I brought in a guitar with some very relic'd tuners. They were rusted, bushings to the post, on multiple tuners. The repair shop took the greatest care, cutting the posts, drilling them out and protecting a beautiful flame maple neck. They then buffed the headstock. My stellar Tele works as well as it looks! Don't bring your repairs here. I just had my second experience having my repair forgotten about in the queue. I was quoted 2-3 weeks, when I followed up 2 months later they discovered that the unit had been sitting ready for pickup for a long time and no one reached out to me to tell me it was ready. If I had to guess, it seems like the repair folks are swamped with work and that they're constantly asked to prioritize items that are going to the sales floor over local customer repairs. Sad, this used to be my favorite shop in Seattle. Now it feels like they target the tech-salary or boomer collector over working musicians, and all the charm and relatability is gone. This store should be called Dr Mike's Guitar Shop. I brought my 32-year-old, Guild, in to see Mike because he wasn't doing so well. Dr Mike took a look at him and told me he might have to undergo a major operation due to his neck getting stretched out for too long. He took him into his operating room and came out a little while later with good news that he didn't need an operation. After he gave him an adjustment (at no charge) and put some strings on him, he was good as new again. I'm definitely coming back to Dr Mike when I have a guitar not doing so good! read more

I new nothing about guitars and wanted to buy one as gift for my nephew (Professional guitar player, Jazz & other stuff) . After my first visit at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, it was overwhelming with the amount types and prices. The staff there gave me some ideas on how to narrow down to one guitar. Always a joy to visit M&M's and see the latest vintage arrivals. A guy walked in off the street while I was there and asked if this was a guitar museum LOL. Amazing place if you're looking for a vintage Gibson or Fender - with Rickenbackers, resonators, amps and other assorted goodies too. They got a very comfortable room with Fender, Marshall, Mesa and other amps all set up to try out your future guitar. Alex was super helpful and not in a rush. He helped me narrow down my choice after a couple of visits to the amazing LP that I brought home just the other day. So if you are into guitars I suggest that you would be hard pressed not to find the one you need here at Mike's! They don't carry new stuff, but very fine instruments with experience and tons of music left in them. You can buy online or from Reverb but IMHO if you can't pick it up and listen to what it has to say, you shouldn't be buying it. Inventory changes quickly, so visit often! Notice that all the negative reviews seem to be from folks who missed out an opportunity, and not for any other reason. People, understand if you're going to negotiate on a piece and miss out because somebody else pipped you to the post, that's TS. I have consigned many high dollar pieces with Mike over the years and he is a real gentleman. Every time he under promised and over delivered. His rates were transparent and not greedy in the slightest. Buyer Beware! This company lacks morals and is not afraid to ripoff their customers. They sold me a guitar on the express condition that they would (1) change the strings on the instrument to my preferred brand and string gauge and (2) give the guitar a fresh setup based on the new strings. When the guitar arrived, it smelled musty and had the old strings still on it. Making matters much worse the guitar was unplayable due to the high e string choking out the note on string bends past the 12th fret. When I brought these issues to their attention (first to Brad and then to "Mike" the owner) and requested a refund, I was given the complete runaround. I was told to bring the guitar to a local shop for repair, even though there really is no such shop in my area. Eventually, Mike started ghosting my communications. This business is bad news and should probably be avoided at all costs! You have been warned. read more

I saw the shop online and stopped in. I like Gibson Les Pauls but I also collect Greco, Burny, Tokai and Orville guitars. I have lost track of the number of guitars I have bought, but the last few were high end Japan made Les Pauls. I think 6? Jordan, Lance, Nick, everyone at the shop is super cool. They work to make sure you like what you are buying. I purchased a 1990 wine red Gibson Les Paul Custom there that needed a re-fret. They sent it out and when I got it back the fingerboard and frets looked brand new. The setup was tight and it played like new. I continue to go by every week, just to see what is there. Yesterday 11/27, I picked up a beautiful 1983 Oroville by Gibson 3 pickup standard. I rest my case, 5* all the way. read more

I ordered a 65 Bassman off of Reverb and when I went to pay for it, I saw the "pickup in store" option and (out of curiosity checked to see where it was coming from). Turns out it was this local guitar shop which, somehow I've missed in the 20 years I've been in Seattle. I went down to collect the amp and was impressed with both the friendliness of the folks working there and the great selection of gear on display. Lots of cool stuff. Lots of vintage stuff. I was kind of in a hurry, so could only take a quick glance - but I'll be back. I did inquire about terms on consignment as I have some stuff laying around I've been looking to re-home at some point. I went in to buy a specific guitar and had the worst experience with a guy named Jordan. To help sell this guitar Mike & Mike's listed it on eBay for a buy it now price of $2200. I know eBay charges a 10% fee and PayPal charges a 5% fee so I wanted to cutout eBay and PayPal from making money on this purchase. When I told this to Jordan he said he would sell it to me for $200 less. That was great to me. A few minutes later he changed his mind and said he never said that! I told him that was very bad business. He didn't care! So I just wanted to let everyone know how my fist and LAST buying experience at this establishment went! read more

Brought my tele in for a repair on Thursday since I was having some rattling on the low E and B strings that I've been enduring for months. The tech filed down the nut and fixed my truss rod since the neck was bowed. Took about 3 minutes and the thing was fixed. I wasn't charged since it was a quick thing, stoked. I also strung the strings in the wrong direction that he gave advice on and brought the guitar in a bass gig bag (which I was aware of since I didn't wanna carry it in my hard case) that he commented on. Both were instances that he could've had an ego/superiority complex on but he was chill the whole time and just brought them up to make sure I was aware of it. I wish I caught his name but this experience made me really want to support this shop. I went over to the other side to try out some MIJ Jaguars since I've been in the market for that. The salesman there was very helpful and laidback as well. Great sound room with a variety of amps to try out on your guitar. I ended up only buying guitar strings since I didn't want to leave empty handed since this guitar is a big purchase for me. I sat on it overnight and came the next day after work at 5pm with the intent to buy the sonic blue MIJ Jaguar but the shop was extremely busy and I didn't wanna deal with that fuss so I decided to come first thing the next morning. Came into the shop and found out that guitar sold last night. Was a bit bummed and tried out some other guitars but they weren't what I was looking for. The sales rep that morning was also very helpful and chill. All that said, I missed out on the jag I wanted but I will definitely be back to purchase one if something comes in that I want. This shop has left a very positive impression on me through multiple interactions. Yes the gear is priced higher on their value spectrum but you're paying for peace of mind that these experts have thoroughly reviewed the instrument while supporting the staff and shop in a great location in Seattle. Oh I wish I could give one million negative stars. You should avoid this dealer at all costs. This is coming from a pro musician that has done business worldwide with some wonderful stores, and some not so wonderful. But none has ever been more unprofessional and horrible than this establishment. This place is ran by a smarmy guy named Mike that hides behind a computer screen while he has minions field his calls etc. Our studio called this place when we saw a guitar I've been looking for. A turquoise Rickenbacker 330 12. Now for starters these guys are selling their guitars about 20 percent above market rate. So keep in mind you will be paying a major premium just to deal with them. Shop around. I would not normally pay their gouging prices, but sometimes someone has something you really want. Now a 330 12 can be had on the market even in custom color for 2500-3k max. They were asking 3500 plus tax and eBay fees which is WAY too much. So I called an offered 3500 flat to my doorstep. Basically a 500 dollar premium because I wanted that color. The sales person on the phone went and talked to the "boss" about my offer. He came back and agreed to the offer. Said they would adjust the price on eBay and email an offer to buy, which I accepted. However when I went to pay the check out was almost 3700 dollars. Obviously not what was agreed. So I sent a message stating this. I got a really ridiculous message from "Mike" And let me tell you this guy is a bonafide JERK and a smart ass. He sends me a mean message claiming they never agreed to that with a really blow you off attitude basically implying I was lying. So I shot a message back refuting this and was not really happy being talked to in that manner. I told him every detail which was undeniable. So then "Mike" sends another message saying "no need for this to get heated" blah blah and says he'll honor the price. Of course he would he just tried to get more after agreeing. So I waited and waited for a new EBay offer with the adjustment -nothing. Then here is the kicker. This guy cancelled my order with a complete lie claiming that my address was not correct in eBay because he got another buyer, and sold the guitar out from under me. The guy never bothered to call, take my call or follow up. He just sent a last snarky message saying we clearly aren't meant to do business and making a bunch of lies and excuses. Further a friend recently got a guitar that was misrepresented by these guys and is considering a lawsuit. Buy at your own risk. Friends in the industry have bad things to say about this guy Mike since I recently reached out to professionals I know in Seattle. I strongly recommend Emerald City or other great National dealers like Chicago Music Exchange. Guys like this should not be in business and I expect him to eventually fold. Avoid Avoid Avoid. Oh and don't buy the inevitable response he'll put on here. Every negative review he gets he tries to spin with a bunch of BS mixed with "hey bro no need to get upset" holier than thou crap. These guys are wonderful to work with. I made an offer on a 2006 Gibson Les Paul Custom Shop " Black Beauty " guitar . A 57 reissue. They accepted my offer in minutes ,and although I gave a few packing instructions ,they did it much better . They tuned the strings down, removed and carefully packed the bridge for safe storage in the case compartment. Carefully wrapped the guitar in the case ,and made the case look like a mummy with about 4 layers of bubble wrap in the box. An A ++ job. was driving by the neighborhood, had some time to kill, and saw this store. had no expectations other than that i thought the interior design had a really great vibe - midcentury living room studio feel, where you feel comfortable and inspired to play. i was blown away by the selection. vintage, of course, but it was also the setup and playability of the guitars. every guitar i picked up felt right and ready to play. I don't tour anymore, but i do fly to nyc and la once/month to write and record, so i was lookin for some tones that would inspire new songs. given the resurgence of guitar sounds in pop, i do my best to keep the vintage tones of guitars and basses alive. and i feel like i found a haven at mike & mike's guitar bar. the staff are amazing, super responsive, helpful, and knowledgeable about finding alternatives to what you're looking for, as a way to a/b your choices. nathan and ben were really good to me, even put up with all the noise i was making. and mike himself was super cool, transparent, and not about ripping you off. it's a place that runs contrary to many things about the business of music, they are more protective of the vibe they create than simply the business they are trying to run - which is the best kind of business, right? i have had the privilege of traveling the world because of music, and i have visited thousands of guitar stores in most major cities in America, Europe, Asia, and even Africa. mike & mike's guitar bar is special. by far, it is the best in seattle. and it is in the company of the best of the world. in case you're wondering, i picked up a gibson memphis es335 and a 3leaf audio chromatron pedal. long live the funk. if you're a true musician, you kno that vibe is everything. mmguitarbar has that vibe. do yourself a favor and frequent it! read more

These guys are the best - I've had them do installs of my pickups, pro setups, rewiring/harness work, etc. and they're always faster and cheaper than I expect and their work is absolutely top notch. Great shop with awesome vintage gear. Their show room is beautiful to say the least. I would dare say it's the most aesthetically pleasing guitar shop in Seattle. I've had my guitars worked on by Mike & Mike's a couple times now. Both times there were some communication issues, but they apologized and fixed the issue quickly. I totally get that they're not a perfect shop, but the one or two star reviews seem very harsh and overly reactive to personal feelings versus looking at the situation objectively. I was a bit paranoid but their reputation was excellent, the guitar was the one I'd been looking for and the price was fair. They had some amazing equipment for sale, but we were there to see about putting my son's guitar for sale using their reach both locally, nationally and internationally. We had lots of credible choices/guitar shops that wanted to sell my sons cool lap guitar, but we both liked Mike & Mike and their presence on social media was by far the best! We put the guitar up for sale and a couple weeks later we got an offer that far exceeded our expectations. We made a $2000 profit from our business deal with Mike & Mike! First thing - the shop is in the garage of the house - a little confusing to find. These gents are amazing. Very welcoming and knowledgeable. I had an old acoustic guitar that I wanted to clean up, but know nothing about guitars. That said, I know a lot about customer service - Mike strung it up and though it was unsalvageable, I walked away feeling well taken care of and they didn't charge a penny to look at it.
