First, we came in 2 days ago, to look at a keyboard we're interested in purchasing. NOONE came to help get it started..NOONE came to see if we needed assistance ~ after 30 minutes we walked out. Today, we tried again ~ Why have a keyboard on display, when NOONE knows how to get it turned on OR how it works!? Talk about LAME!! TRY hiring people who KNOW how to run certain instruments!! My husband, Val Longmore has a karaoke machine he adores. Recently myself and my husband worked with the sales associate, Larry to help set up all the wires for Val's karaoke machine. The reason we needed his help, we have Starlink as our internet provider. The machine had always be hard wired through Cox cable. Larry was able to identify all the cords and plug them into the correct place, when we got home we were quickly able to set up Val's karaoke machine. I want to thank Larry for his patience and generosity in helping us complete the questions and answers so we were able to get the karaoke machine operational. I'm being generous with the 2 star rating, because I used to love this store, but it's gone so downhill. I only ever go to Guitar Center to buy drumsticks -- which should take 2 minutes to check out. But lately it's been more like 20 minutes (I'm not exaggerating), because every time I've gotten in line for the registers, it looks like their entire staff is helping with guitar issues at the counter, when there's literally a separate staring for guitar repairs. Or maybe they're just selling guitars to customers and that's just a longer checkout process? But regardless, it should not that that long to buy drumsticks. I was in this week and one of the registers called for 3's a crowd, and some guy came out from the back slowly, with no sense of urgency whatsoever to help out. I like the guys here, they're all super kind at the end of the day -- but why are all of your registers constantly this backed up these days? I used to be a huge fan of Guitar Center due to their large selection of guitars to choose from, especially their acoustics. What a change they have gone through since a few years ago. Gone are their days of being a well staffed guitar store with plenty of employees to help you and answer any questions you may have. Gone are the days when I could spend hours perusing their selection of awesome acoustic guitars. Hello to a store that deals primarily in their own brand of guitars. Granted Michell guitars which they manufacture for their store are decent starter guitars, and they have some lower end Fenders, but a little variety would be nice. Instead it's about a 70/30 split of their on brand versus higher end stuff. The higher end stuff is locked up or requires a ladder to get to however, and finding an employee to get them for you to strum is difficult at best. Your choices of decent mid-ranged guitars is limited as well. So I ended up going to Milano Music in Mesa for a better variety to chose from. read more

Guess where I'm never coming back to?! The Guitar Center on Val Vista! Here is a tip for the management and sales team. 3pm on a Wednesday it's just not crowded so rather than just huddle around each other engaged in conversation look up and if you see a customer who is looking for something, and then looking for that same thing on his phone, as he'd rather give the money to someplace that cares you have a problems. Maybe you should consider pausing the conversation when you have a customer in the store as you never know how much it they are ready to spend. It's unfortunate as I was ready to spend a decent amount today as I was in the mood to buy gear. But honestly, I'm not anymore and if I do I'm going to get it from Amazon. If you treat most customers this way you are losing on sales and given most things in there are not cheap you are letting money just walk out the door we soon as it walked in. Tony is AMAZING! We've been to this store several times and every time I make sure to wait for Tony. Let's see...we bought an acoustic guitar for my son a few weeks ago. Tony recommended a Yamaha even though it was not expensive at all. He said Yamaha is absolutely the way to go. We trusted him, bought the guitar for $230 and could not be happier. It has a full, wonderful sound even though it was so inexpensive. Tony polished the guitar, put on a new set of strings, and showed us the proper way to keep it clean. It took a while but he did not rush us at all. He took his time and was super friendly. Yesterday, we brought in a Fender guitar and amp I bought at a garage sale for assessment. I waited for Tony, showed him the guitar and amp, and he did a thorough inspection of both. He could have sold me on a new electric guitar but instead, he adjusted the neck and replaced a broken string and told me the guitar was awesome; no need to buy a new one. Sadly the amp, on the other hand was no good but Tony offered to fix it for me on the side. I told him no, I'll buy a new one. He showed me a Fender Mustang and told me for the price it does everything the real expensive amps do with sound, effects etc. For $160 we walked out of the store with a perfect guitar/amp set up for my son who is now dabbling in electric though his three years of training thus far has been acoustic. The point of this review is to give mad praise to Tony because of how knowledgeable, patient, and kind he is. The whole process took almost an hour-and-a-half but again, he did not rush us through or sell us on anything more expensive than was necessary. For free, he cleaned, adjusted, and put on a new string on the Fender I brought in, instead of selling me on a new guitar. Not to mention he's a hell of a guitar player. Final note: Tony is a big John Mayer fan, so basically he had me at hello lol. read more

It was time to upgrade my acoustic Guitar so I visited Guitar Center on Val Vista. The store is musical instrument heaven. Electric guitars we're everywhere. People were playing them in the aisles, students were getting lessons, others were looking at drum kits. Where are the acoustic and classical guitars ? They are in a soundproof room waiting to be played. I had the entire room to myself and played 10 guitars in 30 minutes time. Then I played a Jose Ramirez 4E. It was like nothing I had ever played. I play finger picking style and the sound those strings made could fill an auditorium. The length between frets were slightly shorter than I play and my left hand fingers liked that. If you are ready for an upgrade, visit the Guitar center and find the guitar of your dreams like I did. I never want to put it down. read more

I've been to many, many guitar centers from Washington state to Arizona and I just can't get over how great this one is. The people are great and I spent almost no time waiting for assistance. They are very attentive and super helpful. I think some of the other stores that I have visited could learn a lot from this store. Special shout out to the repair techs. I brought my daughter's guitar in for some adjustments and both techs were super knowledgeable and friendly. I don't know the name of the tech I dropped it off with but the tech who was there when I picked it up was I believe was named Jared? Jarrod?. He was so helpful. Kind, courteous and so knowledgeable. They deserve a negative 100-star rating. I phoned the Mesa store to confirm the availability of the Gretsch Guitars Electromatic Lap Steel Guitar I desired. The employee was courteous; she took about 20 minutes to return to the line, confirming it was in stock and would be set aside. When I inquired about purchasing it over the phone for next-day pickup, she agreed. As she began processing my credit card details, she suddenly stated, "I can't take an order over the phone"--a stark contrast to her initial assurance. She then decided to email me a quote, which inadvertently locked everything and created a duplicate of my intended purchase, leaving her unsure how to reverse it (wasting over an hour of my time). I called the toll-free number, and despite the representative's confusion over the situation, he was able to fix it. He assured me that ordering by phone for store pickup was possible, contradicting the store's claim. He processed the order with the understanding that I would pay for the guitar and pick it up on September 1, 2024, while the amplifier would be shipped. To ensure everything was set, I contacted the Mesa store manager, who confirmed the order and its readiness for September 1. On September 1, I arrived at the store before opening. Once they opened, I went inside and presented my order, only to be told, "It's not here." Despite a second check, the response was the same, along with an apology. Frustrated by the 45-minute drive one way and ongoing issues, I demanded the order be canceled but was informed that only a specific individual, who was not present, had the authority to do so. I called the toll free number when I got home and was told by the person on the phone, "I could not cancel it." I stated, "Give me your supervisor." I spoke to "Jake," who stated he would call the warehouse and have them cancel the order or, if necessary, call UPS to stop the shipping process. Jake stated he would cancel the order and I would see a refund on my credit card. It should not be this complicated to order something from any store, and I've never had this kind of problem ever! Perhaps it is just this store, but I won't set foot in there again; they don't seem to know what the heck is going on. Went into Guitar Center and Marko was great helping me find what I think we needed for our sound system. I settled on ( 2 ) Bose L1 Pro 8 speakers and upon looking we found 1 new in store and the other was a return and was being used for people to plug into with guitars. Was told it was for sale by manager but no box. When finalizing what I needed was told that it would be sold as new as we have no room to discount on Bose. After seeing another Bose unit ( different model ) used for sale and discounted, I was extremely disappointed knew this was a buyer beware situation. The three stars is due to services, not for products. If you want to buy an instrument or accessories, they have a great selection, and will price match Sweetwater and other stores (not Amazon). I took my Rickenbacker 4003 bass for a setup a coupke weeks ago (March 2023). It was 4 months old. When I got it back, the truss rod was not adjusted right, the strings were not seated in the nut, and the neck pickup was adjusted too high. When I brought it to their attention, they didn't see anything wrong with it. So I took it to another large retail music store in Glendale, AZ. The luthier fixed it all right there while we talked. So, buy your stuff here if you are close. Just don't have them work on it. read more

Went to the Mesa store ready to drop $2100 plus set up plus pro coverage for a Gibson LP Classic. Have a Epiphone LP standard I wanted to trade in. After being offered $200 for it, (offered me the good condition price since there is a scratch on the side of the head) after them showing me they would sell it for $475, I was willing to take the hit and do the deal. The manager, Tony, tells me they "We have too many used guitars in inventory and this will take a long time to sell, I won't take it. Put it on Offer Up for $450, you'll get it. Should we write up the sale?". Needless to say I said no, we are done. Stop advertising you take trades when you don't! Total BS, seems to be a common theme here. I can order right from Gibson for the same price as Guitar Center so that's what I will do. Won't pay for set-up or a warranty so will save several hundred.... read more

terrible customer service, always need to wait at least 10 minutes to get helped. Today we were waiting in line to check out a couple simple products for a guitar. We waited in line for like 15 minutes, and when it got to me the clerk walked away. My son and I waited approximately 15 more mins for someone to walk up and help us. In the mean time 2 males got in line behind us waiting. A few minutes later a employee walks by the males behind us and asks if they are ready to check out. He directs them to the counter next to us and proceeds to check them out. I didn't say anything because I wanted to see how far the fuckery would go. The guy spends probably 10 minutes checking out and the 2 males leave. I stare through the employee even with his back towards me. I'm pretty pissed at this point A. that the 2 males didn't have enough courtesy to tell us to go in front of them B. The employee also didn't ask us if we needed help first. Finally the Assistant Manager walks up and helps us after waiti g in line for approximately 40 minutes. I voiced to him out loud how much bullshit this situation is but he said in a very blase way...oh sorry! He offered us no discount and just briskly walked away afterwards. Too bad I can't give a ZERO STARS! Went to the store after seeing they had a used keyboard I was interested in. Trying to track someone down to help me was the first clue this was not going to end well. The keyoboard had no power cord so that was the first task.The salesman plugged it in and nothing. He went to get another power cord. A light came on this time but otherwise dead. After assuring me they had checked out the keyboard and wouldn't display it if it didn't work I told him that I was not going to "trust him" that it worked. Next...I have been looking for a small self-contained PA speaker. And was pleasantly surprised to find three of them! After trying to get someone to help me for 10 minutes I told the kid that I needed to check one out before buying. He fumbled around trying to get power to it and then went to get a microphone. After everything was checked out and deemed good to go I say "Great! Wrap it up I am ready to buy it." The kid then informs me I can't have it because it is used and on a police hold for two more weeks!! WTF!!! I went in to buy a $15 item and the guy checking me out refused to take my card payment unless he had my phone number and first and last name. I had to argue with the guy about refusing my payment without my personal info. After he acquiesced he looked me in the eye and said I wouldn't be able to return the items if I needed it to. I told him the receipt should suffice, and next time he shouldn't lie to the customer. That in no way did he need my information to check me out given the fact he just checked me out without it. He told me he put a fake name into the computer. Which would've been very hard to do given he didn't type anything on the keyboard after our initial heart to heart.
