy having his coffee. On the east coast I could go in a pick up what I wanted if the website said it was in stock for years all the Guitar centers I went to managed to up sell me and get me to come back. Had an itch for a new guitar... After almost a year of not playing at all, I started playing again. I have an Epiphone Les Paul plus top that I've had since I was 15. Great axe, but was looking for an addition to the collection that wasn't so "heavy"... Played a gazillion different guitars but kept gravitating towards the Strat. Sometimes, an evil necessity, guitar center has to come into the equation... The sales guy here was knowledgeable and they had the exact model I kind of had in mind. Was seeing if they had anything cool used, but when one's mind is set... Yea. The selection here is very good (as with most guitar centers) and all interactions with the employees here were positive. The sale over the weekend I purchased made the price not too bad for an American made genuine Fender Stratocaster, thus I am extremely satisfied. As for the instrument- I have not played this much in years!! Love how the Strat compliments the Les Paul- which I am playing more as well. Some things the Les Paul does better, and in other respects the Strat is my go-to guitar. The selection is good and the employees were pleasant. While I'm a bit too infatuated with my Strat right now, when time comes to add to the collection I would pay a visit again. read more

Personally I prefer to shop at A Sharp music but Guitar Center was having a hell of a sale and I was buying a $2,500 guitar so I figured why not give them a chance. I refuse to buy a wall model when spending this much on a guitar. I want it new in the box. Morgan ended up calling 6 different stores to find me the guitar I wanted brand new. Both the salesman I worked with went out of there way to make sure I was happy. So glad I came to them. Funny part is, if they weren't offering 18% off I wouldn't have ever walked in the door. Fast summary: I am a professional musican in the Seattle area. While GC is known to be mainly a place where amateur musicians hang out, I did find this location's lack of professionalism to be a huge deterrant to a sale. I been to their Seattle and Tacoma location and while they might not have a lot of things I need, the staff at least tried to help their customers. At this location, this was not the case. Example one: I went in to buy a cymbal. I look the stock, chose my ride and head to the teller to ring my sale up. The teller seemed very busy in showing off his abs to this cute girl he was serving, so I smile and ask if he could help me buy the item. The guy totally ignores me, I then ask another worker, who seemed more intent on playing Purple Haze than again a sale, and get brushed off. I give up and leave after this. Example two: I walk in and ask to borrow a pair of sticks to try out some merchandise. I notice kids tend to spend hours playing things in the store, so my intention of 5 minutes of testing did not seem rash. The clerk glares at me and tells me "sure, but you only have 3 minutes to use them" I take the sticks wipe them on my ass and leave them there. Later, I asked the clerk at the Seattle location if there was a time limit on borrowing sticks and he told me that they have no company policy of the sort and the Tukwila staff are assholes. (I did end up spending over 1k at that location just due to their service) Example 3: I walk into the store and a manager comes to me telling me that I was scaring the customers and had to leave. Being confused at this introduction I ask how and why and he tells me that the cute blond girl told him that someone of my "race" was bugging her and he wanted me to leave for bugging her. I fingered him and left. Soo, if you want to shop at a racist, dumbass, poor service, place who hire their staff based off of cleavage size or number of tattoos, then this is the place for you.
