This place is absolutely insane. 2 managers hung up on my brother, who was unable to walk due to surgery, when he called to inquire about my picking up his online order and the difficulty associated with it. I drove over 30 miles to pick up this order for him and while 4 other items on order had no problems, they claimed there was a credit issue with the guitar. They did not tell us this when we called for pick up info, did not tell us this when we arrived and gathered all other items, and only claimed there was an issue after 2 phone calls from my brother AND me going back inside. I asked for a manager in person and both refused to come out and speak with me. I will NEVER return to this place. This is not the first time we've had problems. Up front I'll just say the employees at this store are awesome and are the only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars. They're always friendly and try their best to help. The problem is this store just doesn't stock much of anything. I leave there empty handed more often than not. If you're looking for anything outside what the majority of people use they will absolutely not stock it. They didn't even have finger and thumb picks the last time I was there. No tone bars for dobro/lap steel. No variety in flat picks, no resonator guitars, no real variety when it comes to strings. As a guitar store, I would think they would stock a variety of things guitarists would want to try, especially cheaper stuff like picks and strings. I don't know who does the ordering for this place but my guess is an AI algorithm at this point. Just another corporate shithole now I guess. read more

The store advertised a used item for sale, which I purchased. Two days later the order was cancelled but I had to fight for a full refund of my purchase amount. I was told there was an inventory mistake but then I noticed the item is back on their website listed for sale. It seems scamming customers is Guitar Center's last gasping effort of an otherwise dying company. Just get on with it and close your business for good. read more

In the past guitar center had some customer service issues and I felt was disorganized, which I had experienced, however, my most two recent experiences have been nothing but stellar! I went to get an adaptor cable for my interface and the guy at the counter was very helpful, even when he was slammed. He could've easily turned me away or told me to come back because they were short staffed at the moment, but his pride in offering great customer service shined and he was able to juggle both and accomodate us with what we needed, answer my questions, upsell us and service the other customers as well. Another great experience recently I had was with Aiden, a talented guitar tech there, whom I recommend if you need help with bass or guitar questions. I was looking for a pedal as a Valentine's Day present for my kid, but wasn't sure where to begin. He took the time to listen to my needs and was more than helpful, knowledgeable, patient and informative. He explained specific pedals, price points, provided personal experience examples and even showed me some of his own pedals and how he set up his rig for his noise rock band - Shower Head. He played through some of the effects so I could hear them and answered questions for me that I had specific to daughter's aspiring preferences for sounds she wanted to achieve for her own musical project goals - shoe gaze and punk. With those two employees, guitar center has definitely started hiring and screening for more solid employees that are more than just there as warm bodies to fill space, but real musicians that care about customer service. With that said, it's nice to see that the hiring and quality has definitely improved. I hope this continues. read more

I (along with others) just spent 10 minutes waiting in line to buy a few things while 1 employee was working and 3 were standing around. After suggesting that maybe someone should take my money I was given a bunch of excuses so I walked out. The experience was so disgusting that I will never step foot in any Guitar Center nor spend a single cent with Guitar Center online. This is not my first negative experience with a Guitar Center so it must be a company wide issue. This company is not going to have a long existence unless they change quickly. Thank you to Zach at Guitar Center in Reno for your Five Star outstanding Customer Service. I had purchased an Electric Fender Guitar for my daughter's birthday and fender case last year. This year we both came in to get a small portable PA system and 2 microphone sets which came with cords and stands in a cool pack. As a Drummer, I bought for myself, an Evans Genera HD dry 14 inch snare drum head, my first new drum head for my Tama 7 piece drum kit. I also picked up some new cool drum sticks. I can't wait to try out my new sticks with the sound of my new Evans snare drum head...a drummers dream! You are never too old to start playing an instrument. I am going to be 66 in July and I can say I play piano and I am a drummer. I may never go on tour or play gigs but I know playing the piano and drums makes me happy. Kids who play an instrument do better in school. I know because I have 3 kids. All grown now. All play music. Guitar Center in Reno has lessons if you ever wanted to just learn to play an instrument. Today my husband and I went to Guitar Center to pick up some banjo strings. We got in line to purchase the strings, and waited and waited and waited. They had one register opened, and the customers at the register was picking up their order. The cashier went to retrieve the order, and the line just halted. Although there were 2 other workers behind the counter, and I saw 1 employee on the floor, they did not open another register. I finally looked on Amazon for the same banjo strings, which was available, so we put the strings back and left. I would love to give the stores our business, but when you can't get the service, it makes sense to purchase elsewhere. read more

I left my Martin acoustic here overnight for a string change and truss rod adjustment, and their guitar tech Adin was AMAZING! He put so much care and effort into going the extra mile to make my guitar feel like it just got entirely set up. Cannot recommend enough! Went into this Guitar center location on 12/28/25 at around 11:10 am with a Dean banjo, PRS electric guitar, and an Ibanez acoustic electric guitar to sell. First of all I was greeted by an employee behind the counter with the problem solving skills of a toddler, and was told I had to wait 2 hours to even get my stuff looked at. I left and came back again to a different employee who told me 40 minutes with more equipment now behind the counter. They took my name and number and said they'd call me when they came to a consensus in roughly 40 minutes. I returned 2.5 hours later with no call back. I was then told my Ibanez couldn't be purchased because it "kept cutting out" when plugged into the amp. I took the guitar home, plugged it into my amp and it works fine. I was told my PRS was too beat up, which was also a lie. It was only missing the plastic cover on the back WHICH WAS IN THE POCKET OF THE BAG I BROUGHT THE GUITAR IN with all the screws. That tells me they weren't even willing to TRY to make anything work. They apparently didn't even look at my banjo in the 2.5 hours they had it, and on top of that one of the idiot employees went and hid my 3 instruments in the break room. Not only did these morons absolutely blow me away with this level of unprofessional behavior, they also lost a $1,700+ sale because the plan was to order a Fender Stratocaster American sunburst guitar while I was there that day. I will now be ordering that guitar from Musician's friend, and will never return to Reno Guitar Center ever again. Keep in mind I've purchased 4 guitars, lots of strings and supplies, and a keyboard from this store in the past. Absolutely pathetic, and I hope management shows those employees this review. Or just write them their last paycheck after what I saw. read more

The love affair with this store ended today. To begin with, I have purchased,and own, approximately $10K worth of guitars and two amps for my acoustics from this location. My least expensive guitar $1,500 with the most expensive at $4K not including the amps. This doesn't include accessories, strings, etc. Quite an investment. So, today, I decided I wanted to demo (with the intention of purchasing) a Marshall DSL40CR to pair with my Gibson Les Paul or my second potential choice was the Vox AC15C1. Since I was always welcomed and treated well at this store, I decided to call ahead and ask if I could bring my Les Paul into the store with the benefit of a private room so I could demo these amps without distraction from other players. I was welcomed to do that and off to the store I go. When I arrive, the only Marshall DSL40 available was a floor model complete with the foot pedal, tags and price tag. The unit looked brand new. I was accommodated as requested. The substitute manager placed the amp in the room, we had a nice discussion about the Marshall amp and some of the reviews concerning quality control now that Marshall was bought out. That discussion also included Vox. I brought my cable with me and the manager left the room for me to do the demo knowing that I intended to make a purchase of one of the two brands I mentioned. I plug my guitar into the jack. Power the Marshall up. The display lights accordingly and no sound? I check the volume controls on the amp, reverb settings, gain, tone settings AND my guitar volume. Still no sound. Stumped, I leave the room, inform an associate and he begins to check the amp, then suggests it could be my guitar (and no. I played it last night). Then he thought it was my cable. Again, no. I used that too and it was fine. Then he grabs another guitar and still no sound from the amp. Mind you. This Marshall appeared to be in new and excellent condition complete with the zip tied price tag, etc. The associate apologizes and tells me he's going to check inventory for another one as he can't figure out the problem. I informed him that the manager checked inventory and that was the only Marshall amp left. The associate asks where the amp was located, I tell him, and the associate informs me that this Marshall "hasn't worked for a while" because the speaker was blown. When I ask him why it was on the sales floor complete with tags and all, he informs me that the store manager wanted it on the floor because someone would buy it and fix it. What a crock of BS. So, I contact the store manager, who turns out to be a temporary fill in from another store. Egg on his face. Could not explain why a knowingly defective product would be on the sales floor and presented as nothing was wrong with it or why a customer would be led to believe the unit was functional. Not even an offer to have another one brought in to the store to demo. The only resolution was an offer to sell me something else defeating the entire purpose of why I was there to begin with. So, word to the wise. Guitar Center, at least the Reno store, has lost all credibility. This one incident has taken away from all my great experiences I've had there that included me always making a Starbucks run for the employees as my gesture of thanks. The whole buy local and get treated right is now a myth not to mention a turn over of employees since I didn't recognize anyone in the store. This leaves me with Sweatwater. Fortunately, I am in the position of being able to afford my musical passion and I have the ability to drive elsewhere to accomplish my goal. I am always up for a good challenge. The benefit of being goal oriented. But, this review will appear on another platform. It will also end up with the executives. It would be irresponsible of me not to include them. The executives can't change what they have no knowledge of. As for the young lady shadowing this temporary manager...if you are willing to let a sale leave the store and if you condone what happened, save yourself the trouble of a promotion. You will fail the organization. As for the temporary fill in manager...I can't believe (meaning I don't believe) you would have set that Marshall up for me to demo knowing it was inoperable. That's not my issue. My issue when I brought it to your attention, and discussed it with you was your willingness to sell me something else defeating the purpose why I was there to begin with. Certainly, that hint of sarcasm and thanks for coming in nonsense fueled this review. read more

Our kids have been coming here since 2020 and every instructor we've come across has been fabulous. That is why we are still here almost 4 years later. Kelvin- he's great. Works well with kids. My daughter takes voice lessons and my son takes drumming lessons. He has become a guitar center staple! Jack- very chill, enjoys teaching, patient bass instructor. We've had two other instructors that have left and I have nothing but good things to say about them as well. The only complaint I have is.... For the majority of the time that we've been here, it seems like they have a difficult time with keeping a lesson scheduler employed. For months they've gone without one and cancelling/rescheduling lessons become a pain. The desk at the lesson corner would be a mess and just not tended to. But then Skyler came along... and wow. He's an excellent communicator. The lesson corner is the tidiest I've seen. Rescheduling has never been easier! I love the OUR INSTRUCTORS board he made- I learned things I didn't know about the instructors after knowing them for this long. He too is a valuable asset to this store. Everyone else- customer service staff- is so friendly and helpful! We've bought a number of gear and equipment over the years and every time it's a pleasant experience. read more

They're okay, I don't rate them high as I'm kind of a fan of supporting local guitar shops, but for sure don't despise them like some people do. For my needs, here's a rundown..... On the upside is the guitar selection usually has something cool.. If I've seen 2 Jag-Stangs, a vintage 1981 Fender Lead I, several Jaguars, and other offset funnage here, it's a good store. While I build my own and am not necessarily that interested in buying much anymore, it's still cool to look around. I've had far more reasonable trade-ups and trade-in's here than I did at the Lynnwood WA store I used to use. Traded several pedals in to swap for other pedals for my board to fit my needs. The two primary problems I have, is getting in touch with staff, and parts availability. A few times I've wanted to try out an instrument or a pedal or something, and I usually have to try and flag 3-4 people down. One time it was so un-successful I just waited until an amplifier had a cable attached to it and went for it and kindly gave it back to the other customer when he was back. That's not really how you run a music store. The other time is finding parts. One time I came in for 500K Pots for a guitar build I working on that had a deadline, and of course, I open the package and wound up with 250Ks. So I had to overnight 500Ks off of E-bay, oh joy. More recently I had to find some tuners for another rebuild I was working on with a deadline, and of course I only had 2 choices of tuners - $150 Fender locking tuners, which I'm not putting on a $150 Kramer that already has a Floyd Rose and a Locking Nut, or some inexpensive "diamondback" tuners with press-fit bushings, which I'm not putting on a guitar that had cheap copies of Schaller S6's originally. The one time they did have some nice six in line cheapie tuners. I can't fault them too much for it, as I know that's the (pathetic) way commerce is going today (order online, and hope what you get is good without being able to inspect in person before purchase), but that's just the way things are going these days I guess. Hate to be the guy who needs some basic replacement part before the gig. read more

Showed up at 7:04 PM tonight. As my daughter and I were walking up to the door, a Guitar Center employee locked the door and walked away. I grabbed the door and gave it a couple of tugs. I know it made noise but guess the employee didn't care. I double-checked the sign on the door. The place was supposed to stay open until 9 PM. I couldn't believe it. We had driven all the way over to the store with the intent to purchase a bass, and not a cheap bass... and the store locked its doors two hours before its stated hours. I needed that bass for a gig the next morning, and wanted to get it restrung, set up, and practiced on before I went to bed, all I needed was a bass. Really sucked... I can't recommend a store that closes 2 hours earlier than stated on the door and totally disrespects its customers. Google, Yelp, and Apple Maps don't know that you decided to close your doors early... What if anyone else decided to drive over and walk through the place? Totally unacceptable. read more

It was pretty rough just walking in to GC through the summer due to COVID but now you don't have to wait outside. Their Customer service great. I don't get lessons there but for general business the staff is very courteous, helpful, and knowledgeable as I would expect. It did seem like they were downsizing a lot during the summer but I think they were just having serious issues with ordering and supply deliveries like everyone else in the world during COVID. Also you can order online and they will bring your stuff out to you. I gave 4 stars because there is room for improvement. read more

When to GC with my son to buy him a mixing board for his birthday. Waited outside for over an hour in 99 degree heat because they were allowing 3 people at a time in the store. In the twenty years since I first set foot in the Guitar Center in Arlington Heights, IL, I've been to several others: Tempe, AZ; Los Angeles, CA; and Redondo Beach, CA. The one in Reno, NV, is, by far, the best Guitar Center I've ever been to. And that comes down to the awesome team assembled there. Sean, Aaron, Jaden, Jason, Rachel, Ryan, Mike, and all the other excellent team members I've met there have been consistently great. I've never been disappointed with a visit to this location. Everyone there is helpful, knowledgeable and, most importantly, hands-off. They let the customers explore the very manageable yet expansive inventory on their own. The reason I'm finally writing this review, though, is due to the extra step that Sean, the store manager, took for me recently. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and my own chronic illness, I have to be really careful and can't go into many stores yet, but I still wanted to trade in some old gear for some new gear. (Gotta pass this quarantine time somehow!) I called Sean with my concerns, and he had me send him a list of my old gear for him to price out. Once we had a total, we scheduled a time for me to stop by the store, pile my gear outside the door, and wait in my car while the trade credit was being compiled. Then, Sean said that we could place an order for my new gear over the phone and have it shipped directly to my house. I called Guitar Center and they told me I had to send it to the distributor or something like that. They couldn't help me. Tough shit. this was just a hit and run, but the staff was beyond helpful and helped me to find what I was looking for. I needed a book or cd or dvd to help my daughter learn guitar since she got one for christmas. I walked in and was immediately greeted by an associate who asked if I needed help to find anything. I said what I needed and he was on it. On the shelf it was empty (due to the recent holiday), but he checked with another since they just had a delivery earlier that day. It was confirmed that they were not sure, lol, but that there was one last box that needed to be opened. He took the time to open it up and yes, it had what I wanted. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes, making me quite happy since I was on my lunch hour. read more
