I had one of the worst experiences at the guildhouse both on a Friday night and Saturday night. I'm usually used to long lines at the bar but this weekend was different. It's always the bartender with the big square glasses who tends to be rude to everyone and I guess this weekend it was my turn. It seemed after he had a shot with the taller gentleman they were a bit more cheerful. It felt safe to approach the bar. Then again I was treated terribly. I decided to call it a night. I go back on Saturday night and as I was sitting with my group of friends in the parlor I saw a bunch of kids drinking out of a green 32oz bottle of beer. They also seemed underage, I looked to see if security was going to approach them. No one said anything to them, I removed myself from the situation and walked over to the main hall. A few moments later a customer lost his mind and began throwing chairs at other customers! No security guard was present! The police took forever to show up. It was a circus! As I walk out I see someone urinating on the walls of the parlor. I don't believe I would be coming back to this establishment. The GUILDHOUSE is not a safe place! Do not bring your family or children to this establishment. They have no security, and the bartenders prefer drinking than bartending. read more

What a place! I was looking for a bar, and found this amazing games house! It's enormous and unlike anywhere I have ever been before. There are 100+ board games available to play, and a whole room set up for ~50 person multiplayer PC games. There are stages for one on one games battles! Super fun place! Very surprised to see such a large, lively, and aesthetic space with so many things to do! There are free boardgames to play and consoles + pc's to rent out, along with bar with fun, game-themed cocktails and snacks as well! There's a nice promotion where if you buy a drink (cocktails are ~$12), you can get one hour free of pc time! The PC area was pretty busy, so it took a while for our group of 3 to find seats for us to sit together. I stupidly forgot my ID, so I couldn't get a cocktail. However, the bartender was super nice and made me a custom mocktail since I mentioned I didn't like the listed mocktails. I'm honestly very surprised and, of course, grateful! I've never ever been to a bar like this and I'm so glad I checked it out! First off, the drinks were all great and fairly priced. I didn't feel like I was getting jipped, but I really enjoyed that they had a section for mocktails, since I was the DD. I had a virgin pina colada and it was great! I also got soft pretzels with cheese which was also the perfect snack while playing games! They have PCs, consoles and board games. I wish I could've played on their PCs, but since I went in a group we played on the Switch and played BTS Uno (which I was shocked to find it even existed lol). Now, the final verdict! I've been here for both gaming on the computers and playing board games. The staff are really nice and they even helped my group clear a table so that we can play. Awesome spot if you're looking for a low key place to hang out with friends in the SoFA district, but still have handcrafted cocktails and/or craft beer. They were busy but it wasn't crowded at 9pm on a Saturday. They had a ton of different board games you can use, as well as console games and desktop computer games. The board games were free, but it's pay by the hour for the console and computer games. They had 10+ beers on draft, and a very creative cocktail menu. They also have good selection of food available, and it seemed like the kitchen was open late. There was no cover to enter, and they also have giant TVs throughout the space. It seems like they have events in this space, and it may be closed for private events. Both indoor and outdoor seating was available; however, it didn't seem like there was any lighting for the outdoor seating. It was spacious inside though, and tables were mostly socially distanced. I would come back if in the area and looking for a chill spot to play board games with friends; however, I hope they also add wine as a beverage option at some point! Sanitizer was available towards the front entrance. Parking in this area can be really difficult on the weekends, but some street parking spots were available, as is a public lot a couple of blocks away. read more

I came here for the first time last night with some friends, and it was a really fun time! When we got here, the tables were pretty much all full, but we were able to find one after getting our drinks. I think this would be a great place to chill with friends, and I might become a regular here! I got the Lych King, which was great for my boyfriend who doesn't really like tasting the alcohol in his drinks. It tasted pretty much like lychee soda, though that does make me question how much alcohol is actually in it. We also got the pretzels. The pretzels were decent, but the cheese sauce was amazing. My friends and I ended up playing board games, though we were pretty interested in playing Melee as well. A cool place to hang out at. There were board games, PC's, and so on. At the time we went, there was an event going on so we were not able to explore the whole area but only the small room to the left if you were facing the front of the building so it was a bit crowded. My friends and I wanted to play the board games but the tables were occupied. Instead, we played on the PC for a bit and another friend even joined a group of people playing cards. The service here is ABSOLUTELY terrible! I came closer to closing and there was a huge line for line since only one bartender was working. After waiting 15 minutes to order, another bartender started to assist. When I got to him, it wasn't "sorry for the wait", the first thing he did was rush me and told me to hurry up an order. This is one of our all time favorite spots! My husband and I, friends, and occasionally our offspring, meet here at least once a month to bask it's awesomeness. The staff are so friendly, accepting, and accommodating. The vibes are stellar and overall it's a wonderfully safe space to nerd out, meet new people, or host a gathering with all ages welcome. They've got so many games to choose from, clasics like Jenga, Settlers of Catan to more complex games like Spirit Island. There's something for everyone here. If board games are not your thing, they've got consoles and PCs you can rent for a very reasonable price. Guildhouse frequently hosts free community events that really help bring the local nerd cultures together. Smash Bros competitions, Warhammer sets/games, game designers play testing, local DJs, honestly on any given day, something fun is going down. Could not recommend this place highly enough. I went on a weekday and it was pretty empty, but since the space is so big, it doesn't feel awkward or uncomfortable. Everybody's really just doing their own thing and living their life. I also appreciate how big the space is so we don't have to be squeezed between people! It's very COVID safe and they do check IDs and vaccination cards at the door. Their menu is so awesome. Their drinks are super affordable honestly, especially with them being such a prime location in DTSJ! Beers were maybe $6-8, while cocktails were $10. I got the sour beer that was on tap at the moment and their cocktail that has banana whiskey-- I can't remember the names of whether at the moment. Definitely give the banana whiskey cocktail a try! It was so good and it didn't taste overly boozy. It was perfect. Their staff is super nice as well and is willing to answer any and all questions you might have. My mission is to continue visiting and try every cocktail! I think you get a free hour on the computers when you order a drink, so maybe I'll play something on the computer next time. Me and my friends love going to Guildhouse over the weekend. It's quite different from a regular bar, absolutely love the board game selections here! The venue is fairly big and open. It's such a fun place to hang out as there're usually some sort of events going on; I've seen people doing social multiple times as well as tournaments. The food selection is pretty limited but most of the drinks are solid, especially the fruity ones. My go-to is Why's the rum gone, it's more on the sweeter side but it's so good. I came to Guildhouse to meetup with some coworkers for a custom Valorant lobby and honestly, it was 100x better than I expected. I have been to plenty of gaming bars before, but Guildhouse exceeds expectations on most aspects Drinks: Cocktails and Mocktails were both delicious and reasonably priced! They had a good variety of drinks and a special featuring soul coffee. Drinks are a little bit small compared to a dedicated bar, but use high quality ingredients and are very tasty. Menu: The one downside is that there are not very many menu options. There are calzones and pretzels. We got the pretzels and cheese and liked them enough to order a second round! So good! They do also appear to allow outside food and have some long tables away from the setups to eat. Setups: You can rent a PC or Console. I have only tried the console. You register a free account and can add hours to your account for play. I think hours roll over onto your next visit, but they also offer free hour with purchase of food or drink. We ended up not needing to buy hours just off of eating enough which was nice. I'm not sure of the exact time, but they do also have a happy hour sometime around 4-5pm. Overall a great experience, and a huge venue for you to meetup with a big group! Honestly the whole place could comfortably fit 100. Stopped by here for the BTS cupsleeve event! This place was so cute & spacious. First of all, the event entry staff were organized where you needed proof of vaccination to enter. Lots of Jimin freebies - loved it. They sold alcoholic boba but only had Taro & Strawberry Yogurt. Downside: they ran out of strawberry once we got to the front of the line. But looking at how they made it, just typical boba nothing to fancy. Loved the Jimin cupsleeves though. Ordered the: * Rising Phoenix Cocktail - Most appealing one out of the menu! Very yummy watermelon goodness and I liked how they gave you the rest of the redbull can haha. Costed ~11$ Loved the BTS artist alley it was so fun to browse, music was great, the photobooth was awesome. I came here for a dance battle event hosted by Red Bull. The space is great, the vibes were great, and the food and drinks are good. Most of the staff here were awesome but there were definitely a couple staff members in a bad mood having minor arguments with customers around us. Once the dance event was over, my group of friends stayed a bit longer to find out they were supporters of E-Sports as soon tournament streams started playing on the TVs. The drink selection at the bar tastes great. I've tried every drink and each one had a great taste that gets me coming back for more. The venue is amazing, especially for downtown San Jose.
