The first visit to their new location in Burien. The shop is smaller, but well stocked with a variety of affordable instruments. We were there to help my granddaughter select her first guitar. The salesman, Brent, was busy assisting another customer, so we starting looking on our own. When he was able, Brent answered every question clearly and demonstrated a good working knowledge of his products. We settled on e very nice 00 guitar that she choose because she thought it sounded the best. (She was right.) We were never rushed or ignored, as can be the case in some big box music shops. 5 star if you are white. shop some where else if you are a black man i got the "black carpet treatment" twice from georgetown music. i had a few repairs done at georgetown music when they where still in georgetown. they do excellent work. the person i usually dealt with was named mike, i believe. when mike gave me a price for repairs . mike would include the taxes in the price. so, i go to pick up my bass. mike is not there. i talk to one of the sale associates. i give the sale associate my receipt. he adds additional taxes. i explain to him the taxes where included in the price. the sale associate was hearing none of that. i know what it is... "the black carpet treatment" it is just a fact of life sometime sh#t is more expensive when you are person of colour. this does not make me bitter i just take my business elsewhere. leap ahead few years. just finished shopping at grocery outlet in burien. being a heavy handed cr@p drummer. i just destroy drumsticks. and i needed some new sticks we search for music stores near by on google google directs us to dusty strings so we start walking. before we get to dusty's we pass in front georgetown music. so i decide to into georgetown (i wish i hadn't) the sale associate's fear and nervousness of me was palpable hey, i get it a black man in a mask there's some trepidation. but he was extra extra with it. (100 feet east georgetown music is efx electronics i've been a bunch a time wearing my mask and, ed at efx electronics has aways been great but, he doesn't sell drumsticks) i wear a mask because i never got the shot and i do want to infect anyone my 73 year old aunt wears a mask because... "she 73 years old." i tell the sale associate that i'm looking for drumsticks normally when a sale person is asked for item. they lead you to the item. but he is so scared of me he hand gesture me to go first i know what this is that "black carpet treatment" again i go first hoping he'll relax he's does not relax , not at all, so here i am in the tiny little room and, most of the sticks are promark stick promark drumstick are meh i do not find any stick to my liking finally the sales associate says " i thought you wanted me to pick out some sticks for you" i say yes we switch places now he is in front me the way it should have been in the fist place he pick out a pair of vater 5a's they seem decent so i grab 2 more. when i pull out my cash, instead of the gat he imaged he finally relaxes... a bit. universally there are two places no one should ever be afraid: their home and their place of business. so for that man's equanimity and my safety i will never again set foot in georgetown music. nervous fearful people are some of the most dangerous people to be around seem like it great for non black men to shop but if you are large masculine black man consider shopping somewhere else or online for repairs try efx electronics a few doors down way friendlier to black people. efx electronics (206) 241-4852 address: 222 sw 153rd st, burien, wa 98166 When we get outside without me asking my aunt commented on how f'd up the vibe was . she says she keep her hand s behind here back the whole time because she didn't want any problems read more

I've had my 6, 7 and 12 string guitars setup and repaired here and I must say I've been blown away with the level of experience and knowledge provided. I've had some negative guitar repair experiences so it's important that my guitars are worked on by people who listen and understand customer needs and requirements. I traded one of my Gibson SG's recently for an excellent acoustic guitar. Trade was fair and I left a delighted customer as opposed feeling as if I've just been ripped off by creeps. My absolute favorite music shop in the Seattle area! Many of the other music stores are either a sterile showroom for the big brands or boutique shops catering to wealthy collectors of vintage showpieces. Georgetown Music has an eclectic selection, fair prices, and friendly staff. It's the sort of place where you can discover an instrument you didn't even know you were looking for and yet feel an instant connection like you've been playing it for years. They have a good balance between new gear from high quality brands and used gems. If you're a beginner or on a tight budget, you'll get a lot more bang for your buck with some of the lower priced options and hands on service than whatever the box stores will offer, and seasoned musicians will appreciate the under-the-radar gems that are to be found. read more

Awesome music store! Awesome addition to Georgetown! We stopped by after overhearing someone talking about it in Georgetown Records and we were sure happy we did. Although we didn't end up deciding on anything, my husband and I had lots of fun trying out some super good sounding acoustic guitars. The prices are extremely reasonable, the instruments are in great shape and they really seem to have something for everyone, of every shape, size and color and to fit a variety of budgets. The staff here are more than friendly, they're excited about music, and seem genuinely stoked that you took the time to stop by to see what they're all about. We're not from Seattle but every time we visit, we start to wish we were. At this point we're pretty much in agreement that if we ever make the move, Georgetown would be our first choice of neighborhoods. It's places like this that make you wish you lived within walking distance. I hope GMS stays around for years to come. We intend to make it a routine visit whenever we're in town. read more

Thanks to a very awesome friend of mine who recommended the folks at Georgetown Music, I was able to easily (and cheaply) rent the audio equipment we used for my wedding this past weekend. Everything was in great condition, easy to put together and set up, and the sound was excellent. One note for anyone renting the PA stuff who also wants to be able to plug their computer into the system: You'll need to purchase some extra cables/adapters. Or if you're like me, you'll punt and point the microphone at the sweet new bluetooth speaker you purchased and brought with just in case. All fellow guitar players, please note this message. I've spent the last few months browsing guitar stores in and around Seattle to find a shop that has friendly staff and does a prestine job with curation. Almost every store I've been to in this city has had amazing customer service and friendly staff. This store, though, has a special selection of instruments, is just the right size, is organized meticulously, and the prices are right. I've discredited parts casters and mid range craft guitars for years thinking I'd find the diamonds in expensive gear. This shop simply proved that's not true. It's about finding the right neck/body combos and pairing them appropriately with an amplifier. This is how every music shop should be. Please, if you get the chance, stop by here and play a bunch of guitars. They are all fantastic. Today I went to a much higher end boutique and played 2,000 Stratocasters for an hour. Can I just hate on Georgetown for a second? No, I really can't when this place exists. Such an upgrade from the illegitimate pharmacy that used to inhabit this space. So, a good collection in general of used amps and guitars, etc. They fix instruments proficiently, affordably, and sooo fast. Pretty much the most friendly staff of any music store ever of all time AND they don't make girls feel dumb for asking questions... Why do most music store employees do this? Who does that??! Umm... Only guitar center and every other ass hole that tries to work at a music store. They don't even seem to get mad when dude bros come in and try to play stupid guitar solos way too loud and way not good. So much patience! Georgetown Music is too legit to quit... Musician's dream store. As others have pointed out the sheer volume variety of instruments is really awesome. Best of all the staff is uber friendly and welcoming. It feels comfortable to pick up just about any instrument and start playing - no awkward stares or hovering from the staff. I lost my boyfriend for 45 minutes to the collection of classical guitars and I feel lucky that it was only that for that long. I could see it being very easy to get lost in this store for hours. My real kudos, though, is for the shop. Chris is a true instrument "mechanic": a problem solver that is totally down to collaborate with you, the owner, on finding the solution to whatever issue your instrument is throwing you. He's also totally honest about what he can and cannot do, offers alternatives if it's out of his expertise. After dragging my cello all over town to the specialty shops for what seemed to me (a non expert, perhaps) to be a simple repair request on my student model cello, I had had my instrument berated and I was made to feel like a cheapo for not buying a $5k cello my first time out. What a world of difference at GMS. I felt truly heard, and appreciated as a customer with an instrument with an issue that could be fixed. Chris looked at the problem, we talked over some possible solutions and then asked for a couple of days to make it happen. And make it happen he did. My cello plays better than ever. It may never be Benaroya Hall worthy, but then again, I'm no Yo-Yo Ma, and having an instrument that I can continue to learn on was the goal that Chris and GMS helped me achieve. I cannot sing the praises of Chris and GMS loud enough. This is a great addition to Georgetown and a major boon for Seattle musicians. read more

I'm not a musician. We just live in the neighborhood and stopped in during a walk with our little boy. What a fabulous place. The people who worked there were very welcoming and friendly. You'd have to rely on other people for reviews of the instruments. All I know is that our 2.5 year old was totally welcome, even embraced. The guy who worked there engaged him immediately and then told us that there was electronic drum set he could play with. So he did, and he had a great time. Then he explored some other instruments. Instead of treating him like some destructive force of nature, he was treated like a curious kid who should explore. What a great experience. I'm glad this store is in the neighborhood and we'll be stopping by again. Awesome! read more

I have a half-size Yamaha nylon-string guitar that recently developed a very pronounced buzz when strumming and picking. Given that the guitar didn't cost very much new, I was afraid that it wouldn't be cost-effective to repair and that I'd have to junk what is otherwise a very nice little guitar. BUT, Dan, Tom, and Max were amazing to work with: courteous, very communicative, and they did the repair (turned out to be a loose brace that needed a little glue) for a trivial sum despite some initial issues with the guitar body being extra small! In short, I had a great experience and would not hesitate to recommend anyone looking for competent, go-the-extra-mile service on your acoustic guitar. read more

I love this store. The staff are far from the stuck-up stickybeaks at places like Guitar Center--they actually treat you like they'd like to see you come back. I recently took in my guitar to have some repair work done on it. Chris, their main "luthier," took me into his shop to show me what he might be able to do to render my guitar once again playable. He was honest, clear, and above all, completely professional. Best part: my 33 y.o. Takamine acoustic plays like it was brand new. It sounds like the guitar I fell in love with back when I bought it. The work was very reasonably priced. I even got a short and interesting history lesson about my guitar by one of the other guys. Nice guys all. I can't say enough positive! read more

When I told him I wanted to get some guitar strings, he went inside and got what I was looking for, gave them to me, and told me to pay for them the next time I was in the store. How can you not like this place? An important part of the Georgetown retail scene that has a great vibe when you walk in. I was there recently and the guitarist for the "Meter Maids" was laying down some serious riffs and sounding good. Been meaning to leave this for a while since Yelp is how I found this place. I brought my 40 year old donated guitar in knowing nothing about it except that it probably needed a lot of work. They made some recommendations and for about $100 I walked out with a guitar that looks and sounds beautiful. All around excellent experience and they will get my business again. Everyone I talked to there was friendly and knowledgeable and when I picked up the guitar I think they were just as excited as I was! So much so that the guy said, "let's hear you play it." and I said, "whoa buddy, I'm far too insecure to strum a chord in public." And so he played it. And it was good. read more
