I loved this place! I met up with a group of friends here…read morewith our hopes for some good pizza. This was my first visit to John & Maria's in East Haven. Wow! The place was vibrant, the staff friendly, service on point and the pizza was absolutely delectable! We ordered multiple apps and a variety of pizzas and all was fantastic! A New Haven style pizza but with an East Haven flair. Thin crust, char, great tasting sauce and cheese. The clams casino pizza was hands down perfect. Comparable to the big New Haven pizza biggies in all ways. Foxon Park sodas available. I was so impressed and highly recommend. Restrooms and the entire establishment very clean and well organized. Large parking lot. I will retrurn.

It is slighly thicker than other New Haven pizzas. Oil is in sufficient quantity and tastes great. The blend of crust, tomato sauce, cheese and oil was close to perfect. They make it taste superb. I thought that one glass of soda (one liter) for $2.75 was a bit expensive. I like refills included. Generally, prices were reasonablle. Though the pizza was a five star pizza, the chicken parm was average and 3.5 star, at best. The wall was furnished with nice paintings. Wait service was good. Bathroom was clean. Plenty of parking. A good dining experience.

It was founded by pizzaiolo Luigi Bernardo Jr. The Bernardo Family plays a large role in Greater New Haven's rich pizza history. Family patriarch Luigi "Gigi" Bernardo immigrated to New Haven from Naples, Italy in the 1960s. In 1974, Gigi opened his own business "Gigi's Bakery" on Chapel Street where he made baked goods and pizza. The family moved the business to Grand Avenue in 1982 and they continued to operate it until Gigi's retirement in 2001. He passed away in 2009. Gigi passed down his culinary talents to his seven children (including sons Luigi Jr, Frank, and Arsenio who all became pizzaioli). Frank runs the New Haven Pizza Truck while Arsenio runs the New Haven Pizza Place. Luigi Jr continued his late father's legacy when he started his own pizza truck business dubbed "Little Italy". The truck travels around Southern Connecticut to craft delicious wood-fired pizza pies at wineries, breweries and festivals. My family and I recently tried some of Little Italy's delicious pies when we visited Rosabianca Vineyards in Northford. The winery frequently hosts pizza trucks and other food trucks on the weekends. My wife and I had previously eaten Bernardo Family-created pizzas from the New Haven Pizza Truck and New Haven Pizza Place. We were excited to try Little Italy's offerings. After looking over their menu, we decided to order and share the "Margherita" (white fresh tomato, basil and garlic) and the "Mashed Potato Bacon" (with caramelized onion). The Margherita was more of an American-style Margherita versus a Traditional Neapolitan-style Margherita, but still very good. The real star for us was the Mashed Potato Pie! The mashed potatoes had a perfect texture and the bacon and onions were so flavorful. It was perfect! Both pies had excellent crust and they paired well with our wine. We really enjoyed our experience with Little Italy and we hope to see them again!

We drove over an hour from southern RI to try out this place…read more Steve and John welcomed us in and gave us a tour. There's about 8 booths- It's a bit on the small side but the food was fantastic. Hubby and I were born and raised in NYC. It's been so long we've had really good pizza. John and Steve brought out pie after pie. We had the plain, plain with grated cheese, tomato with fresh mozzarella, clam with bacon, mangia special, Stevie Gs apple pizza, mashed potato pizza. We brought in our homemade suppi and they put it on some of our pies. We also tried the eggplant Parmesan and garlic knots. The plain pies, mashed potato, and the mangia special were my favorites but really everything there was top notch. There is nothing that I wouldn't order again. The crust is nice and crunchy. Good char on it. Sauce was delicious - not sour like straight from a can. Toppings were better than I expected for a small pizza spot. Sausage was tasty. Mushrooms were fresh not tinned, fresh tomatoes and basil. Tons of clams on the pizza. Bacon was thick sliced and left almost whole. Eggplant was sliced thin. Generous with the toppings. Even better than their pizza- is their service. It was my first time meeting them and I felt like an old friend. They were so friendly, chatted with us, told us stories -- we really had a good time. The older gentleman who brought out the food and took away the empty trays was very thorough- checked in on us regularly. Mangia Apizza is easy to miss - connected to Vick's Cafe (really it's a bar). Stop in and grab a pizza. You won't be sorry. And if you want someone to talk your ears off - stop in and eat at a booth. I wish they were closer!!

The woman on the phone was very nice and clear, I asked her what the stuffed bread contained and she let me know it was made to order and could be customized and she listed some options. The chicken Parmesan option sounded great to me so I went for that. She let me know it would be ready in 20-25 minutes. I came 25 min later and my food was ready to go. There were a few families eating inside the restaurant and it seems very homey and cute, I'd definitely come back to eat there. I was out within 2-3 minutes after paying. Food was very hot. The pizza was good, a ton of seafood on it and tasted great. But I really liked the chicken parm stuffed bread! It was much bigger than I expected and tasted great. Will be back!

We've been there at least half dozen times since last summer while we were moving back to CT from PA. The folks there are attentive, friendly and so accommodating! I have some dietary restrictions that are somewhat difficult to navigate all menus but the waitstaff always checks the ingredients for me and never ever makes me feel as though I'm being 'high maintenance' in ordering. I love their mini bread starters- especially with soup! They are way above average in gourmet/special order pizzas and their dinners that I have tried are very tasty(and filling)!! The restaurant is comfortable, clean and cozy and a great place to bring friends and family when in town!!
