After retiring, I decided to take out some music. I bought a classic guitar and asked who played the saxophone in high school if she wanted to start practicing together. After pulling out the saxophone 30 years, unused, the cork was decaying, crumbling, and dry . We called around a few places, and these guys were fast efficient and a good price. Around $30. I went in with my wife to pick it up, told the guy I was doing some classical guitar and I got an on the spot private tutor lesson lol. It was pretty awesome. All of the suggestions The guy had for me as a new guitar player were perfect. He recommended me a good book to start with. How to properly hold a guitar, etc.. Stepping into this store delights my heart. Music instruments beautifully displayed! Well-stocked shelves of music and accessories! I asked my parents for an electronic piano and piano lessons in kindergarten. Then came a decade of piano lessons, two years of classical guitar lessons, and hearty participation in middle and high school band. Playing music wasn't a part of my life in my 20s (except for that one Valentine's Day that I borrowed a guitar and played an Iron & Wine song for my college boyfriend in a candlelit dorm room!), but now that my education is complete and my career is on track, I have a teeny tiny bit more time for hobbies. Or, at least the desire to have Christmas easy piano sheet music on hand for Christmas merriment at my boyfriend's parents' house, in which there is a piano. I was tempted to buy on amazon, but I wanted to make sure that the sheet music was advanced beginner and included lyrics. When I entered the store, I was greeted by a friendly employee who helped me navigate the sheet music area. There were six or so books that fit the bill, and I found one that looked perfect to me. $18, easy peasy. Should I ever feel the need to purchase piano accessories or guitar gear in the future, Absolute Music will be my go-to store. I went in today looking for a new cello. I met Amy upon entering. She had a mask on as did the other staff and patrons. The store looked great. Amy patiently helped me try out 6 different cellos, which included her tuning and cleaning all of them, getting me a chair and a bow, and helping me switch cellos frequently. She really knows the instruments and the business and was pleasure to work with. Ultimately I chose an instrument to buy and she helped me find the perfect case and bow. I called prior to going in and spoke with John in repair. My daughter's trombone had the slide lock bent. He said bring it in he could fix it. I drove into Reno and met with John, he fixed her trombone on the spot. I was so pleased I didn't have to leave the instrument there and drive back (an hour one way) to pick it up. While John was attending to the trombone and looking at my son's saxophone, we were asking many questions and the guy at the counter (can't remember his name) was very knowledgeable and answered all the kids question. I recently went to Absolute Music to get an old saxophone that was gifted to me back into playing condition. I did not realize just how bad of shape the horn was in, but after a quick once over John let me know exactly what would be needed to get the horn back into playing condition, the cost it would take, which is very reasonable by the way, and approximately how much time it would take to complete the repairs. Seven days later, I've returned to the shop in order to play some newer saxophones, as I I've never played on a newer saxophone and wanted to know what that was like. While waiting, John informed me that my repairs were actually done ahead of schedule and I was able to pick up the horn sooner than expected. My saxophone is no top of line model, but with Absolute's help I am now able to practice effectively towards my goal of improving. I cannot recommend absolute enough for their courtesy, professionalism and kindness, and helping me get my horn back into condition and working with me as an adult (mid-30s) returning to playing. Very unprofessional and disappointing experience. Needed a quick turnaround on a guitar setup and repair. Called around town at different places. Spoke on the phone with John Bentley, and he told me he could have my guitar setup and repaired within a week. About "...an hour to do the work", he said. So I dropped it off that day. Luckily I had a backup guitar, because it was 3 weeks of unprofessional excuses: 1. From there being a single holiday in the middle of everything. 2. Them going to the NAMM show. 3. Not having the right allen tool for adjusting the bridge saddles, and constantly forgetting the needed tool at his home for 7 days straight after he told me that was the only thing holding him up. . . Who tells that to a customer anyway? I ended up spending the money on better tools and just repairing it myself. This was a disappointing waste of time. read more

Today was my first time to go into this store. It's really close to my work so I decided to go inside, and felt extremely welcomed by both the coworker and what seemed like the manager. His name is John and he was extremely kind to me and talking to me about instruments, careers, and much more. I was amazed at the selection of instruments that they sell. Also, the music books for all types of instruments except keyboard. They have many accessories such as cleaning kits, and much more. I would totally recommend this to anybody who loves music or is wanting to get into an instrument! It was totally worth my time to work over there and see what it was about! Very friendly staff! I had a problem with my clarinet. I took it in to Absolute Music to see what needed to be done. The repair guy looked at it and did extensive testing on it, only to find nothing wrong with it. Apparently, despite playing clarinet for several years, I had inadvertently assembled it incorrectly and that caused the problem. Despite the time and effort it took to thoroughly check out my instrument, they did not want to charge me for it. The owner and repairman both wore face coverings and kept appropriate distance. I went in last night a little late to get a violin rented for my daughter. I mainly worked with Dave but also two other people who are extremely helpful although I don't remember their names. The store was busy but they treated me like I was their only customer, I thought they would rush to get us out the door as we took our time browsing books and supplies but they didn't at all. The store closed but they were just as friendly as ever with no mention of it. They really go out of their way to help you with everything you need. Dave even helped me find a coupon! I think a store employee has offered me a coupon one other time in my life. They truly treated us like friends not customers and had a variety of things we needed to buy as well. I always appreciate their opinions and expertise when helping me. Karl has been providing music lessons with us for the last seven years and is PHENOMENAL. Our oldest started the saxophone seven years ago, our middle started lessons three years ago and we just started our youngest on the clarinet. He has taught the lessons for all three. I could not imagine lessons elsewhere. His talent, patience and love of music is the best. Jon Bentley recently did a tune up and repair service to make sure the oldest kiddos sax is ready to head back out to another college marching band season. He did a great job. My oboe was in desperate need of repair but before I decided to trash it and buy a new one, I took it here and they fixed it up brand new! They sealed the crack, replaced pads and gave it the works for an excellent price. They have an excellent selection of reeds for my oboe also and they actually rent instruments and give lessons. I am so ashamed of this company and how they treated our local children and parents. Kids that left their instruments at school and were not allowed to go back and retrieve them for the rest of the school year were being charged late fees and some parents that called were told not to worry about the monthly charges, but were turned into collections. Don't bother wasting your time or money here. I came in on a Monday for a simple repair (it would've taken 30 minutes tops) and I was told it would be done at the end of the week because they were busy at the moment. Well, Thursday comes around and I missed two rehearsals without my horn. As a college student studying music, even a few days without your instrument is torture. So I called on Friday, saying to just forget it. It was then I was told that the repair person left the day before and was gone until Tuesday. What the Hell!?!?! I never got a call or anything. So I get a call a few minutes later saying that it was going to be fixed on. I'm not just trying to be a jerk and demand free things, but after all of this, I still had to pay. Talk about a terrible clientele base. Again, don't waste your time or money. Find somewhere else. read more

We love Absolute Music! My daughter wanted to play an instrument so we went in expecting to be sold on an expensive piece of brass. After asking her what she liked and what her learning styles were, we settled on a clarinet. They have great plans to own the instrument so we settled on that with the inexpensive insurance...get the insurance!!! She accidentally broke a piece and we took it in expecting to pay a lot to fix it. It only was about a $20 fix! They are always very helpful and not in a rush to answer questions and to spend time to make sure that you are investing in something that we will all enjoy. read more

I've been using Absolute on and off through the years with mixed results. The staff is kind, and try to be helpful, but I essentially find this shop undependable when it comes to getting things ordered and delivered in a timely matter. Be it a repair on an instrument or an order for musical supplies, it always takes abnormally long times for my requests to come in. I can understand that some items take time to order and receive, but when months upon months pass and you still don't have the item, it strikes me as odd. I can deal with this here and there, but when months pass and a reed/book/instrument still hasn't been dealt with, it makes calling in particularly irritating. Being told "It's on back order" only works so many times before I simply give up and order it through someone else. I want to support local businesses like this, but my patience can only last for so long before it just isn't worth it anymore. Unless you plan on waiting a particularly long time for something to come in, you are better off shopping elsewhere. read more

I was told then that work had started and that labor would be $92. At end of Thurs., I got the call to pick up. They fixed the key and replaced the pad: materials $7.50, labor $92. I was rather annoyed that it cost so much. Daughter said a few dents were now gone, though. In the past at other places, the repair for a specific problem was $35 same day.
